Quick note: You do not have to replace the entire handle and lock mechanism if it’s just your lock that is broken or you have lost your keys. You only need to replace the barrel part which is called a “Euro cylinder lock”. If your door is dead bolted and you can’t unlock, here’s a video on how to break off the euro lock so you can replace it. th-cam.com/video/eHvuD2PhK_0/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much, My husband tried to change our lock over and everything he looked at were complicated compared to your explanations. We finally got the job done.
The most informative video I've watch regarding door locks. Well done. No one really explains the reason for the little "bolt" which is above the Big bolt.
Hi Nicole, thanks so much. Your video was bloody BRILLIANT. easy to follow and absolutely saved me money I don't have because I did not need to be overcharged for a call out fee and the lock, by a locksmith. I can't thank you enough. God Bless
I literally did this last week and can confirm the instructions that come with it are pretty hard to get through! This video would have made it waaaaay easier!!
Thanks :) Hasn't actually solved my problem, I have no idea what my problem is, lock isn't working after installing. Still great to watch this to troubleshoot, cause instructions in lock pack are dismal! I've actually got my old lock back on now & found the reason it wasn't locking was the door has moved over time & so that little nob at the top doesn't have enough pressure on it from the striker plate to press it in enough to activate the door lock & so new lock had exactly the same problem as old one, so tip to anyone with a broken lock for no apparent reason, check the distance between the lock & door frame before going to the hassle of buying another one. I just needed to pack the striker plate to fix mine Exact replacement special ordered in by bunnings is about half the price of the one bunnings is now stocking to replace it/one in this video too, although that's the one I'm having some random issue with not working, maybe that's why they've gone with a different company now? dunno, but this video was good to troubleshoot & confirm I've done everything right with the install anyway, so no idea why the key & nib things won't turn enough to lock/unlock after installed
this could be My problem? I can't lock it with the key, but the inside lever locks it fine. i switched it with the back door assembly and now both don't work .. (key doesn't turn far enough) i'll try tape that small latch in to test it next, or perhaps the hole in the wood isn't deep enough for it. @NicoleHerrickDIY any ideas?
Hi, enjoyed your video. I have just built a new rear deck and had to rotate the security screen ( very similar to yours) 180 degrees so door will hinge from the opposite side. Only trouble is the door handle needs to rotate in opposite direction, one direction front door and the opposite for rear door. Do u have a fix for that?
Thanks Nicole. Really clear instructions. I have the same lock. However, The snib pulls out easily. Is that normal? There seems to be no way for it to stay in securely.
Do you mean in your current lock that is installed? If so then that’s not right, try taking the lock apart to see if something has disengaged or broken. If it’s a lock you have just purchased and you have not installed yet, then it may feel loose as the handle is designed to be installed in either of two directions. Be sure to follow the instructions and se the snib in the correct alignment at the right time as indicated. Hope that helps.
Unfortunately, Locks only keep honest people honest. In my opinion, the wood frame the keeper is attached to is fairly compromised. A fairly burly figure, or one with a crowbar could break that quite easily. A piece of mild steel 20mm wide, 3-4mm thick & a metre long, with .5m above the keeper & .5 below with 6-8 screws along it would reinforce the keeper area. I would actually take out the keeper wood screws & use two, 4-5 mm dia. countersunk bolts & drill right thru from the door side & thru the mild steel. If u don’t have some Colourbond Classic Cream paint then a test pot from the Hardware Store will be more than enough to hide the steel etc. Having said all that, ur real vulnerability at the front door is the side window. Smash it or cut it & in 10secs & “they” are in. Quickest easiest solution is a security camera linked to ur wi-fi & smart phone. I know this about fixing a lock & I found it really helpful after mine started not locking but u know, rabbit trails & one thought leads to another….😂
G’day Nicole, my inner mechanism cover plate was broken and when trying to get it out it fell down to the bottom of the door. Do you have any idea how I can fish it out or would you just leave it in there?
@@WilliamBillabong-by4cw the only thing I can think of to rescue it would be a telescopic magnetic pole. I’m not sure if the doorframe is magnetic as it’s aluminium so it should work. But if you don’t have one, no harm in leaving it in there.
I have changed the handle following the instructions and I can lock my door when it’s opened but when I close it I can’t lock it? It won’t turn all the way to lock?
Probably there is an obstruction to the main locking bolt after it’s hit the strike plate. Or your door may have an upper and lower locking bolt also, and if any are obstructed and can’t extend fully out, you won’t be able to lock the door.
Hi, I just installed my Rolltrak Hinged Screen Door Lock BUT its not locking went I turn the key you hear CLICK but screen door lock isnt locked?? Why is this happening I've pulled apart 5 times & I dont know the problem??
The main reason you replace the lock is that you have lost the keys do you know how to do it without the keys cause I've tried and can't do what you did here...
Oh good point. Sorry I’ve replaced many locks but never because of lost keys so I didn’t take this into consideration. I have checked a few other videos and they do involve some picking so unfortunately I can’t show that on my channel.

Handy repair Nic. How weird was the hole in the frame? Ever figure out what was going on there?
