If you have never seen Hank Williams Jr in concert you have missed out. I like Hank Williams songs but I love Hank Williams JR the Lord knew what he was doing that day when he sent his angels to save Hank Williams JR life.
In the name of Jesus ❤❤❤
He may have his name but he was meant to sing his way and became a legend on his own and one of the biggest country music singers ever
Audrey was just a pushy stage mother using Hank Jr. as a meal ticket.
Yes he is we got to have a Hank Williams Jr.or it wouldn't be right just like his Daddy in a different way musically thank God Hank Jr did his own thing and don't get the respect that he deserves from the industry.jusr saying
Hank III?
Every time I went to my grandparents/barroom as a little girl, all I heard was Hank Williams playing.
I liked him, Hank Jr. is awesome, too. I like Hank Jr.'s voice better.
Watch his 20/20 interview on TH-cam. He came full circle and became his own man.
I will proudly admit I cry whenever I hear the opening
Hank Jr is a legend
He is a ICON
AGREED 😊
I saw this when I was just a kid, never thought I'd see it again. Thanks for sharing.
Great movie!!!! All hail Bocephus!!!! ♥
I saw Hank Williams Jr three times in 85,86,87 he is a fantastic show man I first this movie in 86 and still love it Richard Thomas did one hell of a job playing Hank Jr
Today I started learning about Hank Williams, then his son, who was pushed to imitate his father from a young age. This was a pretty good story. At first I thought Richard Thomas was an odd choice to play Hank Jr, but when you think about it, I guess he knows a thing or two about being typecast from a young age as John Boy Walton.
Hank Jr, actually picked Richard Thomas 2 portray him
@@JamesSmith-ti5jc he didn't like his acting that's what I read
@@stevenlawson4717 no, I enjoyed his acting very much so, I was acknowledging the fact that Hank Je chose him his self, which implicates, not only, is he a GR8 artist and performer, but, he’s also a good judge of other human’s and their character, and nature, has any1 else portrayed him, U wouldn’t hav got th quality, nor th depth of Richard Thomas’s performance 😎😎👍👍👍👍
@@JamesSmith-ti5jc Thank you, I was unaware Hank Jr. chose Richard Thomas to play him. Have a nice day.👋
@@JamesSmith-ti5jc That is not true at all. I need to upload the Ralph Emery interview where Bocephus denies that he had anything to do with choosing Thomas; in fact, he was unsure Thomas was the right fit.
Hank Jr is a legend. His songs are the essence of country. I grew up listening to A Country Boy Can Survive.
I love that song!!!
This movie I can watch a thousand times over and over again this movie is right next to Coal Miner's Daughter and Urban Cowboy I grew up watching those movies and I've been a country music fan ever since I was a kid
Shannon Patten the Patriot I have the Urban Cowboy movie and soundtrack….. I like Mickey Gilley’s rendition of Stand by Me Johnny Lee’s song Lookin’ for Love and Boz Scaggs’ song Look What You’ve Done to Me…. I hope you will reply to this
@@sherryhannah9262 I do too brother back in those days country music was really jumping you just don't hear very much of it anymore like you used to Mickey Gilley with another one of my favorites next to Hank Williams jr. Charlie Daniels and I do like Johnny Lee he was another great one next to George Strait and Vern Gosdin and Keith Whitley an Earl Thomas Conley plus Alabama and I love Shenandoah country music country anymore
Good that Merle Kilgore played himself.
The hardest thing to be as a kid is himself. Rejection is a huge thing in life, thank goodness Jr had the courage (along with some rebellion), to walk his own path without disliking his father. I grew up a red headed cherokee Indian in Oklahoma with a dad was a end time revelations preacher. Guess i kinda know what jr was going through. What a great story!!! Family tradition. Thanks fellows. "Reddog"
A all time favorite movie of mine about Hank Williams Jr and Richard Thomas did a great job in portraying Hank Williams Jr.
I disagree 100% Richard Thomas is no where even close to the real Hank Jr and not only personality not even close he looks nothing like him Hank Jr is 6'2 I think Richard is 5'6 5"7 at best
While ol' slab buster make's some valid point's about size difference & physical appearance's of both John boy & Ol' Bocephus not being exactly mirror images of each other, I feel like Richard Thomas did an outstanding job of making the viewing audience actually forget they were looking at RT & were really looking at Hank Williams Jr! Now that's good acting 😉👉 btw, Hank Jr isn't the only famous name in this thread, I see you Ms Vaughn 😏
@@Slinger43 yes it is
@@lindavaughn4974 Surely you're aware that you have an Iconic name.
The movie is very accurate…I’m 53 and been to over 30 live Hank concerts! Richard Thomas did a GREAT job portraying Hank in this movie! I’m sure I’ve forgotten more than you know about HANK! Get over yourself
Great Performance By Richard Thomas 😊
For sure.
@jamesprior2496 Exactly 💯
My dad raised me on Hank SR's music & I'm a big fan of Jr. to. My dad raised me on SR's music and it had a lot to do with me becoming a musician myself. Waylon said it best. "It all points back to him".
I AM VERY PROUD OF MY DADDY'S NAME, ALTHOUGH HIS KINDA' MUSIC AND MINE EXACTLY THE SAME.
This was a wonderful movie! I thought I knew details of his accident but it was much more serious than I knew.
The movie didn't do justice for the fall, it took years and Johnny & June Cash played a big role in all of that! His book Living Proof is a great Autobiography, please read it!!

Hank jr has really made his own mark on music I’ve saw him 4 times and I was more than likely conceived one of his concerts, my granddaddy, and my daddy, my grandma and my mama saw Hank Junior Over 20 different times through the years and he is still our treasure without Hank jr I wouldn’t be here I owe my life to that man and his great amazing talented family
Thank you for posting this movie I've been trying to find and watch it again for years!!!💗💗💗💗
A lot of ol timers didn't like Jr, but He had his own generation
YES, HE DID AND WE WERE FIERCELY LOYAL TO JUNIOR. WE TOOK TO HIS ORIGINAL MUSIC THE WAY SENIOR'S FANS DID TO HIS.
I like Jr didn't really care for Sr and cant take Hank 3
I saw Hank Williams Jr 1966 I met him and his mother they sing gospel I have seen him in 3 times I been to his house it says hank
I just loved this a new insight to his life and what an amazing artist
That fall was in the 70s, he was meant to be here for sure!
My dad was a big Hank Jr fan and always hated that "John Boy" played Jr in the movie. I think he did a great job and I wish we had an updated movie about Jr. Saw him several times over the 80s/90s..timeless and true country music..my one true hero of music will always be Bocephus. Thanks for posting this video.
I hope y’all will reply to this I saw this movie when it premiered on NBC Monday night at the movies in February 1983..and I just bawled when Hank Jr. fell off the mountain
I did, i was a kid. funny thing was i had a dart gun that shot those little rubber suction cupped darts and would randomely shoot the tv screen, i nailed him right on his mole in one of the scenes, had the whole family bustin up lol
I am right there with you I watched it in my barracks at Fort Lewis, WA and loved every minute of it
Same her hun
@@billwilliamson9842 id say at the time it was funny but it wasnt a mole .it was a birth mark .get it right you heartless ass.
A LOT OF US DID.
I agree with that comment Hank jr was born to sing his own songs and please his fans and to be successful his own way I've seen hank jr a couple times and he was great all those times
The good Lord was with him when he fell off the mountain 🏔️
Wasn't his time to go yet
Love this movie, I have watched it alot. It's one of my go to movies when I miss my better half.. Love hearing the song Hey Baby I Love you.
Pleasently surprised by John boys performance in this film 😎🌟😎
listening to williams, and williams Jr, im glad they sound different in their own way, but are still a legacy
I love 💕 Hank Williams JR and I love 💝 this video god bless love 💗 from Ohio Irene
I remember hearing The tape "Whiskey bent and hell bound" while between tree and wood spiting job in 79' in the San Mateo Santa Cruz mountains, Calif.I didn't know at the time, but HankJr. Was the sountract of my youth.Thank you Hank
He's the only artist to have 7 albums charted in the top 10 at one time
I was in the hospital in 2021 for 2 months and a half and I have scars like hank does from what they had me on while I was under so I understand about the beard and glasses but hank your my hero.....
I'm a covid 19 and ammonia surviver and my brother had the hospital play hank Jr while I was under sedation in the icu so I know how hank felt and all too love you hank......
went to one of his shows, back in days of old.......good times.
Yep that’s Christian Slater as Walter Jr who stays with Hank when he falls off the mountain
This was a great movie. I remember the first time I saw it, I was in Panama City at the beach house my grandparents used to own. My parents, sister and Nana went somewhere, and so it was just me and Pawpaw at the house for the time. I was upstairs watching CMT, and it came on. I knew vaguely that he started out singing his dad’s music, but never knew how crazy it was, like with him and his mother. I heard Audrey was pretty hard to deal with. Some years later, my dad found this for me on DVD. I don’t know how accurate this movie was as far as names, story, etc, but it was great. I do wish, however, that they would do a full scale theatrical biopic that goes more into his life. Maybe start with before Hank Sr died, and go through his story in more detailed.
Love this movie & Hank Jr., thank you for posting 2nd time I've watched this. 6-25-22
Lord That Fall Horrified Me!
Sometimes people get sad enough to write. The Best Music Ever. So the song goes, sideways sometimes but history is really about the music.Someti.....
So glad Jr sang his way he's.amazing country boy can survive and he has
wow fall off a mountain. became the greatest singer ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!
A real miracle...so grateful we did not lose him like so many others...
Great movie
* embarrassingly decent.
Thank You For Sharing... Haven't seen this in years
My Dad was a huge Hank fan so much he used to sing his songs and was good. He never cared for Jr but I was a huge Jr fan back in the day.
Thanks for posting. Signed Hank ( no BS)
What a great movie and true blessing of a man life.
Very interesting story, thank you.
Hank was smart. Tribute act can only last so long. I think it is very special if he is compelled to play one from the old family tree nowadays. Them Williams boys sure are the best at pickin and singin about the heartland.
2023 better be fkn AWESOME
Entertaining movie for sure with some artistic license taken. Hank's first wifes name is changed from Gwen to June. There's no mention of Shelton Hank (Hank3) being born, and no mention of Audrey's death over 2 months after Hank's fall. I understand they have a time constraint so they probably figured those events didn't need mentioning.
At the time this was made, the baby boy's name didn't really matter. It might to you today, but then it didn't. And number 3 doesn't have to put on a drama show to prove he can be something.
@Kevin Keener It was a fall. If you listen to Hank Jr talk about it, he says the snow gave out from under his feet. He fell almost 500 feet. It's a miracle that he survived and went on to become bigger than he could have imagined.
BETTER THAN YESTERDAY
LOVE IT
Great great video ,mine would have to be the 70's but it also depends on my mood. You forgot about Aloha from Hawaii lol😂😂😂
GdI! I love it the whole thing .
🎻👀. If Hank Jr. ain’t like his daddy
Then I don’t want to go....
If ya don’t honky tonk all night long....
It ain’t a good country show !
I was raised on the Grand Ole Opry.
N’ That’s good enough for me .
Havin’ a blast -Living the past
Hank Sr. Is the one for me !
Now you can call me a traitor
For the music that I choose
But they ain’t got nothin better
Than singing the Honky Tonk Blues.....
Ole Hank would still be singing
If he was still alive....
Carrying on his Tradition
A southern Boy Can Survive
Yeah , if Bo don’t sing like his Daddy
I guess I’ll let it be so.
An I’ll have to give him credit
For putting on a heck of a show.
Yeah, Hank don’t sing like his Daddy
But then ...nobody can
He finally got it right-When he saw the light
Hank Jr. ‘s his own man !
Just whipped it up after the movie. Thanks 😊
I love LOVE this movie. Can someone please recommend another movie similar to this one? Thank you for the upload.
i like this. I hope to meet the good ol boy himself one day, i guess i will, either way...
Are you referring to Hiram or Randal my friend?
@@wildestcowboy2668 he was referring to Randall
I love this movie
The movie gives the impression that Hank & Audrey were together till the end. But he was already remarried. Visiting his grave was an experience. I did tons of research on Hank. I found out disturbing things, that was never revealed to the public. Like the whole situation with so called "DR" Toby Marshall and the highly suspicious circumstances prior to his death. If you can find it. Read snapshots from the lost hwy.
Hank Jr. Knew that riding on his daddy's coattails would only last so long. Mostly Ms. Audrey wanted that not Bocephus. The public loved Hank William's and wanted to continue to hear his music it was fresh then and pure country and he died so early on. Bocephus was heading in another direction. Yo be honest Audrey's persistence and pushing kinda pushed Hank Sr. away kept him drinking , he was a poor boy from Alabama that could write and sing music he wasn't ready for the fame. He enjoyed singing to the crowd in a bar while drinking along with them as much as he did a crowd in a Coliseum. But Bocephus hasn't completely left his daddy's music I seen him devote 1/3 of his show to the older music of his dad's and playing instruments he grew up on in a concert in Hattiesburg Ms. in the early 80s.
Audrey was the worst. She helped kill Hank Sr. He wasn't a Saint by any means, but I would want to down a bottle or two myself if I saw my wife show up to my concert hanging on another guy. And she would sit down close to the stage on purpose to make sure Hank saw her. Audrey was nothing but a gold digger that helped put her husband in an early grave and looked at Hank Jr as an ATM.
I totally agree with you. My Dad didn't like her either and said Audrey was the reason he was so sad and wrote the songs he did. She was truly a gold digger according to my Dad and I figure he knew more than I did!
I didn't know all this.
Again, Hank was no saint. He had a problem with drinking going back to when he was a teenager after being thrown off a horse and hurting his back. But, she didn't help matters at all. She pushed him a lot harder than he wanted and sitting on a bus or in a car all the time, would make a back problem that much worse. All she saw with Hank was dollar signs and a chance to screw around when he was on the road. He loved Audrey and you can hear it in his voice and the lyrics to the songs he wrote. That man was in pain constantly, both physically and emotionally. I think that's why he started seeing other women. He just wanted the hurt to stop and was looking for anyway or anyone to do it.
@@jeffcampbell2710 absolutely Jeff. Hank Williams is my all time favorite country artist. I wrote my senior high school paper about him. The more I researched him, the more I learned and the more I loved his music. That man was a savant. And the more I learned about Audrey the more I despised her. She was just an all around terrible person. I wished Hank would've listened to his mama when she said he should've stayed away from her.
@@bubwal23xifan i
so sad that his mom forced him to sing his fathers song till he became a teenager then he said forget you im doin my own stuff
If you don't know who Hank Jr. Is please turn in all country paper work and exit at closes door! The true honest country with a little rock and omg the true soul of some hard lived blues.
This has so much of the movie cut out
goodnight john boy
Really good movie
Hank Jr. had to go through all that he did to get to where he was and still is! He needed to start out singing his daddy's songs to be able to sing his own songs... don't getvme wrong Sr.'s music was great, in his genre, but Jr.s songs took us into a whole new genre of "Southern Country-Rock".
Just like one of my favorite Jr.'s song, "All in Alabama" says...
"I just had to show 'em I didn't need 'em.
And so, I headed out west to see some old friends of mine.
I thought if I'd climb up 'ol Ajax Mountain
Maybe that would help me get it all off my mind....
"soon it would nearly end
Up on this mountainside, I would nearly die..."
After the fall, he returned to music and it would all change for Hank Jr. He would become one of, or the most famous Sountern Rock" singer of all time... probably out doing Sr.
Although, he was born in Louisiana, Hank has NEVER forgot where his family roots were from. To this day he still owns 5,000 acres here... not far from where I live!
I really liked this movie😊
KOOL!!!
Sometimes you just gotta "turn the page"🤠❤️😎
Hank's A LEGEND
I have plans to replace Richard's singing on the Hank Sr songs to versions by Hank Jr for instance live at Cobo Hall. That is the only fault I can find with the film...well that and the fact that "Feelin Better" was on The New South...lol
Me just like that song
In case y’all don’t know, the groupie after the show at the 13:28 mark is Naomi Judd!
❤ HANK WILLIAMS JR. ♥️🙏✝️🇺🇲🥰❤🤍💙😇❤
Need to make another one
What if I told you Hank Jr. had that dog in him
Is that thumbnail from KSDK in St. Louis?
Richard Thomas did a hell of a job
I think he was way too dramatic to play an ol redneck boy like Hank
Yeah Richard Thomas played a good Hank Williams Jr and it was really authentic this movie was my favorite next to Coal Miner's Daughter I thought they both had a good story
There is a part 2 movie just waiting to pick up where this off
does anybody know where i can find this copy on dvd
That was big shoes for anybody to try to fill, he was as big as they get when he died comparable to Kurt Cobain if you will. Some of you might not like the comparison but they're lives were similar. Nuff said I think Hank Jr. did more than any other junior have done by a long shot.
Thanks 😊 so much for the love and support you have showed me for years now…Are you one of my great fans out there? If you can handle privacy well, text me privately hankwilliamsjrart@gmail.com
Kurt Cobain is a great comparison to Hank Williams Sr.
Simply put.... Bocephus is the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

Great intertaining film, you couldn't make a film like this today. It would be ruined with wokeness, and diversity.
Was Audrey really that hardheaded? Well, she divorced Hank, pretty much kill his spirit, then lived off his fame and name. Ran Randall's life, trying to make him into the man she killed by her cheating lying ways. Junior finally got her off his back and made his career the way he wanted it. If Hank Williams Sr would have done that in his mind and heart with Billie Jean, he'd live a little longer. But he was chained to the memory of Audrey and a slave to wanting her love.
Does anybody know what year this movie was made.
OOOOOooooooWEEEeeeeeeeee.....................Mama Judd in the Red Dress was a smoke show in her day
Looked like Naomi Judd: the beautiful redhead who arranges to meet Hank Jr. I don't see her name listed above. Love and prayers to Naomi and her family, friends.
He out lived his dad over 3X ,,,,,,,,,,I WISH Hank Williams was at least on HEE HAWW 👀
I skipped around a lot, coz I used to see this on satellite when I was a little guy. But I always (even given this movie &/or story aside,) Merle always seemed like the type to bust in, and of course came on in, to swipe whomever's ludes and/or speed, (qualudes were around then, probly..right?) dump em' in his pocket and pretend to help you look for them all evenin.
I realize that's not the definite popular opinion..but as much as I love Outlaw Country music, the Hag always struck me as a prick.
And I don't know how, or why..but I've always preferred any/every fucker else, way above and before Ze Haggg.
