Kaiba was hilarious throughout the movie, and in that water bottle scene Kaiba had the best line. "I spent so much time creating his deck, strategies, and even perfectly quaffed hair"
Kaiba was unusually more funnier in this movie. And I loved it. My favorite scene was where Kaiba was doing his virtual reality with Atem and how he talks about how he was perfecting it. "I went through a great deal of trouble recreating his deck, strategies and even his perfectly quaffed hair, in fact that's the part that took the longest." Others: "Fire whoever designed this bottle, Kaiba corp products shouldn't bend this easily." "For far too long we've been forced to live in just this reality. It's tedious, poorly designed and pathetically constructed if the one responsible was in my employ I'd have him fired." "You really hate dragons do you?" "Shut up you fanboys." "You lie." "Hate to say I told you so but I told you so."
one of the best scenes in the movie that had everyone laughing. kaiba : you set me up. computer pharaoh : ha of course. kaiba : but I knew that you would set me up.
Pegasus was trying to bring back his wife using his powers and Kaibas Projection Tech, to see her again season 1 i believe episode 38. his power and tech doesnt make any sense;
I don't think Kiaba went back in time at the end, I think he found a way to reach the afterlife. You can kind of tell by the way Atem smiles when he sees him, as if seeing an old friend. This is why the ending of this movie reminds me of Titanic. I swear it's like two lovers being reunited after death for a happily ever after. The lengths Kiaba goes through just to see him again.... Kiaba: Not even the border between life and death can keep us apart, my lov... uh.. my nemesis!
Yeah I do agree with you alot and theres alot of rumors that in reality Seto Kaiba loves Atem ever since ancient times, nobody knows this but heard that Atem is actually based on a female pharaoh in REAL life and actually had a love romantic relationship with her High Priest that is similar to Priest Seto and they both had a little girl together and obviously the high priest became pharaoh when he actually married the female pharaoh!!! Yes they were both cousins like in the series!!!
Regarding the ending and how Kaiba got to the pharaoh's palace: I think the plot point was that he used the cube AND his technology to travel to the DIMENSION of the afterlife; I think this was the whole point of the movie - establishing places like the Duel mosnter's world just as other dimensions and IF you have a combination of the dimension-travelling cube plus Kaiba's genius, you get free dimension travel.
thats what i saw too im surprised more people haven't seen that too im mostly wondering about him with with dimensional dust around him like hes disintegrating i know nothing will come of it but as a fan were gonna wonder
Yugioh Everything yeah the obelisk scene got me pumped!! I hear they are actually talking about building that space station in Japan! Not the kaiba one but something like it LOL
Bianca Stephanie I liked it, but there was a little too much going on during the duels, made it hard to keep up. But I felt like atem beating diva without any real explanation was the weakest point of the movie
It was actually explained in the subbed version of the film that the Millennium Puzzle wasn't the only thing they found in the tomb, hinting that Kaiba found the other god cards as well.
The movie is actually meant to be after the manga, NOT after the anime. One of the driving points of the movie is that Kaiba didn't get any closure or get to say goodbye to Atem, and that because in the manga he wasn't present for the ceremonial duel.
I consider this right before GX but only a few years after the anime where Kaiba corp is creating the VR tech we see in Zexal and future series however the tech was introduced likely between 5Ds and Zexel.
The other thing that the dub changed was Kaiba's motive for wanting to duel Yugi. In the original, he was looking for closure due to his clashing viewpoints with Atem still being unresolved (Going with Takahashi's theme that a duel is two people's hearts speaking to one another) While in the dub, it's just more: "Yugi beat me in a Children's Card Game and I want revenge!" even though Kaiba in the original Battle City arc made it clear he's not looking for revenge.
But Kaiba did say something like "oh so this is where they dueled" when talking about the tomb. So i think the movie does follow the manga. Hence the tomb not being destroyed
Except the Tomb wasn't destroyed in the anime either. The Millenium stone collapsed just as it did in the Manga. Also Duke is working at a diner now... :P Good that's what he gets for sucking at being a game designer.
Saw the movie today and Imo, best Yu-gi-oh! movie ever! Unlike the Pyramid of Light and Bonds Beyond Time movies, DSoD had more character interactions, good humor, and they didn't drag it on with 1 long duel like the other movies. Some complain that the duels were too short, but I didn't mind them. My only complaint I had with the movie (besides how the Kaiba vs. Yugi duel ended) was when Tea left. It's just a little nitpick, but she should've hugged or kissed Yugi instead of high fiving everyone. After seeing a lot of hints of her and Yugi having feelings for each other in the anime (and some more in DSoD), they just shot it down by not having her confess and simply giving the gang a high five. Other than that, I'd give it a 9/10.
Its nice movie but I hate how they didn't mention Zorc or talk more about Shadi. and they didn't quite explain the ending. It was more visual than any thing.
It really does suck that this is the last time we'll see the DM cast, and that sucks, but at least we're seeing them. My absolute favorite series, GX, hasn't been seen in YEARS. Sadness....
It kinda baffles me that they completely skipped GX from getting a movie. Even 5D's had the Bonds Beyond time movie, despite being only about the first 3 protagonists.
Been about a decade since I watched Duel Monsters, so let me make some corrections! Shadi is confirmed to be a ghost in the anime, thanks to people in the comments for confirming that! Tea, Mokuba, Duke all have the same VAs (Should have looked that up before recording this) Regardless of those mistakes, I really hope you enjoy! :)
ah yes the pharaoh vs kaiba battle city semi finals the greatest duel ever played I'm happy you gave that a shout out. this movie was perfect for old school fans such as my self 10/10. also kaibas insanity has reached new levels in this movie he will stop at nothing to duel the pharaoh the final scene had me yelling NOOO SHOW ME THEIR FREAKIN DUELLLL!!!!!
Thank you for reviewing this. I really want to watch this movie so damn badly. And honestly, I love that you DON'T shit on the English dub. I always hated when people did that. I think all the voice actors are really good, even if the material they had to work around, was good. And holy shit NO CENSORSHIP on this movie? Hell yeah!
The card Atem played was revealed to be Palladium Oracle Mahad with an effect to Special Summon itself when drawn by revealing the card and gain double ATK when it battles a DARK monster, which the Cubic monsters were
I watched this movie again recently in honor of Takahashi dying one year ago. It’s so sad he is gone, and we will never see the original characters again. At least a few years before he died we got to see his final movie showing the fate of the characters from his manga.
For the whole movie I was asking myself how they made Tea look so damn attractive. Before this, I barely even considered her a character. Damn how things change....
What do you mean, will you please explain and how was Kaiba and Atem got sexualized when that was the same artwork as Bonds beyond time. Please actually tell me your reason
Uzumaki Atem I will admit a time was pretty sexualized especially in his Egyptian outfit I won't lie I was drooling a bit I got quite a bit of fanservice out of that. now Kaiba I don't about that
At 15:58 I have some corrections and clarifications to make. 1st Mokuba head butts Diva to knock him off. 2nd Shin is what they refer to Divas mentor as. Kaiba should have had LP drop to zero in first match against foe; however he activated his new duel system that gives you minor psychic abilities if you are strong willed enough. It allows players to realize their ideals in battle by altering games so you can go Zexal/realize heart of cards/altogether cheat legally. He manifested his drawn card with Counter gate to be Obelisk the tormentor allowing himself to add effects to the card that it did not originally possess.
Any else wish they had brought back Kisara in a modern incarnation? If you think about it, they could have. Yugi was the reincarnation of Atem, while Atem's soul was sealed away, so why not her, or Mahad the Dark Magician for that matter? She would have had some impact on Kaiba. Even Takahashi, the creator, said in an interview that he wanted to go more into Priest Seth and Kisara's relationship but due to time constraints and his editors rushing him, he had to cut it. Which really sucks because Kisara was one of the only people Priest Seth and modern Kaiba cared about.
Kisara has always been there. Her Ka and Ba were entwined, just like what happened to Mahad but without sacrificing herself to fuse them. She was already the BEWD herself her entire life, unlike Mahad who only became the Dark Magician after his sacrifice. They both chose to sacrifice themselves and they both live on through the monsters. Every time Kaiba summoned her she was there to protect him and sacrifice herself for him time and time again. I do wish she were acknowledged more, but I like what we got, too. Edit: She didn't need to be reincarnated. The Dark spirits were trapped in the items, they had unfinished business. Kisara and Mahad never stopped fulfilling their duties, they were at peace.
Saw the movie today and it was AWESOME! Though had a slight issue with your review. It wasn't a memory of the past Kaiba went to, he actually 'broke' into the afterlife to go and battle Atem there. Which I find was a foolish move on his part. I was thinking he might die in the afterlife and have his soul be stuck there while his body is sent back to the living. According to your Yu-Gi-Oh! timeline review if Atem didn't hold back a smidge and completely beat Kaiba in the afterlife then he 'would' die thus creating the Zexal/Arc V timeline. I had been joking in some OC cannon in my head that Kaiba might die in the afterlife if he wasn't careful. Then saw your timeline review where you stated Kaiba might've lost his company or died, and I was like 'oxo but I was kidding!' In any case the movie was great and I'm glad you got to see Takahashi, Dan and Eric to, you are so lucky for that. Awesome review and glad you enjoyed the movie as much as you did. -waves- Have fun and always believe in the heart of the cards.
Yugi and Seto teamed up for the first time in season 2 episode 21-24 (double duel) where they had to face Lumis and Umbra to save Joey, Téa, and Mokuba
Top 3 Jokes 1. Fire whoever made this, KC drinks shouldn't bend this easily. 2. You wanna fight me with Fruit? 3. That hilarious monologue where he addressed Domino City as what basically is God.
Adam The Gamer Nah it was by far "i went through a great deal of trouble recreating his deck, strategies and even his perfectly quafed hair, in fact that's the part that took the longest"
My favorite ones were: 1) You're fighting me with fruit! Don't mock me! 2) For far too long we've been forced to live in just this reality. It's tedious, poorly designed and pathetically constructed if the one responsible was in my employ I'd have him fired. 3) You really hate dragons, don't you? I can go on and on but meh
Well, super glad with how its seems its turned out. Great to hear they didn't censor it, and did keep in the ending scenes (was kinda worried when u didn't mention it until you did your recommendation bit). February 1st really can't come sooner. One q. How was the music? Did they have any of the original/ remixed dub music (ahem Obelisks theme) for nostalgias sake.. And of course I'm guessing the original DM theme played at some point!
Music was some OG and remixed dub, they used Kaibas hacking theme at one point, and at the end the DM theme was remixed during the credits! The score was great, I DONT THINK they used Obelisks theme when Kaiba summoned him.. But I might be wrong! Its tough to grasp everything in one watch! Looking forward to your review on it!
I'm in denial and think that they veeery slightly left the door open to do more with DM (even if it's not until the 20th anniversary or a comic or something) especially as I thought Kaiba went to the afterlife at the end of the movie I can kinda see that opening a can of worms of places to go if they wanted to continue. Idk how successful the movie was in Japan or the US/rest of the world but I think the success of the Duel Links app (over 20 MILLION downloads within 10 days of its worldwide launch) sends a message about how much people love this game and the original characters. I pretty much liked everything about the movie, the animation was stunning, the voice cast did an ace job , and dangit I need the theme song from the credits on my running playlist. I LOVED the Bakura flashback (whoever played young Bakura, I take my hat off to them) even if it tore my heart out and was so happy to see/hear Shadi again. A part of me kinda wishes this story were fleshed out over a 12 episode season or just longer in general (to allow more time for things like Joey in the other dimension/how he got out in time and Bakura talking to Aigami about the past/seeing how Bakura is after that talk since he's kinda just chucked around from then on) but I'll take this, it was lovely, it was nostalgic, they did a good job with introducing new characters and villains in a way that fit in with known characters and events from the series, and I look forward to owning it on DVD since I doubt I'll see it again while it's in theaters. I also want to see Joey get the new Duel Disk lol.
They definitely did! We know Yugioh 6 is starting in April, but maybe in a couple of years they will go back to the original story or follow the events of DSOD!
One can only dream that they do. Btw, loved your review, it'll fill the void of not being able to rewatch the movie until clips and gifs start making their way to the internet. I also didn't read the entire manga back in the day so looking up some manga facts cleared up my confusion over why Duke was working at a cafe when he had partnered up with Industrial Illusions to make Dungeon Dice Monsters a thing and should therefore be kinda loaded.
I'm pretty sure that's what Mokuba was worried about when he said 1. it hasn't been fully tested for safety and 2. he made Kaiba promise that he'd come back
LennydaMellon but I don't think so he just went to after life using the cube. its still a bad movie in my personal opinion. they didn't bother explaining how the spirit of the ring came back.. and wither its zorc or his fragment.
I watched the movie on Saturday with my family, we're huge YGO fans. We all really enjoyed it, it brings back a lot of memories to 11 years ago when YGO was ending. Totally an awesome movie, we had to pause to have discussions in between to just talk and react. That Kaiba sass, though, I was laughing so much from it all.
The only thing missing from this movie was when Kaiba summons Obelisk and the person he's dueling is all like "That's impossible the God cards don't exist anymore!!one!!!" Kaiba didn't say "Screw the rules I have money"
😍😆😆😆 omg i hope he said this all the time. He didnt but I'm often think, for example in the scene where Diva try to kill Seto and he used his technologie. One said its impossible to break Divas magic. Srew the rules Kaiba have money 😝
Or Kaiba finally admits he is the modern day incarnation of Pharaoh Seto by saying "I am the Pharaoh" You would get it if you saw a certain Arc in the Og
Actually, a pretty cool thing pointed out to me is that you can make a pretty solid guess what Kaiba had face down if you pay attention to his opening hand, what cards he plays, and what comes up on the screen during his turn. The facedown card was most likely Polymerization. Kaiba was bluffing.
I think Shadi was a ghost in the anime, because when everyone ran out of the collapsing tomb in the final episode, Shadi appeared and just stared in their direction and seemed to have a glow about him while also being somewhat transparent. That's the only time he looks like that though so they might have tried to make it SEEM like he was alive up until the end of the show where they indirectly "revealed" that he was actually a ghost the whole time.
Yeah he was a ghost all along. Maybe because of millenium ankh power his will/ghost can be seen by people and do what he hasnt done when he was alive. That ankh represent "monster reborn" tho. In the manga (pegasus arc) it reveals that yami bakura killed him.. Yami bakura mention it when he saw shadi's picture. But later Takahashi didnt tell why and how shadi killed by bakura. I am glad that the shadi's dead story later mention in this movie. Love how the creator did a consistency on his work.
He said he was killed by a Tomb Robber named Bakura... that's a pretty big hint and that's in the dub and the original JP version BTW. But what I love is Shadi's last name. Shadi Shen... no really.
I think Shadi is Shada from the past Didn't he say he was killed by Tomb keeper bakura? that what happened exactly. He stayed a ghost like Yami for thousands of years..
Its confusing. he said he was killed by a tomb keeper called bakura and that kid bakura was not a tomb keeper, So he probably meant thief king bakura.. Then again he could meant the thief king bakura who possessed the modern day child bakura. But then again it was zorc not thief bakura... Err so confusing most likely the movie agrees with your concept. Why wasn't it explained correctly its like shadi was put there in the movie for the sake of it. But I like the concept behind shadi raising those children..
Who Dr Tomb Keeper? is that the eng version that said so? because i dont remember shadi was killed by tomb keeper bakura. Bakura is not tomb keeper. Lets just stick with manga which actual and trustful source more than anime.. Yeah it said clearly in manga..Shadi was killed by "THE THIEF KING bakura"who possesed child bakura that time. But Kazuki Takahashi forgot to add backstory about that incident in the manga (only mention by Yami Bakura himself in pegasus arc). Later..he explain the tragedy in this movie.
Shadi is a ghost in anime. He describes himself as a spirit whose body was destroyed by Bakura. As for kaiba finding the pharaoh, I believe he uses the cube to travel to the dimension/afterlife to duel Atem. I was a little curious about how Zorc was still around because Yugi and Atem destroyed him completely. Atem even says Bakura will no longer be influenced by the Ring because of Zorc's defeat.
Even though they mention the final duel being a shadow game, they still directly state that the loser loses their life, meaning death wasn't censored this time around.
Yugioh Everything If you google "The Dark Side of Dimensions censorship," you will find articles stating 4k Media chose to remain faithful to the original.
I just saw this movie today. I really enjoyed it and liked the story. Though I did keep thinking of Yusei every time Tristan talked. (Cause ya know, same voice actor). I also agree on the humor, I really enjoyed the joked and stuff they had. Also every timed they did that special power thing in the duels (where they use their life energy/spirit or something to power the monsters, I cant quite remember the right terms) and they yelled to power the monsters, I kept thinking to myself "Stop trying to be Dragonball Z" XD
I only got one but I also got a Star Pack Binder... that was nice of them. Be honest though am I the only one who didn't understand what was going on with those Cubic Monsters?
When this movie ended I was sad as fuck. I just binge watched season 1-4, and after watching this movie it hit me that the original story is over, and the pharoah really wont come back. :'(
Tea Gardener doesn’t have a different voice actor. She was voiced by the same person who had always voiced her in the series Amy Birnbaum. Check the special features of the Blu-ray.
Takahashi did 0lan the movie to follow the ending of the manga and not the anime, that's why it makes much more sense if you have read the manga before. Also, I think Kaiba been able to summoned Obelisk has to do with him being a descendant of the priests and actually being the next pharaoh after Atem
Man, I loved this movie soooooo much. One thing that hit me in the feels was the graduation scenes, mainly because I graduated high school this year, the same year the movie came out so it was like a final hurrah kind of thing. Loved the review and I really hope more movies with the original gang or even references to them in future shows/movies.
You are correct. There was a video breaking down that duel between Yugi and Kaiba. The one facedown he had was Polymerization. Which was a bluff. So Yugi won. That smile Kaiba gave when DM attacked was excepting Yugi as the true King of Games. Diva just came and interrupted it.
28:00 Kaiba activates his Crush Card Virus Combo. Yugi is bamboozled that Kaiba still does that combo and promptly loses because he doesn't have a counter to the combo
You know, since they used the actual scans of the cards for this movie in English, they wouldn't be able to get away with not using the actual effect. You'd see it clearly printed on the card.
No idea if someone said it already, but if we are talking about the dub referencing the anime instead of the manga and that creating continuity issues....Bakura did not optain the ring directly. It was bought from some possessed merchant as a gift for him. At least that is what I am remembering happening in the anime.
BTW a quick term correction: a first turn defeat would be a FTK not OTK. Yugi did pull off a OTK because he defeated Aigami in ONE turn but just not the first one.
You're so right about the Coliseum Duel between Yugi and Kaiba. It is 100% the best duel in Yu-Gi-Oh! Especially the original Japanese version, with the music and everything.
Actually they did come up with Who won the duel. TGS anime did a very good video on it. Polymerization was his face down card but the power cut off right before It went to zero. The smile I think was finally accepting that Yugi was the True king of games. As far as the whole kaiba not disappearing I think it was because the millennium items are stronger than the cube. I also think his heritage and having relation to his ancestor who controlled the millennium rod he was protected from it. I don’t think it had to do with his technology.
Finally got around to watching this myself, and I absolutely loved it. There were a couple unexplained things that held it back for me--namely I was confused by some aspects of the Dimension Summon mechanic, which took me out of it a little, and as cool as seeing Obelisk was, I would have liked an actual explanation for how Kaiba was able to summon it. Anyway, minor issues aside, this movie was very nostalgic and just all around very well made. It did also keep me laughing throughout. 9/10, I think.
I really enjoyed the movie as well. I give it probably a 9/10 too. The only thing I was disappointed with is not hearing Atem speak because I loved his voice and the way he says things with conviction. But I guess I understand why they did not let him speak for dramatic effect but it would have been epic either way. I too felt so much nostalgia as I watched the movie and felt sadness at the end knowing that this would be the last time we may see the original characters again. It feels like after you watch an anime and you get really attached to the characters then it’s coming to an end. That’s how it is with this movie because we grew up with these characters (through the anime/manga) and got really attached to them. So seeing those final scenes especially was bittersweet.
There were a few things I didn't like: The concept of summoning any monster and choosing its ATK is interesting, but it would've been better if it was the effect of a Field card, and not...whatever the hell was the reason behind it. Kaiba summoning Obelisk would've made more sense if he retrieved it first. Wouldn't be that farfetched for him to dig up the Egyptian Gods and add them to his deck. Also would've been interesting if he retrieved the Millennium Staff since he believes in Magic and to some extent, knows he used to be a Priest who used the Staff. Also would've explained how Kaiba was able to endure Aigami's dark magic. And how he reached Atem at the end. ALSO, Seto was the Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt, so Kaiba channeling that power is not too extreme. Aigami's Deck. I have no idea what the hell is going on, people just keep losing life points left and right and there's bigger monsters constantly summoned and it was just hard to follow... What the hell was Kaiba's face down card?? I think it's assumed that Atem returned due to Yugi making a wish on the Puzzle after completing it, but it should've been made official. But, I guess it's a good thing that it could only be a one time thing because it was the Millennium Cube that managed to bring back the Pharaoh.
I'm wondering if Kaiba was immune to Diva's kill because of the fact that Kaiba can use a millennium item since he was a decedent of the original Millennium Rod holder? maybe.....or Diva's power is weak to the power of money :P
Thanks to finding your channel, I actually went to see this in theaters yesterday! Been finding a lot of nostalgia in watching the show again and finding my old cards.
Kaiba creeped me the F out, as he woulnt be one i'd entrust the world to, and he is basically god of the YGO world. i mean, watchdogs is nothing compared to Kaiba's possibilities.
Have you read Transcend Game? it is a 2 chapter manga special drawn by Takahashi for the movie, and it showed Kaiba almost reaching the afterlife(which they say would have killed him) but being saved by Kisara and Mokuba pulling him out of the machine he ws using. And I heard in the Japanese version that Kaiba promises Mokuba that he'll come back at the end.
I loved this movie. I liked that the duels were original and didn't summon the same monsters all the time or bring them back liked Yuya summoning odd eyes every duel on the first turn. And when Kaiba went to the past to duel Pharaoh Atem I was like WTFFFFFFFF. I must see this duel.
the Duel scene in this movie is crazy! I can't even keep up, like Yugi just summon 2 celtic guardian without explaining the effect. I love it! this is done by ZeXal's director so we can see a lot of ZeXal's awesome camera angle and they even have D-Gazer. haha, I really love this movie's Duel. it's also cool to see Yugi and Kaiba do the chant thing before summoning they're monsters like the series since 5d's. wish it has more Dueling scene, maybe like Joey vs. Aigami in the different dimension. But overall the story is really good.
Like i said multiple times concerning this movie, They should've put past Zarc in the new Yu-Gi-Oh! movie as an upcoming duelist, yugi watches him on a tv screen for a couple of seconds riding Odd Eyes, and the other three dragons are flying up above him. That would've been a cool cameo that ties DM with ARC V, seens how we never got any OG legacy characters
The anime was ambiguous about Shadis condition. I was always under the assumption of maybe alive but really most scenes make him out to either a ghost or very solitary in nature. Others did not react to Shadi enough for me to think he was not at least obsessed with Astral projection. I feel that Diva is clearly a descendant of Yusei because of hair and face. What do you think?
WOOOOOOOOW! Very nice review. When I saw the trailers I knew that this movie would be awesome & by listening the story from you I WAS RIGHT AFTER ALL. 😁 I have not seen the movie yet but I will still see it. I don't mind the spoilers because I was getting tired of waiting, but still I will watch it. ☺
You're always afraid with a sequel like this so long after the original show wrapped everything up so nicely, that you're going to get a "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," but thankfully this movie was exactly what it should be. Everyone sounded great and how they should, although Tea was a bit different and Mokuba got a haircut and a suit but didn't grow any taller. Yugi has apparently finally hit puberty and has a more adult voice (and he's also finally taller than Grandpa). Kaiba is exactly the same and provides most of the movie's humorous moments. "You really don't like dragons, do you?" "You attack me with fruit?" The story works, and Atem's eventual appearance is exactly what you hoped it would be. It would have been so easy to overdo it and ruin the conclusion of the series 10 years ago, but this movie didn't do that. Instead, you got the Pharaoh in all his glory but without compromising his destiny. Basically, I loved every minute of it. The only thing missing was a "Yugi-boy" from you-know-who.
I believe Seto Kaiba could've built duel academy in between Duel Monsters and DSD Here is my evidence: 1.) Gx starts with Jaden bumping into the Pharaoh. It's definitely the pharaoh because he appear taller than Jaden and he is voiced by Dan Green 2.) In the original Duel Monster original series young Kaiba makes lots of executive decisions. Kaibacorp; develops a duel monsters themed virtual reality game, constructs KiabaLand theme park, produces and manufactures duel disks, organizes a city wide duel tournament in a densely populated city, Builds a Blue Eyes Jet Plane 3.) I believe it's fair to assume that Kaiba could've created Duel Academy before the ending of DSD The flaw I see in my theory: When Jaden bumps into Yugi/the Pharaoh at the start of Gx, he isn't wearing the Millennium puzzle. Kaiba meets Sartorius in Gx
Sound pretty good but it’s definitely Yugi and not the pharaoh jaden bumps into because like you said no millennium puzzle and in the finale episodes of gx Yugi says I gave you card 3 years ago while watching you as your growth as duelist before he send him back in time to duel while he has Atem
It was great meeting you at the event, Dylan! (Met you by the Blue Eyes statue, introduced myself as Naoto!) It would've been nice to see the Ishtars or Mai in the movie like you said , not Pegasus though, cause since the movie is a sequel to the original manga, Pegasus was killed by Yami Bakura at the end of the Duelist Kingdom arc (which is a major plot point for the non-canon Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga). As for the Millennium Ring, Mahado explained in season 5 that the Ring naturally has evil intent within it, which he sensed (being the original holder of the Ring), which explains why Mani and Diva went full psycho. For Kaiba seeing Atem at the very end of the movie, I personally like to believe that he succeeded in reaching Atem in the afterlife by traveling through dimensions (as Atem welcomed Kaiba into his palace) rather than going back in time. There's also the dark possibility that the machine Kaiba was in exploded on him since Mokuba DID say they haven't tested it out yet, and Kaiba died and went to wherever Atem was LOL. Great video though, and keep it up, excited for the concept vid you mentioned you had in mind!
I butchered your name though so I apologize!! Hahah but you're welcome!! It was nice meeting you and enjoyed reading your thoughts on the movie! Completely forgot about Pegasus dying in the manga by the way lol
Yugioh Everything Lol, don't worry about it man, happens to everyone who meets me. Gonna throw it out there that I'd love to do a collab video one day discussing various topics from OSTs to different episode animation directors for each series (love to see a video one day pointing out animation quality!). Great meeting you too though!
Actually the Tombstone with the Millenium Items DID collapsed at the end of the Manga =) Also, Yugi and Kaiba DID team up before, which was against those two Guys on top of a building during battle City, where the loser would fall down to their death (Or shadow Realm, depending on DUB xD) and I think that battle also happened in the manga!
You actually saw the movie!😭 I'm so jealous! I read about the movie on Yugi Wiki and knew all this but I didn't see any info on the duels . I'm really looking forward to it though.
A fun little nod about Shadi is that I'm pretty sure in the anime he does say that it was the Spirit of the Millennium Ring that killed him. So the fact that they added that in and worked it into the story in a great way is just incredible.
The Shadi I believe was killed in the past and when Duelist Kingdom wrapped up. I am not sure how long that was when it happened but It was when the Millennium Ring was taken from Bakura's Father. A couple of years and I believe it when Yugi finished the Millennium Puzzle.
Wouldnt it be cool if Kaiba discovers or creates an item as ancient or a modern-day equivalent of Atem's millennium puzzle to tap into his Yami Kaiba perspective?
Dan 7 interestingly in 5 Ds there’s a bit of dialogue that refers to Joey Wheeler as a pro duelist... so we have a cannon confirmation that Joey did eventually achieve his goal
And you think I can't use the themes I talked about before well I can and here's why BECAUSE I GO THROUGH AND LIVE WITH THOSE THINGS ON MY BACK EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE. BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN HURT AND BULLIED FOR JUST BEING MYSELF. AND So THE DARKNESS IN THE MOVIES AS A WHOLE CHARACTER IS WHAT I DEAL WITH EVERYDAY. THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE. THE SELF DOUBT IN MY HEART. AND NOT HAVING THE COURAGE TO STAND UP AND BE WHO I TRULY AM INSIDE AND THAT IS A PERSON WHO JUST WANTS TO FIND A PLACE IN THIS GODFORSAKEN WORLD AND KNOW THAT I BELONG SOMEWHERE. So there that is why I can use those themes
I think in the manga Yugi(Atem) and Kaiba did team up in the domino city arc (can't remember the arc) when they both face off in a 2v2 situation where they stand on the rooftop I believed.
*SPOILERS* I really really miss Yugioh! It was amazing and I absolutely LOVED the movie, watching it was so exciting. I know there's some things that were off, for example as YE stated in the video, the tomb was still somewhat standing. But considering it did have some destruction, some fallen pillars here and there and cracks and whatsoever, I think it still worked. I think the movie did a great job, props to the voice actors, especially the new tea the new character, Deva. I loved seeing Yugi's personal style of clothing rather than just his school uniform and I especially loved the new artwork and just... everything was just great and absolutely stunning. I do hope the ending leads to another movie since there was another picture later drawn that showed Yugi making his new game and working with Kaiba, so I do hope for a second that shows leading to it. But either way, I believe this movie was just as fulfilling in the end as the anime was, even with its huge cliffhanger at the end with Kaiba going into the past, and again, even the pic allows some closure as is. Overall, I loved this movie and I hope for more yugioh to come and for more kids to join the fandom and learn about what I consider to be my childhood. FUN FACT: Yugioh's first air date was the same as the day as I was born, September 30th.
There’s one problem with this movie Bakura has literally so little lines I’m pretty sure the most he talked was when zork took over him and it’s really sad since bakura is my favourite
The Ishtar’s appear in the flashback of the Ceremonial Duel and Weevil and Rex appear in the KC Dome for a quick scene. Also we do see Slifer in the flashback of the Ceremonial Duel but obviously that’s not the same as Obelisks cameo. I’m so glad they gave Yami Bakura his own moment (not including his weird mutation with Aigami/Diva)
You said Kaiba time travelled at the end. I saw it as him going to the Spirit World, seeing as he when he passed on, he was reunited with his old friends. I would assume his personal afterlife would be in the shape of Ancient Egypt than anything else. The movie was all about Dimensions. Of course Kaiba would travel to a different dimension, and his technology is only facilitating his search but mostly his survival, seeing as you'd normally need to be dead to go the afterlife.
And this is a manga sequel in the original, anime sequel in the dub! Which is why Kaibas motives are SLIGHTLY different in the two variations of the movie!
nice review! Im seeing it next tuesday at my theater and Im so excited though one correction yugi and kaiba do team up though before darts during battle city when they play against the masked rare hunters
after watching the movie my thoughts are I really enjoyed it definitely the best yugioh movie so far and the english voice actors did a great job, I enjoyed a lot of the jokes my favourite being kaiba saying that atem's hair was the hardest thing to get correctly the only major problem I had with it was atem coming back at the end and finishing the duel I kind of wanted yugi finishing the duel instead finally showing that he's grown so much
Kaiba goes back using the cube. its sitting in that pod. personally I think it would have been awesome if in the last scene Atem at activated his diadhank. I agree, this was by far the best of the movies. Seeing Kaiba play Obelisk gave me goosebumps.
Kaiba was hilarious throughout the movie, and in that water bottle scene Kaiba had the best line.
"I spent so much time creating his deck, strategies, and even perfectly quaffed hair"
JakeGoesOnline lol i remember that. I'm so happy i got 2 obelisk for watching the movie in theatres
I didn't even get a card :(
Dew why?
And he was like "Actually that part was the hardest" or something like that :P
Got my ticket and nothing else happened.
Kaiba was unusually more funnier in this movie. And I loved it. My favorite scene was where Kaiba was doing his virtual reality with Atem and how he talks about how he was perfecting it.
"I went through a great deal of trouble recreating his deck, strategies and even his perfectly quaffed hair, in fact that's the part that took the longest."
Others:
"Fire whoever designed this bottle, Kaiba corp products shouldn't bend this easily."
"For far too long we've been forced to live in just this reality. It's tedious, poorly designed and pathetically constructed if the one responsible was in my employ I'd have him fired."
"You really hate dragons do you?"
"Shut up you fanboys."
"You lie."
"Hate to say I told you so but I told you so."
HAHAH Im so glad you wrote down all his lines, too funny xD
"YOU DARE DUEL ME WITH FRUIT!?"
Also when Diva showed up at the end when he was fused with the millenium ring
"Eww he's looked better"
@@YugiohEverything I've seen the movie and loved it!
"You really don't like dragons do you?" -Seto Kaiba 2017
126 996 lol
YOU DARE DUEL ME WITH FRUIT?!
one of the best scenes in the movie that had everyone laughing.
kaiba : you set me up.
computer pharaoh : ha of course.
kaiba : but I knew that you would set me up.
My favorite was He's looked better
runerdude141 lol, i love that line, kaiba had the better one liners than joey this time.
After graduating, Yugi went on to create Magic the Gathering
HAHAH best plot twist in history
Hahahaha! But what if it's cardfight vanguard
Toasted Fury but then he noticed it wasn't as close as good as Duel Monsters
Starpe lol
mtg is better than yu gi oh period. if he created anything. it would be trash like vanguard or force of will. something irrelevant
So Kaiba realised the hell out of Pegasus' dream of using KC tech to see a dead person again, huh.
Lol
Pegasus was trying to bring back his wife using his powers and Kaibas Projection Tech, to see her again season 1 i believe episode 38. his power and tech doesnt make any sense;
Yeah he used the cube
thats what i saw too im surprised more people haven't seen that too im mostly wondering about him with with dimensional dust around him like hes disintegrating i know nothing will come of it but as a fan were gonna wonder
THE MOVIE WAS AMAZING.
My favorite scene was the Hologram Atem scene Kaiba had a great monologue
Yes! That scene was great, I also loved that Obelisk scene
Yugioh Everything yeah the obelisk scene got me pumped!! I hear they are actually talking about building that space station in Japan! Not the kaiba one but something like it LOL
really? that stage needs to be for yugioh and whatever game Yugi is designing!
Bianca Stephanie I liked it, but there was a little too much going on during the duels, made it hard to keep up. But I felt like atem beating diva without any real explanation was the weakest point of the movie
Shadi was a ghost in the anime, he was the spirit that guarded the millennium items.
Thanks, its been a while since I watched DM (about a decade) so I'll pin a comment and correct myself! Appreciate it
@@YugiohEverything I loved DSOD, it was really well done!
@@YugiohEverything Amy Birmbaum had always voiced Tea in the 4kids dub, there wasn't another VA for her
Also, he has the Key as well as the Scale (and is mostly portrayed with the former in DSOD)
@@devontehuntley6274 Yes. I know that, I was referring to the 4Kids English version since I have never watched the Singapore dub
FACT: The reason Kaiba was able to summon Obelisk was actually mentioned in the abridged series, I believe its because "Screw the Rules, I have Money"
"it's cheating, DEAL WITH IT" counter exploded
Adam S Lmfao
It was actually explained in the subbed version of the film that the Millennium Puzzle wasn't the only thing they found in the tomb, hinting that Kaiba found the other god cards as well.
Adam S Screw the rules, I have a GOD
You say that as a joke but honestly Kaiba can probably print any card he wants so why couldn't he print obelisk
That Obelisk moment was insane!
Chris Ketchem that was the best scene in the anime
"Obelisk is no monster....he is a GOD!!!"
The movie is actually meant to be after the manga, NOT after the anime. One of the driving points of the movie is that Kaiba didn't get any closure or get to say goodbye to Atem, and that because in the manga he wasn't present for the ceremonial duel.
You are correct!
I consider this right before GX but only a few years after the anime where Kaiba corp is creating the VR tech we see in Zexal and future series however the tech was introduced likely between 5Ds and Zexel.
The other thing that the dub changed was Kaiba's motive for wanting to duel Yugi. In the original, he was looking for closure due to his clashing viewpoints with Atem still being unresolved (Going with Takahashi's theme that a duel is two people's hearts speaking to one another)
While in the dub, it's just more: "Yugi beat me in a Children's Card Game and I want revenge!" even though Kaiba in the original Battle City arc made it clear he's not looking for revenge.
But Kaiba did say something like "oh so this is where they dueled" when talking about the tomb. So i think the movie does follow the manga. Hence the tomb not being destroyed
That and we see Duke's father, who's only in the manga only
Except the Tomb wasn't destroyed in the anime either.
It was more visual than any thing.
where can you watch this movie
was there two shadis" one during ealist kingdom and this movie?
I also don't like how:
1) we didn't see Joey duel, we didn't see the red eyes or gilford
2) Yugi having proven being superior to Atem, needed his help
Samsapopin Tea dosen't like Yugi, she likes the Pharaoh, i think that is quite apparent since season 0.
It really does suck that this is the last time we'll see the DM cast, and that sucks, but at least we're seeing them. My absolute favorite series, GX, hasn't been seen in YEARS. Sadness....
Chase Ray GX!! THE SECOND BEST TO THE ORIGINAL!
Light Revaan Bro, your opinion. But at least GX actually ties in with DM. Judai by far out of all the main protags had the best development.
GX is trash.. jaden is an idiot and so is chazz
opinions are irrelevant
It kinda baffles me that they completely skipped GX from getting a movie. Even 5D's had the Bonds Beyond time movie, despite being only about the first 3 protagonists.
Been about a decade since I watched Duel Monsters, so let me make some corrections!
Shadi is confirmed to be a ghost in the anime, thanks to people in the comments for confirming that!
Tea, Mokuba, Duke all have the same VAs (Should have looked that up before recording this)
Regardless of those mistakes, I really hope you enjoy! :)
Yugioh Everything can you make a video about a gx movie , if you know something about that ?
4kids or someone invited him. He said it in a video a few weeks ago i believe.
ah yes the pharaoh vs kaiba battle city semi finals the greatest duel ever played I'm happy you gave that a shout out. this movie was perfect for old school fans such as my self 10/10. also kaibas insanity has reached new levels in this movie he will stop at nothing to duel the pharaoh the final scene had me yelling NOOO SHOW ME THEIR FREAKIN DUELLLL!!!!!
goldmetal110 ya i was gonna say, kaiba didnt go to the past, he actually was able to travel to the same realm that atem is in to duel him.
Yugioh Everything thank you was confused about shadi
Tea, Kaiba, and Atem all got hella sexualized.
Uzumaki Atem I will admit a time was pretty sexualized especially in his Egyptian outfit I won't lie I was drooling a bit I got quite a bit of fanservice out of that. now Kaiba I don't about that
Yeah Yugi kiba and atem was all jacked like they been in the gym the whole 9 years between the last episode of the season to this movie
they always were, really. it's more noticeable with this art style, though.
2 Words. Joey Chin.
Nobody does it like Joey
hebince44 Except Tristan.
I actually don't like it.
This movie is kinda both a squeal to both anime/manga
Mew2King's Marth but this movie is more directly sequel to manga version tbh
Absolutely!
Or he simply ceased to exist as he was shown fading. Welp i guess neither the afterlife or hell wanted kaiba. He is prob now in purgatory.
Yugi and Seto teamed up for the first time in season 2 episode 21-24 (double duel) where they had to face Lumis and Umbra to save Joey, Téa, and Mokuba
Thats right! Forgot about that

It was unusual that Kaiba had so many funny moments.
Don't you know? I'm a really funny guy.
Top 3 Jokes
My favorite ones were:
1) You're fighting me with fruit! Don't mock me!
2) For far too long we've been forced to live in just this reality. It's tedious, poorly designed and pathetically constructed if the one responsible was in my employ I'd have him fired.
3) You really hate dragons, don't you?
I can go on and on but meh
The actual quote was "Fire whoever designed this bottle, Kaiba corp products shouldn't bend this easily"
Anyone besides me wish this would ba a "Dragon ball: Battle of Gods" situation and revitalize interest to continue the series?
They copy off eachother this was just like battle of the gods i liked this one alot
Woow why didn't i think of that. What if Kaiba went to the after life to duel Atem and he died in the experiment.
I loved the movie, so much nostalgia goodness! I wish Atem had a few more lines tho.
The only thing missing from this movie was when Kaiba summons Obelisk and the person he's dueling is all like "That's impossible the God cards don't exist anymore!!one!!!"
Kaiba didn't say "Screw the rules I have money"
HAHA if they added that line somewhere, movie would have been a 10/10
😍😆😆😆 omg i hope he said this all the time. He didnt but I'm often think, for example in the scene where Diva try to kill Seto and he used his technologie. One said its impossible to break Divas magic.
Srew the rules Kaiba have money
😝
Or Kaiba finally admits he is the modern day incarnation of Pharaoh Seto by saying "I am the Pharaoh"
You would get it if you saw a certain Arc in the Og
Shadi Shen... no really.
I think Shadi is Shada from the past
Didn't he say he was killed by Tomb keeper bakura? that what happened exactly.
Very true! Glad there was really no censorship
Claire Firedragon what card did you get? They gave me 2 obelisk the tormentors lol
Daiyan Dewan I got the same. think every one did.
Just a tip. I think Diva's sister was telling Diva after the Yugi and Kaiba duel that the plana was the 8th Millenium Item
Man, I loved this movie soooooo much. One thing that hit me in the feels was the graduation scenes, mainly because I graduated high school this year, the same year the movie came out so it was like a final hurrah kind of thing. Loved the review and I really hope more movies with the original gang or even references to them in future shows/movies.
i thought kaibas lifepoints stop at 100 because the whole duel was interrupted ?
You are correct. There was a video breaking down that duel between Yugi and Kaiba. The one facedown he had was Polymerization. Which was a bluff. So Yugi won. That smile Kaiba gave when DM attacked was excepting Yugi as the true King of Games.
Diva just came and interrupted it.
28:00 Kaiba activates his Crush Card Virus Combo. Yugi is bamboozled that Kaiba still does that combo and promptly loses because he doesn't have a counter to the combo
Well actually maybe they would actually follow the TCG rules of crush card and could deal with it better
After Battle City, Joey duels yugi and wins. They made a pact to duel at the end for his Red-Eyes, even though the duel was never shown.
I am so watching this movie im realy gonna mis the original cast
You're so right about the Coliseum Duel between Yugi and Kaiba. It is 100% the best duel in Yu-Gi-Oh! Especially the original Japanese version, with the music and everything.
Yep! The last 10 minute re incredible!
Its kinda sad seeing the movies did terribly at box office.
There were a few things I didn't like:
The concept of summoning any monster and choosing its ATK is interesting, but it would've been better if it was the effect of a Field card, and not...whatever the hell was the reason behind it.
I'm wondering if Kaiba was immune to Diva's kill because of the fact that Kaiba can use a millennium item since he was a decedent of the original Millennium Rod holder? maybe.....or Diva's power is weak to the power of money :P
i really want to see yugioh 5ds movie lol
Same
-Raulc713 - 5ds movie?
GX movie will probably be next
I hope so
Thanks to finding your channel, I actually went to see this in theaters yesterday! Been finding a lot of nostalgia in watching the show again and finding my old cards.
Thats awesome!! I hope you enjoyed the movie!
Kaiba creeped me the F out, as he woulnt be one i'd entrust the world to, and he is basically god of the YGO world. i mean, watchdogs is nothing compared to Kaiba's possibilities.
yeah, that does have a LOT of implications...
He went to the after life. The cube is used to go to dimensions not travel through time.
Actually Marik’s in the movie for a split second in a flashback so...
Hes in this one too for 1 sec blink and you miss it
Joey's aim was to be a pro duelist when they were talking on the roof
I thought in season 1 it said bakura got his ring when his farther got the ring from a merchant in Egypt
"You really don't like dragons, do you?" "You attack me with fruit?"
The story works, and Atem's eventual appearance is exactly what you hoped it would be.
I believe Seto Kaiba could've built duel academy in between Duel Monsters and DSD
Here is my evidence:
1.) Gx starts with Jaden bumping into the Pharaoh. It's definitely the pharaoh because he appear taller than Jaden and he is voiced by Dan Green
2.) In the original Duel Monster original series young Kaiba makes lots of executive decisions. Kaibacorp; develops a duel monsters themed virtual reality game, constructs KiabaLand theme park, produces and manufactures duel disks, organizes a city wide duel tournament in a densely populated city, Builds a Blue Eyes Jet Plane
3.) I believe it's fair to assume that Kaiba could've created Duel Academy before the ending of DSD
The flaw I see in my theory: When Jaden bumps into Yugi/the Pharaoh at the start of Gx, he isn't wearing the Millennium puzzle.
Just saw the spoiler free video, and ahhhhhhhh! I got a shoutout, thank you!
Fearno nope kaiba shows up in yugioh GX
qjtvaddict I'm aware of that, although this movie is a sequel to the original manga, which is why I made that theory.
Correction they did team up against the rare hunters remember on top of a skyscraper.
Actually the Tombstone with the Millenium Items DID collapsed at the end of the Manga =)
Also, Yugi and Kaiba DID team up before, which was against those two Guys on top of a building during battle City, where the loser would fall down to their death (Or shadow Realm, depending on DUB xD) and I think that battle also happened in the manga!
Yugi won the life point meter stopped because all of the tech froze then. I think not sure I'll rewatch it.
Have you heard the theory that the "new game" Yugi went on to make was Cardfight Vanguard? Not super credible but it's fun to think about.
The theory is Yugi went on to make either Cardfight Vanguard or Force of Will.
kaiba also mentioned about his concentration to visualize atem/yugi's quaff hair.
Obelisk waking up pissed like a toddler who got woken from their nap early was pretty hilarious.
I think joey said he wanted to become a proffesional duelist
There’s one problem with this movie
Bakura has literally so little lines I’m pretty sure the most he talked was when zork took over him and it’s really sad since bakura is my favourite
Kaiba stole the movie for me. I love this movie
You said Kaiba time travelled at the end. I saw it as him going to the Spirit World, seeing as he when he passed on, he was reunited with his old friends. I would assume his personal afterlife would be in the shape of Ancient Egypt than anything else.
The movie was all about Dimensions. Of course Kaiba would travel to a different dimension, and his technology is only facilitating his search but mostly his survival, seeing as you'd normally need to be dead to go the afterlife.
yo kaiba was in the ceremonial duel.. yugi told him to not leave
In the anime, he was not present in the manga
Yugioh Everything ah yeah true
And this is a manga sequel in the original, anime sequel in the dub! Which is why Kaibas motives are SLIGHTLY different in the two variations of the movie!
I really want to see it been watching Yu gi oh since I was a kid E Hero's All day
Neo Nightwing I second that
Was in Atem in the past, though? What if Kaiba went to the afterlife to battle Atem?
nice review!
Im seeing it next tuesday at my theater and Im so excited
though one correction
yugi and kaiba do team up though before darts during battle city when they play against the masked rare hunters
Thats awesome! And you're right! Completely forgot about that duel
Jaden and against Dartz
2:40 There's literally a pillar on the ground right there
The Ishtar’s were in the movie but in the flashback
after watching the movie my thoughts are I really enjoyed it definitely the best yugioh movie so far and the english voice actors did a great job, I enjoyed a lot of the jokes my favourite being kaiba saying that atem's hair was the hardest thing to get correctly the only major problem I had with it was atem coming back at the end and finishing the duel I kind of wanted yugi finishing the duel instead finally showing that he's grown so much
Kaiba goes back using the cube. its sitting in that pod. personally I think it would have been awesome if in the last scene Atem at activated his diadhank.
I agree, this was by far the best of the movies. Seeing Kaiba play Obelisk gave me goosebumps.
