      Chess youtubers lowkey have it easy, at least on the production side. Literally all of them seem to just use their stream overlays for most of their videos (GothamChess, Agadmator, Eric Rosen, Hikaru, Chess Vibes etc.), whereas most other youtubers have to edit their videos down from large recordings with scripts and B-roll. Not that there's anything wrong with that, they all still offer great content.

    Eric as a currently ~1200 rapid player, you inspire me to expand my opening repertoire. As white I'll always love the scotch, but you make me want to actually sit down and learn more openings, especially gambits. I've played the Danish a few times and it's so fun

    • @51monw
      @51monw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In fairness your opening repertoire sounds better than Eric's fun repertoire. At your rating I learnt the ideas behind the Ruy Lopez Exchange and won a load of games because at that rating the black players didn't know how to fight back with the two bishops, but the Scotch sounds more fun, I think learning 3 or 4 good opening properly at that level guarantees you start ahead. Endgame studies and tactics is what made the next leap for me, my tactics still let me down (sigh).

    • @scoutbane1651
      @scoutbane1651 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a 1600 the opening actually needs the least time imo. You should be doing tactics, blunder checks, improving your positional understanding, drilling endgames etc. Have a few openings where you can get into a comfortable position and aren't too complex, and you're fine. You learn more openings with more variations once you get better but as a beginner there's a dozen more important things. Oh, and for the love of god please don't play the stafford it's so ridiculously easy to beat with the d3 Be7 system. I win ~85% of my games in it. Eric would still whoop my ass with it, but it's just bad if your opponent knows a few moves of theory that are *reeeeeally* simple. It's fine as a complete beginner and as a meme but as a better chess player this really shouldn't be in your repetoar outside of maybe blitz and bullet.

    Hi Eric. I made it this far! My favorite gambit was Englund - always Englund! About a year ago when I was first messing around with chess online, I "invented" the Englund just because I was annoyed at all the other ways my 1. d4 games were going as black lol. Basically, I just played it blind having never looked at or heard of the opening before, out of stubborn fondness for 1... e5. I was like 600 at the time - of course so was my opponent - and I ended up winning. I'm still only rated 1100 or so, and I probably have about 70% success with Englund to about 30% getting punished. I'm always thrilled to see what someone who actually knows what they're doing can do with it lol!

    I love the sunglasses! You should wear them when saying “oh no my queen”. They can’t read your eyes. Great vid!

    1:16:52 was a serious blunder, loses to bishop g4 threatening mate and queen capture. So glad to find this move

      Ne2 and change queens. But obviously white will be loosing

    Eric Rosen makes this look so easy. Whenever I try this, I end up blundering my queen or king in the first 15 moves.

    Hey, I made it to the end. I witnessed the Everything Gambit; my cup of tea.

    at 1:14:33 when white gets stuck there's quite a cool defense, with Ne5 (which can't be taken by the knight bc mate), still obviously a tough position!

      But it can be taken by the bishop

      @@TheRomanianWolf then Qxd7, Rxd7, Bxc6, bxd6, and white has Bxe5 with equal material

    I liked the transpose into a Tennison, I'll have to play that one myself.
