My games are similar to Eric's, with the only difference being that I usually go for the "oh no my King" tactic. Unfortunately lichess doesn't let me finish the gambit afterwards. Curious.
0:59 Surprisingly, black can still play 8. f3 exf3! 9. Qxd4?? fxg2. And the best line for white (according to the computer) is 10. Nd5 cxd5 11. Bxd5 exd5 12. Qe3+ Be7 13. Qf3 gxh1=Q 14. Qxh1 and black has overwhelming compensation (around -8). 9. Nxf3 Qxh4+ 10. Nxh4 gives -2.5 for black.
That last opponent was so rude, trying to flag your opponent and instead of accepting defeat and resigning when Eric had mate in 1 leaving the game wasting 30 seconds of Eric's time like a child
Hey Eric, doubt you'll see this buried amongst the other comments but thought I'd say thanks for the incredible content and for playing for fun. It's so great to see someone who plays chess to enjoy it and doesn't put other, lower rated players down. You're very wholesome and I can't wait to see more of your content! My favourite opening is the Giuocco Piano: Pianissimo (it's pretty much the only opening I can play well past move 6) so if you know of any gambit surrounding that I'd be really interested to see them! I saw your Traxler video, that was brilliant as well :)
@Dominic Amoe I usually see hanging pieces. My issue lies mostly with forgetting about some weird move combination that the opponent has that puts me in a losing position.
It really tells alot about the IM norm and what strong players can do, I mean a 2000+ is no joke even on Lichess (well closely around 2000 it really depends) and he is basically crushing them using really dubious openings . But once you realize the 600 points gap between them you can realize the journey one has to engage in to go from "good" to "strong".
@@Moorb0y52 yes and practically it gets exponentially more difficult to improve the stronger you are, so it’s even more impressive when you look at it that way

I thought of similar, but i didn't find it pity. Seemed more like kitten from hell stealing dog-food. Or like: racer driving eyes closed, "oh no, cliff", 10s later... "let's try the parachute".

Because if exf3 Qxd4 then fxg2 and white can't stop the pawn promotion because of the black knight but when black plays exf3 then white has Nxf3 and white is still in the game
The 3rd of September happens on a Friday on repeating years separated by differences in the pattern (starting from 2021) 6, 5, 6, 11. So the years 2021, 2027, 2032, 2038, 2049, 2055, 2060, etc. all have September 3rd on a Friday. This means that on average every 7 years September 3rd falls on a Friday, so you were right about 1 in 7 lol :D
Probably the easiest way to calculate this is to just know that there are seven days in a week and because there is a set amount of days in a set amount of years, neither of which happen to be divisible by 7 (1461 days in 4 years), over a long enough period of time youll have pretty much exactly one in seven years where September 3rd is a friday edit: the way i wrote it makes it look much more complicated than it really is lol
oh I thought it was about Friday 13th ! I once heard (and maybe double checked...) that those are more frequent than average (in the current calendar, 1582 - 20xx ... that was maybe ~10 - 20 years ago but might still apply ...)
Oh, God, the position at 1:00:47 made me so happy. It feels like justice when your opponent tries to flag you in a position that's completely drawn and walks into a mate. 😂
Had to start over to pick my favorite. I'm going with the "Oh no my knight" Stafford/Traxlerish whatever Party. I liked how you were able to reel him back in with the light squared bishop.
Since I did make it to the end, my favourite gambit is King's Gambit, but I also play the Englund and the Stafford. I used to play the Blackmar-Deimer-Rider Gambit too, when I was lower rated but people don't really fall for it anymore.
I really missed these videos! 3 days later, finished watching. Gibbins-Wiedenhagen was my favorite. I don't really want a 12 hr stream although, y'know, if that makes you happy... I'm much happier with these 1~2 hr at a time streams. Even had this been like "trying to play slow positional chess in a single arena" that'd've still been great.
21:36 funny the opponent didn't resign immediately, probably thinking Eric will go "oh there's funny line" and not capture the queen for the sake of memes.

I must say I didn't remember the variation you played (move 17), tho I did see it once, as I can recall it. Thank you for reminding me of it, I'll make use of it in game!
Hey Eric, crazy tactic. First game, (hillbilly vs caro) 8th move, f3 doesnt work, since the pawn isn't actually pinned to the queen. If black takes exf3 and you take the queen, black keeps on with fxg2, and your rook is dead, and black makes a new queen. There are some weird engine defences that give up a lot of material to get back on the diagonal just so black cant keep the extra queen, but still, it's around -8 with best play, and -4 with natural play. Just a heads up! Hard to see/evaluate in 3 min blitz. Keep up the great content!
I made it… I didn’t really have a favorite. You make all of them fun. But the weird one was rather entertaining. I think the thing I enjoy most about watching you play is that you genuinely have fun and are good at including others in that. Thanks
Because if the king takes that knight, you can see white’s queen is hiding behind his own bishop. Eric can move his bishop anywhere and it would be check. Eric would take the c7 pawn which would attack the black queen but it would also be check, so he would win the black queen since black would have to spend his turn moving the king or blocking the check with the black knight or bishop.
MY GOODNESS!!! At 1:14 there is exf3!! and after Qxd4 there is simply fxg2 and there is no way to prevent the pawn from safely promoting to a gueen and taking the rook!!! An absurd 14 point swing of material is simply unstoppable!!!!

10:04 Ne5 is such a beautiful move that just made my day. Double attack the on the queen, discovered attack on the bishop, skewering the other bishop through the queen and threatening Rxc1+ which skewers the took. It’s a shame that white resigned so we couldn’t see the position play out but it kind of adds to the impact of the move that white resigned after having a comfortable advantage 1 turn earlier.
