Moments like this really show how incredibly hard Kratos is. He is FAR beyond intimidation. You cant size him up cause he has faced titans the size of mountains, and you cant intimidate him with power and/or rule because he single handedly brought down an entire pantheon. When the 2 most powerful norse gods show up at his door, he doesn't stand down in the slightest. He even looks Odin right in his face and denies him. Something almost no one has the balls to do and for good reason. His bravery commands respect.

I love how Thor and Odin's true characters are shown in this opening scene.
Thor, despite arriving in intimidating fashion, asks permission to come in, brings a gift as an offering, is courteous towards their home, places his weapon on the table as a sign of peace, speaks calmly and pours everyone's mead like a respectable guest - even though he knows a fight could break out at any point.
Then Odin, despite his kind old conciliator persona, arrives and walks in without invitation, immediately makes himself at home, drinks all the mead, speaks passive aggressively as he immediately starts bargaining like a sleazy salesman, makes veiled threats towards Kratos and Atreus, and provokes Thor into attacking Kratos.

It could mean that without Baldur’s immunity and immortality, he was actually pretty weak compared to the rest of the Aesir and/or it could mean that Thor (and probably most of the Aesir) just did NOT give a shit about Baldur. I really feel bad for Thor man, hes just Odins puppet, after finishing the game and seeing this scene again you can see Thor is really calm and as he says "polite" and when Odin says his children were useless he turns away and sobs a little, then looks back to Kratos not even menacingly, then gives Odin an angry look. Pay attention and hes on his mind the whole time and we can see how hes treated like shit by Odin.
