      Hi Diy guy, nice and clear instructions..I had this happen to me and it is so easy for opportunists to snap a lock with no more than a pair of pliers and 30s to spare....had to replace all my locks...It can be a little more tricky on french doors as the screw on the 2nd door can be hidden..If you do have french doors also fit Patlocks for additional security..Make sure the Patlock is fitted properly with the anti pull out washer, maybe if you have french doors give that a go....keep up the good work.

    Great vid, We are just buying a villa in Spain and emigrating and this is on my list as the first job to do on 31st January - 3 star anti snap locks on a single key. I am also going to fit a few other bits recommended by a locksmith, petty crime such as burglary is quite common and squatters if you get them in for more than 48 hours pretty much have more rights than the homeowner.
    I am not sure what the 3 star markings actually signify but the ones I am after are the ones that after snapping a small, weak sacrificial portion at the front still need a key to operate them - some apparently snap further in and don't need a key when snapped even on high security rated locks.👍

      1 star is rated to withstand picking and drilling.

    Fitted a new cylinder lock but when locked as it looks on your video but the key slot is in a horizontal position even though the locks still works. Any suggestions. It’s an abus cylinder lock

    Definitely go for an ABS lock, got them on all my external doors inc the garage, and you a get them suited to just one key.👍

    You should also change the handle to a 3 star one too. The basic handles can easily be broken to give access to the lock barrel.

    • @TheDIYGuy1
      @TheDIYGuy1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Spot on. This is why a cylinder without anti snap mixed with most handles is such an easy target.

    The later Ultion models have any lock snapping cuts along the barrel that precisely stop this practice.

    I know the thumb turn ones are less safe, but in an emergency situation (such as a fire) it could be life saving to get out fast. I haven't got one fitted but was considering it, cos I'm forever fumbling about trying to find the key.

    Hi Bu, just want to point out a bit you got wrong, just for your information, the screw holding the euro lock in place is a phillips as you pointed out, then you got your screwdriver calling it a phillips, but sorry to say it was a pozi screwdriver, case of wrong driver for that screw. You can tell the difference, the pozi screw and driver have small wings between the 4 inserts and flat inserts and the phillips has no small wings and rounded inserts, hope this helps you to use the correct ends, specially on power tools, you can tell even more when using power, the bit keeps jumping out the screw and sounds like a machine gun, when you reach the end ir tightened.

    Ultion locks are the latest and most secure. They have an additional clamp that hold them in place that you can only access by removing the internal door handle/furniture.

    It should also be added, most thieves want to get into properties in the smallest time with little noise therefore without arousing attention. Lock snapping is one of the few methods that ticks all of those boxes. So having an anti-snap lock DOES prevent thieves from wanting to break into your house since other methods are often either time consuming or require loud attention-grabbing noises (such as a window getting broken). Also since most properties still don't have these anti-snap locks, it's less risky for thieves to abandon a property with an anti-snap lock and find another property that doesn't.
    I'm going to be replacing the locks on my house with these and encourage my parents to do the same!

    Lock snaping has been on youtube for years I first saw it in 2009 and went with a Mul-T-Lock Garrison Break secure that had the sacrificial joint however when I moved house I swapped out the locks for a much better lock by far and only a one star cylinder the EVVA EPS and a Brisant locklock security handle that actually locks the door from inside without the need of the key, though this back fired because the wife would lock me out if we had argued lol and my key was useless

    hmm.. well i have tried 4 kind of locks, but all worked just fine. nut i dont quite get that test you are showing, because ofcause it will breake. if you pushed the lock further in like they were when in installed in door to give support on the whole cylinder. it would *not Break*🤔

    • @TheDIYGuy1
      @TheDIYGuy1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Once the handle is snapped away then the cylinder will break in the same way shown in the video. Demonstrations of it done on a door can be seen on TH-cam

    Ultion locks have a high fail rate; they're just rebranded locks from Taiwan (Federal); Ultion did a good job with marketing them, but generally, I would say avoid them. I have replaced countless cylinders, and customers have been left locked out of their houses occasionally due to cores coming out of the cylinders. Yale and Ultion are 2 of the easiest locks to pick and are generally classed as beginner locks when learning to pick (search TH-cam). I would get the advice of a trained professional before ordering your own locks. There are much better cylinder options if you know where to look and you value security.

    Interesting to see international differences. I hated those locks when I lived in the UK & Italy, because a key can be required to exit, which is why it violates U.S. fire codes.

    Am I missing something here ? If the lock is correctly fitted, how do you get vice grips on the end of the lock when it is flush with the outside of the door ? 🤔

    • @TheDIYGuy1
      @TheDIYGuy1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Check out some demos of how it is done on a door here on TH-cam. Within seconds a pair of grips can be used to either snap or bend the handle away from the cylinder, this then gives enough movement to snap the lock cylinder.

      Criminals prise the door plate away that houses the barrel so that it exposes it more.
      The anti snap locks are misleading with the name because they’ll still be able to be snapped but they’re designed in a way to snap close to the front rather than the middle, that way the locking mechanism isn’t accessible like shown in the video

  • @LeeTillbury
    @LeeTillbury 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The cheap lock wouldn't be able to be bent and snapped like that so easily if it was( and is) held in place by the handle and door lock aperture.

    • @TheDIYGuy1
      @TheDIYGuy1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      People who do this snap the handle plate away leaving the barrel with plenty of space round it. It takes seconds to do that. They can then snap the barrel as shown
