I can't agree or disagree with the theory until I watch DSOD but regardless great job! I like how you looked into Kaibas backstory and went that extra mile to backup your points. Really interesting theory and really well made video!
When Kaiba was in the Afterlife, you could see him fading. Just as he was fading when he lost a Game Of Shadows. Therefore, he faded FROM THE AFTERLIFE. Maybe he was technically dead during his time in the Afterlife. But that's about it, and at one point his consciousness would return to the world of the living. My theory would be Kaida using some sort of a near-death experience; if anyone, he would be the one pooling enough resources into this. Even if we consider GX non-canon, or the other Arcs that follow; or the anime... him just shutting down Mokuba like that doesn't fit his char at all. The rest of your explanations are as such not to be ignored, but ultimately pointless.
Ok firslySeto is my absolute favourite character since I was 8. I'm now 24and I agree with this theory, tho I saw how op trued to touch on the unspoken emotions of kaiba in the movie he didn't speak on just how strong they are. Essentiallywhen kaiba lived and atem did too he was a source of constant motivation and drive for Seto, he pushed him to do good and be a better man (such as when he helped him in his fight with Malik, or when he saved anzu and joey1 year has passed and we see the way kaiba has already started to crumble without atem, now that thier are no more people to rise up and challenge him. He essentially has no more purposeIn the transcendent game mini manga, we see that Seto is fully willing to sacrifice everything to get to atem. And essentially learned the definite way to reach atem. In his first attempt kisara appeared, to both protect Seto from entering and dieng, and possibly to say, even if you die you wont see atem.but once he gets the cube he can freely travel the dimensions. However even aigami could not use it to reach atem,, so perhaps kaiba realized that he could use the cube to bypass his own afterlife in see atems, or bring atem into his afterlife.people who argue the GX thoery dont realize its cannonity is disputed greatlyand as far as kazuki Takashi feels this is the series' true endingit not only makes sense that kaiba should die but it feels right too. He cant be happy in life without atem, so he made sure in death he would besome say well kaiba didn't die he used the cube, but then if kaiba came back, he'd still have the cube and he'd be able to see atem whenever he wantedwhich is just wrong on so many levelsfor a whole movie that spends its time crying I miss atem, it just makes way more sense kaiba dies and using the cube, is able to see atem
I think that throughout this movie, I can confirm that Kaiba is gay for Atem and wants to see him again no matter what (even if it means killing himself) 😂
One thing I'd like to point out is that I highly believe Seto told Mokuba he's in charge. But what's not said in the movie is that it was most likely only while he was gone and meeting Atem
in the movie it shows kaiba walking into the dimension of pharaoh and it seems like kaiba challenging atem to win against all with atem. so i hope that theres more series for the original yu gi oh characters how i miss them
Another good theory! Save the dying part, since you have a new video to confirm that Kaiba survived. New subscriber! Apart from that, Kaiba wanted to see Atem again, so if you think about it, it's another way of Kaiba moving on. Since we're going by the manga, Kaiba never got to even say goodbye to Atem if anything. So, this is basically him going through grief in a way that only he could. Love the consistency that you brought up for the manga, since not a lot of people know of it.
I don't think he is dead. Different dimensions exist in Yugioh. The human world, the monster world, etc but there are other ones as well such as the Shadow Realm and the monster "graveyard" so it could be argued that all Kaiba needed to do was build a machine to go to whatever dimension Atem's "afterlife" is in. There is also the fact that Atem was able to come back one last time from that realm using the puzzle and anchor himself to it till he split from Yugi again ad took it with him. So if Kaiba could make a machine that copied it's function, he could do the same thing. Teleport himself yo another demension and wear something anchor his spirit there. Also don't forget. Kaiba is a reincarnation of Atem's head priest so he technically already has a connection to Atem's afterlife anyway.
I don't believe that he died, though I liked your theory! I think you could've taken in consideration the connection Kaiba had with Atem through his past life as Priest Seto (isn't he even the cousin of the Pharao?) which I believe transcends time and space. You mustn't forget, that Kaiba is a character, who even if he doesn't admit it, is guided by his past life - the rivalry with the Pharao being a result by the Priests rivalry and friendship with him and the Blue Eyes being his favorite card, as it was his past lover's reincarnation, Kisara.
I'm sorry to break it down for you ppl. The reason why Kaiba is emanating "dark energy" similar to D-va is because BOTH duels (the one at the Faraoh's tomb) and the one at the tournament were recorded and DECODED for the new Dueling Hollo-system in the Crystal Network. If you did your homework you'll see the EXACT same pattern when Seto duels Ishizu and wins to later presence Joey vs Marik's Winged Dragon of Ra's effect (decoded by young Mokuba back then). With all those pieces together (inter-dimensional duel as stated by DVa) Seto arranged the puzzle back, because that was the only "lenghtwave" he didn't have recorded. BUT IT HAPPENED at the end of the tournament, that's why he said "FOR HIM". Seto specifically declares through the entire movie he now has the resources to "DO IT" (to record Yami's energy duel in the system). At the end, all that's going on with SETO is that HE IS proyected BACK IN TIME, instead of bringing ATEM to the present. If you want to see this full circle, go WATCH EACH ENDING of the YUGIOH series. Everyone discovers (always) a new "manifestation" of energy that they must gather to solve. This is the "ripple in time effect" SETO caused by dueling Yami.
IMO, Kaiba had this "suicidal" feel to him in the manga and anime series so i can see how this could hold as a sound theory, but of course, the implications of death in this anime are normally told in another way, such as "another world" or "shadow realm". then again, they make this aimed at kids, so i don't think that hes gonna die, but i see more of him being in a coma like state.
It's an interesting theory, but personally my theory is that Seto dimension traveled to a world where Atem was. Given how much of a genius he is shown to be (and this is especially shown in all the tech he's created in this movie alone) I wouldn't be shocked if he somehow figured out how to use Diva's cube to replicate the teleportation powers of the Prana. Not only that, but in the beginning of the movie he defeats Atem in a duel (albeit a hologram, but Seto was smart enough to have it programmed with all the possible strategies Atem could have used so points to him there). Then later on when he's dueling Yugi, he doesn't actually lose. In fact, it seems as though a great deal of time (I mean, it's a couple seconds, but in movie time it's significant for what is shown) is given to point out that A: Seto's LP did not reach zero, and B: he was smiling. Not a happy smile, but a "I'm still in this and I am already working on/have a strategy to come back and beat you" smile. Given that it's Kaiba we're talking about here, this wouldn't at all surprise me if he really would have made a come back had Diva not arrived. Given that he didn't lose either duel technically, I think it somewhat hints at a change in Seto's ability and his state of mind. He was never able to win in a duel before against Yugi or Atem because he didn't believe in the heart of the cards essentially. He was too arrogant and believed only in power. While he still believes in force, this movie seems to show that he has changed. He now fights with his heart, even if it isn't exactly love of the game or the protection of others that drives him. He's not just out to be the best in the world, he actually has a goal of redemption in mind and a will to make pretty much anything happen (he did summon Obelisk from nothing, after all). In addition to him not losing, he is also quick to join forces with Yugi to battle a greater evil in order to protect the world without a second thought. This was very different to the times he had to join with Yugi in the past. This time he really did put aside his own desires to do something... good. That alone shows some kind of change in how he behaves and what he believes in. It's like he's almost matured in a way when it comes to his own interests, if that makes any sense at all (it is two in the morning and I'm fading fast). Don't get me wrong, he's still the arrogant bastard he always was, but it's different this time around. Just the feel of the movie and the ending had me feeling like he's evolved in some kind of way since the series ended. This movie felt like it was all about Seto leading up to his own redemption, and his redemption would be facing Atem in a duel and winning. While we don't actually get to see that duel happen, I'd like to think that given all the nudges and hints in the movie that this really was his time to win because he believed so hard and worked for it. Also he's pretty much my favorite character and I'd be sad if he actually died for a card game. XD I'll just go back to living in my little bubble of optimism now. EDIT: Welp. Just saw your update video. So much for my ramblings. XD
pretty sure he's alive. yugioh gx confirms this. the manga might not follow the anime but let's be real....its seto fucking kaiba. maybe atem sends him back after their duel. you know with his magical powers. idk i think he lives
where did those manga images of DSOD come from? is there a manga of DM i dont have? i bought all of it i thought!!!! is there a new manga bit/short bit to go with the release of the movie?
[SPOILERS BELOW] Honestly, after seeing the movie myself, I agree that it's implied in the end: 1. He left Kaiba corp to Mokuba. We don't know if Mokuba, in the future, leaves his brother's name as founder of duelist academy in honor of his brother. It's up to assumptions. 2. As he walks towards the pharaoh, you see Kaiba "disintegrating." Yet, he walks up to the pharaoh, showing his determination to continue their duel. To preserve their rivalry. And to this, the pharaoh smiles in acknowledgement. Kaiba knows he may never win against the pharaoh, but that's what he wants. An eternal duel with his best (and who he considers most worthy, even if he won't admit it) rival and possibly only friend in his life. Going along with what you said about Gozaburo's mention about defeat = death, it makes sense. Kaiba's fine dying this way. It reminds me of HunterxHunter's end of the Chimera Ants arc. How Meruem and Komugi both passed away in an eternal match. That's my take on it anyway..
It really is left to the viewer's interpretation. Kazuki actually did an "epilogue" art piece for the film showing Kaiba alive and well, working with Yugi to produce this battling game of some sort, showing that he may have survived. Kazuki went out of his way to say it was only just one possible future though, to still let fans interpret the ending the way they want.
I mean, he showed up in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, which takes place 10 years after the conclusion of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series, so I don’t think so. I mean when he transported himself to the Egyptian Spirit World, I think he was somewhere between not fully living but not fully dead either.
@5:13 Well... Considering all the Dimensional collapsing going around, it's not too hard to believe in a Deus Ex Machina that Atem noticed the collapse and simply couldn't crossover until the collapse was bad enough that it opened a pathway from his world (the afterlife). He went through and by the very nature of the Puzzle acting as a conduit for the unbreakable bond he has with Yugi, Atem returns, with Mahad, and ends the Duel in a way that can only be counted as cheating otherwise. After the dual with Yugi, Dark Magician stayed in the present, while the spirit of Mahad, who embodies Dark Magician, become a Palladium Oracle to continue serving the Pharaoh in the afterlife, but still retain the form of Dark Magician while he stayed with Yugi. Again, all this is Deus Ex Machina, and as such a lot of disbelief to suspend.
tbh I can see that being the split in the timeline if he dies or not, he loses to atem he gets eaten away and if he wins he has enough time to go back before he fades away
I looked it up. Acording to the wikia page about Seto Kaiba. Seto used the 8th Mulenium Item to somehow appear at Atem's Throneroom to Duel him. So somehow this is another plot-hole since this means that Kaiba used that magic Aigami used (which was said to be gone after Atem appeard).
the timeline split at some point after gx. 1 reality has kaiba creating the dimensions leading to xyz summoning and such, and the other has yusei saving the world from ruin
Kiaba survived, because he was also in GX 10 years after the events of yugi and Atem’s final duel. When he went back in time as we saw to see the Pharaoh and duel him again we see it looks like he’s disintegrating but because of Kiabas technology in the movie he was able to resist the Plana and it’s ability to erase people. I think it was with this that he was able to avoid death in the afterlife from eating away at him and kept him alive. I think Kiaba and Atem had their reunion duel and he won and then like in Acengers End Game as soon as he was done he was pulled back into his pod and back to the world of the living so I think he experienced a type of Astro projection or out of body experience because he was going so fast it must have made him black out and cause his soul to separate from him body and temporarily enter the afterlife though I can’t say how. Maybe Kiaba created a black hole of his own with the energy used in dueling and that opened the gate maybe for a period of time and like Yugi and Pegasis in their first duel on a 15 min video tape Kiaba and Yugi had a time limit on their duel which was plenty of time since so much power was used to open that black hole or the door to the afterlife then once it was done and over Kiaba used his technology to pull himself back to life and the present.
Hes not dead because the thing is atem didnt go to the afterlife he entered a new dimension in which he had full control over thats why everyone he loved was there and it appeared as it did in ancient times. Kaiba was already on to this and aware of other dimensions, thats why he used his new duel tech to keep his body from being shreaded at the beginning of the film. I think he tapped into the cubes power by means of technology to access Atems dimension. I really wish they would bridge this to 5Ds, GX, and Arc V since arcV actually revisited the other settings for prior shows and kept most of the characters in tact.
In my opinion, if he gets back from the Afterlife, it's because he loses again to Atem, who declares that his penalty is to LIVE, and learn to live with defeat. "Come see me again when your natural lifespan is over. We'll have all the time in the cosmos to duke it out again. I'm sure you'll have tricks to show me."
He didn't die. He build a machine to travel Pharaon's dimension ,Mokuba was worried about him 'cause it was just a prototype, so he said "Please back safe", and then we see Kaiba with the machine's controls in his body facing the Pharaon; so, Kaiba didnt die
Whether Kaiba won or lost I'm Atem would be happy to send him back since he has his full power now after he tells him what he and the others have been up too.
Kaiba doesn't die. Because later after the critics there is a scene where kaiba and Yugi are in space playing a new type of game Yugi created. It may not be in the movie but I did see a photo and read it as well. Just don't see how h could have died and years later be creating games with Yugi.
If you think about it, Arc V is all about dimension hopping so I think kiaba invented the way to make this happen FOR the arc V saga. Which means he must've had that planned ahead of time in case the pharaoh couldn't return to their world permanently. As Kaiba stated "you have your bond with him, I have mine."
I come back a year afterwards. Upon watching GX (dubbed) in the field trip arc. Grandpa says "Yugi left three years ago and never came back." Meaning Kaiba doesn't die. Btw: Kaiba meeta with Sartorious to lend him Kaibaland.
but the creator said that the movie is what happens after the manga not the anime. In other words this has nothing to do with the anime and this is not the anime’s ending. This movie is the ending to the manga. Also GX takes place in an alternative timeline which means it’s not cannon. Now let me explain how it’s not cannon: gx isn’t a sequel it’s a spin off. It doesn’t take place after duel monsters but is actually in its own separate alternative universe. So in one universe gx is cannon but in another alternative universe it isn’t
That's why a true Rival only makes you Stronger. Rivalry is a very useful thing in society rather than having fake friends. I want enimies like Kaiba. 🗿

SX7's He's Seto Kaiba, he probably just screwed the law of nature because he has money. *points at space elevator* too much of it or so it seems xD
Kiaba is the king of technology of course he can do all that
I can't agree or disagree with the theory until I watch DSOD but regardless great job! I like how you looked into Kaibas backstory and went that extra mile to backup your points. Really interesting theory and really well made video!
Thank You!
HELLLOOOOOOO
And welcome to yugioh every thing
Hello Yugioh Everything
Seto is the key to the rest of Yugioh. He starts duel academy and his researchers invent Momentum.
No, he doesn't die because he makes appearances in Yugioh GX, which takes place years later
lol Kaiba going through the G.R.I.E.F process makes me iffy
He cant be happy in life without atem, so he made sure in death he would besome say well kaiba didn't die he used the cube, but then if kaiba came back, he'd still have the cube and he'd be able to see atem whenever he wantedwhich is just wrong on so many levelsfor a whole movie that spends its time crying I miss atem, it just makes way more sense kaiba dies and using the cube, is able to see atem
movie follows the manga.
It takes some intense obsession to travel back in time just to challenge a dead man to a card game. 😂
I know right
I think that throughout this movie, I can confirm that Kaiba is gay for Atem and wants to see him again no matter what (even if it means killing himself) 😂
To everyone bringing up GX, the movie was a sequel to the original manga, not the Duel Monsters anime, which has a different timeline.
One thing I'd like to point out is that I highly believe Seto told Mokuba he's in charge. But what's not said in the movie is that it was most likely only while he was gone and meeting Atem
We need a sequel on how Kaiba came back from the dimension and how he came up with the idea of Kaibaman!
in the movie it shows kaiba walking into the dimension of pharaoh and it seems like kaiba challenging atem to win against all with atem. so i hope that theres more series for the original yu gi oh characters how i miss them
Another good theory!
Ghaleonh41 thank you, also Takahashi said possible story.
I never thought I would feel bad for Kaiba....now I do...
.....They still left us on a cliffhanger I really wanted to see that duel
It was an open ending
So are you telling me that there’s another sequel for this
the cube could transport someone anywhere, without killing you just like when Diva try to disappear Joey, But Joey came back.
This where the timeline splits for sure
The ending for this movie was great, but I wish it wasn't so open ended. We need a sequel to this!
Fair enough, an Coma state probably just as same as kaiba dying in dsod.
XD
pretty sure he's alive. yugioh gx confirms this. the manga might not follow the anime but let's be real....its seto fucking kaiba. maybe atem sends him back after their duel. you know with his magical powers. idk i think he lives
movie follows the manga, has no relation towards the anime.
where did those manga images of DSOD come from? is there a manga of DM i dont have? i bought all of it i thought!!!! is there a new manga bit/short bit to go with the release of the movie?
I disagree for one reason and one reason only
He appeared 5 years after the events of Yu-Gi-Oh! In Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and to my knowledge GX is Canon
that’s a spin off in an alternative fusion universe also I heard that in gx kaiba is just a hologram so ppl don’t know he is dead
[SPOILERS BELOW]
Honestly, after seeing the movie myself, I agree that it's implied in the end:
Manga connected not anime. Which is honestly confusion. They should just make anime version of the manga.
@5:13
Well...
While i can see this, i just cant see him abandoning his brother.
Kaiba actually used the Cube to enter the After life... I have absolutely no idea how THAT works, But Kaiba is not dead.
Or this is where the time line splits.
Question BYG, did you get the limited edition obelisk the tormentor card when you went to go see the dark side of dimensions?
Have you heard if there is going to be another movie
the timeline split at some point after gx. 1 reality has kaiba creating the dimensions leading to xyz summoning and such, and the other has yusei saving the world from ruin
the way i am is not because of my environment or outside forces,i chose my own path and made sure to defy what you described in the video
bro awesome vid man one of your best
Thank you dude.
"A man robbed of his enemy develops self-destructive tendencies. And I know all the symptoms..." - Major Zero, Metal Gear Solid 5
So will we find out somethin about the Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie at the Orlando event?
I'm guessing we will. Where just going to have to wait and see.
+BYG Aigami Are ya sure we'll get a new trailer for the movie?
I'm not sure, but since dan green and eric stuart are going to be there might as well. Bring a trailer there.
+BYG Aigami Will they advertise that there's gonna be a trailer in 2-3 days advance of the event?
I'm guessing they did that last time.
are there going to be any more films to let us know what happened after Kaiba's journey back to Atem's palace?
Wait if gx hasn't happens yet then how do you explain kaiba being shown in gx
The original takes place after the manga which is what the movie primarily is based on. The dub is set after the original anime so we have two answers
We all know if kaiba can hack into heaven he can hack his way out.
what about Kaiba's appearance in GX? im not the only one thinking " how could he be dead if he is there?" am i?
Greenstorm 1 word, manga
youre dumb
Sasuke Kuniski You're dumb
Probably put himself in stasis (like, putting himself a a near death state) to get to Atem with the help of that artifact he had.
So will we hear an movie trailer announcement soon?
we have
he was reborn after atem beat Diva . even if kiaba died briefly his existence could have sent a shockwave through time to change things.
Kaiba: Call Atem back!
Yugi: Hello? Pizza? Uhh, yes, pepperoni.
Kaiba: I flunked my college degree for this!?
I remember when he was in the training room and summoned Obelisk... He almost ended up in the hospital.
so how is he in GX ?
Hes not dead because the thing is atem didnt go to the afterlife he entered a new dimension in which he had full control over thats why everyone he loved was there and it appeared as it did in ancient times. Kaiba was already on to this and aware of other dimensions, thats why he used his new duel tech to keep his body from being shreaded at the beginning of the film. I think he tapped into the cubes power by means of technology to access Atems dimension.
I really wish they would bridge this to 5Ds, GX, and Arc V since arcV actually revisited the other settings for prior shows and kept most of the characters in tact.
Why do the subtitles keep saying tim?
udhsids they are generated
Honestly I can’t see Seto dying for the simple reason that he’s alive in GX
Is the movie really that old
Considering He said Duel dimensions system I think he just traveled to where yami is.
The events of GX happen 10 years after this movie. Kaiba was alive. He found a way to time travel back to the Pharaohs time.
He build a machine to travel Pharaon's dimension ,Mokuba was worried about him 'cause it was just a prototype, so he said "Please back safe", and then we see Kaiba with the machine's controls in his body facing the Pharaon; so, Kaiba didnt die
kaiba has a memorial in 5ds manga
He did I thought that pegasus was the one
pegasus died in the duel moonsters manga
monsters
I thought he time traveled but this makes more sense that way Atem would actually know how to play the card game
where did u watch this movie
didn't read the spoiler.
fk u
I don't think they might make another movie
Goku and Vegeta
Finally Kaibab believes that magic is real and learns how to use his power.
It was a Prototype afterall, it's a huge risk because if something is not tested, things go wrong.
Whether Kaiba won or lost I'm Atem would be happy to send him back since he has his full power now after he tells him what he and the others have been up too.
Well, you're right by saying dark yugi, but... why?...
He didn’t die. This was said to take place 6 months after the ceremonial duel. GX takes place years after that duel and yet we see Kaiba in GX
Kaiba doesn't die. Because later after the critics there is a scene where kaiba and Yugi are in space playing a new type of game Yugi created. It may not be in the movie but I did see a photo and read it as well. Just don't see how h could have died and years later be creating games with Yugi.
What is tg2?
what ? i didn't even entertained the idea that kaiba died . The man repelled supernatural magic with his technology for god's sake , he is IMMORTAL .
He is not dead. He just found a way to travel to Atem's kingdom in order to fight him. He will come back and then he will open the duel academy.
No! He had to start Duel Academy!
Well if he died, then the GX episode where he duels Jaden as Kaiba man makes sense.
So did he win?
If you think about it, Arc V is all about dimension hopping so I think kiaba invented the way to make this happen FOR the arc V saga. Which means he must've had that planned ahead of time in case the pharaoh couldn't return to their world permanently. As Kaiba stated "you have your bond with him, I have mine."
Isn't GX set about 10 years after DM tho? So if that movie is 1 year after DM how is that possible cause Seto was obviously alive in GX.
D Petrova this movie follows the manga. So gx in Kaiba doesn't exist in this movies canocity.
I come back a year afterwards.
Upon watching GX (dubbed) in the field trip arc.
Grandpa says "Yugi left three years ago and never came back."
Meaning Kaiba doesn't die.
Tell me plaza we have in the future dark side 2????
I always thought that kaiba just time travelled to atem's time
I'm wondering, do you think Yugi and Kaiba could be cousins in modern times like Priest Seto and Atem were?
No, I dont think so.
Just wondering. It's a headcanon of mine. Might make a video explaining why one day.
go for it. ;)
That's why a true Rival only makes you Stronger. Rivalry is a very useful thing in society rather than having fake friends.
I want enimies like Kaiba. 🗿
Actually he didn't die who said that he died he is alive in the afterlife he has his machine to return but the movie didn't have part two
