  • In a scary moment in their game against the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young sprained his right ankle and had to miss the rest of the game. His xrays were reported to be negative, but we still don't know the full extent of this injury and how much time Trae Young might miss. In this video we'll review Trae Young's injury mechanism and talk about lateral ankle sprains!

I recently discovered this channel and I instantly subscribed! Thank you for these interesting and extremely well explained videos.
I'm not sure if what I'm going to suggest is part of the scope of this channel, but I think it would be a nice idea to see a video about the life threatening injuries to the neck sustained by Clint Malarchuk and Richard Zednik. Considering how graphic they are, probably is not necessary to show them completely, but it would be interesting to know which kind of first aid and treatment they received to contain the massive hemorrhage. In Malarchuk's case, there are claims that a paramedic had to put all his weight over Malarchuk's collarbone to slow his metabolism and slow the bleeding, is there any truth to that?
Thanks for the quality content Doc!

I was wondering if you could make a video on the impact the shoes these athletes play in have on their propensity of injury, and the best shoes to play basketball in? Thank you and blessings.

Played basketball for a while, have had these type of contacts and natural reactions usually take me down and to the player falling and avoiding injury, can this be taught to players? I feel that too often the players remain upright and apply too much pressure to the area by trying to hold standing positions instead of letting the body fall to the opposite direction

Hello Brian, I have a question for you regarding this same exact type of injury. First, a little backstory:
So I've been victim of this injury countless times, and I've heard that each time it happens, the odds of it happening again increase. I've had 3-5 tiny fractures of the ankle in the same way that Trae injured his ankle, and they've all happened on my right ankle, and that's not counting all the other less severe instances of the injury happening. But nearly every time that I had this injury, I didn't get it checked out, because the pain and discomfort usually just went away by itself. (Does this have anything to do with the injuries happening throughout my teen years, and my bones still being developed throughout the period?) The most recent fracture of the ankle came a couple years ago during my senior year of HS midway through my tennis season, which sidelined me for three weeks. Ever since I came back, I'm now required to wear an ankle brace whenever engaging in physical activities (basically whenever I leave the house). A good doctor in St Louis explained to me that I have a permanent bone chip in my right ankle now from all the times this injury has occurred, and the stability in the ankle is really low, which leads me to my question...
Is there a way for me to gain some of the stability and strength that my right ankle has lost throughout the years and injuries? Any ideas/input from you would be greatly appreciated.

You gotta remember though that even though with the knowledge we have and physics at play, the results often seem like nothing severe necessarily happened to the structure of the joints, but then when the MRI is done after the XRays come out negative for fractures of any kind and degrees, they can be surprised and find out the player suffered a severe tear anyway. I myself tore my ATFL and what I was told specifically after I had asked how much it tore, that it was at least 50%, and my xrays all turned up completely negative too. The specialist even took extra xrays too while I was there in order to create a redundancy check to see if they receive the same results. So, the unlikely can happen.
