"I have to calm down," Eric says in the most calm voice possible.
“Sometimes the best winning strategy is just to not lose” couldn’t say it better myself Eric.
4:13 not only that you missed pawn, he could fork your queen too lol
I was looking for this
dohhh! 😳
Thank you I thought I was losing my mind
Yeah I came to see this, funny how anyone can miss that any level.
Didnt catch this, was it at the exact time you point it out?
QG3 blundering Ne2+ had me out of my chair in anticipation
"Yeah, sometimes the best strategy is to just not lose."
~ Eric Rosen
😂
What a great line.
LOL I love his simple quotes... The actual quote: "Yeah, sometimes the best winning strategy is just ta NOT lose." 26:05
My advice for the French. The light squared bishop isn't just bad because it's passive, it's also bad because attempts to trade it off are usually even worse than letting it be bad. Trading it off on a6 pulled the knight away from instead piling on d4. I'm not a titled player so I might not know the French at this level, but I'm a huge nerd for French theory. Your video on playing the French Exchange with Bd6, Ne7, etc. queenside castle has won me nearly every game I've had with it, including a win against a titled player. I've adopted it as my pet opening and have found a ton of killer attacking lines in it.
Tell that to cagnus marlsen🙂
My advice for the French. Ne laissez pas vos baguettes rassis!
@@TamDNB Google translated this as, "Don't let your chopsticks go stale." Lmao
Nerd
There are some lines where whites lightsquared bishop is the main attacker. If you can trade that off you can kinhside castle and win on the queenside before white kingsides attack connects.
That Stafford was delicious
I refuse to believe that 4:12 and 21:03 where played by the same person 😆
Great video as always!
Welcome to chess.
I'm 55 and have only played neighbours at chess over a drink or two (around 30 games), I've just started to play again (begin). I stumbled across Anna Cramling and started watching many others. I watch Pia evaluate Anna's games and it's like trying to watch a pair of socks in a washing machine. Then I saw Eric and WOW, what a lovely calm demeanour and clear soft voice, he is just so down to earth and unrushed, the kind of person you need in an emergency.
What confuses me though is how Eric seems to slow down time, he sips his tea, plans his moves and forewarns us about tricks and pitfalls and still seems to have 5 mins left. Meanwhile in my universe: I've castled and I'm frantically scanning for the forthcoming zombie attack and there are open routes everywhere. Then it's my move and the board shrinks and I'm under house arrest and the clock is ticking faster and faster and faster, and I'm hoping I am not being streamed in some "How to beat an Idiot" video
NOW though I've learned to calm down a little more and I can see the value of squares as well as pieces, it's a bit like Scrabble and having a triple letter square. In just over a few weeks I don't just see pieces (32), I see bus routes, journey times and rest stops, It's amazing.
Thanks, Eric, you are wonderfully kind for sharing your talent and personality with us in such an entertaining way. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Yes, finally! Eric plays the Bird's!
Thumbnail POV: an otherwise very whimsical wizard excitedly explains exactly how he'll kill you.
0:10 "The plan is to play chess"
Mission accomplished lmao
Thought this was interesting: At 36:29 in the Bird game, Eric correctly predicted Rf1 check, but his rook on A3 was hanging. If black takes the rook (which Stockfish says is the best move), Eric would have Ne4 discovered check. From that point, any of the 3 king moves leads to a royal fork, and blocking with either knight leads to a (messy) forced mate. Watching the video, I saw the hanging rook but not the crushing follow-up.
at 37:00 hahahah eric follows the principle "if you see a normal mate, look for the more complicated one" .... if queen blocks you just take with queen and it's mate on the spot, but nope, rook mate taking advantage of the pin, yup that's better
I mean.... They're both mate in 1 so it doesn't really matter
That last game was like Indiana going back for his hat 😂
"Sometimes the best winning strategy is to not lose." -Eric Rosen 26:04
😂😂😂
Always happy to see there's new content of yours when I open the TH-cam app 😊
Awesome video Eric. You are incredible! Nice tournament.
Thanks Eric! I've watched hundreds of your videos, and I don't usually leave comments, but the way you pulled the rabbit out of the hat at the end with only two seconds left..... I think your new nickname should be " the Houdini of chess". Nice job man.
Wooo congrats on the win!
One of your greatest videos!
Great watch! Intense
Loving the ambulance emoji behind your name xD
Openings that aren't named after places or people:
The Egg
The Hippo
The Halloween Gambit
The Crab
The Vampire Gambit
The Hillbilly Attack
Any more?
The cow opening
Bongcloud. The King's Gambit and Queen's Gambit are named after pieces, not people. (Accelerated) Dragon if you ignore that its full name includes Sicilian.
Giuoco Piano (and Pianissimo), Monkey's Bum. Didn't Eric once play the beach café (or does that count as a place anyway)?
Amazing!
"Music to my eyes" 😂
Dude, you gotta go for the: Broken Cats Paw, The inverted Avalance, The Pringle defense, The drowning knight attack.
Ahhh, the Hikaru-Kann!
>2/3M subscribers: congratulations Eric! You've earned this success.
Felicitaciones Erick
1:01:45 ...neveh blitz into Brooklyn unprepared if you know what's good fuh you. 😳🤣
Thank you for a long video!! It's been forever since you've posted one.
I actually post a bunch of long videos here: youtube.com/@EricRosenExtra
You better got those 100 subs for winning the tournament.
21:15 nice find with g4!!
queen trap out of nowhere!
Plays the Jobava-London, later plays bread and butter London, immediately goes into the Jobava-London.
When i saw the thumbnail i clicked fast as i could. TH-cam didnt even finish loading
4:13 i thought i was missing a deep line
42:33 Hikaru-kann Opening
I'm still shocked at how many people castle into the Stafford. You don't need to learn any theory, just don't castle and you'll be much safer than if you castled kingside. Then just don't leave your queen undefended on d1 and you'll be golden. Even Qf3 is very playable.
Congrats on winning.
WTF??? At 4:12 opponent could've forked your Queen and King with his knight on f2. Unbelievable that he didn't see it.
Ah yes, the world famous Bird's Opening: Hobbs Gambit
nice chess game...
nice openings display
Hey Eric, How about a series to achieve every trophy in rosenscore ?
4:14 Opponent missed royal fork!
Eric hung his queen in the second game but the opponent missed Ne2+
Eric, you are so unfit. I watched the whole stream and my heart rate never went above 60. 😅
Love your incredible speed and combination attacks.
Eric You are amazing , how do you do that?
Nice blunder on the second game
MATE IN THE CORNER! 34:46
King takes?
Rook takes bishop first?
In the bird game, at 36:16, a mate was missed. 36 - Qxd5ch, Qc6, 37 - Knc5ch, Kc7, 38 - Ra7ch, Kb8, 39 - Rb7ch, Kc8, 40 - Qxc6ch, Kd8, 41 - Qd7mate. What a game nonetheless!
57:34 I think you were threatening to win the c-pawn with your rook, but then they attacked your queen so doesn’t work
Oh yes my Egg 🥚 good lord Eric you are a fiend 🙇♂️
Trompowski? Am I watching Gotham? 😅 15:20
9:51
- Beautiful like 100% or 0%?
- Less than 3
Your game 3 opponent must’ve been so confused. 😂 but they did play a Bird so they are a little off lol
Day 4 asking Eric to say "bon appetit" in a video (I always watch your videos when I'm having dinner)
1:00:23 does Rb5 trap the queen?
14.Rb5 Nxd4 looks tricky. If 15.Rxd5 Nxe2+ 16.Bxe2 exd5 Black has won an exchange and a pawn. Or 15.cxd4 Bxb5 16.Bxb5 it's R&P for B&N. There's probably much more that I'm not seeing though.
@@RGP_Mathsah okay I missed Nxd4. Thanks
Is the Grob always that easy? I had never heard of it. Seems like an opening I should learn...
2nd game move 15 Qg3 blunders a queen. Good thing your opponent missed the fork.
Was waiting for a blackmar diemer gambit, it's my favorite opening
Well I saved your favorite opening for the final game!
@eric-rosen yeah I've been playing chess since I was 2 and I just love how quick the opening is, especially when you queen side castle so the rook eyes down the d file in the center
he Erik hang is Queen in Game 2 at 4:13
I should have read comments. Others saw what I saw at 4:12. :)
Mate in 3 at 54:14
A non-pawn creature is discovered 😮
tasty tourney
In game you can press "z" to toggle zen mode, I think
4:12 In game 2: 15. Qg3 didn't that hang your queen? Opponent didn't see it but that should have been winning for black right? Or am I not seeing something?
4:14 doesn’t Qg3 lose a queen after Ne2+? Maybe you see something I didn’t. I suck, I’m only 900 Elo Rapid but as soon as you moved it I was questioning
@ 4:12 am i seeing a queen king fork wrong??
Combining the pin and the fork, so this is a pork
Qg3 ah yes, OH NOOO
These thumbnails 😂
I thought if you press "z" it toggles zen mode on and off
930
@40:55 Why is Eric allowed to have chat tell him info like that? Isn't that kind of unfair?
41:37 He goes over it and it’s not a forced mate. I personally don’t see it as unfair because after he read the comment it was like 10 moves past and he said it “looked close to mate.” I generally trust eric to know the position more than chat.
@@Sploooshen Maybe not in this specific scenario, but you do see how having 100 (or how ever many) viewers giving commentary on a chess game that is CURRENTLY being played is unfair right?
@@Sploooshen also what do you mean "better than chat". Why couldn't people just have the game in an engine live?
@@3TQHAJSHNQ If Eric wanted to cheat he would just use the engine. Anyone in chat is free to ask a question. If someone in chat kept giving the top engine move sprinkled in his games. They would be muted or banned. And that’s if eric actually uses that chatters move. Normally he makes a move then looks at chat. Every top chess streamer does that. It does at first seem like an advantage, but it just isn’t. It’s more distracting than anything.
at 20:28, could you have just taken the knight with your queen?
lol nvm queen would take back with check, don't let me be your chess coach
I'm playing 1+0 bullet and I keep losing on time.
I sure hope this thumbnail I’m getting is part of A|B testing because my lord 😭
Please don't insult my backward spawn, i beg you.
Second
Frist
congrats!
second?
Hello Eric can you DoorDash me a burrito I’m starving
Diemer was a Nazi, maybe not honor him and just call it blackmar gambit :)
It's okay, Eric. 😂 You didn't have to remove the 'heart' from my comment about the Lichess devs in your other video 🤣. Everyone knows what they're like. Don't bow to pressure. You gave that heart to my comment and then when that little white knight comes bustling in with his nonsense defense of them, you removed it. Come on, have more spine lol. Lichess aren't good devs. They're like, "We're free, we did our bit a decade ago when we launched. You lot are on your own now, bugs and all. We're done. We're out. Later." It's just a fact about them.
You blundered m8 sgainst Beautiful Solitude
Beautiful_solitude won the battle only to lose the war. Tragic
