So true. It has a sort of strangely romantic feeling due it being this otherworldly embodiment. Two separate people within on body and the splitting and learning of each other as separate people at the end. We see Yugi feel empty without him there at the end. It’s heartbreaking but it has to be that way. Only one can hope they’ll reunite in the afterlife. Either way a heartwarming story that shows how people need each other

Tea's like "he's already dead!" And Yami sprints over to Weevil's soul-less corpse and proceeds to plead with him to tell him where his Aibou is. Yami /loses/ his chill. Ellie Kunitz-Levy I politely disagree. The reason why Atem broke down so hard was because of his guilt, which Yuugi also suffered from when he believed that Atem was a part of him back in Duelist Kingdom, where he broke down and refused to go and save his grandfather's soul because he was so paralyzed with guilt and fear. Meanwhile, in Memory World, Atem was forcefully separated from Yuugi with no idea where he was or how or why, but he got his shit together and took on a majority of the arc by himself, only seeing Yuugi twice throughout it. Even when Yuugi was taken away a second time, he still got through it. Atem isn't completely dependant on Yuugi, he just went through agonizing guilt in season four. When he isn't beating himself up over getting someone he deeply cares about's soul stolen, he's fine.

I have always believed that the transformation was just for us the viewers to tell who is in control at a given moment. But in universe I think the characters don’t see this transformation. Except for the individuals that have one of the millennium items. For example Maximillion Pegasus acknowledges Yami when he comes out. The only reason he can see the pharaoh is because he has he millennium eye. Now you are probably wondering well when yugi transfers control to Yami what do normal people see? Well all they still see yugi. His hight, clothing, hair stay the same. The only thing they can see is that Yugi’s demeanor changes. He becomes more confident, voice gets deeper, and more sure of himself rather than being that reserved unsure of himself kid.
@@PulseBladeenjoyer the only hole in that theory is in episode 1, when he transforms, Kaiba reacts to it. Hes visibly and audibly shocked. I guess you can say it happens because he's the reincarnation of Seto but
I mean would you believe it if someone transformed in front of you but basically looked the same. It probably messes with the characters heads when they look at Yugi cause they know somethings up
Remember he was using magic. The ancient Egyptian magic was also about illusions like the Shadow Realm. In reality, I believe the magic was designed to protect Yugi. Everyone else could not tell the difference with the magic but they could sense that Yugi becomes different when he duels.
Honestly yugi is the real king of games everyone getting hyped because atem is so confident and has strong personality but honestly when yugi try he's a friken beast. Yugi isn't no wimp he's a real one. He proved that atem wasn't the person doing all the shit.
Agreed. Yugi has always been a gaming genius in his own right. The only things he was lacking were confidence, assertiveness, and authority, which are the things he learned from Atem.
So true and even Atem knew that and has admitted that Yugi is unique. Atem was a protector and cause of that protective quality people assumed he was the real one. We have seen multiple times in the series Yugi come through and give ideas to help Atem. When Atem was battling Marik in the shadow game, he could not fully concentrate cause Yugi was separated from him. They balance each other.
Hi rant alert: I personally see what kind of relationship people have based on how they act around each other, how much they connect to each other, etc. And i have scanned over the episodes repeatedly trying to figure out the relationship between these two. It seems like a relationship to me and here's why: first off, they touch each other in oddly intimate ways even in scenarios where that particular action wasn't required. Wether it be the hand holding that has been the source of many a meme, or the times when they've held each other longer than was needed. Secondly, they comfort each other when the other is sad. Like after the virtual world arc with the continuation of battle city, and before yugi's duel with kiaba at the duel tower, joey was put in a coma after his duel with marik and both yugi and yami were both very upset. Where as yugi seemed to be deeply grieved, yami acted a mix of guilty, anger, and sadness. In the hallway in a scene between the two of them yugi sees that yami is visibly angry and sad and raises his hand as if to put it on yami's shoulder in a comforting gesture. Next is the Doma arc. Yami's behavior that followed yugi's soul being stolen was very...um..dramatic to say the least. He repeatedly screamed yugi's name at the sky, beat himself up for what happended, and began his quest for yugi's soul witch led to a train ride in where he ignores teas attempts to comfort him to grieve for yugi, goes into a seperate train car, and saying "i've lost him forever" i've never seen him lamenting for any of his other friends this way. Later in the valley of souls he dueled yugi, and after yami won, yugi collapsed from the blow. Yami takes him into his arms and in a brief conversation (in which yugi basically does the equivalent of holding hands) yugi gives yami encouragement before disappearing, stating "i'm always with you" and "you acted like a true hero". (I'm going with the english version) (somewhat). And then yami yells at the sky "i'll save you no matter what it takes". Before this, on the train again, he fought with wevil underwood, who pretended to rip yugi's soul. Yami basically killed wevil and then proceeded to ask his corpse where yugi was. And in the duel with dartz, yami wouldn't attack for a while because yugi's soul was placed into a mirror knight (along with a few others). Think about that: if kiaba hadn't have been there, yami might have sacrificed humanity for yugi's safety (and those other people) but mainly yugi. In a battle city episode, the past is present, yugi and yami talk and eventually yugi says "but what if I...fail again?" "How do i know i won't lose you?" And in the japanese version, its about yami's memories, and basically yami says he wants to stay with yugi forever. Lastly, in season 5, when yami goes to the memory world, he thinks often of yugi, even saying he would do anything to protect him (in the english version) and how the gate in front of the pharaoh's palace only opens after yami(atem) calls for yugi, and let's not forget when, before bakura reversed time the reason yami got his energy back in the first place was because it was basically stated that( in the manga and anime) the precence of his partner revitalized his energy. Also in the movie dark side of dimensions, yugi says while thinking about yami, "I just...wish i had one more chance to let him know what he ment to me". and yes, i am a puzzleshipper. It makes more sense than any other pairing on that show in my opinion, Although i have a personal theory that the reason no relationships were ever confirmed nor denied was because they wanted to leave that up to us to interpret as we see fit. And the same goes for the relationship between yugi and yami. It was just enough to be platonic, romantic, or whatever. And i think it's this way so that the fans can decide for themselves. This is just how i see it. Thx for listening btw
@XAVIER RIVERA and also in this moment he was using yugis memories I don't think he gave a fuck about anzu to be fair but yugi let him hang out with her becsuee she liked him that's all
@@J3rs3y_G1rl She watched over Yugi when Yami Yugi couldn't intervene in the episode 15. And her relation with Yugi was very cute, we aren't going to lie to each other. Furthermore, we see a few scenes where Anzu and Yugi don't dare reveal their romantic feelings, where they say to themselves that they would like to do so or even scenes where they look jealous when they believe that one of the two is in love with a other (as in the episode 13 when Yugi thought Anzu was in love with the mysterious person who saved her, without knowing that was his other self and own protector. And in the episode 15, Anzu is clearly jealous when she see the psychopath girl circling around him constantly and, again, watched over him when Yami couldn't intervene). Not counting their strong relation in Duel Monsters. The relation between Anzu and Yugi was very strong in Duel Monsters. Also, she hugged Yugi 2 times in the show (season 3 episode 6, and season 4 episode 38). She is almost more shy with Atem. Furthermore, she was jealous when she saw Rebecca hugging Yugi. And also, it was thanks to Anzu that Yugi was able to enter the castle to save his grandfather when he was traumatized by Yami's actions. She fighted Mai for Yugi. And Anzu cares about all her friends. She is moved everytime where Jonouchi or other is hurt.
That was such a cool detail, imo. It was one of the most obvious hints that the poor guy hadn't the slightest idea that he was his own separate person. Imagine how painful and confusing it must have been for him to realign his views later, to admit that he had borrowed Yugi's feelings, memories, and relationships because he didn't have his own. But going through that initial pain is what allowed him to develop his own relationships with Yugi's friends later.
The two have a complex relationship that evolves throughout the course of yugioh. At the beginning of the series, Atem is a mysterious and powerful entity that resides within the Millennium Puzzle. Yugi on the contrary is a shy and timid high school student who manages to solve the puzzle and becomes the host of Atem's spirit. Initially, Atem acts as a guide and mentor to Yugi, helping him navigate the world of the Shadow Games and teaching him valuable lessons about friendship and trust. As the series goes on, Atem's role becomes more complex, and his relationship with Yugi becomes deeper and more meaningful. Throughout the series, they share a bond that transcends mere friendship. Atem's presence within the Millennium Puzzle serves as a constant reminder of the importance of the past, and his guidance helps Yugi grow into a more confident and capable individual. In turn, Yugi's unwavering loyalty and unwavering trust in Atem help the pharaoh overcome his own doubts and fears. Despite the deep bond that they share, Atem and Yugi's relationship is not without its conflicts. Atem's struggle to come to terms with his own identity and destiny puts a strain on their friendship at times, and the two occasionally find themselves at odds with one another. Ultimately, however, Atem and Yugi's relationship is defined by their mutual respect, trust, and love for one another. As the series comes to an end, Atem sacrifices himself to save Yugi and his friends, demonstrating the depth of his love and commitment to his host. Not sure if leaving this comment on a 6 yr old video contributes to anything but oh well, i wanted to share my perspective on their very unique and strong relationship.
Well... you'vr talked about this before, and as it has been said in the past, atem (plot wise) is just half of the soul that existed in this world who sealed himself to contain zorc, yugi in the other hand is that other half that "went to the afterlife" and reincarnated, imagine your personality being split in 2, The "YOU" that you are right now is the whole pack. and thats what atem and yugi are, 2 incomplete that complement each other to be independent for themselves
I think brotherly sums it up nicely as you guys said. I'm not sure I would say yugi surpassed atem though in the duel, more so he became capable there. firstly it was one duel, secondly yugi knew atems deck, what cards he would use etc. considering it seemed atem probably did most of the deck building and had cards in that duesl we'd basically all seen before vs. yugi's that were new and yami had to guess a lot more on the deck build putting him at a disadvantage. Next take into account whats on the line here, atem moving on to where he feels he belongs, is he really going to lose there if he can help it, and running with the teacher role don't teachers gradually push their students? also atem has won a lot more duels on his own than yugi that were high stakes, waking the dragons arc, so he's shown that independence.for this reason I feel they are basically the equals of 2 generations as opposed to yugi surpassing atem. tbh part of me is convinced atem had no intention of winning the final duel to begin with unless yugi really flopped but rather used it as his final lesson to push yugi and snow him his own potential before allowing him to win. so basically making his final lesson brother to brother more important than the victory. great vid from the dynamic duo
Exactly. I personally would've preferred the Ceremonial Duel to end in a tie. It would have shown that Yugi had grown strong enough to stand on equal terms with Atem, while still respect Atem's legacy as King of Games.
Yugi DID surpass Atem. That is the ONLY reason Atem was able to be set free. That was the point of the ceremonial duel. It was to find a successor that had what it took to free Atem. Yugi had to surpass him in order to win and free him.
I’m so confused how do they completely separate that yugi can see atem like in the final battle they completely separated are they connected in the same body or two completely different people physically aswell
@@lacrimosaknight No he's not. He is NOT the reincarnation. He is a separate soul. A descendant through his grandfather. His grandfather was the reincarnation of Shimon. I also wager they are tied to the Pharoah via Shimon's bloodline. No one ever talks about the possibility that Shimon may very well be another blood relative of Atem.
i have a theory about who is atem : i think atem is yugi from the future , in the time when yugi didn't have atem to help him at dueling and getting friends , everyone gets sealed by the oricalchos seal (sorry i forgot how it was pronounced) and yugi is the only one left alive , so he planned to time travel to help himself , but he ended in the wrong time , the time of ancient egypt era , and accidently , bakura follows him ,but both of them lost their memories , to live their roles as the pharaoh and the thief , yugi used to millinium puzzle to seal zorc and get himself in the puzzle to time travel (spend the years until that time yugi find the puzzle) and boom ! here we have atem and zorc/bakura
Yugi is NOT a duplicate of Atem. They purposely hid Yugi's eyes for the sake of bullshit mystery. DSoD had an official art of Yugi as an adult testing a game he built with Kaiba in the future. He still very much looks like himself. So knock it off with the bullshit that he "becomes" Atem. The whole damn point of the separation was to show Yugi is himself and only himself.
Technically they are cause Yugi is his reincarnation but also the other part of his soul and his soulmate. Atem clinched to darkness when he was a pharoah, he can harness dark powers and it makes him dark. Yugi counterbalances him and Atem is very obedient to Yugi. The Atem we have seen has been the Atem who changed through Yugi's influence. When Yugi is not around then Atem can become dark.
In reality, I think they are overdue for a new spinoff. It would be interesting to see Yugi get called to Atem's world. I also believe Yugi is capable of ancient magic, I would not mind seeing him become a real magician or mage. Yugi showed magical tendencies when he was with Atem, he is very savant in gaming and critical thinking. He also knows how to control the darkness within people. He represents lightness and healing, he healed a lot of people in his journey.
I personally believe that Yugi is Atem's reincarnation, but his soul was fragmented along with Atem's memories , inside the millennium puzzle unable to move on through the reincarnation cycle therefore stuck in the past lifetime/millennium puzzle. When Atem returned to the afterlife at the end of the series his soul was finally free to go through the transitional stage/phase and be reborn eventually, hence why Yugi exist in the first place, because it was always something that was meant to happen and was going to happen, you can almost call it like a time loop, his future self was always meant to help his past self . We can also take into consideration the concept of reincarnation in ancient Egypt which fits perfectly for Yugi and Atem. Did it make sense?
Yugi is his reincarnation but also the other part of his soul and his soulmate. Atem clinched to darkness when he was a pharaoh, he can harness dark powers and it makes him dark. Yugi counterbalances him and Atem is very obedient to Yugi. Yugi represents light and hope. That is why his soul room showed innocence, he balances out the darkness. Yugi is also capable of ancient magic like his counterpart but Yugi is more of a healer. Yugi knows how to help Atem the way Atem helps bring out Yugi's confidence. The Atem we have seen has been the Atem who changed through Yugi's influence. When Yugi is not around then Atem can become dark. We have seen it many times that Yugi in reality brings out his humanity. Nobody else can do that for him except for Yugi. Atem has relationships with Yugi's friends but they are more acquaintances in his mind. Atem does not really like Kaiba but he respects him. Atem respects Yugi's friends cause they respect Yugi. Atem is Yugi's protector, brother, father and also his soulmate. Atem and Yugi's relationship is very unique.

They are soulmates cause they complete each other and also Yugi is Atem's fulfillment. Yugi represents light, and hope. Atem never had that when he grew up. His world dabbled with ancient dark magic and he had to cling to dark magic to control his kingdom. Yugi shows Atem lightness and also healing. That is why around Season 5, Atem started to feel more at peace with himself cause he found love/serenity through Yugi. That type of love is not romantic but spiritual love and peace.

@@PulseBladeenjoyer the only hole in that theory is in episode 1, when he transforms, Kaiba reacts to it. Hes visibly and audibly shocked. I guess you can say it happens because he's the reincarnation of Seto but
@@RenniganEagle very true.
Well said.
And for the conclusion: i think they are soulmates because soulmates can't truly be defined.
Oh yeah and i also forgot to add: in season 0, yami literally killed (of drove insane) people just for hurting yugi (or someone close to him)
@@XxEmpty_EscapexX693 Yami killed in the manga, but in the Season 0, he just drove insane bad people.
I agree with you on the all line, amazing analysis!
Atem/Yami and Yugi are just good friends and like brothers. Nothing romantic between them. They are just very close but it's all platonic.
Quick fact: In the Manga when the prisoner has a gun to Anzu's head Atem calls her a dear friend but in season 0 Atem says my precious Anzu
@XAVIER RIVERA and also in this moment he was using yugis memories I don't think he gave a fuck about anzu to be fair but yugi let him hang out with her becsuee she liked him that's all
To hell with Anzu. She didn't ever give a damn about Yugi. All she wanted was Atem.

Yami Yugi & Yugi Muto = One of the best friendship in an anime.❤❤💖💖❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well... you'vr talked about this before, and as it has been said in the past, atem (plot wise) is just half of the soul that existed in this world who sealed himself to contain zorc, yugi in the other hand is that other half that "went to the afterlife" and reincarnated, imagine your personality being split in 2, The "YOU" that you are right now is the whole pack. and thats what atem and yugi are, 2 incomplete that complement each other to be independent for themselves
what are you talking about yugi being atem's other soul and that was reincarnated?
Where's your source.
crystalbreaker947 yeah I do agree with Garry how do you know that
I think brotherly sums it up nicely as you guys said.
*I meant was atem really seeking the win when he sought the afterlife when I was talking towards the beginning
@@ameyukikaze True! I always created a scenario with that in mind.
I’m so confused how do they completely separate that yugi can see atem like in the final battle they completely separated are they connected in the same body or two completely different people physically aswell
Is yugi supposed to be a descendant of atem that’s something I’ve always wondered about
@@lacrimosaknight No he's not.
I’m a puzzleshipper and blindshipper, these guys were just meant for each other, lol.
I always saw them as Father and Son in terms of their relationship.
i have a theory about who is atem : i think atem is yugi from the future , in the time when yugi didn't have atem to help him at dueling and getting friends , everyone gets sealed by the oricalchos seal (sorry i forgot how it was pronounced) and yugi is the only one left alive , so he planned to time travel to help himself , but he ended in the wrong time , the time of ancient egypt era , and accidently , bakura follows him ,but both of them lost their memories , to live their roles as the pharaoh and the thief , yugi used to millinium puzzle to seal zorc and get himself in the puzzle to time travel (spend the years until that time yugi find the puzzle) and boom ! here we have atem and zorc/bakura
Nice theory. But Atem is The Pharoah
Yugi were confirmed as the modern version of Pharaoh Atem.
I’m still so confused on why they look exactly the same & how yami got his body & why nobody says anything when he changes
They are both the same person the difference is that they come from different times
Atem is Yugi's shadow archetype
Will you be talking about other Yu-Gi-Oh Protagonist relationships? Like Jaden and Yubel?
Of-course, this is just the start to this new series we plan on doing.
Cool glad to hear! And thanks for replying.

Yugi is basically demon possessed by an ancient spirit(ghost) that happens to be a pharaoh using his body to still duel monsters in the physical realm
He isn't a demon.

@@dodgecityrecords4685 Looooooool Yugi did take too long to figure out he had another personality inside of him.
@@GUURL101 for reals tho
Yugi is NOT a duplicate of Atem. They purposely hid Yugi's eyes for the sake of bullshit mystery. DSoD had an official art of Yugi as an adult testing a game he built with Kaiba in the future. He still very much looks like himself. So knock it off with the bullshit that he "becomes" Atem. The whole damn point of the separation was to show Yugi is himself and only himself.
Season 0 was amazing
Agreed !
You’re tellling me they aren’t the same person
Did it make sense?
broMANCE
I think they are Best Friends
Nicely phrased analysis.
We've been through so much.
Nice video
Thank You Man.

Yugi Marik and Bakura, they are Jojo references
I feel like Atem and Yugi are just good friends and like brothers. I hate puzzleshipping. They just care a lot about each other but they aren't in a romantic relationship. It's just a brotherly and friendship bond.
