My ex GF and I got a dog as a puppy, he was great at first, however he developed food aggression. I worked with him for months and even got bit a few times. He got use to me, but never got use to my GF's kids. The final straw was when he bit the 8yr olds hand when she grabbed a bone that was a foot away from him. Instead of putting him down we went to social media to find a suitable home. He was a labadoodle and he lived the rest of his life on 20acres with a Labrador and a single women.
You are a caring, responsible owner. That's what most good people would do...then their are the sadists........who rationalize their animal abuse. Right Kristi.?

@Kevin-se8sp I had a almost similar situation. Except my dog couldn't get a loving home. I kept looking and looking but no place would take him. The shelters around where I live all were shelters that put down aggressive dogs. It was the hardest thing I've done because it is one thing to put down a animal who is suffering and another to put down a dog with so much energy and life. I did so much to try to get him to improve. He did improve a significant amount, but not enough to get him to a new home. It was depressing to think he could end up in another home that abused him like the original owners. It also didn't help that I didn't teach him English language commands. I never thought I'd separate from the dog so I didn't see an issue with it (something I wish I had done differently myself).
I understood why the people who gave us the dog were looking for people online to give the dog to, because no shelter would take him at that time because of the abuse they subjected the dog to. When I first picked him up from the original owners, when I picked him up for the first time he whimpered and urinated on the group. The owners left very quickly after the hand off. I noticed the dog selectively feared males and then I realized the situation.
I spent over a year trying to get him to be better. He went from a urban area which was even worse, to a pretty rural area, although he was so close to his ideal environment he still wasn't where he needed to be since I didn't have acres of fenced in yard which is probably what he needed (along with farm animals to herd). I also was never told what breed the dog was so it was hard to determine his exact requirements but through time I realize he was a high energy dog and probably a working dog breed. After putting posts online, calling everywhere around, including cities far from my own, I realized the only thing I could do was to try to get him adopted by the shelter. I got him to the shelter and kept refreshing their website to see if they had put the adoption picture up.
The weekend went by and nothing... The next week I get a call and get the worst news. They tell me they can't adopt him since he shows food aggression. I had told them to not put him down so they called me to ask what I wanted to do. I told them I would come and be there with him during his final moments to make sure he has someone who loved him there. I cried and cried. I buried him with his favorite toy near his head and put a biscuit between this front teeth before burying him myself. I cry just writing the story here now.
People need to understand not everyone is a demon for having to make tough choices. My wife and I are vegans, we are against animal cruelty, factory farming, and we even make a point to adopt instead of buying dogs from breeders. We never expected such an outcome but are still happy we got to meet a one of a kind dog and we truly miss him. If wish I had the means to provide the dog everything he ever needed and wanted but that isn't always possible... I think of him all the time.

One of the first things that jumped out at me about this incident was the training of the dog. Bird dogs are trained in a very specific way, and it does not involve an electronic collar. Shock collars are a shortcut tool used by ignorant or stupid people who do not know how to interact with dogs. They are used by people who do not know how, or do not want to take the time, to train a dog properly--and they rarely work anyway, usually resulting in a confused and fearful dog. This incident solidifies that she is not a dog person, does not know how to train a dog, and more specifically, does not know how to train a bird dog. And the goat--AARGH! I have no problem with animals being put down when necessary, even by the owner, but Noem is abysmally ignorant and proud of it, to the point of bragging about it.

That statement proves that Noem used to allow Cricket to run loose on the farm and meet her kids coming off the bus. So this dog was such a "vicious" animal that she HAD to put it down, but on the other hand, she used to let it greet her children getting off the bus every day? Somewhere in there is a lie.

It was 14 months old and wasn’t even trained yet. Growing up on a ranch doesn’t automatically make it okay to kill animal because it killed a chicken…that’s what animals do; they hunt. She may have felt justified in this unnecessary killing but she comes off as callous.

I grew up on a farm. Sure, animals had to be put down every once in a while but we always called a vet to do the job. Plus it was ALWAYS a decision that was well thought out and never taken lightly. We aren’t out here taking lives left and right.
Also, such a great point made in the video about how voters are being gaslight. She KNEW this would rile people up. She KNEW that the vast majority of people to see this wouldn’t understand farm life and how loss of animal lives is part and parcel (again, not necessarily in this manner). She never told you when she got the dog did she, what age she got it exactly would matter there because it's an actual puppy still at 9-10 months so if that were the case then she only gave it four months maybe 5 and making it a hunting dog takes more time than that. My family rescued a starving huge Chesapeake Bay Retriever. He was some what skittish and possibly dangerous but we fed him loved him and dodged a couple of biting attempts. We taught him to retrieve ducks which wasn't hard. He became a great dog and family member. Kirsti is a failure.

My grandfather shot his first deer on a hunt. Walked up to the deer he was still alive. Botched shot. In tears he brought the deer to a vet and fixed him up. Never went hunting again. His dad called him 'weak.'

I’ve done social work for years, I’ve seen people get sick in the country and NEVER get a visitor, get less medical care because the Dr.s are a little slower, and basically be home bound because of transportation. When a neighbor gets sick in the city they have more visitors, more compassion, and more resources. People who live in the country live there because they value privacy and being left alone, which means by default that they are more selfish people, although very polite in line at the Walmart, but how much of that politeness is simply fear????

A relative was stationed in Germany and his dog bit someone. They took the dog away from the bad owner, retrain the dog and someone else adopts it. We just kill things way too easily.

No Bad Dogs : 1. you don't let run free a dog you've FAILED to train with verbal or other successful recall; 2. you don't essentially 'train' the dog to have a great time killing birds and then wonder why it wants to go kill all birds; 3. you don't leave an "untrained" dog unsupervised in a car with the windows down and claim it "escaped" like it can open doors; 4. if your dog is biting you when you try to control it, you FAILED being a trainer and pack leader, failed to have basic understanding of how dogs posture or recognize authority; 5. dogs don't have "bad temperaments" they have bad owners who don't take the time to understand the individual personaility and sensitivities or triggers of their dog and which bred-in traits are present that professional breed trainers openly publish how to work with; 6. no matter what your dog does, you either learn what to do about it or you hand the animal off to someone who already knows. Period. 7. If you can't do #6 AT THE VERY LEAST, you have no business handling or having animals.

Let me tell you something my daddy was a farmer and he had animals and he would eventually have to slaughter them for food and that's a big difference what this woman did. My dad would have never killed an animal just because the animal wasn't performing to his liking. My Dad loved his animals and his dogs he had hunting dogs he went hunting frequently, but he had respect for life. He didn't just kill for sport or because he didn't like a dog or an animal and I have seen my dad in action when it comes to defending an animal. That's the most disgusting cruel thing I've ever heard in my entire life, they say that people who are cruel to animals like this there were other Alternatives but she didn't even consider those because she was in for the thrill of the kill. I hate to see her on Judgement Day, God loves his animals and he would have made sure to see if there is any other alternative which would have been to see if you can find another home for the animal or even go to the shelter. They say that people that do these kind of things in that cruelty to animals are really the most evil people in the world is I believe she is

My best friend growing up was forced to shoot his old lab, that was riddled with cancer, in the head with a .22 . A very traumatic event, but it was intended to end the dog's suffering. Couldn't imagine someone doing this to a healthy puppy just because they didn't train it properly.
Lost my first dog on my birthday, 2009, when I was at work. Second, dog had to be put to sleep in 2021. My brother sat with her in the vets when they did it, I was too busy being in the vets bathroom crying so hard I threw up twice. Im 45.

Imo, the puppy had embarassed her twice in one day.. First, by running around flushing pheasants so she couldn’t shoot them, and showing that Noem hadn’t properly trained her in front of other hunters. Then Noem felt the need to stop by neighbors’ and failed to secure her dog,who escaped and killed their chickens, so she had to write them a check. after chasing down her pup, which she whined had ‘tried’ to bite her. Noem was obviously upset because of her own shortcomings as a responsible pet owner. She called Cricket, less than worthless, but actually dared to reveal that her own child asked where Cricket was. I haven’t seen the child’s reaction when told that Cricket was dead.

This story is particularly upset to me as a dog owner. A 14 month dog is a practically puppy. Yeah maybe it was super prey driven and either needed more training or in this case better training. Hand the dog over to another farmer, send it to a shelter or put it up for adoption. Dogs are typically put down for being old/in pain, bitting or being the wrong breed for adoption.
I know the animal world is harsh and nature is way more unforgiving than our humanity might prefer. But we are intelligent animals with the capacity to learn. Just like that poor dog she killed.
She was also responsible for her dog getting out of the car to kill the chickens.
And that dog killed innocent bugs stepping on while going after those chickens!!!
