The wretch is not a meme it's a class that's been around since demon souls although it's gone by different names the point of that class is to start at level 1 and be able to build your character exactly how you want them, I'd say Alden rings probably the best game for this class because you have so much open-endedness you could straight up avoid a lot of the real challenges early on to find gear
@@vampirekassell9541 I've played the wretch... its actually easier than you would think. Since you start at level 1 you level extremely fast in the beginning. Though I switched id go back and play my wretch cuz i went ahead and merked the tree sentinel off the rip.
Thank you so much for this video I literally just bought the game yesterday but also haven't had much time to play at all and you're video has helped me decide on what I want to play as since I want to have spells but also use a weapon
I started as a bandit because I love the high arcane and light armor load for performing quick attacks. Because of the high arcane, I pilfered so many pieces of armor and weapons to my liking early in the game.
I absolutely love the astrologer because of its sheer versatility. It’s so funny to absolutely decimate large enemies with glintstone pebble. With glintstone arc, you can catch multiple enemies with one sweeping attack. I’ve been wanting to play a samurai for a while now, so I’ll probably do that in a speedrun or rerun. It’ll probably take a bit of getting used to though, considering you can’t use magic
Started with Wretch; No regrets. It actually wasn't that bad. If it was Dark Souls I'd be eating my own ass every encounter but with Elden Ring I can go off and do a little bit of grinding. It was pretty fun ngl. Though lvl 41 and my build is kinda wonky.
The deprived/wretch is not bad in any of the 3 dark souls games because the club is a great pve weapon. The bandit is the worst in basically every game unless you can parry.
This is the first Souls type game I've ever bought...i tried Nioh but my god...wasn't my cup of tea..however this caught my eye and I figured...may as well give it a shot.. I like being super tanky and though Vegabond would be perfect but..I didn't feel tanky..then I tried Astrologian...the fact that mana doesn't regen threw me off and here I am dying while poking things with a stick..I know i suck but man this game is fun regardless..guides like this help me a lot..so thanks :)
I’m running the Prisoner with an Uchigatana, it’s a fun build, and very versatile when it comes to approaching a challenge. Do you lean more towards magic, or melee with your build?
Started with Samari.. really liked the look. Plus Katana, sheild and bow to start were hard to pass up. Im new to Souls so I needed all the help I could get.
Not that it would have changed the list much but I do think the long term build flexibility as a base should have been an aspect covered. Maybe talk about some directions each in inclined to go towards. That was it would have covered the first 40ish hours of the game and given some good info for people making their choices more so than just the first 10ish hour experience. Great video though.
I went astrologer and leveled dex with my int. Stumbled on moonveil after godrick and super happy with build. Just entered Liurnia and have 25 vigor, 12 Dex, 12 int, 20 mind, 28 int and 24 dex. Left arcane and faith alone
I usually go all in strength but with Elden ring I went with a dex bleed build not even knowing how strong it might be and damn my character feels op sometimes lol
@@smoothielatte I used samurai since his dex was good and starts off with a great starter katana. Go with what feels right. You can respec later after a certain point
@@smoothielatte I went samurai but wish I would’ve gone with Vagabond. I’m into quality builds and like the ability to wear amazing armour not fat roll and still wield a strong weapon.
The weapon prisoner starts with I absolutely hate…I really want a sword and intelligence/Sorceries build but I was scared off from using prisoner because that weird pokey weapon it starts with just is hard to control for me anyway. Now that I have a bit of experience in the game I may restart with a prisoner or astrologer because I really want to be able to use the int based sorcery in this game.
The Warrior’s starting armor is extremely powerful and obviously the best looking. It’s the lightest armor that gives you the best physical damage negation and the most status effect protection. All those stats and numbers are shown in the Wiki
Man, idk… I started my first play through as a warrior and it’s going pretty well… just pumped my first levels in to vigor and dexterity… then a few points in to strength, grab radagons sore seal, kill Lydia’s dad for his halberd, beast crest shield and I’m rolling 🤷♂️
Went bandit. Thinking of picking another while I'm only a handful of hours in and no longer a COMPLETE noob. But also backstabbing enemies one at a time thru a whole camp is a uniquely fun challenge
I started as Prisoner but built him to be a bit more sword and shield. I like the flexibility to use my magic if needed. Probably not how that class is supposed to be as I think I've only leveled up INT a couple times from the start
I've tried most of these, and yet I must say, I really like prisoner! Great versatility, loved being able to use both spells and still be able to do melee combat
I chose wretch to begin with, at the start i kinda regretted it but the more powerful i became the more proud i got and realized that i enjoyed the freedom it gave me in the early game to level up how i wanted. I did regret never putting points into vitality tho.
I chose the prophet cause I wanted to do pyromancy, it honestly wasn't bad at all cause you can get some amazing incantations early, I just beat the game a few hours ago, time for a big hammer strength build
I'm honestly surprised Hero is so low, it's got the highest Strength and the second-highest Vigor, Endurance, and Arcane (for some reason), with Vigor and Endurance only being one level behind the highest.
You forgot to mention that the Wretch is the only class which can be fully optimized for levels across multiple different builds. If you pick astrologer for your first playthrough, and want to do a STR build for NG+, you're gonna have to deal with having points permanently assigned to INT.
Is that a problem? I mean is having points in Int a bad thing? I've not played Elden Ring yet, but I've done the Dark Souls trilogy and you can always level higher and get more points in those... so does it matter if some of them are placed weirdly?
@@SotiCoto INT is a useless stat if you aren't using spells. You can technically level up more to compensate, but those levels would be better spent going into the correct stats rather than being wasted.
@@Corzappy: Yes, I accept that it is useless, but I'm asking if it is actually problematic, as opposed to just.... nothing. Is having wasted points in Int more of a problem than starting the entire game over from scratch? I haven't even started Elden Ring, but given most of my Dark Souls characters ended up as overlevelled Master-of-All characters (absolutely god-tier for the Artorias Greatsword, with its 4-stat scaling), I can't imagine it would matter much if, for instance, I start with a Confessor and level it into a Sorcerer. I think at some level I just want to reject the idea of particular builds being tied to particular starting classes. Strength Bandit, Agility Vagabond, Faith Prisoner. They all seem like delightfully appealing ideas just because nobody anywhere in the entire Elden Ring community seems to even bother mentioning the idea that it might be possible.
My fav is actually warrior because you can deal ton of damage by using 2 blades and in the end I got an op blood build by using the 2 curved bandit swords or something
My favorite classes are 1. Wretch- lots of options for flexibility, easy to level 2. Prisoner- great for sorcery, better than Astrologer 3. Samurai- easiest starting class for dex users
When will people learn that the wretched is the best class, since you can always reset your points ( rebirth ). So technically you can try any build and switch at any time.
And you can do so with any other class in the game, the wretch is hands down the worst class because it requires far more work to be put in to even start moving in the direction of a playstyle, if someone wants to play mage, there is 0 reason to pick wretch over atrologer, and if the mage wants to respec, they can do so just like the wretch, the wretch is a meme class and nothing but
@@StudioBleenk still untrue, a prophet begins with 16 faith, in order to get to 20 faith, the prophet only needs 4 points, and the wretch will need to reallocate 10, and this is consistently the case with all stats. If a character has a low base stat, it is because that class is engineered to largely ignore it. Who tf cares if prisoner has 6 faith if it’s an INT/DEX class? The prisoner starts with a higher INT than wretch, so if you’re looking to reinvent yourself as soon as you get to raya lucaria, you will have to squander and sweat over less points. Sure the wretch CAN be more effective than all the other classes, but that’s only for a very short period, around level ~120 when each class has a surplus of points but will be (very mildly) held back by their base stats, anything past that and there are enough points to reinvent yourself any which way, and before that you won’t have enough points to optimize your build after a respec, in short, wretch sucks, and there’s no case for it. Brutal early game for an extra 2-3 points in a few stats that will eventually not matter at all
I just bought this, and it's my first Souls game. I picked Confessor. I'm watching the video, and if Confessor isnt in the top 3, I'm gonna yell at you.
The Depraved Wretch is the only class for me. As my forefathers before me, we shall bare the struggle free of worldly wants and a purpose we choose, weakness be damed, clothes be damed. My fellow wretches raise your clubs to the sky for tonight we challenge the stars themselves.
I instinctively pickd samurai because of Dark souls 3.. i saw that katana and was like, "Yup first playthrough on easymode, thats this one..."... Lol just bump up faith and int, and then rockshot or the fireshot or whatever.. Boom, Instant unbreakable Spellswordsman.. Then go up on that ledge and grab the other uchigatana.. And then set both for both hand slots, with the staff or bow in extra slots.... theres a combo set designed for using two katanas at the same time.. with low tier ashes i can wreck most bosses in the first go round... And with both katanas equipped, you can still use Unsheathe, or the moonveil's version of a Ranged Unsheathe/swipe slice..
I decided between Seikro, GOT and Elden Ring because I love the japanese katana and samurai. Elden ring is the combo of Sekiro and GOT because of the style and bosses. I love it!
Cool video. This is my first FromSoft/Souls-type game I've ever really gotten myself into and having a lot of fun with it, even though I still kind of suck. Currently playing vagabond. I was thinking for the character I would choose for my next play-through would be the astrologer, but I've seen some people say besides their initial glintstone spells, most other sorceries are ass. Not sure if there's truth to that or not, this also might have been before balance patches have fixed that.
Sorcery is really strong but it takes a lot of stat investment. For some reason some spells and staves require up to 70 int. While faith on the other hand never asks for more than 50
Wretch is actually one of the best to experience the game, you go in naked and have to build your character with whatever you find, you are not especialized in anything which makes you able to adapt to different things and try things other classes simply can’t
What some don't realize is at the end of the game the wrench is the most powerful of them all you start at level 1 and all your attributes are set to 10 where as if u look at the other classes you start with some levels but with higher stats and better gear but doing the math if u reduce any of those classes to lvl 1 most of there stats are below 10
I went into the game expecting to be able to start off with a Vagabond and make a Strength Intelligence build so I can use swords while also casting weapons to be able to mix up combat strategies. BUT EVERYWHERE I LOOK I SEE THINGS saying Vagabond and Strength characters should only go for Incantations and that just confuses me so bad. Am I missing something why is a Strength Intelligence build not a very great idea? And what about Strenght makes it so good for incantations/faith over Sorceries/Intelligence?
My response for this is ignore what others say and do what you want to do i cant say myself if its good or not since im still on my 1st playthrough but the way i play these games is going with what you want to use instead of what others think is more powerful and if you end up finding out you dont like it you can always respec after the 2nd main boss in liurnia
@@vampirekassell9541 facts it is a single player game so you don't have to compare your build to other peoples builds, you can beat the game with anything

IMO wretch is the best class for only 1st run players!!! For beginners its hard, but the experience of wretch can only truly experienced for your first run, as every piece of equipment feels like treasure, even if its trash, if you had starter equipment a lot of the items you pick up will never be seen or used. Picking up your first sword is just absolute bliss and just finding slightly better equipment feels amazing!! It makes defeating bosses so much more rewarding as you look forward for the loot and ofc the challenge as well.
I would recommend to use bandit you can get a really good blood weapon early not needing to go stormveil yet the weapon is called reduvia you can get it really early.
Throughout this whole video I got even more and more surprised samurai was first in your opinion. I started out as samurai but it’s tough to grasp, thinking about trying astrologer I like long range.
I love the wretch, something about starting from nothing made me keep the save file as the one I am currently going through the game with. I restarted a few times trying different classes to get a feel for the game before going to deep into it. Starting with nothing and having to loot and buy your gear is great. @@Chloeprettyoccasionally At the time of writing that, I didn't even know that Prophet's have magic. I wouldn't call INT wimpy, but as a new user of faith spells, I can see where you're coming from.
Thats true but even the smaller enemies would be a challenge at level 1 but i am thinking of doing this when i do a 2nd playthrough
@@vampirekassell9541 I've played the wretch... its actually easier than you would think. Since you start at level 1 you level extremely fast in the beginning. And if you know where there is some starting gear than you can quickly level up to where you would start if you had selected any other class.
@@alexoelkers2292 i wont deny that but its probably a lot harder for someone who hasnt played a souls game before since they would still need to time the dodge rolls etc even against some smaller enemies but it does seem like a fun class to play with which is why i will be using it when i start a new game
I haven't play wretch as well, with the bird foot that increases drop rate. (Not too, rare) The gear and yellow eye spawn rate allows for fast pickup.
This is my first game in the souls series and my friends told me to pick the wretch as a meme. Definetly had some fun in the beginning hours of the game but i ended up switching to a samurai because i wanted an easier time learning and playing.
Glad to help! Have fun out there
I started as a bandit because I love the high arcane and light armor load for performing quick attacks.
Doesn't have versatility:
Lowest hp, low stamina, lowest strength, lowest faith
For sorcery or moonveil... that is it...period. (astrologer)
That's it tomorrow I'm marching into target and getting this game and I'm getting samurai class and Noone or nothing will stop me
Good luck and have fun!
I’m running the Prisoner with an Uchigatana, it’s a fun build, and very versatile when it comes to approaching a challenge. Do you lean more towards magic, or melee with your build?
Check our my Mage Knight build video. It'll answer all you questions 👍
Started with Samari.. really liked the look. Plus Katana, sheild and bow to start were hard to pass up. Im new to Souls so I needed all the help I could get.
That's why I watched this vid. Not a pro gamer by any means and need all the help I can get when it comes to Fromsoft games.
Wretch is mostly good because you're a all rounder, 10 everywhere, and fairly customizable since you start at level 1
I'm usually an all strength player as well. Elden Ring does such a good job of having many different viable builds
So what class do you use? This is actually my first souls game so I'm just looking around at opinions and tryong to get all the input I can you know?
@@smoothielatte I used samurai since his dex was good and starts off with a great starter katana. Go with what feels right. You can respec later after a certain point
@@sikevillain aw thank you so much
@@smoothielatte I went samurai but wish I would’ve gone with Vagabond.
If you get the 100% shield near beginning, the rapier weapon type is awesome for easy damage on non-large foes.
The Warrior’s starting armor is extremely powerful and obviously the best looking. It’s the lightest armor that gives you the best physical damage negation and the most status effect protection. All those stats and numbers are shown in the Wiki
This should have more views! Great job my man!
Also, my first souls game where I've gotten farther than the tutorial lol
Same here just started,,Did you ever pick different? Been thinking about using magic
@@jollyollieman6145 i did. I went samurai for a bit, now I'm running an anti priest dragon incantation build with a fkton of bleed and arcane
I started as Prisoner but built him to be a bit more sword and shield. I like the flexibility to use my magic if needed. Probably not how that class is supposed to be as I think I've only leveled up INT a couple times from the start
This was so helpful yet quick thank you!
There is no other greater class than the one that looks cool to you 👌👏
I've tried most of these, and yet I must say, I really like prisoner!
What incantation did u find early game lol I’m playing prophet and only have flame sling 😅😅
@@chupa4554 yeah, that's the only downside so far for me. Even vendors don't sell much even after getting to liurnia of the lakes.
Wretch is thw true Elden Ring experience as you start off with basically nothing and get such joy when you get an upgrade
Good quality video. Straight to the point and articulate. Subscribed.
Thanks mate!
i went for the Wretch because you can level up more detailedly with it
My fav is actually warrior because you can deal ton of damage by using 2 blades and in the end I got an op blood build by using the 2 curved bandit swords or something
My favorite classes are
1. Wretch- lots of options for flexibility, easy to level
2. Prisoner- great for sorcery, better than Astrologer
3. Samurai- easiest starting class for dex users
Bandit is really good too because of bleed
When will people learn that the wretched is the best class, since you can always reset your points ( rebirth ). So technically you can try any build and switch at any time.
And you can do so with any other class in the game, the wretch is hands down the worst class because it requires far more work to be put in to even start moving in the direction of a playstyle, if someone wants to play mage, there is 0 reason to pick wretch over atrologer, and if the mage wants to respec, they can do so just like the wretch, the wretch is a meme class and nothing but
@@goutbreak thank you!
@@goutbreak Actually when u respec it gives u the starting stats of the class. So Wretch is the best class for build variety
Brutal early game for an extra 2-3 points in a few stats that will eventually not matter at all
I like the Wretch because it makes me work for the build, feels more rewarding once you've gotten your setup.
I just bought this, and it's my first Souls game. I picked Confessor. I'm watching the video, and if Confessor isnt in the top 3, I'm gonna yell at you.
#5 huh? How dare you.
Thank you for the list just brought the game yesterday and wondered what class to pick.
The Depraved Wretch is the only class for me. As my forefathers before me, we shall bare the struggle free of worldly wants and a purpose we choose, weakness be damed, clothes be damed. My fellow wretches raise your clubs to the sky for tonight we challenge the stars themselves.
this video is amazing bro.. thank u! my fav is the astrologer tho😌
I love it!
brilliant video, well done!
Thanks mate! What's your favourite class?
While faith on the other hand never asks for more than 50
Nice! I picked the samurai because it looked cool lol glad to see it was number one on the list
Great choice!
The Astrologer class is a boss wrecking machine. This is especially the case with spells like comet azur where RB becomes the win button.
Exactly , I have killed the first 2 boss without put any effort .
It’s ridiculously strong.
Sorry for my grammar mistakes, I’m French.
Wretch is actually one of the best to experience the game, you go in naked and have to build your character with whatever you find, you are not especialized in anything which makes you able to adapt to different things and try things other classes simply can’t
It also forces you to search for better gear as well as make each item found that much more valuable
I personally think the warrior should be higher on this list, but great vid none the less :D
@@bsmoooth3477 yeah but thats how i am with most games like this lol i dont even look at build guides etc i just go with what i like
I may not agree with all of these, but my ranking would be
1. Confessor
2. Samurai
3. Vagabond
4. Hero
5. Astrologer
6. Prisoner
7. Bandit
8. Warrior
9. Prophet
10. Wretch
I started off as a vagabond, then samurai but in the end my character with the most hours is a confessor and I haven’t looked back since then, a lot of the mid-late game Incantations are pretty OP tbh and I think for an experienced dark souls player it’d be top 3 most fun for anyone whose Atleast played souls 3!
It makes defeating bosses so much more rewarding as you look forward for the loot and ofc the challenge as well.
good assessment thanks
Always why I loved the Deprived class in Dark Souls. Gave a sense of looting to the game that starting with a class you like takes away from.
When I saw there was a samurai class I knew that’ll be my class so when I saw it ranked #1 it’s definitely gonna be my starting class
I would recommend to use bandit you can get a really good blood weapon early not needing to go stormveil yet the weapon is called reduvia you can get it really early.
Number 9 warrior, closes the video *
Been looking for Warrior comments
Throughout this whole video I got even more and more surprised samurai was first in your opinion. I started out as samurai but it’s tough to grasp, thinking about trying astrologer I like long range.
Samurai is basically considered the best by most people I think.
A guy even tested which could speedrun the game quickest and Samurai won that too
I love the wretch, something about starting from nothing made me keep the save file as the one I am currently going through the game with. I restarted a few times trying different classes to get a feel for the game before going to deep into it. Starting with nothing and having to loot and buy your gear is great. Now my man look like a kick ass knight and can take very very many hits...which happens a lot because I suck.
Thanks for the tips, I was pondering switching from the samurai
The real #1 is wretch nothing better than being a feral naked person with a stick going to slay gods
I went with confessor bc I'm trying to be a faith/int build and use the sword of night and flame early game
TBH astrologer is better with that early on but eventually they even out later game
I like the buckler I start with as a bandit i really like to parry attacks I tried all the classes with parry I struggled a bit with them but that normal but I tried the bandit and the start up is fast while also have large window so even if u parried 2 second to early it still connects
The buckler has its own unique parry with better frames. It’s literally made to be the parry shield
What I would've loved to see is a shaolin monk type class, who solely relies on their martial arts aswell as perhaps a big stick-boi. Maybe some minor spells too
Wretch isn't a meme. It's the truest power fantasy of starting with absolutely nothing and defeating a god. It also gives each discovery early on more weight since they could all be potentially useful if you haven't decided what to level up in yet.
I like the idea of all of the classes, reminds me of DnD, but I will always go for magic so Astrologer for life!
Prophet has an objectively cooler type of magic, rather than the wimpy intelligence spells
@@Chloeprettyoccasionally At the time of writing that, I didn't even know that Prophet's have magic. I wouldn't call INT wimpy, but as a new user of faith spells, I can see where you're coming from. Faith definitely has cooler looking spells and some pretty powerful ones, but INT also is pretty cool. I like the concepts of both, so at this point, I would say they're both about equal. I'm probably a little biased, but whatever. They're both really cool, and I still say magic is really cool.
@@thevillageidiot1 fair enough
I chose the Hero starting class because I wanted to go for a berserker type build...
My logic for doing so was "the best defense is a good offense"
I quickly realized that was a mistake lol.
I chose samurai my first time without doing any research and it definitely is an excellent starting class
I am a beginner and have never played a game from this company before elden is the first for me so i am rlly confused abt which class to take
Any recommendations??
And yea also one more question can samurai do magic?
And can vagabond do magic?
And i am confused between samurai vagabond confessor and astrologer
So any recommendations and answers for my questions would be great.
I looked up Wade to LeBron and came to the conclusion… that I’m old if I can still remember it vividly. Anywho, wizards sounds fun. Maybe I’ll play that next.
That Reference was JUST. FOR. YOU!
The wretch isn't a meme, you start at level 1 and build your own class. The only permanent disadvantage is all your stats start at 10 so you can't specialize as much as other classes at the same level caps.
So basically no positives thanks!
@@Silvermeow The positive is you build your own class from scratch at level 1 and put your points wherever you want, and you have an extra challenging game at early levels if that's what you want. Dark Souls did the same thing.
Thank you so march man!!
was thinking of starting with astrologer and this cemented my decision as i am a beginner to fromsoft games , thanks :))
Thanks for your video 👍 was helpful.
I assumed #10 was there for speed runners.
Nice video! Music is a bit too loud tho
for me, i played the wretched hero.. picked hero, discarded everything except the weapon upon starting. Give the wretch early game experience, while keeping the stats I knew I'd prefer i the long run.
Bro didn't even mention the Halberd on the vagabond 💀 op
I want a tank class that has some healing capabilities preferably ones that heal others like Protection in WoW.
i picked samurai just coz i loved ghost of tsushima HAHAHA
I love the Astrology since it's so easy to cheese bosses like Margit with stuff like Rock Sling
I went with wretch so I could build my guy from scratch how I wanted it took a little time but I'm satisfied with what I came out with
I started with the bandit because the dude looked cool. I feel badass just slashing and draining blood of enemies
Hey Norzza, great contend! I like your lamp in the background, can you tell me the name please?
The confessor starts with assassins approach because in the lore the confessors are like the hit men of the golden order, not so much paladins.
I started with Warrior very interesting stuff
First souls game for me, chose Vagabond because it seemed the most basic (besides wretch) but also the most helpful for newcomers (armor). On my 4th Ng+ and glad I chose it
As a noob, Prisoner has been a great ride just on a guess. I'm not wearing it now, but it's crazy that I started with one of the best helmets in the game.
(Level 224, died tonight almost killing Elden Beast on first try -- sad to learn he was final boss so I'm going to mess around a bit more)
Watches a video for beginners to decide on a class to pick to start the game, tells everyone what the final boss is, refuses to elaborate, leaves.
