In this video i'll make repairs on enlarger Durst M605 and try to make LED light source in it because 100W LED have only 50h of worktime.

Thanks for the video, I’ll probably continue to use the halogen lamps while they are still available, but it is still nice to know that LED replacements are an option when halogen lamps are extinct

Try Van Eck in the Netherlands or Nordfoto. They should have Osram 64627 lamps available.

Yep, also from Macodirect or Fotoimpex

This was a great video, before I got my Intrepid enlarger I was using a really old, medium format black and white enlarger that I got for free from a friends mom because they had it laying around at the college she worked at, I had to replace the bulb there too but it was a really weird socket so I just modified it slightly, basically shoved one of the light sockets you find at your house in there and bought a 4000K 30w bulb to put in there, it worked great until I decided that I wanted to try the Intrepid.

Thank you! Yep, with Interpid you are using addictive light, so you need less power and it's superior in terms of energy and color separation in general if they use the right LED and not just RGB LEDs.

Hello... only 50 watt? I have a CLS66 durst with a 100w halogen lamp and the light on the table is so poor that I cannot see the image!

it depends on the construction and size and distance pf the image, i only make 20x25 enlargement

In terms of color, incandescent and halogen lights are the gold standard. The color redention index of you enlarger lamp is 100. Although things are getting better, LED lights have a hard time emulating the spectrum of a halogen lamp. Your enlarger takes a standard EFP halogen enlarger lamp, 100W 12V, no? I know the inconvenience of stuff getting hot and the longevity is also not great. Was it 50 hours or so? Still that equates 1000s of prints.
Finally, the most important, it is guaranteed to work with every filter, lens, paper combination you can get your hands on. It is one less variable to worry about. And with the current prices of darkroom stuff, I'm more than happy paying about 10 euros and skipping all the testing.

Yep, it's around 50 hours in "imaginary work of datasheet" if it's running constantly, you need to keep in mind what turns on and off quickly for this light's not a good thing because of chemical cycle inside. I also have two problems with it what I don't like - temperature change spectrum a bit and spectrum changes to the end of the life of the lamp and also start-stop speed not always consistent, but it's not so important. More important what color separation with additive light works better on modern paper. And in general I don't think what CRI gives any difference on paper exposure, just because it's made for 3 single wavelength laser sources with sigma of 5-10 nm in wavelength

I came across your channel at random, however I have just purchased a M305 BW but was interested as lights that don’t generate heat are obviously far better for the planet and the pocket.
I would have thought that simple black electrical tape around the lamp or even black spray paint would be an easy way to direct the loss of light around the rear area, especially as there is little heat generated, the spray paint can be that used on stoves or exhaust pipes that allow far in excess of any heat generated. I am a little confused also at the point of your test, is it in the basis of heat v planet or accessibility of product, cost or a combination.
I hope you realise this isn’t an attack on your video, but rather a clarification in order to arrive at a solution.

Or you can just buy good halogen lamp with glass reflector ;)

Interesting. My Durst 605 has melted for the third time. On very long exposures it melts. I'll have to replace everything for the third time. .(

Yep, it definitely have bad cooling and not supposed to run longer then 15-20 seconds with 100w lamp

Really impressed with your achievement using the led bulb.
Should you ever want to use the proper halogen bulb for this enlarger then search for this one:
Osram Xenophot 64627 12v/100w. They shouldn't be too expensive. The original Durst Colamp 12/100w variation is!
    All the best!
