I like cod liver and a great recipe is: boil eggs as many as you want, a bit hard so that the yolk is firm. Cut the eggs in halves and take out the yolks. Mix the yolks with cod liver (one can to maybe four yolks) and use the spices you like. Put the yolk/cod liver mix into the egg halves where the yolks have been. I heard that sardines are healthier packed in water instead of olive oil as the olive oil can't be trusted to be extra virgin, cold pressed and 100% olive oil and not a blend. If you can verify from the brand that it's at least 100% olive oil and not a blend then I would consume it. If not, I wouldn't.

Thanks, Dr. Berg for recommending Cod Liver a few years back. Been having it regularly ever since and often together with sardines or salmon! Very tasty combos!
i am from central Europe, and cod liver is very priced food. We used it for decorated toasts on holidays. Now I have one can every 2 weeks. Just discard oil to the bottle, and put the liver on plate. Sprinkle with ground black pepper, and chopped green scallion. You can smash it little bit with fork. And on the end sprinkle with fresh squeezed 1/2 lemon juice. It is so delicious. It suppose to be on slice of bred, spread with butter, but I don't eat any bread. The leftover of oil keep in fridge, and have a one tsp or Tbsp daily.
Oh man! I know this is going to be great. I've eaten sardines for years, but just started enjoying cod liver (thanks to Dr. Berg's recommendation) both are so satisfying and delicious.
Dr Berg you did it again. I had been wondering about this 3 days of eating sardines? Wondering if it’s a necessary step to revamp your microbiome? I’ve been very happy 🎉since I learned about fat, carbs, protein. Ketogenic low carb has changed our lives. And your VIDEOS keep us alert to the many changes as you keep digging in your research 🙌🙌 thank you. Several years ago, I ate 2 cans of cod liver per week. I stopped taking Vitamin D supplements. To my surprise, after about a year of this, my Vitamin D levels were very close to the lower bound of normal. I was close to being deficient!... In any case, it was still very tasty (it feels like it is melting in your mouth), so I am not complaining.
Is it ok to have canned food so frequently? Seems some food is only available in can and I hesitate because of that. Otherwise i will try as well. Just curious.
I wonder if 2 cans a week was enough to replace daily Vitamin D supplements which has a short shelf life. I take 10,000 ius of D3 with K2 (Dr. Berg brand). Cod liver comes nowhere near that so you'd need to make sure to get lots of D3 from other sources.
I have also been a little concerned about the cod liver being canned. As for "Cod liver comes nowhere near that", I believe you are wrong. According to Chat GPT, "a rough estimate is that there are approximately 1000 IU of vitamin D3 in 1 teaspoon (about 5 ml) of cod liver oil.", and there are 120 ml per can, so about 24000 IU of vitamin D3 per can.
Grocery Outlet in Portland had premium Sardines in water for .23 cents a can vs $3.89 usual price because they were coming up on expiration. Bought half a cart full. 15x24qty boxes so I am set.
Lol I have bottle of cod liver in my fridge and it always weighs into my health equation 😊 We shouldn't go away from some things our parents or grandparents gave us for good health even if it does taste yucky 😂 as the benefits far outweighs the taste 😊 Cheers much again Dr Berg ❤
I ate if for the first time last weekend, it tastes great. The idea made me kind of grossed out while eating it and saying “tastes like tuna….” When I had a few small bites i could eat it normally. Gonna gave it again this weekend, trying once a week. Still kind of nervous but also looking forward it because it tastes good and is so good for you…. I’m pregnant as well so it’s a mega vitamine
Cod liver oil is an amazing supplement. Possibly the greatest. Remember if you eat the actual liver....it is a very concentrated food that you only need to eat once a week or 2 weeks. Or you can take a little cod liver OIL daily. We're talking in the half teaspoon range.
I've gotten into sardines lately and enjoy their flavor. After seeing this video, I ordered some cans of the same brand of cod liver shown here and tried some today for the first time. Surprisingly, I liked it! I had it with freshly cracked pepper, salt, and some lemon juice on a toasted bagel. I would describe the flavor as quite fishy, but more delicate than sardines, with an incredibly rich, buttery flavor and texture. You can taste that there is less protein than sardines; instead, it has an incredible amount of fat and richness. I described cod liver to my girlfriend as tasting like "butter made of meat." That should give you an idea of the taste and texture profile of this stuff. I'm very surprised that I liked it. Since cod liver is so rich (and expensive), I will probably only eat a can a week at most. But I think my food experiment was very successful. Thanks, Doctor Berg, for your breakdown and recommendation.
Both gotta taste good. They are the top gourmet foods in France, Spain and Portugal. They have the same valuable status just as how Japanese value their ceremonial grade matcha. Cod liver oil and sardines are hailed as superfoods in the world of fitness. There's even a shop in Lisboa, Portugal selling nothing but fancy canned sardines (and maybe cod liver & tuna too)
Dr. Boz got me eating sardines. And I’ve been adding canned cod livers once or twice a week to my diet. Cod livers have ~10x the omega 3s compared with sardines. I eat both. Far from my favorite foods, but the two are so good for you.
I have read many books, I listened to many TH-cam videos by many of the world's leading gurus and health experts but nothing came close to the hidden herbs by anette ray. I recommend everyone giving it a read.

I eat that same brand of cod liver Ideally how much should I consume I am a 64 year old woman about 140 lbs Right now I eat one can of cod liver one or two cans of sardines and one can of red soceye a week
The cod liver I buy comes "in it's own oil", according to the labelling on the can. But is that oil *really* the same oil - or same quality of oil - as the oil in the cod liver? Is it OK to eat that oil as well as the cod liver itself?
My favorite way to eat the cod liver is to mix it in apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice with salt. I would take some of the mixture and smear it on bread and then add chopped red onions and garlic power on top. Taste decent enough
A tin of Cod Liver in fat/ oil that cooked out has just under the RDA of Vitamin D if you eat the entire tin. It is still excellent nutrition. A 15 ounce can of Salmon has 300% of the RDA of vitamin D.
What about the mercury/heavy metals content of the cod liver? Doesn't the liver contain all the toxins? This can be concering for long term if it has a lot of mercury. Mercury posioning is terrifing
Thanks for the EXCELLENT breakdown. p.s. I can’t seem to find cod liver, but take cod liver oil daily, keep sardines in stock, & eat them occasionally.
Readily available in the uk. This is a powerful and natural way to overcome the global problem of low vit d in countries with sub par levels of sunshine and those who work predominantly indoors.
Last time I ate cod liver 10 years ago I've puked my guts out. Now I feel to give it another try since I like eating sardines since a year or two. Maybe it won't be that bad now. So, my fingers crossed on this one 😊
My father was a seafood distributor. Cod always grossed me out. When I was a teen and in my 20s, I would see these orange worms in and on the meat of the cod. That was 50 years ago. Cod still grosses me out! You had to be there to see it. Sometimes they were not visible. I can not forget those experiences. Cooked or not, they often were very visible, large and orange in color.
I love this guy, he got me started on both of these and I've been eating them for over two years now! How often do you suggest eating cod liver? Is it bad for raising cholesterol? Thank you!
Thanks, Dr. Berg. I've followed Dr. Suzanne Humphries for over fifteen years. She recommends supplements I've been taking for over a decade (Livon Labs vitamin c, b-complex, magnesium, gluthothione). Another supplement she recommends is cod liver oil. Great doctors think alike:)
I'd do cod liver if they were more affordable. Sardines are usually inexpensive. I do 2 cans of sardines a week, plus I take fish oil and flax oil suppliments.
@@Drberg how much of cod, sardine and beef liver do you recommend? and how often a week? all 3 a day or a set amount one day then move to the other type then the other in a rotation?
There's all the oil in the liver because instead of using a swim bladder to control buoyancy, the fish actually uses the liver to control buoyancy by changing the ratio of oil in its body.
Super Info except that I can't stand cod, but maybe I should look back to it for my health sake as I'm doing all I can to get back on track completely. So far your advice Dr. Berg, has helped me tremendously. Thank you from the core of my heart❤ Blessings, be well, be blessed🙏🕎❤
Dr. Berg, I eat sardines every day but I have heard that any canned fish could contain heavy and/or toxic metals because of the can. Should I be concerned with canned fish?
IMHO better to use it as salad dressing then chew to ensure you get enough digestive enzyme into the food before you swallow. Funny that the smoothie addicted people on TicTok also seek to learn Mewing ! 🤔

Grocery Outlet in Portland had premium Sardines in water for .23 cents a can vs $3.89 usual price because they were coming up on expiration. Bought half a cart full. 15x24qty boxes so I am set.
Lol I have bottle of cod liver in my fridge and it always weighs into my health equation 😊
We shouldn't go away from some things our parents or grandparents gave us for good health even if it does taste yucky 😂 as the benefits far outweighs the taste 😊
Cheers much again Dr Berg ❤
Doc i literally just started eating sardines adding cod liver now as well. Your timing has always been epic! Much love. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic!
For desert my girlfriend is always asking for smoked cod liver on keto toast. Some cracked pepper and pickled onions it's one of the best things!
I blend a can of cod liver with a can of smoked oysters and spread on keto high fibre toast with avocado and olives on the side.
Cod liver oil is an amazing supplement. Possibly the greatest.
Remember if you eat the actual liver....it is a very concentrated food that you only need to eat once a week or 2 weeks.
Or you can take a little cod liver OIL daily. We're talking in the half teaspoon range.
Never knew. As always, great information. Thanks
Glad you the information shared here. Have a nice day!
Leave aside our consuming but for your comparison is of immense value for our health perspective. We are blessed🙏
❤Thank you so much and so much for your information dr Berg. It's great explanation and really informative
There's even a shop in Lisboa, Portugal selling nothing but fancy canned sardines (and maybe cod liver & tuna too)
The texture of cod liver is very similar to blood curd, just in case if you are struggling to describe 😂
Is cod liver free of heavy metals like sardine?
Dr. Boz got me eating sardines. And I’ve been adding canned cod livers once or twice a week to my diet. Cod livers have ~10x the omega 3s compared with sardines. I eat both. Far from my favorite foods, but the two are so good for you.
Wow! Excellent Presentation that everyone can understand clearly...
Glad you like the presentation. Thanks for watching.
I just started eating sardines regularly the day before this vid was uploaded. wild. Thank you! I’ll interchange the cod liver from now on
I have read many books, I listened to many TH-cam videos by many of the world's leading gurus and health experts but nothing came close to the hidden herbs by anette ray. I recommend everyone giving it a read.
great book for everyone searching just found it on her website just search for the hidden herbs
she talking about some things that nobody thought me
heard about it before, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for highlighting the different values of both sardine and codliver oil . I take cod liver oil gel one a day.
That is a very interesting video. Thank you very much.
You're most welcome.
Thank you, Doctor Berg; trying to find cod liver oil seems to be a challenge.
Didn't know you could buy the cod liver!😮😊
Cod liver on boiled eggs is delicious. Thank you!
You don't mention the risk of heavy metal, and plastic content in our oceans today? Would be great if you can clarify!?
That iCan cod liver in its oil is absolutely Delicious, tysm for information
Is taking cod liver oil supplements equivalent or is it better to actually eat the cod liver itself?

I eat that same brand of cod liver
Ideally how much should I consume
I am a 64 year old woman about 140 lbs
Right now I eat one can of cod liver one or two cans of sardines and one can of red soceye a week
The cod liver I buy comes "in it's own oil", according to the labelling on the can. But is that oil *really* the same oil - or same quality of oil - as the oil in the cod liver? Is it OK to eat that oil as well as the cod liver itself?
good question 🤔
My favorite way to eat the cod liver is to mix it in apple cider vinegar, and lemon juice with salt. I would take some of the mixture and smear it on bread and then add chopped red onions and garlic power on top. Taste decent enough
Thank you and good morning!
You're very welcome!
Was a great video like always 👍🏻
Good to know cod liver has a lot of Vitamin A especially for night visions.
A tin of Cod Liver in fat/ oil that cooked out has just under the RDA of Vitamin D if you eat the entire tin.
It is still excellent nutrition.
A 15 ounce can of Salmon has 300% of the RDA of vitamin D.
A video on "Fish Oil" vs "Cod Liver Oil" would be awesome! (I use Carlsons)
I just got some on Amazon.
@@wildswan221 Thanks. I guess I’ll have to resort to that too
Sardines very cheap, cod livers, very expensive!
Expensive? How
3 - 5 dollars for a 4 oz can is not at all expensive..... and often times they are canned with their own oil
also probably less mercury
That IS expensive - sardines cost $ .80 c compared to Cod liver
But cod liver has 10 times the omega 3, so a much cheaper source of it.
What the maximum amount of Icelandic Cod Liver should I consume in a week? It's so good, I can't stop eating it, but I understand too much is toxic...
Great info
Thank you
Glad you found it useful!
Ordered this product---tastes great! Great video!!!
Thank you for your great work
Glad to help!
no link at end of video regarding benefits of cod liver oil
Hello. You can use this link: www.youtube.com/@Drberg/search?query=cod%20liver%20benefit
My father in the 60s used to give us called liver oil it didn’t taste that great but I believe it was really great for you
Тут не в мужчине/женщине, а в намерениях и ответственности.
thank you again May Christ Jesus be Your Lord Blessings to You from Canada
Holy mackerel!
Worth mentioning that if you do not like the taste of liver, you will probably be fine with cod liver. It tastes very close to a mild smoked salmon.
I heard side effects of cod liver oil. . Could you pls make a video on that. How much dosage we should take of cod liver oil.
This guy is great and his videos are some of the best 411 on the net.
I haven't watched this video but no way in Hades am I going to consume cod liver oil. I tried it once....I threw up. Soooo bad.
🤢🤮
I take it, mine is blended with lemon, yum!
Yes I eat them both but the sardines have to be packed in olive oil not the sunflower oil 😊
Make sure that there grass fed!
Make sure that you spell *they’re* correctly!
@reggiedunlop2222 thanks for correcting me, I thought only my wife did that.
@@bobeldredge282
Fish are not cows and cannot be grass fed. Also you dont have a wife, you have a husband you foool.
Readily available in the uk. This is a powerful and natural way to overcome the global problem of low vit d in countries with sub par levels of sunshine and those who work predominantly indoors.
Just been searching our UK supermarkets, thus far, zero results.
Last time I ate cod liver 10 years ago I've puked my guts out. Now I feel to give it another try since I like eating sardines since a year or two. Maybe it won't be that bad now. So, my fingers crossed on this one 😊
We'll see how it goes, then!
Switch to cod liver oil instead
Cod liver is now on my grocery list. Thanks for sharing the healthy information Doctor Berg.
Glad to hear that! You're very welcome.
@@Drberg how much of cod, sardine and beef liver do you recommend? and how often a week? all 3 a day or a set amount one day then move to the other type then the other in a rotation?
Right here - I’ve never heard about cod livers, THANK YOU!
There's all the oil in the liver because instead of using a swim bladder to control buoyancy, the fish actually uses the liver to control buoyancy by changing the ratio of oil in its body.
Another awesome video! Thank you Dr. Berg!
Never did cod liver, I will start from now on
Beyond the amazing doctor on the planet. Thank you I was searching on the code liver and I got it.
Dr. Berg, I eat sardines every day but I have heard that any canned fish could contain heavy and/or toxic metals because of the can. Should I be concerned with canned fish?
So blend sardines, cod liver, salmon and eggs into a shake and we're good to go. Got it! Yummy!
IMHO better to use it as salad dressing then chew to ensure you get enough digestive enzyme into the food before you swallow. Funny that the smoothie addicted people on TicTok also seek to learn Mewing ! 🤔
I’ve been taking krill oil, it seems pretty potent
Agreed, it's in my fishy rotation.
