    The funny thing about being a fan of the hobby is seeing all of the videos recently about the veil-touched. I like the guys at MWG and love the models. Dude, even Baldermort did a hilarious lore video about them. Glad they reached out to the people who the fans watch and like because people like me got to see all of the fun videos you guys did on the awesome models.

    EONS AGO I was on TH-cam and I watched a video of some lunatic smashing a TV and extracting it's components to create stuff for some weird hobby. It was Dave from Mini Wargaming. After I watched that video, I went down a huge rabbit hole, introducing me into the hobby.

    I like the more "warped" style of these models. It looks like they've been properly twisted over 10,000 years, rather than clean lines and clean spikey bits added. They resonate more with the narrative of the chaos astartes being twisted forms, rather than that they've sat and added stuff to their armour themselves

      The plague marine sculpts arr incredible.

    • @baalgar5530
      @baalgar5530 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well thats the thing. Chaos marines aren’t inherently corrupted or demonic at all. Many are simply normal Astartes that only care about overthrowing the imperium, and all the spikey bits and new trim is just decoration they’ve added to their armor to stand apart from the Imperium.

    1. Just after the drybrushing, it looked amazing.
    2. if you put some paint on one brush, and flick it, I think you'll get the blood you're looking for.

    If you put a little paint on an old toothbrush, then you can directionally spatter it to create those blood drops. You can change how fine it sprays by changing how fluid the paint is.
    Great Vid with the different techniques per model.

    • @captainsewerrat

      Came here to say that. They are cool, but they look more video game characters. Overengineered and too busy I think. Where say a GW Chaos Marine is a 7 or an 8, they kinda cranked it up to 12. Probably partially so they would definitely not look like a GW Model but overshot it.

    For good blood spatters I would recommend using a dingy brush and then flicking from it with a toothpick. For bigger blobs you use more paint on the brush, for smaller speckles you can use less and/or dilute the paint with a bit of water.

  • @nickyforsythe
    @nickyforsythe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When working with blood for the blood god a good tip to make it look more realistic is to add it straight from the pot for a few pieces. Then mix a little with black ink and put a few splodges of that over the same piece. It makes it look like thick congealed blood and looks a little less flat. Even better is to do the same with timiya red paint. It gets an awesome sticky texture when drying and can be manipulated to look gross and realistic

    To get a splattered / sprayed blood effect I like to use a flat brush and my airbrush. Simply put some blood color on the tip of the flat brush, hit it with some air from the airbrush. Varying color density, air pressure, angle and distance between brush, airbrush and mini you'll get different random looking effects.

    Blood drops...get paint on your brush end then use air from your airbrush behind it to spay the paint off the brush onto the target. It works really well with red ink.

  • @aerouge4492
    @aerouge4492 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Blood for the Bloodgod: grab an old toothbrush... dip a few bristles into Bftbg and drag your thumb over it so the bristles snap back towards your model... this produces a wellscaled bloodsplatter. If you do this from a single direction you can even get "object sourced splatter" - or OSS ;-)

    • @MrBizteck
      @MrBizteck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Saw a video yesterday where someone dipped the brush in GW Blood and fired air from an airbrush through it. It was very effective.

    • @aerouge4492
      @aerouge4492 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrBizteck Thats a good technique as well but requires A) an airbrush and B) some practise. I found the old toothbrush method easier and cheaper if slightly more messy. Hence I always recommend the tootbrush ;-)

    As wierd as it may sound, my sister makes big use of bridal eyeshadow kit brushes. A lot more control then using a bit of sponge , the henna tissues(use for creating short term skin ornaments) are a good tool for creating cracked armour/demonic veins patterns on models.

  • @gangrenemccluster7680
    @gangrenemccluster7680 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A great technique I've seen for splattering blood like that on a model is to load up a paint brush with the blood, hold it about an inch in front of the area you want splattered, and give the brush a brief blast with your empty airbrush.

    I can't say I agree, I think they look over designed and too edge lordy, which is ironic considering what Chaos is. Much prefer GWs official version, find the whole veil touched thing to be a bit cringe tbh

      I like the variety and they’d make some sick Night Lords, but you are right. There is TOO much going on with those miniatures. It’s almost like the designers were not secure in their design so they kept adding stuff on.

Top of my head some of the possesed art i have seen has aspects I like better then offical miniatures, which are a bit less fantasy armor and more like space marine armor being molded into living thing

    As a Kid, my favourite GW Chaos models were the Khorne Beserkers. That was like 20 years ago and it's still the same bloody models. I'd like to see ALL marine models be it Tactical Marines, Sanguinary Guard or Chaos Marines upscaled to match Primaris sizes, they look ridiculous next to Primaris. But some Chaos models need new sculpts all together. It's one thing having so many mini marines but Khorne Beserkers look like they were already outdated before Chaos turned against the Emperor

    Haven't used Blood for the Blood God, but for other similar effects instead of blowing it directly out of a straw, grab some paint on a medium brush and blow through it with a straw. Used to do that for splatter on historical aircraft and tanks. Or for larger models, but some on an old toothbrush and flick the bristles with the thumb while hopefully pointing it in the proper direction.

  • @violetcorvidgaming4507
    @violetcorvidgaming4507 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you want to get a realistic spray effect with blood for the blood god, dip a tough bristled brush into a splurge of the paint and flick it at the miniature. Yes you have less control but the affect is that of someone who has literally carved an arm off with a chainsword. You can mask the model aswell before doing this, to only get it in areas you want.

    Does anyone know of any online pics of this drybrushing the trim on the GW chaos sculpts? I'm curious if it looks goon on the official chaos sculpts, as I have a lot of chaos that I've been putting off painting because the trim is such a pain. But If this looks good on them, I might finally get round to it lol.

    It’s funny you called the first color scheme slaves to darkness instead of the Black Legion…the biggest Chaos Space Marine faction out there.

    "old gold" never goes silver. Not sure why so many miniature painters do this. I see it over and over again. It's a modern thing that happens to plated metals, not something that would happen to a yellow metal.

      You are correct, but gold trim is mostly leaf gold or another covering of another metal, not a solid gold bar. If that gold scratches off, the brass or steel underneath will show.

      @@mycatistypingthis5450 not really. Generally edges and decorations on armor are full gold or most likely brass. In the case of Damascene where they do have a very thin layer of gold is not on edges where it gets scratched easily. Anyway, none of that applies seeing these big armor pieces we're talking about are not like that.
      I just find it weird people dulling out their gold's and bronze with silver. I'm a game artist, and I see junior artists in my team doing this error all the time, thinking if it's brighter, silver will do.

      @@dunka12 dude you are so wrong here and even 2 seconds of research would have saved you from looking like a fool. they did not trim there armor in gold or brass and yes i know Damascening is a thing but it was way more common thing for weapons than for armor, digging out steel so that you can inlay gold is a really really bad idea for protection.
      the common trick for armor was gilding the armor aka glueing the gold to the armor. so gold leaf gold paint yes they had gold paint and then my favorite fire gilding were thy would take powdered gold put it into a mercury suspension to apply it ( whats a little mercury poisoning among artificers) and then "bake / burn" the mercury off bonding the gold powder to the steel armor.
      why does this matter? because this is just gold paint or powder over steel armor still the gilding will become damaged and the steel below it will show through till it is repaired so at a distance it will go from dark to ligh because the steel is showing though.
