Thanks for the video because I couldn’t find this thermostat for nothing and since I’m not working in a shop no more I don’t have access to alldata or identifix so now I know why it calls for 4 hours labor.
Hmm... As someone already pointed out, there are missing explanations. It stands to reason that if you've had training, and experience in doing the job, it'll be like second nature. These cars have certain quirks that must be addressed carefully when servicing them. Elsewhere on YT, there is a video posted by a moron on "How to Remove a Volvo Engine Hood". The "instructions" simply point to the bolts on the hinges of the hood, then the next take shows the hood off the car. When I pointed that out to the technical wizard, his smart ass response was: "That is how you're supposed to do it." "Do you want a refund?" In your presentation, you should just state: "Don't try this at home", given that you state it's not a DIY video.
I'm not sure why you removed the fan blade from the fan hub as it is easier to unscrew the reversed nut that is still connected keeping it together! I found the hardest part was trying to find the 4 bolts holding on the idler pulley.A 5mm and 6mm HEX hidden inside the pulley itself and 2 on the outside of the casing. Next time if I still have the car I'll use a mirror to locate them. LOL
Can you please tell me for this V6 2.8L at what miles or kilometers should the belt be changed? I'm getting conflicting information from 120,000 miles or 140,00 miles?
@@jacobnorthstarstreet119 Well I ordered the Timing Belt kit on this 170K Passat and to my surprise its never been changed! Lots of oxidization on the tensioner and rusty metal surface on the bearing. Water pump looked very good with the original paper gasket. The gasket that I got with my water pump was metal! with a metal impeller. Not sure why they recommend metal over the plastic? It was still in perfect shape. The top of the belt had hair line cracks everywhere but on the tooth side it looked like new. Anyway its done now. I think this belt changing idea is just a money grab for the dealers! But you never know!

Lots of missing steps. How are you compressing hydraulic tensioner? Since you are not using crank/cam tools, at least show timing marks. At home mechanics beware !!!
I'm gonna be honest: I don't want to do this. I wish I still worked in a shop! Really appreciate the video.

Do you have a more specific video to do with the timing belt replacement
The fan is reverse thread. Good information
Does the timing belt have to come off for just thermostat replacement?
Great job and did you use cam locking pins at tdc or is this not needed
yes a lock bar and pin was used, i will see if i can edit the video to include that since a few are wanting that info

About how long did this take you? Need to do mine myself and want to try and plan it out. Was think about two days…doable or longer…?
Vw passat you have pull the bumper front clip fan to change a water pump. LOL but that's why 4cycl hemi turbo goes so fast
Can you take compressor out with removing front end
Cómo saber si tiene termostato.mi carro. Ya que lo compre usado y veo que en bajadas cortas enfría muy rápido. Gracias!!!
Hey so once this problem is fixed will my car run almost like new
well it will not run much different but it will be more reliable since stuff wont be as worn and ready to break
Thanks, it help me

I’m sure 120,000 would be the maximum but I would stick with 75,000 or so to be in the safe side or every 10 years
I recall its like 4-5 years or 75.000 miles (120.000 km) But I will do it before as well for KM/miles. :-)

owner's manual says 105k miles but shops see many broken at 90, 95
Why do you still use a sillicone on the water pump?
JUST A HABBIT, need to prevent leaks
Cual es la medida del ajuste de los pernos

It wasnt a diy, im just showing how i didnit since some videos dont show all steps
true timing marks are the most important to not have that in the video is treason
Can you do mine? I just don’t have the motivation
Bless u
Can you tell me tq specs
When are you coming over to fix mine? Lol
these are cake, next one ill do a better diy. i figured just film it and show ppl how it was done ish

what is the.point of the video if it is not for DIY?
