    Props to these guys for building a fair door set-up and not making the deadbolt side weaker.

      they actually even made the deadbolt side stronger since they didnt think about the fact it wasnt framed well. when he kicked the door the whole frame moved with it which caused the door not to break but just the frame moving. so they basically almost ruined their entire presentation

      In my opinion, alex is dumb and was kicking the wrong door. The door he was kicking was the stronger door they setup to show off their product. The one he was supposed to kick was weaker and thats why he kicked it first try

      even if they fake it they cant fool the sharks. If a shark close the deal with them they will still double-check the product with their own team before finalizing the deal.

    The only reason he couldn't break it open easily is that the frame is not stiff enough, you can actually see it moving with the door. If this was your front door, it would have been much easier. Props to these guys for hanging in and prove their point eventually. Surprised that no one pointed this out on the show.

      I think the bar lock's door was flexing. I didn't see the deadbolt door flexing that much. If anything, your argument of frame not being stiff enough was helping their product more.

    In his defense, when the door is installed in your home, it's attached to walls. All the impact of the kicks are absorbed by the lock/door. In that demonstration you can see the whole structure is bulging, which means a lot of the force is being dissipated elsewhere instead of affecting the lock

    I think the stand the doors were on was absorbing his kicks with momentum, which is why it wouldn’t open. That lock is still a good product.

      @@MGrinsebacke The gun genie went out of the bottle a long time ago. 440 million guns in the U.S., if the government bans them, not only will they get less than 15% of them given to them, there's not a cop in their right mind that's going to enforce it, especially in states in the Midwest and South. Tell a good Ole boy in Mississippi to hand over his AR... ain't going to happen, and the other 25 million AR owners probably aren't going to do it either. Better idea: If you know a crazy person that's acting irrationally, and they're quickly acquiring guns or acting violent, don't be afraid to call them out on being a freak and hurting their feelings to get them the correct professional attention that they deserve.

    It’s because the door frame isn’t secured within a wall, it’s allowed to move freely in the prop so it moves with the vibrations from the kick, if it was locked inside a wall the resistance would’ve broken the lock

      Guns can be scanned for in the entrance but unfortunately theres always someone who doesn't want to do their job with excellence and that can go under the radar in my opinion. And theres always someone who comes up with a better way to conceal. I think having it in schools is actually a nice idea. Added security to save lives🙏🏼✊🏽

      No, a door that can't be opened from the outside is a death trap. What if the person behind the door is unconscious because of fire. It happened to me when I had a stroke. Lucky for me they opened the door easily from the outside or I wouldn't sit here in perfect health again.

      It's because of the margins they give . 2 investors 1.2million dollar and a loan of 500thousand , and the shark tank's request of another 500 thousand. I mean the margins are to large to risk a deal with them . the project is good ,the idea is brilliant but the margins is too high . It will take a decade before they make an income on that. It's too risky . I understand why they turn him down

    If it was a normal frame it would be more stable and those kicks would’ve done more damage, but with how much give there was, it was reducing the force of his kicks. Impressive that he was able to kick it down regardless. It’s a solid idea for schools!

      @@sarahisatitagainprofit margin seemed to be the deciding factor in this case. Profit margin refers to how much money you make per unit of an item sold. Simply put, it was too expensive to make Haven, which meant they don’t make that much money off of selling it.

    I’m glad to hear they are a solution to locking the classroom doors for teachers. Kudos to the Superintendent for making the big order. I think the Sharks are missing out on a big catch.

      The entrepreneurs were offering 6% for half a million bucks. At 6% the owners would need to make 8.34 million profit for the shark to simply get their money back.

    I think it could be improved upon by integrating with the deadbolt/doorframe. When you use the deadbolt, it presses down on a mechanism that travels down the doorframe and makes the slab rise. And then maybe introducing a spring into the mechanism so that there's no accidental activation by a pet.

      finally someone else saw this. hitting it on the far side opposite of the hinges gives the most leverage regardless of how it is locked. it still seems like a good product but it’s disappointing that they tried to deceive them in the demo. maybe it’s a good thing he wasn’t able to kick the first door down

    I think maybe the best way to show their product is better than a deadlock is the fact that deadlocks can be easily picked but their product wipes out that possibility entirely. Of course the point of using force also helps but I think the fact that it can't be picked AT ALL is a bigger selling point. Given how security is a huge issue in the US it wonders me why none of the sharks were willing to invest 🤔

      Breaking the doorknob with the tool on their smartlock door would not open the door because the lock is on the bottom of the door so that's why I think

    So this device seems like a great idea but you can only use it on in-swing doors. That being said an outswing door you would never be able to kick in or break through the deadbolt part of the jamb

      I noticed the same thing Jeff. I'm a Fire Inspector and I specialize in school inspections to include means of egress. The doors are designed to open outwards and I was trying to wrap my head around how this would work.

      Hey Ron I am a residential contractor here in Florida and that was the first thing that jumped up at me. Down here in Florida where we have to deal with wind codes, most home exterior doors are out swings for that reason. I guess around the majority of the country though doors are probably in swings so you can put a screen on it.

    I think my biggest issue with the product is We don't really have that big gap underneath our doors. It will hit our doors even if it's not activated. maybe it got cut out in the editing process, but they didn't mention anything about that. Like do we need to shave off a chunk of the door or something?

    I do think it might work with a door in a frame in a house. The freestanding frame flexing absorbs the energy from the kicks instead of it being concentrated on the lock. Still hilarious though
