At the end of the day I'd personally take the VW (considering daily driver duties) but that Subaru is absolutely wicked! Much respect for the manual trans and spot on shifts.
This just proves that standard manuals are geared to a disadvantage. Awesome race and that Subaru is absolutely awesome!
That's flat foot shifting for you. This actually works best with a heavy flywheel (but your clutch will curse at you). You get to store some of that lost energy due to clutching in the flywheel, and dump it back into the drivetrain when you release the clutch. Usually flat foot shifting can improve your 0-60 by not much, but on roll races and 1/4 mile drags it can improve your time by over 5%!

Used to have the golf sv 1.2 with like kiddie pictures contravision on the back windows.. launch that thing off the line no one expects... took every gap in traffic
Lovely vid, it would be nice to have the 100-200 time too.. :)
I got a GC8 WRX basically the sedan version of the GF8, what makes them so fast is the power to weight ratio, mine was making just 280hp 16psi on a TD05 Turbo, and I chopped the hell out of a 1jz IS200 making 300hp to the rear wheels
Jesse spotted at 9:52, wonder who he's going to be against lol
Such flashbacks to my cousin owning 3 different generations of subarus are amazing cars. I use to really want one as a kid! Amazing car Gary!
BEST (CLOSEST) STREET DRAG RACING IVE SEEN ON YT ! MY HEART WAS RACING LITERALLY 👏👏
That golf sounds like the world's longest fart on wheels. Awesome cars though 🤠
This channel , like always , makes me proud to drive a subie! Nice run boys
That DSG in the Golf sounds like its starting to struggle almost slipping.
It’s normal with launch control. It’s always slipping. They want it tho. On stock internals it can handle up to 800nm of torque.
It does sound odd 🤔
Yep, he needs a better tune. Probably should go TVS stage three or four
Yeah the shift into 2nd especially was very delayed.
I was thinking the same thing, mine shifts a lot quicker than that and runs similar low 11 second 1/4's despite being 100bhp down on it.
I allready loved the Carwow dragracing but now i can watch even more Dragracing thanks to OG thanks for these epic battles brother.
Another epic video 💯🔥🔥🔥
Man like Gary got the best driving poker face! 🥸 another awesome video Jamie, a really interesting video and comparison. It seems like the technology in the Golf outweighs the weight difference between the 2 which is astonishing considering the Golf is 350kg heavier! 🤯
Rooting for that scooby!
Wow the golf can be driven while staring at the dashboard the whole time while the Subbi has to be driven with focus and precision.
The guy in the golf is shifting mega early!!! Watch the last drag race again… strange!
Especially for a stage 3 car ... peak torque is quite high and so is peak power! So strange
STIll relevant enough I would say. Great footage of two great petrol heads and their cars. We want more :)
Classic subaru any day love them plus Gary can drive that car
Both drivers did very well Garys driving with them shifts 👌 got to love that boxer growl both humble just the way racing should be done
All about the Scooby. All this modern stuff doesn’t need driving, you sit there and it does it all for you 👎🏻
Scooby isn't exactly hard to drive either though? Both were changing gear manually with a simple tap.
@@pb3382 i could sit in that Golf and run those times. All modern cars are the same. Literally no effort involved. That Subaru still has a sequential gearbox and involves driving, unlike the Golf with its do it for you DSG. I’ll take old school over the modern cars anyday
Ok grandad
@@Alandixon88 but changing gear in the sequential box is a peace of piss also, even at that, with an old school manual, its easy to get the launches. And gear changes spot on also.
@@Alandixon88 its not sequential. Its a straight cutbox. His still shifting manually. No taps. But mad respect to both cars.
That was a good one! Gary knows his Scooby very very well! So close but my fave was the Scooby! 100% 🔥
That scooby is a weapon love it !
Gary your impreza is one of my favourite cars, I love that thing!
Subaru power
My man Gary really enjoyed that 🔥🔥 there both very close matched loved this 🔥🔥
Subaru all the way. 💯♥️💯♥️
At the end of the day I'd personally take the VW (considering daily driver duties) but that Subaru is absolutely wicked! Much respect for the manual trans and spot on shifts.
Yuri's cluthes are slipping big time
This just proves that standard manuals are geared to a disadvantage. Standard manual gearbox’s are geared longer than their auto counterparts for emissions regulations, giving the illusion that autos “are faster”….but a built manual gearbox ignoring these emissions rules is equally as fast. Awesome race and that Subaru is absolutely awesome!
Scuby all day long for me Gary is a legend
That's flat foot shifting for you. This actually works best with a heavy flywheel (but your clutch will curse at you). You get to store some of that lost energy due to clutching in the flywheel, and dump it back into the drivetrain when you release the clutch. Usually flat foot shifting can improve your 0-60 by not much, but on roll races and 1/4 mile drags it can improve your time by over 5%!
