If the small fish are safer for pollutants such as mercury, should I select the filets from smaller (wild caught alaskan) salmon when I have the opportunity?

I worked in the salmon farming industry for 8 years or so when it first started on the East Coast of Canada. They don't use dye to color the meat. It is the krill and small crustaceans that give it the pink flesh. I think salmon should be on the toxic food list. They have been pumped full of drugs to combat disease and viruses that the actual act of farm fishing created. I don't think the wild caught salmon are much better. I can taste the difference.

@@allenparsens5279 I didn't do it and I'm sure you didn't do it. But a hundred and fifty years of pumping mercury and other heavy metal compounds into the ocean from industrial production and fabrication plus over 150 nuclear detonations and mishaps probably did. I'm not one of those environmentalists nuts or believe the world will end in 13 years because of climate change because that is a totally different story and completely false. But the pollution of our oceans is sadly very true.

    • @allenparsens5279
      @allenparsens5279 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@shannonmonroe5873 I am not speaking about you as an individual, or me as an individual, or the guy next door. I am referring to the population in general. No one want to destroy or pollute the earth. People regularly protest it and those protests go ignored. Those behind the pollution are the industrialists, the moguls, royalty, the robber barons, the authorities. I am sick and tired of people saying “we” like war, like destruction etc. It isn’t we. It is just a few sick twisted people at the top. If you don’t define who they are, then the next thing you will be doing, is blaming the population for lets say, climate change.

Even as a picky eater child who didn't like most meats my mother could always depend on my eating most any fish. Being made fully aware of the true nature of the health limitations of eating today's fish as a dietary staple is very vital for myself and all of those who depend on it routinely in their weekly diets. Great video. Couple of important points to add. Watch out what oil is added to your canned fish. Many manufacturers pack sardines and other fish in soybean oil which is high in omega 6. Some use cottenseed oil, a highly industrially processed oil with trace pesticides. I have found Trader Joe's to have a great selection of sardines and anchovies packed in olive oil or water. I always go for the olive oil as I think it holds the fish flavor better plus the olive oil bonus. I often save the leftover packing oil for other recipes. I would not recommend their canned trout as it is farm raised and packed in canola oil. They also have wild sockeye salmon (canned and frozen) although I have not tried it my self.

Hello Dr. Ekberg . . . great info here. However, I'd like to point out the distinctly different characteristics of the Albacore Tuna. When people say 'tuna', they often think of the very large and sought after Bluefin and Yellowfin tuna you see on tv shows. The Albacore tuna is a very sustainable species that we fish for commercially and recreationally on the West Coast of the US (Primarily north) and typically only catch juveniles that are between 8-30 lbs. Low mercury and young age.

    • @cavemantero

Thank you. There literally is an agenda to keep Bluefin and Yellowfin away from the masses. I've never heard of anyone dying from eating to much of it or even having it as part of a steady diet. Lots of propaganda out there to guide the customer to what THEY want to feed you rather than what is actually good to eat! There's a reason why Bluefin is so massively expensive. If you've ever had Bluefin nigiri/shashimi (Toro) you know.

I love your channel! It's great being able to break from all the misinformation about health we've been fed over decades. I'm truly grateful for the information you and other Drs. are sharing on TH-cam, to which most of the general public would never access otherwise.
I have a suggestion for a video, could you talk about how to heal amenorrhea naturally? Like which are the possible causes and which foods/ supplements/ herbs could help regulate the female hormones and the menstrual cycle. I'm 22 years old with a BMI of 21 and I follow a low carb diet (less than 50g a day) but I haven't had my period in over 6 months. I've heard that increasing the carb intake could help to get it back. Is this true?

Herring, sardines, mackerel = cat food. I used to buy cans of jack mackerel at Walmart for the kitty because it was cheaper than cat food and the cat liked it. Could only give it to him once or twice a week though because it gave him the runs.

Thanks for all the great videos Doctor! I was wondering if you can mitigate some of the Mercury risk from tuna, by using cilantro when you make tuna salad with avocado. I've heard a few times that cilantro is good for getting heavy metals out of the body. Curious what your thoughts are on that.

You would need high levels of cilantro. Removal of mercury toxicity can be accomplished via cilantro, saunas, etc naturally. However, acute cases of toxicity require chelation treatment through your hospital.

Here in Europe, especially in Holland, the Dutch "Matjes" is eaten for the best, healthiest and tastiest fish. It is the very young (virgin) herring that can only be caught from May 1st. The season runs from mid-June to September. The "Matjes" is extremely high in omega 3 and very little mercury.

Every time I cross the German border to get some of those "Majestes" to CH, as they don't have any of those. The only problem with the Dutch ones is added rapeseed oil..
There's also some in France, and it seems that they get it in the Atlantic with no oils added.

Eat "Wild Caught" and "Sustainable" fish.
Salmon, Sardines and Skipjack tuna for low mercury.
Some cans say "The Lowest Mercury..." so that would be a good tuna to eat, except look for the "Non-BPA" statement on the label if you want to avoid that toxin.

A lot of people don’t know the difference between omega 3 and omega 6. Omega 3 fats thin your blood and omega 6 fats thicken your blood. We need both, but the western diet usually has way too much omega 6 fats. This is why everyone stresses omega 3’s.
