MegaLegoLuigiEX I remember using Action Replay with my HeartGold that was supposed to let me find any Pokémon in the wild, but it only went up to Torchic... Stupid new games still using 8-bit counters and only going to 255... On a side note totally unrelated to hacking old games, Pokémon still uses an 8-bit counter, even in Sun and Moon. As a result, a base stat can still only be 255 or lower (so Blissey's 255 base HP is the maximum), and doing things like SOS battle chaining will reset after 255 Pokémon in a chain.

It's because the devs couldn't be arsed to allocate more memory to these values
8 bits = 1 byte
1 byte = 255
2 bytes = 65535
etc.
Or, in the Action Replay case, your cheats were simply created by an idiot. Unless the Action Replay is only capable of affecting 1 byte at once, but that's unlikely

My game crashed once when trading a level 100 Blastoise for a level 27 Scyther with my friend. When we turned it on again both of us had a Scyther, no Blastoise was present and I had a glitch pokemon which was named a load of symbols and question marks, and knew the move Surf and 3 slots of Strength. It had the sprite of a primeape. Upon using it in battle it would just continue to gain levels past level 100 and researt at 1 again for a good 40+ minutes. Just wondering if anyone else had this happen? Ive never managed to duplicate it :(

Sounds like an incomplete save. Basically your Blastoise has half of its Pokemon data transfered.

I borrowed my cousin's pkmn Gold to trade his Machoke over for my Haunter in pkmn Silver. Back then I used shitty brand batteries for my GBC, so my pkmn Silver shut off, his pkmn Gold got an error.
After turning back on, we both had Haunter... Till today, I don't know how to explain to him about his lost Machoke...

FUN FACT!
That unused card mini-game is actually in Pokemon Crystal. Use the Slot Machines to the right of the Goldenrod Game Corner to play Card Flip. A memory matching game. You bet coins, get a few flips, and if you get them all right, a decent payout.
This was later turned into Voltorb Flip in the International versions of Heart Gold and Soul Silver.
A+Start: ACE, item placement and reworking the game to get a Celebi.
Scykoh: CLONING DROWZEES AND TURNING THEM INTO HELLSPAWN GLITCH MONSTERS, OBLITERATING THE ENTIRE GAME IN THE PROCESS AND MASHING BUTTONS UNTIL ONE OF THE HUNDREDS OF POKEMON IN THEIR PARTY TURNS INTO A CELEBI
So A+Start won. He got the Celebi without leaving Johto and did a victory lap afterwards

I had a playthrough of Silver version, that I will not soon forget. I was about 11 and had my Silver version for about a year. I started up a new game, it was about my 4th time through the game. Everything was going smoothly, until one of my Pokemon got PokeRUS. I didn't know what it was, and some of my friends thought I was lying when I told them!
This is where weird things happen in my game. I had an Elekid (which I named Douglas), he got infected with the virus and I had put him in the PC. When I went to check his stats in the PC, he changed into a different Pokemon! He had changed into a level 5 Tyranitar (named changed to EDouglas), with the cry of a Magneton! I was so freaked out at what happened, that I tried to do it again. Everyone of my Pokemon that had PokeRUS was changing into a different Pokemon, even the Tyranitar changed when I put it in the box! Pokemon that weren't infected didn't changed, oddly enough.
So after a while I stopped and taken out a few of my favorite Pokemon that had changed. One of them was a Blastoise, holding the item Teru-sama. I had no idea what it was or what it did. All I knew is that there was a Super Nerd by the name of Teru, and it sold for good amount.
So I took the Blastoise to the daycare, to get my favorite Pokemon, a Squirtle from an egg. So I went outside to check how it felt towards Ditto, it had changed again! This time it changed into an egg, with the status of "It looks like it take a long time to hatch"
So in an attempt to hatch it I traveled to my main hatching place, Ecruteak City. When I got there it started to hatch. And of all things, it hatched into another egg with the same status. This time it took forever to hatch. But when it did, what came out of the egg took me by surprise. It was a glitched Pokemon, that looked like the square cousin of Missingno.
I hadn't used a cheating device, and the only cheating methods I knew were cloning, and using the cloning glitch to get all three starters.
So you think you could help me out, and explain how these glitches happened? This all happened in one playthrough, and it's the most unique playthrough I've ever had in any game.
A+: tapping the ground in Seattle to collapse the ground in Canada.

A+: Very careful planning and setup with extended knowledge of coding. *Gains a functioning Celebi.*
Scykoh: "RANDOM BULLSHIT GO- " *Gains some Giratina-spawn abomination of a Celebi*
A+Start: *uses highly technical pokemon, box name, and held item manipulation to write code to give him the Celebi*Scykoh: *breaks the game until he has a Celebi*
I super nereded this game out, wrote a stat guide and bred almost 100 pokemons and trained them to Lv 50 to do the battle tower in Pokemon Crystal.
Scykoh's Celebi looked cooler, but A+Start's Celebi was more functional :p
Lol Scykoh's method was to break everything and hope for the best, A+Start actually had a plan and didn't destroy his game

As fun as this probably is to do, I just use the Gameshark. Have the code that turns whatever random encountered Pokemon to Celebi (or Mew, whatever), and catch it. As your first wild encounter. Boring, but effective and fair I think. I mean honestly: stupid contests/events.
You don't need to cheat for items, just clone pokémon, like in Scykoh's video!
the coin case is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish this happened(with different outcomes of course) in all other pokemon games

How the holy crap did you figure this out? Did you have a strategy to guess how this would work? or a butt ton of time on your hands?
It's been figured out by people who look into the code and find ways to manipulate it in-game.

+EPICLUMA 97 RH Yea, apparently when he tried to do the save data glitch properly, with an actual cartridge and all it wouldn't work due to the battery issues. He had so many problems trying to get this one right it was crazy.
To get Celebi you need to very specifically make a bad clone and that is very hard to do, and sometimes it's different in each cartridge if I recall correctly.
What you tried to teach:

What about nitrogen that makes up most of our atmosphere?
57 = end subroutine
50 = end text
The English translation used 50 where it should have used 57. So after printing the text it keeps going, executing some nonsense which redirects it to a sound buffer. By chance that buffer sometimes contains a 57 byte, so no glitch happens. (Probably why they didn't catch it.) But certain sounds, like Bellsprout's, will redirect it again to the screen buffer - something we can partially control by standing in certain spots and walking certain paths. It's enough control that we can direct it into our party data, where Quagsire's species, item and first move spell out one more jump, into the PC items list (or box names), which are almost fully under our control, meaning we can write whatever instructions we like.
Those glitches seem like they'd unlock Tails in Melee. Like, they remind me of those tricks your friend used to tell you to get Ho-Oh in Red...
And finding shellos and gastrodon in Pokemon Ruby Sapphire and Emerald.

Bugeyedpurpledragon I highly doubt it. Modern games generally aren't *this* glitchy, and Crystal did it right, so it's unlikely. Don't worry; _Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric_ is the exception that proves the rule.

Combination of trying a LOT and looking at the code precisely. Basically the same process as game production glitch busting.
FF = No. 255
FF = Fire and Fighting
No. 255 = Torchic
Game Freak planned Gen III since the end of Gen I.

Me too. But Scykoh is almost impossible to pronounce right the first time... It almost sounds like Psycho to me.
