Let’s talk about sea salt.
It’s important to get sea salt that has been extracted from parts of the world with very low, or zero, microplastics.
The best types of sea salt are:
• Himalayan sea salt
• Celtic Sea Salt
• Redmond Real Salt sea salt
• Baja Gold sea salt
All of these types of sea salt contain sodium chloride and trace minerals.
If you want a sea salt that’s higher in trace minerals, you might want to go with Baja Gold. But, if you need more sodium chloride, the other types of sea salt I’ve mentioned are all great choices.
Table salt, or sodium chloride, only has two minerals. Sea salt has between 60 and 94 minerals. Regular salt can also come from very polluted areas and can contain microplastics. Microplastics can affect the body’s endocrine system.
People who are salt-sensitive may really just need to go on a low-carb diet and consume more potassium.
You need sea salt to support a healthy body. A deficiency in sodium or chloride can lead to all kinds of issues.
If you’re deficient in sodium, you may feel more anxiety and have trouble sleeping. Sodium deficiency can impact your immune system and lead to high blood pressure. Sea salt also helps hydrate you, and without enough sodium, your risk for insulin resistance goes up.
If you’re on keto and are doing intermittent fasting, it’s essential to consume enough sea salt. If you don’t, you could experience symptoms like low blood pressure, dehydration, and overall weakness. If you exercise, your need for sea salt goes up even more.

I live near the town of Pakistan where the Himalayan salt mines are located. I have had asthma since I was three years old. I cured my asthma at the age of 23 last year through prolonged exposure to Himalayan salt. In the Khewra mine, there are chambers where people can lie down, rest, and absorb the healing properties of Himalayan salt. I cured my asthma by lying down in these chambers with salt beds for a few hours every week.
AWESOME!😃 I'm glad ur healed from it!
I have asthma and have been learning about the connection to salt. I use Himalayan salt in recipes and I love it, so flavorful. Thank you for sharing your amazing story 💙🙏🏻
Pakistanis eat oil came out from gutter they import it from China (don't search gutter oil from China)
I drink 3 to 4 cups of coffee daily, and I love salty food. Now, Dr. Berg helps me to understand the reason....I am losing 4 teaspoons just by drinking coffee alone. No more guilt about craving for salty food 😊
@@supremelysoigne Thanks! Appreciate it!
For about 5 months I have been mixing 1/4 teaspoon of Himalayan salt with juice of 1/2 lime, about 6 ounces of water and a splash of Apple cider vinegar. The change in my body has been eye opening. My skin has become elastic again and many wrinkles have disappeared. I also feel as if I can breathe easier.
1 glass a day?

you would get the same effect from normal table salt dont get it twisted

As a child I used to feel very travel sick, and some elderly relative told me to eat something salty before and during travelling. It helped!
Suck on plain water ice blocks for travel sickness.

Redmond's Real Salt is amazing. And since going from low salt to generously salting my food and drinking electrolyte water, my BP is more stable than ever before. And no more chronic fatigue and weak legs!
Hello Dr.Berg. You have helped me lose 70lbs in 2018-2019 and I recently gained some of it back however I am going back on keto starting tomorrow and recently received my order of Dr.Berg electrolytes Magnesium glycinate vitamin D3-K2 and also just placed an order for Celtic sea salt because I love salting my steak 24hrs ahead of time and also love using it in my coffee. I just wanted to thank you for helping me with my over all health with your endless free information and your quality vitamins and products that you also give us free knowledge of how they work and their benefits. Congradulations on your TH-cam success you deserve it for all you do for the health of the world while other doctors do nothing but push products to mask problems instead of giving us knowledge on how to fix problems like you do. I cant thank you enough and that's why I buy your products to support you like you support us. Thank you
Totally agree. Thank you, Dr. Berg!
Yes its true! Thank you Dr. Berg you really have a golden heart
You're so right! If we can, we should support him by buying his quality supplements like he supports us!
Well done. Keep it going.
Celtic by all means is better since it’s the only salt that has 3 forms of Magnesium. Magnesium loves water and holds on to it. Thanks to an Angel I’ve gotten the privilege to learn from Miss O’Neill
I appreciate Dr. Berg doing the research because I'd heard that plastics were a concern in Celtic salt. I use both types. I'm in USA so I use Redmonds all day in my food and water but use Celtic for a somewhat sweeter flavor in my coffee AND I use it to soak some psoriasis patches on my legs. It reduces itching and inflammation, and one patch has completely returned to soft normal skin, although still a dark stain after a year. (I've read that swimming in the ocean can resolve skin problems).
Castor oil can help too
@@roselavender2222you mean for skin problems?
@@roselavender2222 I just started that this week coincidentally. Seeing some changes so hopefully doing both will clear it up faster than a year. Tks
Thank you Dr. Berg in sharing your knowledge specially in this specific issue. I had this question. Your clear my question. Thanks so much
I used sea salt for 30 years and I noticed that it took away the swelling in my lower legs, then I started to take himalayan salt, that helped with my seasonal rhinitis
I was told a few years back I have high blood pressure and then strongly told I need to watch my intake of salt. I then went and saw a different doctor and he too told me the same thing, but he did some basic blood work too. So when I got my results back and I myself noticed my sodium was under normal range a little bit I asked the doctor, how can I have high blood pressure and you told me to watch my salt intake and don't use much and there's Mrs. Dash yet, my sodium shows it's below where I'm suppose to be. He look like a deer in headlights. Stuck!
Then he said, it could be from other things too. I said yeah not enough potassium and electrolytes. Didn't say much after that.
By the way, my low sodium levels were a result of drinking too much water and not replenishing my electrolytes while I was sick. I was allowing my fever to run its course and was also fasting, and all of that combined caused my sodium levels to drop. Don't make the same mistake as me, lol. I am now drinking a liter of electrolyte water every day and have reduced my water intake because I was drinking way too much water in general. I always thought my pee should be clear but apparently that means you are overhydrated.
Thanks for your advice.
Yep doctors go through years of training. They're taught to think of the human body as a machine never taught to think how things are connected and how an imbalance here will have an effect on several other processes. This could be why cancer is up so high. Heart disease is higher than it's ever been.
Doctors are not taught enough about nutrition. If anything. Unless they research on their own
A Magnesium deficiency causes high BP
I mix pink salt with sea salt, 50/50, in my salt shaker. I also do electrolytes, and a trace mineral suppliment. Also a kelp tablet. Zink/copper.
I love Dr. Berg you are awesome thank you ☺️
Thanks Dr. Berg. Very helpful information delivered in a soft easy to listen to voice. Subscribed! 😊

Wow!! This really helped me. I soak in hot springs often, and find that I need, yes NEED, more salt & electrolytes because of it. I also have started drinking decaf, and that is quite likely driving my need higher. Yes, I get daily exercise, and that is when I feel a HUGE difference with or without Salt & electrolytes!!!!
Great information! Thanks for sharing this!!! I appreciate you!
You're welcome! Glad you found it useful!
Excellent topic. I have purchased all three of the salts mentions. I had been using pink Himalayan salt for years I didn’t even know there was a Celtic sea salt or Redmonds Until recently. The Celtic salt is more costly and seems to be out of stock more often. I like it a lot and it’s flavor differs.
Love your work.
I have both Baja Gold and Redmond. Both are great.
Dr. Berg, this video could not have come at a better time. I had a seizure a couple of weeks ago that was caused by low sodium. I got a concussion from my head hitting the ceramic floor and my lip was split in half. I was home alone and according to my smart watch, the whole event lasted several minutes. Fortunately, I don't remember 99% of the event. I somehow made my way across the kitchen but I don't remember how. I am extremely lucky that I didn't hurt myself more than that.
The doctor said my sodium levels were dangerously low, so I've been learning more about this topic and your information is by far the best. I've been making my own electrolyte water but it sounds like I need to add more potassium to my electrolyte mix. Thank you!!
Great. Hope the info here will help you.
Yes. You may want to try Dr Bergs electrolytes.
@@helenevion5948 I checked it out and it's outrageously expensive. He uses pink himalayan salt and I prefer celtic sea salt. I appreciate the suggestion though!
WOW, I am so sorry you were alone. I've had them, too. Fortunately, I was not alone. I pray this helps you. I am starting to take a pinch of celtic salt daily.

I’ve been wanting to try Redmond salt for over a year now and your video prompted me to check it out again. I discovered it’s now being sold in my country so picked some up. It’s amazing. Will never use anything else again.
Go look at MamaVation’s post. She independently tested redmonds. It’s one of the worst for contaminants.
I used to be so salt sensitive that I got so tired after eating a normal dose I almost passed out. I didn't feel bad or anything it was just like knockout sleeping pills. I wonder why that is, it felt like it might kill me some day.
But now I am no longer salt sensitive at all, thanks to your advice. I noticed that I need a lot more potassium than I ever consumed before.
Also it is true, after an hour of intensive exercise, I lose all energy without extra salt and potassium. Not surprising since I sweat out around 2 liters of water per hour according to my water consumption.
I used to follow common wisdom, thinking I just need to take extra magnesium, but that didn't help at all.
It is quite bothersome to try to share that information with others online, since someone will immediately tell you how dangerous potassium allegedly is. It's quite interesting how misinformed the most informed people online are.
Any time I listen to your advice, it makes me feel significantly better, when mainstream advice at best did nothing or at worst made me feel worse. And I used to be a bed ridden basket case. So I can't thank you enough.
I agree. Potassium is so important but it’s rarely highlighted and everyone has been taught to be afraid of salt. Not realizing it’s the very processed table salt that can be a problem.
Awesome, thanks for sharing!
I was recently told by my Cardiologist to be careful taking potassium. Too much can kill you and that's what they give people on death row when its their time to be put to sleep.
Talking about going to an extreme to be careful. Whew!
I take 1/2 tsp. of potassium bicarb with each tablespoon of ACV; people will scoff at anything that is different. In this case, ignorance is not bliss in the long run. Don't let it bother you. Take care:)
PS. Pottenger's Human channel does a video on why we need more sodium, and why the potassium bicarb when taking ACV (essential). I also don't worry about salt intake, eating extremely low carb and all food cooked from scratch. You know what's best for you. x
I've experimented with different combinations and brands of electrolytes (eating more greens etc) with mixed results in after lunch energy and focus. The popular sports brand (LMNT) was TERRIBLE for me causing heart palpitations. It's very high in salt and not much potassium. I've found that Dr. Berg's most recent formulation of electrolyte powder is best for me. It's much higher in potassium which helps balance all the salt I take in meals. I work outside a lot gardening and home renovations and find I thrive on a 12 oz glass of water with Dr.Berg powder and a TBSP ACV at 3pm every afternoon keeps me going - especially in summer!
Thank you
Thanks for the great info

I've mentioned about Celtic Salt a long time ago and Dr. Berg response was..."there are many types of salts". Already knowing this, I'll stand by my initial comment about Celtic Salt in that it contains the highest amount of trace minerals than any other salts.
Well, in the video he doesn't down play any salt buttable salt. He basically said watch for the plastics in the salt, know where it's coming from and YOU YOU YOU decide what salt you'd like based on the amount of minerals you want.
So, it sounds like Celtic Sea salt was your choice. Great!
Dr. Berg saying there's many different salts still stands with Absalute Truth.
Happy salt eating!
And the highest amount of plastic

I turn my Himalayan seasalt into powder with a coffee grinder . I like it as i dab on my finger before i exercise for electrolyte benefit . I like it better in a powdered form on my food as it spreads better to improve flavor . Maybe its better for absorption not having the larger chrystals that normaly comes with Himalayan salt .

Love a good salad with olive oil and red vinegar, Himalayan salt and cracked pepper 😋
I never thought of the microplastics in salt. Always found it interesting that salt is composed of an explosive metal (sodium) and a poisonous gas (chlorine) yet tastes great.

Hey Doc, it's Keltic a hard C. SELTIC is the basketball team. Great information though. Fun fact... the ancient celtic tribes in the iron age at places like Hallstatt were mining salt! They even traded it with the Greeks.

In Korea they have Jugyeom. It is prepared by packing bay salt in a thick bamboo stem, and baking it nine times on high temperature using pine firewood. Burns away the microplastics and adds extra nutrients from the bamboo and yellow clay used for sealing. Not sure how healthy it is, but it is very popular.
Ya but like $80 an oz!
Yep
@Petesworkshop2225 Japanese stuff is almost always expensive but good.
There is one problem with buying himalayan sea salt is the Grinders you often see them sold in are a tube with a set of plastic grinding cogs, . If you use himalayan sea salt use it loose, empty it out off any plastic grinder and use a mortar and pestle or make sure its a grinder with metal grinding teeth, If you use the sold in grinder , the salt is powerful enough to grind the plastic grinding teeth and leave micro plastic in the salt. I noticed this early when the Himalayan fad first hit , i was seasoning a steak one day when seasoning was laying on the bottom of the pan went black molten and smoked nasty , i then worked out the grinders were disintegrating and the particles contaminating the salt. But altogether natural salts are just the same the minor trace mineral difference are negligible , I like french salt pan evaporation salt that's what i use only now. There are scientific videos on YT comparing the actual trace minerals in Him Salt to others Himalayan salt isn't any more special
Use Himalayan salt by puting it in a bottle (3, 4 heaped tablespoon) and adding one cup water. Mix well with spoon.
Now you can use this salty water in your food. According to your taste.
Big shout out to you Dr berg from Pakistan
