I live in Miami, and my neighbors actually had a random pink and green Caladium leaf in the midst of an overgrown bush in their front yard. It was beautiful. But yes, they definitely seem like they belong outside.
They are beautiful she's an unsophisticated kid. Not very knowledgeable about what she's talking about. Not knowing why plants are the color they are or their function.

I have a begonia Rex and I love him!! I find the glittering effect very pretty and the cool leaf spikes. At the same time I can see why people wouldn’t like them

"why don't you just get hoya linearis?" -- because they are impossible to get around here and really expensive, lol. The retusa is cheap and constantly putting out tiny flowers--cute in a small hanging planter. But for sure, definitely a personal taste thing :)
I looove these kind of videos! 🐸🍵 So the plants that I dislike: - maybe unpopular but philodendron pink princess, I don't like the growth pattern, the leaves look hideous to me and I'm also not a fan of colorful plants lol - orchids, I feel like the typical orchid reminds me so much of grandmas and the more rare ones look just boring to me - begonias, I really like your angelwing begonia but all of those smaller ones no thank youuu - pretty much every plant that has yellow variegation, it just looks like dying leaves to me - I'm with you on the peperomia, my only exceptions would be peperomia prostrata and watermelon (even though mine has thrips at the moment 😩) - last and definitely least: monstera obliqua, like what why?? It just looks like an uglier version of the adansonii and is as far as I've seen really hard to care for, I really don't get the high price tag
I love my oxalis! It has never gone dormant in the five years I’ve had it. I think the leaves kind of look like butterflies, and the colour is stunning when it’s hit with some evening sunlight. And because they are little bulbs they are resilient! I don’t get why people will pay an arm and a leg for the philodendron pink princess. They never have that much pink, and I’m not a fan of their growth pattern. Crotons have always looked sickly to me too.
I used to feel the same way about Rex Begonias but when I saw one in person I was won over. I've had mine for about 6 months now and it grew extremely fast which also made me appreciate it some more.
They're super fun to take care of but NOT the prettiest growers, especially when they aren't given enough light or pruning and become sad and leggy instead of compact. And you gotta be careful sometimes their variegation (cough *red* cough) really clashes with the leaf color, and when they flower it can sometimes get worse
This is not a hate comment. I'd just like to say that I see lots and lots of youtubers making videos about plants they don't like or plants they regret buying or whatever, and I just don't like those. I feel like it's giving some negative vibes into the universe, and we don't need that :) . Otherwise, I love your personnality and other videos :) .

I think indirect light is the way to go too. People say they love a lot of light but whenever mine are in direct light they become so crispy and unhappy
I agree with all your dislikes! My least favourite also include anthuriums, african violets, most dieffenbachia, pink princess philo, any and all ivy (they all remind me of cheap fake plants from school and church that were all dusty and sat there for 30 years), fiddle leaf figs (loved her, killed her, don't love her now), coffee plants, im sure i could go on but i'll stop hahaha !
I have two Birkins. One is getting quite large. When I repotted it one of the 'babies' just fell off, so it's in another pot growing wonderfully. The new leaves come out pure white then turn green. It's so full, makes a great window 'curtain' in my front bedroom. Another blogger has a list of plants that he does not like, however he gives reasons. Does not spread out the stems. Does not flower inside the house, leaves fall off not matter what I do etc. Not that: "I don't know, I don't like the color." At lease that tells us there is no difficulty with the plant.
Something I noticed about all of these except the Hoya, they don’t look very natural. They look fake and cheaply manufactured while trying too hard to look real.
If you are only going to have one peperomia, you have to go the way of the turtle! Peperomia prostrata (string of turtles) - so cute you can’t help but love it.
For my wondering dude, I had to move it and keep moving it until I found it's spot . Because mine was doing the same thing. And now that I have found a spot it loves, I am in love of it.
I used to think pilea peperomoides looked so ugly, but now I have my own and love it! Helps that it pushes new growth like a champ (super rewarding and easy plant). So I get what you mean about your taste changing with time!
I feel like the love for scindapsus silvering over philodendron silvering is justified. Scindapsus has little flicks of sparkly silver, and philodendron just looks like a piece of duct tape 😂
Philodendron Birkin is one of my favorites because of how fast it grows! It's super happy all the time, pushed out three new leaves while battling spider mites... It's my well-behaved child that I don't ever have to worry about lol same with my Chinese evergreen, they just mind their business and thrive.
The nanouk definitely could look rly pretty if it was fuller and got top down light. Theyre super easy to propagate so just fill the pot and keep them trimmed so that its not vining like crazy
Love this laid back video, also this hair and your skin tone looks so good! I feel the same way about peperomias, but the ones I do have I'm so in love with and they're so basic and inexpensive. I recommend peperomia ruby cascade, peperomia scandens variegata (grows so cute) incana, and prostrata obviously
9:42 I have that one too, and I love it. I grew mine from a tiny piece that had broken of a plant in a big box store. And it grew SO fast when I had it in clear plastic cups without drainage. Then I put it in a terracotta pot, and it went downhill fast. Now I have it in a plastic pot with drainage, and it looks better but it’s still not growing. What type of soil do you have yours in? And do you allow it to dry out a little, or keep it moist? The thin leaved tradescantias are Thrips magnets...in my opinion. I do love the tricolor though. BTW caladiums do not have paper thin leaves. That surprised me the first time I touched one. I have one. It was douce in color, and I bought it not knowing what it was.
Caladiums are beautiful...outside in dark shade where they should be. Shade plants can be an ocean of green hostas if you aren’t careful - caladiums bring the color. Oxalis...meh...they are also better plants outside IMO. However - if you want to have a true “butterfly plant” - you should find a Christia vespertilionis. Red Butterfly Wings. They are rather magical - especially if they are in a place where a breeze catches them.
Oxalis triangularis are great. They’re very vocal when wanting water, don’t want to dry out, love the sun and move with it, close at night, have beautiful blooms all year round and are such a survival plant. As someone who neglects her plants too often I can say it is by far one of my favorites out of all 150 I have had (mainly love aroids specifically philodendron). Just as an informative 😊
Omg you broke my heart with the jewel orchid. I don’t like most of them but I really lOVe the lightning bolt macodes petola 🤣 also love oxalis but everything else was spot on LOL.
I think Oxalis is cute. It was known as "friendship plant" in high school. I had a few then. They grew like weeds. They were purple, I don't like purple plants. But recently I fell in love with the green ones. And the way they open an close during the 24 H period is super cute. They look awkward an fragile, but actually they are resilient.
Tradescantia Sillamontana and verigated pallida are my favorite Tradscantia. Try out a stronger Peperomia like the obtusifolia. As an easy start if you want to. It only needs water when the leaves are a little soft. Ive been wanting the Peperomia Incana! Luv your content Fern💚

I honestly love my Hoya retusa, in part for the flowers-- they don't form clusters like other hoya, rather they have little single flowers that smell like jasmine. And hot take: I'm not a huuuuge fan of the clustered flowers in comparison, I prefer the playfulness of the retusa. It just does something for me, lol.
Lol, I'm kind of amused that you said that you'd probably not do well with an oxalic because you are AMAZING with your plants. I have an oxalic that I bought at the grocery store 3 years ago this St Patrick's day (because shamrocks) and it's actually still alive! I am NOTORIOUSLY bad with plants so this is a pretty major accomplishment.
For the Birkin, it’s the texture for me. And I vote Peperomia Hope for your experiment. Treat it like a Hoya and only water when the thick succulent leaves become soft. I love the way it trails 😍

I have 2 philodendron birkins and I love them! I didn't in the beginning because when I brought it home it had very faint stripes but since I've been giving it a lot of light, the stripes are so vivid and bright. So it's like you get a plant that is super fancy looking but is actually cheap and is so, so easy-going and can take some neglect. That's why I love it 😂
oh i m so in love with hoya retusa! hoya linearis is also pretty but ro rare. I like the weird grass leaves, gives so much texture and unique pattern. :)
Everyone on TH-cam coming for my poor Birkin 😂 It grows nicely and has a few leaves with deep green chunks in between the stripes. Also it‘s been very easy to take care of. But! I got it without any knowledge of it‘s history (and at a good price). I can understand that might put one off 😄 And I am still quite new to plants so it was my first plant with any kind of white splashes. That was exciting to me haha
Yep the pictum tricolor was soooo overhyped earlier last year...when i got mine i was shocked at how long the stem was..i have no idea how to get lower leaves to grow on it...i fell out of love with that plant one day after getting it.
My Oxalis never goes dormant and just grows non-stop and blooms non-stop both my purple and green variety. To be fair, they grow outside prolifically in my yard and in all of my neighbor's yards.
If you like succulent type plants try a peperomia hope. I like the thick leaves on them, they’re so spongey and it will trail once it gets long enough. Also if you like pilea peperomides, try the peperomia raindrop. Similar leaves that can get pretty big. I love peperomias because they’re all so different. Much like the different Hoya varieties, so many options! Also I agree with you about every other plant haha.
It seems like so many people struggle with this one. My running theory is that people try to treat it like a philodendron hederaceum and it doesn't like that. So maybe it wants to stay a little moister or needs wayy more humidity?
Syngoniums... I'm tepid. They give me the same vibe as caladiums. I want to like them because on paper they tick so many boxes, but I can't get on board.
The plants I don't like anymore is FITTONIA & CROTON ( mine been attacked by mealybugs) 🙁..and now I am in love with Rhipsalis genus, Succulent and Cactus 🌵🌵🌵🥰🥰🥰
With the tradescantia, you should trim it very often and just stick the cuttings back into the soil and you will have a bushy pot in no time! two nodes per cutting should do it

I absolutely agree with you when it comes to the Birkin I looked for a for so long and when I found one I was not impressed at all. The pictures you see of them look really nice, by when I actually seen it, I was interested.
The thing I love about peperomia is that their growing season is during winter when nothing else is growing! I think obtusifolia is my favorite. Super easy, and it just sits there during the summer looking alive. 🙂

So this is where I'm at: - Peperomias, same... not interesting, I have 2 though .... still not convinced - Philodendron birkin... also same, I saw it in live and legit thought should I be excited for it (first time I saw one outside of youtube/insta) - Caladium and Oxalis triangularis, I get where you're coming from, mine just got dormant, I loved my oxalis because it gives colour, different foliage and movement and just makes me smile but if I can't revive it.... probably not worth it. And Caladium I love the contrast of the white to the green but it is very fragile and inconsistent. - jewel orchids and agleonema pictum tricolour are on my wish list I love little splashes but I don't get why they're so high in demand especially with the jewel orchids, like you said they're pretty small. - I want a tradescantia nanouk but maybe I'll opt for the green-white one - I wanted a scindapsus pictum with the small spots but got the silver splash/exotica kind bcs I thought basically the same but I'm not in love. So the philodendron brandtianum doesn't appeal to me like at all... My unpopular opinions: - I'm not really into orchids - monstera adinsonii is like, ok if you want it but meh... - sansevieria trifasciata, cylindrica.... ZZ plants... I like their ez-ness but .. mäh - begonias... meh - agleonemas in general are not my cup of tea though also diffenbachias... so boring - one that I have which I don't love, love is the hoya crimson princess in general I'm not as much on the varigation hype... e.g. monstera variegata ... - Anthuriums and syngonium... The best thing about the philo burkin is the leaf texture! It is way better to see in person, the white stripes are ridges. Not sure if you’ve seen/ felt one! I would definitely recommend it!

Peperomia prostrata...I mean it's like half animal. There are so many other peperomias that are interesting looking. Also the oxalis SEEMS like it would die but it's actually very hardy. For me it's hard to kill. Its a tuber like SOH so if you're successful with those the oxalis should be easy. :) Jewel orchids are GLORIOUS in person. They're glittery. COME ON. lol! Also I'm obsessed with the brandii patterns and the mamei leaves. Also the cissus. it's like velvet looking. LOVE IT. You know what though? It's ok to have different opinions. :)

When it comes to plant I find that I do not fancy colorful foliage. I don’t like caladiums or many aglaonemas. Don’t like pink princess either. I love all kinds of colors when it comes to flowers, but typically I love a bold solid color leaf color. I think many variegated plants are over hyped too, like these light green and dark green monsteras ppl been finding. Some look sickly and infected. I like mini fittonias, in cute mini pots. Anything in cute small pots gets me
LOL! Just about everything you mentioned... yup! The only peperomia I have is a 'beetle' which I am just barely keeping alive. Taking forever to develope new leaves. But did well when I placed it in a mini terrarium. I do like all the tradescantia though. They are so easy and grow really fast. For your little green striped one, just propagate a cutting and replant it in the bare spots in your pot. I wonder if you would like a monstera siltipicana? Very easy and fast growing. Great vid. Yep, all my tradescanthia have done that but they draw you in as they look so gorgeous when you buy them ! My plant I don’t really like are string of hearts - I know they are really popular but they tangle and knot up and I hate the thin stems ! Not a major orchid fan either although I do see the blooms are stunning x

I’ve had all of these (except birkin) and I don’t miss them at all!! 🪴 Philodendron brandtianum, sodiroi and mamei are more trouble than they’re worth. Micans, melanochrysum and gigas though...I want! 🤩 I have an aglaonema pictum tricolor. It’s the reason I started drinking again 🍻

If you are only going to have one peperomia, you have to go the way of the turtle! Peperomia prostrata (string of turtles) - so cute you can’t help but love it.
For my wondering dude, I had to move it and keep moving it until I found it's spot . Because mine was doing the same thing. And now that I have found a spot it loves, I am in love of it.
I grow caladium outdoors lol, I didn’t even realize for a long time that people grow them inside
I used to think pilea peperomoides looked so ugly, but now I have my own and love it! Helps that it pushes new growth like a champ (super rewarding and easy plant). So I get what you mean about your taste changing with time!
It depends on what type of peperomia, but I don't like the textured ones (Just my opinion)
Cracking up because I just picked up a philodendron birkin and a pink allusion caladium this weekend and they were the first two off the bat 😂
I feel like the love for scindapsus silvering over philodendron silvering is justified. Scindapsus has little flicks of sparkly silver, and philodendron just looks like a piece of duct tape 😂

Philodendron Birkin is one of my favorites because of how fast it grows! It's super happy all the time, pushed out three new leaves while battling spider mites... It's my well-behaved child that I don't ever have to worry about lol same with my Chinese evergreen, they just mind their business and thrive.
The nanouk definitely could look rly pretty if it was fuller and got top down light. Theyre super easy to propagate so just fill the pot and keep them trimmed so that its not vining like crazy
I think that green/white tradescantia is an albiflora albovittata. So pretty. 🙂🌱

I feel the same way about peperomias, but the ones I do have I'm so in love with and they're so basic and inexpensive. I recommend peperomia ruby cascade, peperomia scandens variegata (grows so cute) incana, and prostrata obviously

9:42 I have that one too, and I love it. I grew mine from a tiny piece that had broken of a plant in a big box store. And it grew SO fast when I had it in clear plastic cups without drainage. Then I put it in a terracotta pot, and it went downhill fast. Now I have it in a plastic pot with drainage, and it looks better but it’s still not growing. What type of soil do you have yours in? And do you allow it to dry out a little, or keep it moist? The thin leaved tradescantias are Thrips magnets...in my opinion. I do love the tricolor though.
BTW caladiums do not have paper thin leaves. That surprised me the first time I touched one. I have one. It was douce in color, and I bought it not knowing what it was.
Caladiums are beautiful...outside in dark shade where they should be. Shade plants can be an ocean of green hostas if you aren’t careful - caladiums bring the color.
Oxalis...meh...they are also better plants outside IMO. However - if you want to have a true “butterfly plant” - you should find a Christia vespertilionis. Red Butterfly Wings. They are rather magical - especially if they are in a place where a breeze catches them.
Oxalis triangularis are great. They’re very vocal when wanting water, don’t want to dry out, love the sun and move with it, close at night, have beautiful blooms all year round and are such a survival plant. As someone who neglects her plants too often I can say it is by far one of my favorites out of all 150 I have had (mainly love aroids specifically philodendron). Just as an informative 😊

I think Oxalis is cute. It was known as "friendship plant" in high school. I had a few then. They grew like weeds. They were purple, I don't like purple plants. But recently I fell in love with the green ones. And the way they open an close during the 24 H period is super cute. They look awkward an fragile, but actually they are resilient.

Try out a stronger Peperomia like the obtusifolia. As an easy start if you want to. It only needs water when the leaves are a little soft. Ive been wanting the Peperomia Incana! Luv your content Fern💚

I honestly love my Hoya retusa, in part for the flowers-- they don't form clusters like other hoya, rather they have little single flowers that smell like jasmine. And hot take: I'm not a huuuuge fan of the clustered flowers in comparison, I prefer the playfulness of the retusa. It just does something for me, lol.
Lol, I'm kind of amused that you said that you'd probably not do well with an oxalic because you are AMAZING with your plants. I have an oxalic that I bought at the grocery store 3 years ago this St Patrick's day (because shamrocks) and it's actually still alive! I am NOTORIOUSLY bad with plants so this is a pretty major accomplishment.
Oxalis are pretty annoying, that's why mine is outside, it's cute there plus it's huge now.
They are a great outside plant here in zone 8. Love the touch of purple in my garden.
For the Birkin, it’s the texture for me. And I vote Peperomia Hope for your experiment. Treat it like a Hoya and only water when the thick succulent leaves become soft. I love the way it trails 😍

I have 2 philodendron birkins and I love them! I didn't in the beginning because when I brought it home it had very faint stripes but since I've been giving it a lot of light, the stripes are so vivid and bright. So it's like you get a plant that is super fancy looking but is actually cheap and is so, so easy-going and can take some neglect. That's why I love it 😂
oh i m so in love with hoya retusa! hoya linearis is also pretty but ro rare. I like the weird grass leaves, gives so much texture and unique pattern. :)
Everyone on TH-cam coming for my poor Birkin 😂 It grows nicely and has a few leaves with deep green chunks in between the stripes. Also it‘s been very easy to take care of.
But! I got it without any knowledge of it‘s history (and at a good price). I can understand that might put one off 😄
And I am still quite new to plants so it was my first plant with any kind of white splashes. That was exciting to me haha
Yep the pictum tricolor was soooo overhyped earlier last year...when i got mine i was shocked at how long the stem was..i have no idea how to get lower leaves to grow on it...i fell out of love with that plant one day after getting it.
My Oxalis never goes dormant and just grows non-stop and blooms non-stop both my purple and green variety. To be fair, they grow outside prolifically in my yard and in all of my neighbor's yards.
If you like succulent type plants try a peperomia hope. I like the thick leaves on them, they’re so spongey and it will trail once it gets long enough. Also if you like pilea peperomides, try the peperomia raindrop. Similar leaves that can get pretty big. I love peperomias because they’re all so different. Much like the different Hoya varieties, so many options!
Also I agree with you about every other plant haha.

It seems like so many people struggle with this one. My running theory is that people try to treat it like a philodendron hederaceum and it doesn't like that. So maybe it wants to stay a little moister or needs wayy more humidity?
Brandi likes lots of humidity and to stay moist. Like why?? Why you gotta have so many rules Brandi???

Syngoniums... I'm tepid. They give me the same vibe as caladiums. I want to like them because on paper they tick so many boxes, but I can't get on board.

With the tradescantia, you should trim it very often and just stick the cuttings back into the soil and you will have a bushy pot in no time! two nodes per cutting should do it

I absolutely agree with you when it comes to the Birkin I looked for a for so long and when I found one I was not impressed at all. The pictures you see of them look really nice, by when I actually seen it, I was interested.
The thing I love about peperomia is that their growing season is during winter when nothing else is growing! I think obtusifolia is my favorite. Super easy, and it just sits there during the summer looking alive. 🙂

UHhh JUICY.... So this is where I'm at:
- Peperomias, same... not interesting, I have 2 though .... still not convinced
- Philodendron birkin... also same, I saw it in live and legit thought should I be excited for it (first time I saw one outside of youtube/insta)
- Caladium and Oxalis triangularis, I get where you're coming from, mine just got dormant, I loved my oxalis because it gives colour, different foliage and movement and just makes me smile but if I can't revive it.... probably not worth it. And Caladium I love the contrast of the white to the green but it is very fragile and inconsistent.
- jewel orchids and agleonema pictum tricolour are on my wish list I love little splashes but I don't get why they're so high in demand especially with the jewel orchids, like you said they're pretty small.
- I want a tradescantia nanouk but maybe I'll opt for the green-white one
- I wanted a scindapsus pictum with the small spots but got the silver splash/exotica kind bcs I thought basically the same but I'm not in love. So the philodendron brandtianum doesn't appeal to me like at all...
My unpopular opinions:
- I'm not really into orchids
- monstera adinsonii is like, ok if you want it but meh...
- sansevieria trifasciata, cylindrica.... ZZ plants... I like their ez-ness but .. mäh
- begonias... meh
- agleonemas in general are not my cup of tea though also diffenbachias... so boring
- one that I have which I don't love, love is the hoya crimson princess
in general I'm not as much on the varigation hype... e.g. monstera variegata ...
- Anthuriums and syngonium...

The best thing about the philo burkin is the leaf texture! It is way better to see in person, the white stripes are ridges. Not sure if you’ve seen/ felt one! I would definitely recommend it!

Lol caladiums ARE outdoor plants. They look great in mass plantings and tolerate heat in the summer.

Peperomia prostrata...I mean it's like half animal. There are so many other peperomias that are interesting looking. Also the oxalis SEEMS like it would die but it's actually very hardy. For me it's hard to kill. Its a tuber like SOH so if you're successful with those the oxalis should be easy. :) Jewel orchids are GLORIOUS in person. They're glittery. COME ON. lol! Also I'm obsessed with the brandii patterns and the mamei leaves. Also the cissus. it's like velvet looking. LOVE IT. You know what though? It's ok to have different opinions. :)

My oxalis is my favorite plant right now!!! It’s flowering the cutest light purple flowers! It moves through out the day. literally it brings me so much joy everyday!

When it comes to plant I find that I do not fancy colorful foliage. I don’t like caladiums or many aglaonemas. Don’t like pink princess either. I love all kinds of colors when it comes to flowers, but typically I love a bold solid color leaf color. I think many variegated plants are over hyped too, like these light green and dark green monsteras ppl been finding. Some look sickly and infected.
I like mini fittonias, in cute mini pots. Anything in cute small pots gets me
I recommend a string of turtles. They are soo cute and do really well in terrariums. The leaves look like turtle shells!
LOL! Just about everything you mentioned... yup! The only peperomia I have is a 'beetle' which I am just barely keeping alive. Taking forever to develope new leaves. But did well when I placed it in a mini terrarium. I do like all the tradescantia though. They are so easy and grow really fast. For your little green striped one, just propagate a cutting and replant it in the bare spots in your pot. I wonder if you would like a monstera siltipicana? Very easy and fast growing. Great vid. Yep, all my tradescanthia have done that but they draw you in as they look so gorgeous when you buy them ! My plant I don’t really like are string of hearts - I know they are really popular but they tangle and knot up and I hate the thin stems ! Not a major orchid fan either although I do see the blooms are stunning x
We have 90% the same plant dislikes. I love jewel orchids though and want to try them again. I’ve had all of these (except birkin) and I don’t miss them at all!! 🪴
