    These recipes are excellent! Thank you. I’m very grateful so many people are turning to ethics and compassion when choosing food. I would like to warn that the proposed use of cell off an animal to make meat, chicken, fish, is unacceptable. Vegan
    Is strictly plant food. The cell option will continue to condemn animals to exploitation and suffering. This recipe to make

    Awesome! I always make my own almond milk but have never tried ricemilk, thanks for the input :)
    As an extra tipp: I always make my milk in big bulks and then bring it to a boil before I fill it into a glass bottle or something else that can take the heat. If you let it cool with the bottle upside down it creates a vacuum and stays fresh much longer. Don't know how well that works with rice or oat milk, tho.

    Making plant based milks is super affordable and a great low waste option. My only issue with it is that store bought milk has added b12 and calcium, and the home made version doesn't. B12 is easily supplemented but do you have any advice for calcium? I know it's in lots of other foods, but really only in small amounts and plant based dairy is a great and accessible source for it

    • @deborahlawrence680
      @deborahlawrence680 5 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      Seeds like chia are great for calcium as well as beans! Nutritional yeast is insanely high in B12 and is cheesy tasting, so I put it in pasta. You only need about a tabkesppon to meet your daily requirement. Hope this helps!

    • @charlotteboys3337
      @charlotteboys3337 5 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      This is my only reservation, too! But this morning I checked the packaging of some calcium fortified oat milk and 100ml still only provided 120mg of calcium.15g of sesame seeds provides 146mg, and 15g of chia seeds provides 95mg. Either way, I'm not quite sure how to reach 1000mg *every day*, but it's good to know I can get that amount of calcium from a tablespoon of seeds 😊

    • @thegerda9030

      Or you can just supplement calcium too

    • @MikeEvansUK
      @MikeEvansUK 5 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      I very much doubt that you are lacking in calcium if you eat real foods. (By the way the calcium requirement of 1g per day doesn't appear to have any hard science behind it.) Most natural foods contain calcium. Leafy greens contain plenty. For example 100g cabbage contains 40mg of calcium. 100g of almost any kind of bean contains over 100mg. Think about it: Asian cultures don't typically consume dairy but calcium deficiency is not a problem in those parts of the world.

    I’m a vegetarian, wanting to become completely vegan once (for the animals of course) it’s just really hard for me, like especially not having any milk is what makes it so hard... but actually, because of this video, I will try. One thing that bothers me so much is that being vegan is soo expensive! I’m in a training where you don’t have a salary for the first two years, so I can’t afford anything expensive like a lot of almonds. But oats are actually really cheap and since it’s so easy to make and makes such a difference... I’m convinced!

    Thank you for sharing this! I didn’t realize how easy it was to make plant based milk. When nut prices drop, I’ll definitely try this out! Also your kitchen is so aesthetically pleasing to look at!
    -
    Don’t let distasteful comments towards vegan-dairy-substitutes prevent you from trying the alternative yourself. Everyone’s tastebuds are different. I’ll admit, at first plant based milks/beverages did taste a little funny. But I didn’t think it was disgusting, it was more unique because it was new.
    After a couple of days, it became a permanent switch from dairy. Then after some weeks, my skin cleared up and I felt more energized.
    Yes, nuts are expensive, making homemade plant-milk a bit difficult to sustainably make. But if you are new to the beverage, try the store first! Of course there will be trial and error when it comes to quality, sugar, and taste, but that’s life.
    And for those who are allergic to nuts, try coconut milk! It may have more sugar, but it’s natural. And although coconuts are classified as a tree nut, most people with the tree nut allergy can safely consume coconut. ¡BUT CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE CONSUMPTION!
    Also, if you ultimately come to the fact that you don’t like plant milk, give the carton to a friend who enjoys the beverage to avoid spoiling it in the landfill. Even though the carton will one day end up there :( .
    Honestly, I couldn’t have been more happier to know that the “milk” I used to eat cereal with isn’t adding hormones that didn’t belong in my body or clogging my arteries with fat. And that I’m not contributing to the abuse of the dairy industry.
    There may be dairy brands out there that actually treat their animals right, but until then... the majority of dairy products are from harming companies. At least from my knowledge.
    I guess my point is counterintuitive because if you aren’t willing to try, then don’t. This comment is more for those who impulsively make up their minds based off other comments about “bad taste”-and for those who have lingering curiosity!
    To the people who think having a plant-based diet is something to bash about-we’re all human, why does someone’s diet predict their behavior? Yes there are vegans and vegetarians on the Internet who put a negative outlook on the plant-diet community, but you should know that-that’s the Internet! You can’t generalize a whole community based on a couple of “impulsive vegans with an agenda”. Not all of us push our lifestyle into other people as if it was a necessity.
    Anyway, I hope this helps promotes a happier and healthier life! And moves to decrease animal cruelty.
    Please feel free to share you’re experience/knowledge with plant based milk! Even if you found distaste for it, I’m just asking for more of an explanation than a simple “I didn’t like the taste”. I also request for low-negativity, but this is the Internet so... YEEHAW-
