- Several lawsuits against Apple claim the company was not being transparent after it admitted to slowing down older iPhones.
The lawsuits come on the heels of Apple justifying the move by saying it does so to keep older batteries from spiking in power an shutting down the devices. CNN's Samuel Burke reports.

My step mom has an iPhone 6 and she can't even answer the phone because the phone is so laggy. I have an old budget Samsung phone running ice cream sandwiche that works better than that! In fact my cheap chinese ipad air knock off tablet works better than her iPhone! Lol!
And that's why my 4 year old Samsung Galaxy Note 3 still works!

What the so called expert fails to address is the fact that if you avoid updating the ios for about a year, the update will install automatically without notifying you. So it’s a whole new level of planned obsolescence. Mine is a 7 and it’s the last iphone i’m ever going to own. Apple has no respect for its clients
This happened to me and i had to go through so much crap to get my 5 c working and not lose all my contacts, photos, etc.
I have a 6s and a 7 still and the update notifications never god damn stop.

All that for half the price of a Note 8 or an iPhone X. People need to understand that the best smartphones are no longer from Apple or Samsung, they're from Chinese companies such as OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Huawei.

Louis I had an Android for 5 years, and it still works. Currently on a Samsung Galaxy Note 4. 3 years, no problem.... $12 battery.
According to Apple, they slowed down their phones to save battery, but if you change the battery with a brand new one, phones are still slowed down anyway.

Nope I still have a galaxy s3 I had bought in 2013. Samsung stopped updating in 2015, and I've been using it without any issues. I'm going to buy a new android phone in 2018--but I can definitely say that I've gotten my money's worth.
but Samsung add into the phone a lot of stuff (apps, service) it is already much slower than it should be... :D There's some who knew a lot about Android could stop all of these "bloatware" (bad word they called them) and the phone goes insanely fast... Samsung is the old same thing, they just unknowingly made their phone slower over periods of updates, then it pushed it to limits and broke down as a result a lot earlier than a premium phone like iPhones.

What about iPads? 3 years ago I updated my iPad 2 to iOS 8. I noticed a huge difference in performance as soon as I powered it on. I called Apple to complain and even brought it in and they said there’s nothing wrong with it and to keep updating it. It’s now useless. The same but not as noticeable as my iPad 2 just happened again with my iPad Pro when I updated to iOS 11. It’s not as crisp or quick as it was on iOS 10.

I think they also interfere with Bluetooth range on the iPhones. I had a wireless bests power 3 and an iPhone 6. The connection interrupts once I place the iPhone 6 in my pants or coat pocket. Now I decided to purchase a iPhone 7 and the Bluetooth connection works fine in my pockets. Thus, they are distorting the Bluetooth connections with their software updates to force consumers to upgrade their phones.

Listen, my wife and I never were into buying the latest and greatest phones. We always took the free upgrades. Well that last free upgrade was to the iPhone 6S brand new in the box, not refurbished. Once activated Sprint, who service is also complete trash, updated the phone to the latest IOS. Within a week of use you can tell it had issues both the phone and the service. This is a brand new phone, battery, everything. There is no reason it should have performed like that. Now we are back with Android and are avoiding the Apple issues but still are dealing with Sprint's BS!

i have an iphone 5c (update stopped with ios 10.3.3). First i thought im gonna miss the cool feautures of iOS 11. But i feel lucky to have a stable OS and good battery life, after seeing many users desperate to go back to iOS 10.3.3 (which is impossible).
My iPod battery lost a chunk of battery life after one update. I asked them about it and they said their was “nothing wrong” with my battery life.
Now it’s slowing down because of age. I hope I get get a new battery it lasts over two hours last time I checked. I just wish Samsung had an iPod alternative. I have looked into getting a mini tablet but it’s still too big in size

Apple has done this for a long time. But it went too far in ios11 to even detect battery health. Because of this incident, apple has to make ios12 faster than ios11. It is not performance tuning as apple claimed but apple just removed the code that slows down device.

FINALLY A *REAL* STORY
It's always about $$ in the past few years there was a free battery replacement program for those who had their phones shutting down unexpectedly with battery left and now they want you to pay for it! My iphone 5s was fine on ios 10.3.3 and stable but as soon as it was updated to ios 11 it started overheating, running slow, apps crushing, battery had to be charged 2 times a day and the touch ID stopped working after ios 11.01. Now I'm on the latest ios 11.2.1 and I still have the same problems! Battery won't last longer than 12 hours whether I'm using the phone or it's sitting on standby, touch ID still hasn't been fixed and every time I turn on the phone I get a message saying unable to activate touch ID on this phone! I've contacted apple and they denied that their software is to blame they said it's coincidence that problems started right after the update, so I wanted to go back to ios 10.3.3 to prove that ir's all done by their new software but they won't let me do it! So they don't state what new update does only some trash talk about security and when the phone is crap due to update they tell you to upgrade!!!!! Fu*k apple!

Logic. Using a more recent version of the hardware is bound to slow older phones down. It’s like trying to use windows 7 on an old windows 98. Only since Apple updates their guizmos more frequently, and the updates aren’t as heavy as the windows example, it takes more time to push it to the limits.

A NEW BATTERY FIXES PERFORMANCE ISSUES GUYS. That's how this performance problem was discovered in the first place. Although this might only help you if you have an older phone the newer your phone the less likely it is to have any problems.
