    It's so funny how some peoples favorite plants are hated by others. I really think it all depends on what has done well in our care and it leaves an impression on us (good or bad), haha. Hoyas and Syngonium are tied for my all-time favorite plants! I loved hearing your experiences.

    I love my palm, but totally agree with you on the varigated string of hearts. I will never buy any of the strings of... again. As for snake plants, I have five varieties and love them all! Every single one has given me a new leaf or two this Spring. Give them light and you can see them grow. My Fernwood's new leaves have actually grown fairly fast.

    I was a surprised when you said arrowhead and thrips, but then I remembered that there actually lives a teeny tiny barely there spider in my arrowhead :) That might be why there’re no thrips

    Totally agree with a lot of the plants you mentioned! I also regret purchasing a snake plant, rubber tree, hoya, nanouk... ughhh. Luckily I've been able to trade them with folks locally, but even still I have a few more plants I'd like to part with. Loved this video! I hope this isn't weird, but I feel like I detect a slight accent when you speak and it's really nice to listen to!

      So sad that you didn't like the rubber tree! They're one of my favorites haha. And not weird at all, I literally shouldn't have an accent but my husband is British so now his accent has rubbed off a bit, especially with quarantine haha. Thanks!

    I cannot with Calathea's, Tenanthe's?, Alocasia's. I've never had them but I just don't see the appeal, they are just not pretty enough to deal with spidermites in my opinion. I actually do like ZZ's, some Hoya's, and Snake plants! I think these are nice to have aside from all your needy plants, not as only plants. That way you can ignore them/forget about them/pay more attention to others and you don't end up finding them dead in a corner, and then when you do see them again, there may be something new or something new grew just a bit more. But I can see how boring they would be if that's all you had to look at.

    • @thepetiteplant
      @thepetiteplant  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alocasias are my current nemesis hahaha i only like the look of some though. I think if I ever did try them again I’d get a frydek or a black velvet. But they do look kind of alien if that makes sense haha. And yes I appreciate the hardiness of zz’s, hoyas, and snake plants but I think I just like actively taking care of the plants rather than leaving them in a corner. Like not super high maintenance but maybe weekly maintenance, maybe that’s why I like calatheas🤷‍♀️

    • @melcel9003
      @melcel9003 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thepetiteplant lol, totally! the only Alocasia I would consider is the dragon scale...if I had room for it to be locked in a cloche, the whole "bind you from doing harm against others or harm against yourself" thing. I usually keep myself busy with Peperomia's and propagations of everything else while ignoring my snake/zz/hoya's, lol.

    Thrips are awful and I have several plants that are just prone to them, including my syngonium albo and my monstera deliciosa. My plans are to alternate spraying insecticidal soap and neem oil every two weeks. I will be reducing my collection to make this process sustainable. It’s the only pest I get in my apartment.

    It's so crazy because my snake plant & raven zz get so much growth. My snake plant has like 7 new babies right now. I think it's the humidity. Why buy the snake & ZZ plants in the first place, I could understand that if you don’t like them, because you are having problems with the pests or your environment is not good for them. In my opinion, you reasons are just illogical.

    • @thepetiteplant
      @thepetiteplant  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I didn’t know I didn’t like them until I had them for about a month. The way they look is nice, I just didn’t end up liking the way/rate they grew. I wasn’t intending for my reasoning to be completely logical because all of my reasons were based on personal experience, which varies for each person, so people are going to disagree:)
