- South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is facing widespread condemnation for shooting her dog. In her upcoming autobiography, "No Going Back," Noem writes that her wire-haired pointer had an “aggressive personality” and was "untrainable." When her dog slaughtered the neighbor's chickens, Noem revealed that she shot the dog in the head. Now, her admission may have torpedoed Noem's chances of being named Donald Trump's running mate. @@seanwhite201 our Belgian Malinois will kill chickens. They have a strong prey drive. It killed a rooster while it was staying with a friend who was breeding it with his female. His fault. The neighbor where my brother used to live had chickens but our Malinois never bothered them because they were in an enclosure. Dogs were descended from wolves. The instinct is there. You have to train them. My brother’s wife has two cats and so does some other Malinois owners. You have to work with these dogs to tolerate a cat. Training a dog is working with them each and every day. You praise and reward them when they do well and correct them when they do not.

We had someone's dogs chase our horses through barbwire fences and caused them a lot of damage. The dogs got put down by the sheriff.

Yea, as someone who happens to have a few goats myself, the goat story is absolutely the most egregious of the two, and exposes her as an absolute psychopath. Not only should she not be allowed to own any more animal property, the women should not have been allowed to bear children. I feel sorry for them, she's undoubtedly scarred them for life.

I spent a lot of time there and saw a well-run establishment.
There was never a problem because my sister, unlike Noem, knew proper animal husbandry. Even her alpha Great Dane, a fierce dog, never attacked the chickens or any other animal.

City folks clearly don't understand, and that's okay, but in the country and with farm/ranch life it is not uncommon for a dog to be humanely put down by its owner if it's agressive and violemt. Most ranchers don't run to town for every need they have. Living so far away from towns means they learn how to take care of most things on their own from basic vet care for livestock to basic health care for themselves to mechanical issues, etc. Ranchers take having to put an animal down very seriously and do everything possible to make it humane and quick. Sometimes it's an aggressive dog, sometimes it's a dying calf, sometimes it's an old horse that's suffering....ranching is a way of life that most people couldn't begin to understand.
… And because of that lack of understanding on the part of the large majority of us, it probably would have behooved her not to include that incident in the book
