For me the best class to start as a new player is astrologer. In this game's beginning every enemy can two to three shot you and you will die. This causes most of the new players to rage quit. So starting a class where you can stay at a distance and take down your enemies is always preferred.

I have a soft spot for witches due to my love for horror. So no matter what game I play, Destiny (warlock), RuneScape (mage), Gauntlet, yes gauntlet (wizard)... and now in Elden Ring I chose Astrologer. Has everything I need. Great build opportunities for someone who is very strategical. Long live mage builds.

    • @Anotherguy1st
      @Anotherguy1st 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

Yeah honestly don't understand how Astrologer isn't listed as number 1. Yes you don't get a 100% shield from the get but you can find one pretty easy and you can pick up a katana fairly easy at the start as well, just need a few levels in dex and strength to use it. Honestly most bosses are a joke at range with magic and you start with two of the arguably best spells in the game along with a decent staff to cast them with. Not to mention if you're not fighting at melee range you don't need a 100% shield, hell even if you are you can just dodge well and it's a non issue. I personally don't understand the big push with melee builds, even if I play one I'll at least use some spells and duel wielding seems kind of pointless to me, think I would rather 2 hand and switch back to sword and board, what advantages other than looking cool is two weapons? Combos? Honestly not sure.

Starting class is actually pretty subjective this time. In prior games there was definitely a meta class. In DS3 it was the knight. This time, depending on what you wanna run, the best starting class changes. If want sorcery it's the prisoner, if you want miracles it's the confessor, and the best choice for strength or quality is the knight, while the best choice for dex is the samurai. Samurai also starts with uchigana and the longbow, which probably makes it the best for beginners.

The wretch, while the least equipped, is the only level 1 class. The rest vary somewhere between level 8 to 12 (all over level 5). They also start with 10 in all stats, something no other class has. While not the easiest or necessarily the best, I think the wretch is the easiest to customize. I started with an int/dex build and have since gone to int/str/dex with enough faith and arcane to cast most but the highest level of incantations. By using magic on AOW on weapons like The Dismounter or already magical enchanted weapons like the Darkmoon Greatsword. I like how with high intellect (63) adds not only to these already powerful weapons, but ranged magic damage as well. I have a console recorded video of me "kame-a-meaing" about 3/4 of Moghs health.

I started as a wretch and i'm in my first 20 hours of gameplay and honestly i'd say for the first playthrough wretch is the best if you want to have a full experience of the game starting from 0, it makes you appreciate any loot you get and i've tried out so many different weapons and armors i've gotten from loot. I just made my build depending on the weapons and gear i got. The other classes are only better if you already have a build in mind and know what playstyle you want to use from the beginning of the game but i'd say starting as a wretch atleast in your first playthrough would be the best and most fun option. I'm no souls games fan nor do i own or play any of those games but i liked elden ring mainly because of the open world rpg style and for the replayability. So far i'm having a lot of fun playing as a wretch, sure you only start with a club and it's a bit harder early on but there are so many ways you can ease your way around that honestly + the club isn't all that bad to bonk with xd

Wretch actually isn't all that bad. The club has above average strength scaling, starting at a flat 10 in everything isn't a bad place to be and having to scavenge for your gear and actually having to find your spell teachers adds satisfaction to exploring.

As a person new to from software games this game in particular I chose the confessor based of the looks. This video would have been helpful for me as im more of a close combat sword class however I really don't think this video matters when it comes to best to worst because it really depends on your style of class you prefer. Now that I've seen that the classes come with different weapons to begin with I would have chosen something different or maybe I just didn't read because I was overwhelmed by the many choices of classes to choose from.

Put on whatever clothing and gear you find out in the world to make it a character who just scavenge's whatever they find. Wearing and using whatever they come across amd working with that. Also, it's just funny to run around in the beginning, almost butt ass naked and all, lol.

Here is an actual educated summary of this games “origins” unlike this video with so many blatant lies:
Vagabond: best for a durable tanky build
Warrior: best for a quick fighter build
Hero: best for a strong heavy weapon warrior build
Bandit: best for a quick ranged/ rogue build
Astrologer: best for a intelligence based mage build
Prophet: best for a faith based mage/ healer build
Samurai: best for a all around dexterous and durable fighter
Prisoner: best for a intelligence mage and quick fighter hybrid
Confessor: best for a faith mage and fighter hybrid
Wretch: best for a build that doesn’t fit for a direction that none the other starting classes go.
