    Who else is glad Honda still makes a simple, bare bones model like this TRX420FM1? ...And what would you guys like to see Honda change next on this platform?
    Thank you again for all of the support by watching these videos, hitting the "like" button and sharing etc so I can continue making these videos! I really appreciate it guys...

      I mean…. To my knowledge Honda is the only major ATV manufacturer still making manual foot shift atvs. I know automatics are far more reliable now than they were say 20 years ago….. but a manual foot shift atv will literally last a lifetime for someone who simply uses it for utilitarian purposes. My dad is still running a manual 98 big bear. Pristine condition . Runs like a top.

    If Honda made a new adult sport quad, I’d come into the dealer and buy that and a new rancher or foreman. Really tempted to but Yamaha all around since they are the only ones who are smart enough to still make sport quads. Even if it’s only the 400x which I want for trails, that works for a lot of people. Come on Honda! Please don’t make the loyal buyers switch.

    • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hear ya man, there's still a market for them! It's not what it used to be, thanks to so many moving over to SxS units but there's still people out there buying sport quads. Heck, even if they just copy and pasted what they had without doing any new R&D and throw fuel-injection at them, they would sell. Again, I know it wouldn't be big numbers but make a small run of them and let people continue to buy Honda sport quads and get or keep them on a Honda, instead of going another route.
      I'm going to be in the market to pick up a used TRX450R / TRX400X within the next 6 months or so and deep down, I keep hoping they'll give me a reason to hold off and hop on something new, even though my wallet wouldn't like that as much as the used alternative lol!

      Yeah... it's a shame she doesn't come with a 12v as standard like the rest of them but that's there way of making the price difference between it and the Foreman make sense. Thankfully it's a super cheap upgrade though, even with OEM parts.

    While the IRS is more comfortable offroad i like having the solid rear axle. Switching it to 2WD gives it a nice sporty ride with minimal roll. Kind of like having the best of both.

    I got it 2014 that puppy runs like a tank. I don't know where they get there carry and Tow weights from but I regularly carry a man on the front a man on the back and a man on the seat and have no problem at all I also pull logs out of the Bush and I've often told trailers that were an excess £1500 up hills. • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah, IRS will 100% spoil you! They both have their pros and cons depending on what you'll be using it for but there's no denying that your back will "thank you" after a long day of trail riding with an IRS setup when compared to a SRA model.

      @@HondaProKevin That's for sure I use it for a little yard work and snow plowing but mostly pleasure riding , I'm not really into the deep mud but enjoy having the ability to get though it when it comes up on a trail , And I'm not looking for speed as much as I am reliability so getting a Honda was a no brainer , I got the foot shift in red but added the deluxe package dont think I have seen another one yet like it online or in person with that combo

    I’d like to see a better storage option under the front rack. Make it to where the front rack can swing up to one side while being held down by a rubber strap or a nut and bolt combo. Otherwise a pretty sweet machine

    • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like your thinking on the front rack being able to pivot like that! It'd definitely help with opening up ideas for storage there but then on the downside, they'd have to find a way to rearrange everything that's under there now. Honda needs to get creative though and figure out some more storage options as the Rancher hasn't had anything but the spot in the rear for decades and then they added that tiny spot up front which is a step in the right direction but still... It still baffles me as to why they haven't thrown the Foreman / Rubicon side pocket storage on the fender over to the Rancher but if I was a betting man, I'd say it's to have another reason for people to upgrade over to those models.

    Bought a 23’ model FM1. Love it so far. Seems peppier than my 08 rancher. That has 24,000 miles on it tho. I use them and don’t necessarily take care of them. Just good reliable machines on the farm. I own a BRP 570. I can’t say that for that machine. I can tell you all the repairs that the 570 requires 🙄

  • @Captain-rg8mv
    @Captain-rg8mv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I haven’t been too impressed with my 2022 Rancher as far as quality control. I had two missing clips, a missing grommet for the plastic and a bolt was cross threaded in the front when I was taking it apart to install the winch.

    • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh, hate to hear that man! I feel your pain on the cross threaded bolt, ran into one on my 2022 Grom and was ready to throw the bike across the garage lol. There's nothing more aggravating than running into stuff like that on a brand new machine.
      If you don't mind me asking, which grommet and clips were you missing? If I was a betting man, I'd wager the missing grommet was for the little black plastic cover on the front where you get to the coolant reservoir.

    • @Captain-rg8mv
      @Captain-rg8mv 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HondaProKevin ha, you know what that makes two grommets. I actually forgot about that one. When my son was looking it over he said dad this lid won’t stay closed and sure enough, the grommet was missing.
      But the grommet I remember was when I was taking the plastic off for running the wires for the winch and one of the rubber grommets on the right side simply wasn’t there. I was like wow this side came loose much easier, and that’s why. But yes for the price you pay for these one would expect all of the parts would be there.

      Oh yeah, they definitely add some weight and alter how the machine handles when compared to stock so people really need to take that into account when throwing stuff like this on their ATVs. The upside though, these won't beat you to death like some of the wild mud tires when you're on smooth terrain lol!

    I can not believe those wheels! Amazing! Tire technology for 4 wheelers must have seriously come a long way to be as big as the ones on the bike featured as well as light enough to look like awesome full size off road truck tires....but on a 420 ATV. This looks like a simple but nice all around bike for just about anybody. Middle of the road. That said I would like to see locking differential. I just don't trust the limited slip front difs after having a 350 Big Bear. As well the seat looks a little small or short I should say. I've never had any issue with a solid rear axle either when it comes to off road stuff. The lockable or attachable storage features are a great plus. Nice review! Thank you!

    • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're spot on bud, they've definitely come a long ways! It's wild to look back at how much things have changed in this industry over the decades.
      I'm right there with you, personally, I prefer to have a true locking diff option as I'm going to really push where it can go but most people that ride these things won't do anything hardcore enough to need more than a limited slip setup. I wish the Rancher had a locker but then that takes away the reason for people to upgrade and spend more money with Honda on the Foreman or Rubicon so I can understand why they haven't thrown one on these - yet. Spot on with the seat too, the FA5 / FA6 seat should be standard on all Ranchers but with the Rubicon's padding because it's something special when compared to the others. Never thought I'd be at a point in my life where seats make a big difference lol but they do!
      Thank you! These take a lot of time to put together so I really appreciate the kind words...

      @@HondaProKevin Wow! Thank you for your response! Yeah I remember getting ATV magazine in the mail and it was easily the best thing to look forward to as a kid next to the motorcycle and car magazines I managed to save up for. I remember when Polaris came out with their Sportsman 500 and it was groundbreaking but then Arctic Cat had a 500 but wasn't as well received. Then...came the Yamaha Grizzly! We had a friend of the family who was an old bachelor from Ontario bring his bike down to us rednecks in the Maritimes and boy us kids thought it was just the beezneez. Anywho, I haven't kept up with the 4wheeler world since I was 15 or 16. Since dad got a 2018 Foreman I've startled to check in from time to time. I really like the little side by sides from Honda with the little truck dump. As well, I remember the Honda Odyssey from the 80s but I was too young and now theyre essentially making those but with of course one extra seat and in some cases 3 extra. It's clear you put a lot of work into your videos and glad I found your channel! All the best!

    It's funny that Honda is putting the cool colors like the blue and tan on models that nobody wants. I'll never have the ES DCT stuff. That's just more that can go wrong and it's not needed at all. They don't even have those colors on the 4x4 EPS foot shift models. The dealership near me has a red basic 4x4 Foreman and they want $9500 for it. This is nuts.

      @@HondaProKevin I am now riding a 2012 Honda 250 Recon without the 4X4 option. I added an aftermarket winch to it. I only needed the winch once. My son got stuck in a big snow bank and had to drag it out. It fell through the snow into a small ditch that he didn't know was there. I don't think the 4X4 option would have gotten it out of that one. That goodness for the winch. My son is currently purchasing this model. He should have it within the next couple of week. We go camping together a long in the high mountains. Now he won't have to be riding behind me on mine.

    way too much stuff has been added = an over complicated machine that was once a better alternative.
    fuel injected? sounds like a cool idea - we shall see how long that lasts.
    I can fix a carb but cant fix a computer controlled device. (shucks) its new technology. ;)
    I got one & do like the footshift - it works
    would like a recoil starter as well, But its not AT or ES - roll starting this manual Rancher might be possible. :)
    actually I did like the recoil starter on the 2005 grizzly 660 [surprised it started so easy, but its AT and too complicated with a belt that needs replaced.
    had a belt on Snow machines which were good, but learned to carry a spare for bush repairs. (beats walking)
    so bought a new 22 rancher 420 and it seems to be built well.
