    Huge fan of your videos. Please keep them coming. Simplicity is the best way to teach people and John does a great job at that.

    I'm glad I watched your video. When I changed the oil today. I bought the ATV from a woman who had the dealer change the oil. I found that the dealer in Arkansas installed the oil filter backwards. This is in spite of the quarter inch letters saying how to orient the filter in the housing. Fortunately, the Rancher was used very little before I changed the oil.
    This is why I change my own oil on all my vehicles!

    Thank you sir for your detailed, precise, hands on video on how to change the Honda Rancher oil and filter, including caveats to avoid potential, costly mistakes, some of which I could easily have made if I hadn’t seen and followed your video.

    Love your videos. Thanks so much for taking your time in showing us , in detail, what needs to be done. For some of us, it takes a little longer to understand the DIY of how to work on our own ATV's. I have very high anxiety, and your videos go slow and show what your doing. Thanks again for your help and time.

    After you change the oil, and while running, I would keep the side cover off so you can make sure there's no leaks after reinstalling the oil filter cover.

    Oil filter direction varies by model, TRX420FA model is opposite shown here. TRX420FA also has a flat cover plate with an arrow on it. Be careful and replace as removed.

    I bought a used 2018. The user manual says "3.8 US qt when also changing out the filter. I guess I'll need to ignore the book and start with 2-1/2 quarts and check and add as needed. I'm a bit concerned, because the dipstick shows too much oil in there now.

    • @jcattera
      @jcattera 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's confusing as hell isn't it?! I also have a 2010 Honda Rancher TRX420 4x4 and the owner's manual says 3.8 quarts, but it only needed 3qts with the oil filter change.

  • @ryanford7836
    @ryanford7836 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You said about 3 quarts in it but your link in the description only ships out 1quart. FYI

    In the video it shows the factory oil non syn as 10-30 but when ordering from your link it shows 10-40. does it matter which of the two oils 10-30 or 10-40 ?

    • @motyk344
      @motyk344 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      10w40 is more heat resistance and it is mor uniwersal for difrent climat.

    Does the Oil Filter Element comes with the little O ring attached to it (facing outwards when filter element is installed) or not?

    • @williammartin9714
      @williammartin9714 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sold separately. I know Honda says to replace the O-Ring every-time but they tend to last for awhile. Buy couple, just to have it on hand, inspect the O-Ring every-time, if all looks good simply reapply some engine oil on it and continue on.

    600miles or 100 hours or 12months seems like to much on a oil change atleast for my 300 Fourtrax 3 months seems like max life on the oil and that's not even riding it hard for 3 months same for my cousins 02 foreman

      It's truly not... Had mine changed four trips back and 31km remaining of 1000km, changed it again Saturday. It was really dark, and pretty new ATV.
      Also Honda manual says " When running in very dusty conditions, oil changes
      should be performed more frequently than specified in the
      maintenance schedule."
      Hey do what you think, it's your machine and if you want to be spending out the big bucks on repairs.... :p
