    Wow. The only guy that wears a white linen long sleeve dress shirt to tear down and replace a carburetor on TH-cam. Sweet. Great instructional video sir.

    This is the best of the Poulan how-to videos. OP describes key things, including the correct way to replace the primer hoses.

    I have the exact same saw, 18" bar. It just keeps going, cuts like a beast. My sister gave it to me years ago when her husband passed away. My favorite saw. I did rebuild the original carb last year, was a little bit of a pain.I got a new carb on Amazon, wasn't fitting right, a piece of junk, so i got a rebuild kit. The real fine little screen inside the carb was blocked. Great video. Keep that saw as long as you can, it almost puts my Stihl to shame.

    I REALLY appreciate you posting this video. I have the exact same model purchased in 1997. Model 2900 though, not 2500. So I expect it isn't exact. lol. Anyway. I used it for about 2 hours in 1997 to cut up a downed tree. It was stored (mostly likely with gas) and now I can't even get gas into the cylinder, I pull and pull intentionally trying to flood but the spark plug is bone dry. I bet a clogged fuel line or a pinched fuel line. Anyway, I hate not to fix it since it is Made in USA and has very little use. It looks like a New old stock chainsaw. I haven't broken it down yet but this video will be a tremendous help. Your video has great angle, light, sound etc. Your narrative as to what you are doing is very understandable without a lot of gibberish. I like how you give a precise step by step instruction without skipping anything. WELL DONE SIR. Thumbs up !

      Thank you for the kind words If I had the saw I would first remove the plug and put a squirt of gas directly into the cylinder through the plug hole in the head reinsert the plug and try to start it again if it runs at all check the fuel line inside the gas tank I have had this break off before and the same symptoms you describe occurred. If your line is broken contact ,me again and I will post a video on replacing the thing as it can be quite frustrating to deal with this type of line. By the way, you are the very first commenter I have ever had and your kind words are inspirational Thank you again.

      Mine has the same problem what I found out is that the ethanol they put in gas nowadays will ruin the fuel lines if left for long periods they literally fell to pieces when I started diagnosing it
      Dont leave gas in it and store it.

      I'm 5yrs late on this video, but I have to say you Sir did a fantastic job explaining how to do a carb swap. I also have a Poulan saw but I have the 42/18. I gotta tell ya, it's a pretty awesome saw. It calls for 50:1 but I run 40:1 True-fuel. It has never seen a drop of pump fuel. I never fun ethanol fuel in my equipment. Well only in my tractor but it has a shut off on it and I turn it off and run the fuel out of the carb. Running 40:1 in my opinion gives more protection. I absolutely love my Poulan saw, every one says that they have trouble starting it back up after running it for awhile and shutting it off. Before I started it for the first time I regapped the plug to 30 thousands and it starts every single time. I'll never get rid of it. Maintenance is the key to equipment. Awesome video and you got me as a subscriber

    Thanks for the video - very helpful as I have the exact same saw. My original fuel line crumbled (previous owner probably used ethanol fuel) so I have to figure out how to replace the entire line from the tank. Hope you kept that original Walbro carb - you'll probably end up rebuilding it (it's easy) and it'll be better than that Chinese replacement!

  • @andybecker2693

    When you took it apart previously you had pinched the fuel line and that’s why it didn’t start. Now it has a problematic unbranded Chinese carb instead of the Walbro that it came with.

    Thanks man for taking the time to do publish this. There is a metal plate thingy between the carb and the engine. I was hoping to see how that is installed. I think I have it right but I'm not sure. It looks like it can be installed in either rotation. Also it has some extrusion where the bolts pass through. I believe they point towards the engine side. My saw runs fine until it is hot and then I cannot get it to start. If I do get it to start it has to run fast or it stalls. I'm wondering if that plate I installed is on wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    • @thesaltypaultard1271
      @thesaltypaultard1271  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont have this metal plate on my saw. If you have spark when it's hot the carburetor is probably at fault. The cheap knockoff I bought has sure been temperamental. I'm constantly adjusting it. If it's starting and running when cold I would bet you installed it correctly

    • @Wingloader
      @Wingloader 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thesaltypaultard1271 Correct. Runs great until it is hot. The other problem is the stupid plastic thingy's on the adjustment screws prevent you from actually CHANGING THEM. Uhg. I'm going to just remove them. I am so glad I watched this. I was about to go buy a new piece of crap. I know better now. You get what you pay for.

    Did the new carb come with a Husqvarna attached to it? They don’t call them “pull-on” for nothing Green chainsaws have a bad rep.
