    Thank you for this tutorial! I have been tumbling local beach stones and agates to make pendants. As well as bone jewelry 😁. But I wasn’t happy with wire wrapping results. This is going to make all the difference!

    This has really inspired me to give it another go! Do you mind me asking what was in the spray you used at the end?

    • @SparkleGarbage
      @SparkleGarbage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's awesome! I'd love to see them when you are done. The spray I used is called kwik-clean and is make to clean off flux. I use it a lot for stained glass but you can use just use soap and water if you don't want to spend the money on it.

    This is so awesome. What temperature do you set your iron to? I have areas where the solder stays really rough, if I turn the iron up it burns and i get little black pieces all over my project.

    • @SparkleGarbage
      @SparkleGarbage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep mine up between 700 and 800. Don't worry about the little burn spots, they will wash off when you clean and polish the piece.

    Is there a way to do this with a gold finish??

    • @SparkleGarbage
      @SparkleGarbage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sort of! There is stuff called Patina that you can buy that can change the silver to a copper color but it has to be super clean. I guess you could also gold plate it but that's a whole other project that is pretty expensive to do.
      here is a link to the copper patina.
      www.amazon.com/Super-Brite-Copper-Patina-Solder/dp/B000N64PDE/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=copper+patina&qid=1618599469&sr=8-2
      I'm going to make a video about it soon!

    So a i should be able to do this straight onto copper wire? I'm guessing this because it adheres to the copper tape.

    If i want soldier glass pendant, I like gold color look what do i use

  • @jessicatremblay7988

    Can you do it without the copper type?

    • @SparkleGarbage
      @SparkleGarbage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      nope! the copper tape is what bonds the crystal and the solder, without it, the solder will not stick to the crystal/bone/glass

    What do you use to clean your solder after you get it done?

    • @SparkleGarbage
      @SparkleGarbage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use some cleaner called Kwik clean but its kind of expensive. Dish soap and warm water also work pretty well.

    could i use a solder paste in replace of the flux and solder wire?

    • @jasmineledesma6855
      @jasmineledesma6855 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      and does the solder have to be sterling silver, i understand it’s better quality but could u recommend a cheaper alternative? thankyou! :) love your videos

    • @SparkleGarbage
      @SparkleGarbage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure since I have not used solder paste myself but it might be worth experimenting with since you can practice on cheaper materials.

    • @SparkleGarbage
      @SparkleGarbage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just used lead free solder (I believe its mostly tin) that you can find for cheap on amazon. you don't need to buy silver solder for this project.

  • @jenecklund-bistline1780

    Would love your advice on how to keep my copper tape from not lifting!! I have soldered many pieces (practicing like crazy), and often the tape seems like it could just be pulled off when I am done. I'm using quality copper tape and experiment soldering on bones and gems. I go over tape with flat wood blade before soldering. (forgot the word for that). Each time this seems to happen. When I am done, I can literally pull the soldering off. HELP please. :))

      Did you ever figure this problem out? I’m having the same issue!

    • @jenecklund-bistline1780
      @jenecklund-bistline1780 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ryannkramer8673 no not really...but I read black back copper tape is supposed to be the strongest/stickiest so I am trying that out. It does seem to adhere better. Also I am making sure to clean piece first with acetone first to remove all residue. This helps too. And I use an agate stone to burnish which gives the tape a smooth finidh.

    • @jenecklund-bistline1780
      @jenecklund-bistline1780 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ryannkramer8673 sorry I should have answered that differently. On most pieces I am having more success doing what I suggested. Only on occasion do I still have trouble getting tape to adhere smoothly.
