  • Although what I am actually doing in this video is electroplating it is commonly referred to as electroforming. To find more in depth information about how to set up your bath I can't recommend the Electroforming Facebook group enough. They have an invaluable amount of information about this art form.

    💗HELPFUL TIPS
    --The rectifier should be set on CC
    -- You don't want the solution to be cold because it will take a longer time to plate. I'd say 75
    degrees and above
    -- You want to check on your pieces every so often and jiggle them so that they don't form to
    the hanging wire and you end up with an indention on your piece.
    -- Don't give up! I have ruined so many pieces trying to learn the process and the satisfaction
    you will receive when one plates beautifully will be worth all the trouble.
    -- Always seal your stones if they are below 7 on the Mohs' Scale: bit.ly/2Q6Smps

      I'm very surprised to hear it's your first edit, some people have been editing for years and aren't this good. Congrats! If you do put more time into it, you'll only get even better with experience.
      You already have quality content and presentation down, if you wanna do YT full time just focus next on learning the latest mechanics and quirks of the current YT algorithm, and also how to market yourself via thumbnails/titles, which also related to the algorithm and getting click throughs.

    Hello again! I did another ring following your suggestions. I painted up around the edges to make sure that the copper could form a kind of a shell and it worked wonderfully! It's about 7 hours in right now. I started at .2 amps and then moved it up to .25 amps after 2 hours. The copper has formed where it should, but the surface is very clumpy, rough, and slightly sharp in some places. It's not isolated to one part, it is all over. Any thoughts? I have done research on multiple forums and cannot find anything

    • @MandyReyesDesigns
      @MandyReyesDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, I wonder if it could be from the paint. If there were tiny clumps of graphite they might draw extra current creating the bump. You could make another batch and stir it with a dremel or hand mix A LOT and test that. Sometimes if the solution has a lot of copper sludge at the bottom it could be that. I'm not positive, but these are my two thoughts. You tried searching the Facebook forum?

    • @Ishfwilf

      I'm excited for you! I can't really say because the solution is basically an acid and I don't know if it has fumes that come off of it. Also, keep in mind that whatever is around it might get damaged. I keep mine in the garage on top of a large tool box and the top, which is wooden, now has a lot of orange stains that don't come out. I bought the graphite and paint you suggested, what is the ratio of paint to graphite for the conductive paint?

    • @MandyReyesDesigns
      @MandyReyesDesigns  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have a ratio, what I do is definitely not scientific. I use a small Dixie cup, then pour in some paint. I mix in as much Graphite paint as I can. You'll know it's too much if it's clumpy. Some say to add water, but it will get moldy over time if you don't use it quickly. The more Graphite the better, the trick is just to make sure it still has a paint like consistency. I mix it a lot to break up the small chunks. When I paint an item, that is when I will add a drop or two of water to thin it out a bit if necessary. I have seen a TH-cam video when I first began and followed her instructions. Good luck!
