So I wanted to do everyone here a service and provide the direct quote from the book as to why she shot the dog. As part of training the dog for pheasant hunting.
"..out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life”.
She destroyed the dog because it ruined her hunting. Not because it was biting people.
She was training Cricket to hunt pheasants, and then was shocked she attacked chickens 😂

No, my uncle owns a horse ranch. He trains puppies into working dogs. According to him. She did not tether the dog. That is how it got out.

Also, when a woman or her baby is dealing with a traumatic health issue, it is additional trauma to have to explain it and ask lawmakers permission to do what needs to be done. It is VERY traumatic to deliver a baby you love and want that has health issues. Especially if you live in a poor household without the resources to handle said issues. Even if its just emotional resources. Being a parent is hard. Being a poor parent is harder. Lawmakers have no place in a woman and drs decision to abort. If a woman is not equipped to carry a pregnancy she shouldn't be forced to. Pregnancy AND abortion is miserable. Why don't the men have to explain THEIR part in these womens "choices" and their contributions to abortion????

@@johnhart8358 I have, had a particular horse a long time, long enough to know she was coming up on the end. When the day came she went down, and could not get up, well I cared for her enough that I wasn't gunna shoot her. Vet drove over an hour to see to it she went peaceful.

I am African. No one deliberately kills their pet in Africa. Even if your dog bites your neighbor with no signs of rabies, we do not just put it down.

I think the key piece is that the construction workers saw it, so she was trying to get in front of it politically, so it wouldn't come back and haunt her during the presidential campaign (I felt like Trump was going to pick her for sure). Do not get me wrong, I'm not justifying what she did, she executed a dog that displeased her, I'm just trying to make sense of putting it in a book.

NGWPR strongly condemns such action by anyone and especially by a public figure such as Governor Noem. The decision to kill a trusting young dog in such a manner shows lack of judgement, ignorance and cruelty.
Sporting breeds are bred with bird/hunting instincts but it takes training and effort to have a working field dog.
We call on Governor Noem to take accountability for this horrific decision and to dedicate time and to use her position to educate the public that there are humane solutions to managing a difficult young canine - training, breeder involvement, mentors and rescues are all available.

Why aren`t people talking about the fact that she took that dog in a rage, down into a working gravel pit so that NOBODY could hear the shots. That dog embarrassed her in front of her hunting partners and then killed her neighbors chickens after jumping out the back of her truck (her fault). And I don`t believe that dog tried to attack her. She was in a rage. After her first kill, I believe she lost it. After she shot Cricket, she got the taste of blood and thought about "that smelly Goat" she "hated". Those are her words. Anyway, she never brought a shovel. She thought the workers would just find the bodies and bury them in the pit where they dig gravel. Fortunately, there were still workers there, working late and saw it ALL!
The weirdest part is, Kristi Nome stopped at a friend's house with a dog that was being trained to kill birds and DIDN'T expect Cricket to kill birds. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️

I’m assuming you are talking about pheasant hunting. The dog does not kill the bird he smells them out and points. They also retrieve they do not kill
She took the puppy pheasant hunting - she took her to a field/forest to chase large birds and to attack them. Then the puppy gets in trouble and executed because it chased and killed a neighbor's chicken. Noem taught the dog the very behavior that she was upset about! A 14 month old puppy can't tell the difference! And the goat she killed just because she thought it was 'ugly, smelly and chased her children'. Hello....it's a goat! It's what they do! For someone who was raised on a ranch/farm - she has an incredible intolerance of animals. Real ranchers and farmers care and respect for their animals and would never let them suffer or die needlessly. In my opinion, how someone treats an animal is a good judge of their character. Someone who doesn't like animals at all probably doesn't tolerate humanity at all either. So far - that anayasis has never steered me wrong.
Although I am a die-hard conservative, I found Christie Noem's actions to be both mind-boggling and disturbing. While I believe she is a good governor and I support her, I cannot condone her actions. As an animal lover, I believe there could have been steps taken to control the unruly behavior of animals. There are many animal psychologists available who could have helped. Though I do not judge the governor of South Dakota, I do believe that her decision was not the right thing to do, and it saddens me.

I can vouch that it is not a "reality of rural life" that we shoot our young working animals (dogs, horses) because they simply aren't yet trained yet to do the job. And if for some reason that animal proves to not be a good fit for the job, then you absolutely will try other options for that animal not including shooting them. It sounds like she was in a hate-filled fit of rage at the time and couldn't control herself. What about that makes her "vice president" material?
Indeed. We've had everything from hamsters to horses. Sometimes training doesn't take and we've had to rehome them, or accept them as is.

My dad once found a dog in a dumpster behind the place he worked at the time. He brought the dog home and we were his family for the rest of his life. We put him to sleep in 2011. And I was at work. So I was not able to be there with him to properly say goodbye. I have had 3 pets put to sleep since then 2 dogs and 1 cat. This story about Noem really gets to me. I forever hate this woman.
The dog my dad found in the dumpster was thrown away like a piece of garbage.
My ex once asked me to put the old family dog n the bed of the truck. I gladly obliged thinking she was gonna take her for a ride. Daisy loved to ride n trucks so she was ecstatic when I played n the truck. Later n the day I learnt my ex had taken her to a vet and had her euthanized. Altho poor blind very old Daisy better days were far behind her, I still remembered how happy she was when I put n the truck. It still breaks my heart. 💔

We had a dog that was about the same age as cricket. Out of control and unruly we brought to a no kill rescue. Donated a bunch of food to the shelter and they found it a good home. It was easy and I felt better for giving the dog another chance

Noem is 100% responsible for that dog's behavior. Dogs don't develop their behavior in a vacuum (unless they're feral). Humans train dogs. Noem failed completely in her job, either to train it herself or hire a trainer, which she could easily afford.

One year I was helping my elderly parents milk their goats and manage Wilhelm, the Billy goat. Ran away a lot, hauled him home with a one-inch rope and a truck. And boy did he stink. We never got many young goats either. One day, the goat was gone and having been around my dad growing up, I knew what happened to Wilhelm.
He's simply stating that many other locations around the world wouldn't care.
I mean, china... don't look what they do to dogs.
You can't be a farmer and say your goat stinks so I killed it. Take from a family of farmers.

We bought property with a friend of ours. We both plan on farming. He took a FREE billy goat. For almost a year straight, this thing has tried to attack me every chance he gets. Yeah I own a few pew pews. But I don't want to kill the stupid thing. But I also don't want to be attacked all the time. So the other night when this dumb goat decided to try and attack my dog in the middle of the night he got a shovel wacked on his horns. It didn't kill his just rang his bell enough to make him run and leave my dog alone. I also have two pups (1 yr old in June) these guys came to me after being abused and mistreated for chasing chickens. These pups were skin and bones when they came to me. It's been five months. They don't chase chickens. They try to heard them into one group. They are border collies and Aussie shep mix. These pups are still scared of their own shadows some days. The smaller one just started barking. No way even if they still chased chickens would I kill them. If necessary I would re-home them. What this lady did is just wrong!!

If you have to put down an animal and want to do it humanly you call a vet. They will do it if it is warranted. If not then you surrender the animal to a shelter.

I’m not a dog person but I had a dog as a kid (a puppy pitbull) that bit a neighbor kid (who ran into our house). We did live in a rural area and the kids dad demanded he be put down.. so he was. Also shot in the face by a family member. It was traumatic and so now I cannot form attachments to pets, especially dogs. If he HAD to be put down, it should’ve been humanely at the vet. In my opinion there is no reason, aside from actively mauling someone to death, to shoot a dog. A puppy? Over a bird? She wanted to shoot that dog and she only put that story in there and then continued to stand by it because she knows her base.

Couldn’t she had rehomed the puppy? Could she had hired a dog trainer? Could she taken the puppy to the Vet and had him put down with medication. No, she took the puppy to a pit and shot him then killed a goat. She sounds like a sociopath.
