    I really enjoyed watching this! I feel like I can relate in so many ways, having studied abroad in Australia and wanting to have a wildlife/nature blog! I just stumbled across your video when looking for "conservation blog" and will definitely be checking out your website and Instagram! Thank you for all the information and being so inspiring!

    I really enjoyed the "science communication" part. I feel the same, not really an academic person. I enjoy field work, travels and writing :-) Your work is great! Happy that you have a TH-cam channel now.

      Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) it was such a strange realisation! Like I love the part where I'm left alone to get on with fieldwork but everything else is yeesh. Sounds like we have a lot in common! Thank you so much for your kind words :) I hope you enjoy the next videos!

    Great video Steph, especially for your first one! 😊 Since the coronavirus lockdown I think quite a few people have started to appreciate their local area and it's wildlife. Have you considered doing any videos out in the "field" on your favourite local wildlife?
    It was great to hear about your path so far in your career though! Very inspiring. I'm in a weird position right now of entering my final year of my PhD at Kent university in cell biology. Not really sure where I want to end up afterwards, if I want to go into a postdoc or seek other options. I have a lot self doubt about even acquiring postdoc positions, especially with how competitive academia is! I love science too but I do wonder if I can give myself over to an academic career and all the demands it has on your life. Still on the look out for what suits me! Glad to see you're doing well in science communications though 😁

      Thanks Dan! I'm glad you'd be keen for a video like that, as that's the plan for the next one! I'll be covering one of the parks in London :) there's plenty more places I have lined up to visit, transport/pandemic situations dependent of course...
      Well done I didn't realise you were doing a PhD! Doctor Dan in a year then! Yeah alooot more goes on with academia than I was prepared for, I can understand the hesitation. At least you have a year! Just a case of keeping an eye out I suppose. Thank you! It's a lot of fun I genuinely love it :)

    Great Q&A, looking forward to seeing more videos in the future! I'm also big into SciComm stuff but things are very busy at the moment, I'm trying to juggle a PhD among other things so a lot of the things I have in the pipeline have been pushed to the wayside for the time being. Hopefully I plan to get fully back into TH-cam in the future, at the moment I'm sort of coasting with things until things calm down a bit. Really great to hear your story, very inspirational!

      Thanks so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch it. Ah makes send, PhDs just seem like an insane amount of work. Hope you'll be able to get back to video making soon! And thank you :)

    Hello! I loved to see this video!!! Thank for sharing your experiences. I am a Biologist from Colombia and I recently got my Masters degree on Biodiversity Conservation but..I am unemployed. Yes, I am in one of the most beautiful contries in the world, where animal and plant richness and diversity is so high and so many ecosystems to study and explore...but as many other third world contries, conservation and science studies in general are not a priority. I am into Urban Ecology and Environemtal Education but there are no jobs opportunities in these fields in my city (Bogotá, Colombia's capital city) and I decided to stay here in my country and my city because...well...my whole life with my housband is here. I'm gonna look for remote jobs opportunities because here...well..it has been quite frustrating. I am definitly going to continue watching your videos and hopefully find more inspirational content...yes, you actually inspired me - Science communication...that's actually very interesting and usefull in this field - wish me luck and again...thank you :)

    Loved this video 😍. Would you recommend taking a science writing course aswell for ppl interested?

    • @StephintoNature
      @StephintoNature  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely couldn't hurt your chances! Just make sure it meets your specific needs, science writing can also refer to technical writing so if you are looking for more of a science journalism course then you'll need to check that. Additionally an accredited straight journalism or science journalism course could also be a good shout!

    Hello! You somehow found my very small Instagram account and followed me so I checked you out. TH-cam is great! Welcome to the wildlife community :) I'd recommend checking out Kristina Lynn, Greg's Wildlife, (myself) and others, we are a community of wildlife biologists, ecologists-in-the-making, etc. it would be great if you wanted to get involved with some collaborations and stuff!

And thanks for the welcome, I'll definitely go check your channel out, I discovered Kristina only a few days ago too, she's great! I would LOVE to get involved in collaborations and stuff!
