I've loved both of my Poulan Pro series chainsaws. No, they're no Stihls, but I've got 2 good saws for less than the price of one great saw, and I don't cut for firewood, just to clean up around my property when I need to. Great video on the maintenance required to keep these running! I'm working now on a carb kit on my older PP4218A now, carb was still good and clean, but fuel lines were shot, and $20 replaces everything. Can't beat that.
Thank you for making this video and for taking the time to get the camera set up so the view was good. Good pacing and sharing your thought process as you went along 10/10
The saw cleaned up really nice. I was glad to see you testing the primer before you put it together. Years ago I didn't do that and the lines were crossed lol. Nice job Alex 🔧👍
Thats a nice little saw now Alex! The worst part about saws is how dirty they are to work on. You cleaned that up nicely and i noticed when you were running the saw on the cement it had a nice oil stripe on the cement, so the chain oiler is working fine. Good camera view and audio sir!👍🇺🇸✌Roger
Yea they are usually a dirty machine, and they really let this one get bad before leaving it. I was really happy to get it going and cleaned the ports and channel in the bar to make sure it would oil properly. Certainly slung some nice chain oil on that concrete haha. Thank you for the support.
Appreciate you making this. I got hung up on one part, and your video helped out. I've never worked on a carb or a two stroke before. Hint: Ethanol free gas only in small engines. The difference in reliability is night and day. I inherited this saw from my father, so I had to deal with the issues that ethanol causes for small engines. When feeding the fuel lines into the tank, I sprayed a touch of wd40 from the top side and it helped out quite a lot. Before I did that, I kept tearing of the tapered line when trying to pull it through. $20 for the carburetor, $20 for some 12" needle nose pliers(nothing I had would reach). 2hrs to learn something that I can now do in 20-30 minutes. I also know vastly more than I did prior to how a two stroke carb setup works. Repair would have been $100+. New chainsaw would be around $150.
That’s wonderful. It really is fun to learn and feel the success in the end. It’s not easy if it’s your first time but after that it gets easier and easier. Always something to learn. My goal is to help people fix their equipment and show some cool projects along the way. Thank you so much. Yes ethanol free only is the way to go. 😎🇺🇸
Right! I was surprised the cheapest one I found for this saw was right around $20 though. Usually I can get one for around 10-15 tops. Thanks for stopping by 🙏
Awesome job with this saw bro. You definitely brought it back from grave yard. It’s a shame people let equipment get like this. I’m also a small engine mechanic. It’s such a great sense of accomplishment fixing something that was out in the weather and bringing it back to life. Hope everything’s OK. Haven’t seen you post a video in a while. Can’t wait for your next video.
I've got one of these,, no it's not my Stihl 460, but it doesn't try to be. I picked it up from my neighbor for 75 bucks, and have been very pleased. Starts very easy 2-3 pulls, vs 6-8 for the arm, wrist and shoulder pain maker.
I have one just exactly like that and I'm actually working on one for a neighbor of mine has the same one it runs but I'm having a hard time adjusting the carb on it feeling I might have to replace the carb on it good job saving this one Alex
Thank you John. I wish you the best of luck on it. Not too bad of a saw. They just get used and abused and left with fuel most of the time and earn a bad rep. Hope all is well your way 🤘
14:49 on my pp4218A the fuel lines were OG running through the opposite holes into the tank, but the larger diameter line was still connected to the OG fuel filter, just through the other hole. Guess the saw won’t know the difference.
Looks good. Just got doing a couple of these. You can find some good deals online for carbs for them. The 2 I just done (Poulan Pro PP4218A) had the same model number but there was a 3 year difference between them. The only difference on the carbs was the the throttle hook up. 👍
I keep all the gaskets and diaphragms for lots of 2c stuff and tons of different fuel hose There so easy to kit the carbs and replace hoses it’s unreal I buy them every chance I get and fix and sale, even got many other high dallor ones for sale but I use the poulan
Yea I think people just buy them to trash them and they get a bad rep. Honestly I’ve seen some really good reviews on this saw as well. I think most of it has to do with how you care and maintain. Really appreciate the continued support 🤘
Theses are good saws if taken care of and good fuel oil mixture 45-1 is what I use, plus I ideall it tell warmed up and let it ideall for 10 minutes before shutting it down 11 years old now
I have Poulan Pro (2013) in my workshop. Honestly it's junk (POS). My advise is get rid of it. I haven't ever use gas with ethanol. Used Amsoil 2 cycle from the git go. It developed an issue where it's hard to start and won't idle correctly. The problem is it has manufacturer defects. The worst air filter system along with other issues. The reason for the poor performance is a defective seal found behind the clutch. There's a video that totally explains everything. I decided to just give it away. It's not worth the headache headache dealing with it. Most likely that seal isn't even available anymore. Husqvarna manufactured that junk. That's too bad because a Husqvarna saw is a good saw. Yours may be one of the lucky ones that that sealed hasn't failed. I know a dozen people that junked their Poulan Pro saws and bought Styl, Echo or Husqvarna. Some even went cordless.
So aggravating. This has happened several times. Trying to get it sorted out and getting an external mic adapter for Christmas. Thanks for stopping by brother.

Thank you Artie. Yea I have made the same mistake with my Poulan wild thing a long time ago with the primer. I learned my lesson on that one :)

Well done, those Chinese carbs always save the day..

The 460 is a great saw but theses get it done and are worth the money to replace fuel lines etc

Woo-hoo ya got a runner 🐓👍
Right!!! Super happy to see this come back to life after being left for so long. Thank you so much for the support 💪💪

Awesome. Thank you for the information on that. I’m sure that I will come across more of these saws since they are so popular.
I keep all the gaskets and diaphragms for lots of 2c stuff and tons of different fuel hose

@@philliphall5198 same here. Have a box of old carbs. They come in handy.
Nice job Alex, those saws catch a bad rep but as long as its running and cutting its a good one.
Yea I think people just buy them to trash them and they get a bad rep. Honestly I’ve seen some really good reviews on this saw as well. I think most of it has to do with how you care and maintain. Really appreciate the continued support 🤘
You're exactly right brother and anytime, I really enjoy your channel.
They are good home saws and well worth spending 20 bucks on every 3/4 years, weak point is the cheap fuel lines
Nice job
Thanks!
Thank you, sir.

11 years old now
I need that plastic arm/cam on the throttle butterfly
She runs nice!
Thanks brother. Should do a homeowner a good job limbing or cutting up some wood here and there. Thanks for stopping by.
I just got through replacing a carb on a Stihl FS 55 r straight shaft weed eater found the replacement carb,s on Amazon it is as a fun job (not ,).
I had done one on a fs90r and i remember it being a pain. I’m not really big into fixing 2 stoke equipment. Just had to have the value to me to fix.
@@freedommowers420 i.know what you mean

Have to love the corrupted files. 🤦🏻♂️

Are you willing to cooperate with us?
Seems they all have the same problem with fuel stuff
One brand no better than another
Old carburetor may have worked just by fix fuel lines
Asking a lot of questions for an instructional video. not helping.
Sorry I wasn’t helpful.
