Why did you not get a few "bits and bobs" for the Shelby? Drag radials for starters. Forget the 100k difference, the 30k worth of add-ons will get someone to add a custom all-wheel-drive axle under the front.

Stock M8 competition does 0-60 in 2.8-2.9 seconds and 1/4 mile in 10.8-10.9 consistently by numerous reputable channels.
And 4WD sport mode is the mode to be in even in roll races.
The GT500 also has a 160 bhp advantage.

I’ve heard a lot of people say the M8 looks like a Mustang...until the M8 is next to a Mustang 😂 and they look nothing alike.
It looks similar to Mustang GT, not 350 or 500 with different masks and bumpers etc
Especially if you look at their silhouettes, you can see similarities in design

The GT500 does actually have a second of delay. Even Randy Prost had that issue. But they should know that before they tried it.

Ingenuity and quality engineering is why the bmw is faster in the length they they did the drag race. the mustang is nice but give it up to the winner.
How is that even comparable? 760hp in the mustang vs 617hp in the BMW. Nearly 140hp less in the BMW... The fact that the BMW is beating the mustang in awd and rwd just shows how much better engineered it is.

The drivers are just terrible, it’s not the car, it’s the driver, M8 makes 630 whp meaning 700 to the crank, on dragtimes it beat the M8 easily, or you can look at stangmode videos he can chop alot of cars from a dig.

The RWD in the M8 is designed for the drift mode only, and not the drag race.
Because it limits the engine power.
You can't activate launch control in rwd mode... it's only meant to do the drifty stuff , and actually it re-engages awd after 160kph
You can't engage launch, but it's a torque converter so can still load if it up on the brake

The fact that the GT 500 is usually being compared to cars 50-100K dollars more, says much about the GT 500.
I just bought a 2020 Mustang GT with the PP1 in Twisted orange with the black racing stripe, active exhaust and the manual. I couldn't care less how fast it goes from 0-60 or the quarter mile. It looks and sounds bad ass!

You realize there isn't a power deficit right? The m8s make high5s to the wheels stock since the Germans love undwrating there cars. In other words the m8 is making close to 700 hp and similar rq with awd. Shouldn't be a suprise.

But the power deficit doesn't matter in that case. It's all about traction and you'll get it with awd.

Newer M cars are great in that they can switch to full RWD mode for rolls. My M340 doesn't have that by factory lol
Yes 3 years in my ScatPack only races have been rolls, street drags from light just don’t happen and its a good way to lose your license quick and hurt people.

Road and track also preferred the GT500 over the M8 in their performance car of the year while the Germans won the straight line race they didn't win the handling and steering communication categories where unbelievably the Mustang was actually better and is more entertaining to drive as you don't have the extra weight of the all-wheel drive system over the front tires which in a turn actually fights to lose the grip they gain in a drag race
Need to do these tests on a 1/4 and half mile drag strip. Not doing a 1/4 at least you are struggling for traction and then gives you the top half track to real the beamer in.

I would be interested to see which car would do better around big willow. I know the gt500 has the edge in the straights, but I'm curious to know of the BMW could make it up in the corners.
BMW's home is on the track it's where they truly excel it's in their blood so in reality the question should be about the mustang and its tracking capabilities

So what was the M8's time in AWD mode? Kinda annoying you don't give that time also.
Maybe it's not in perfect conditions or the launch control doesn't do its best in the M8. But I've seen many tests suggest that stock M8 is capable of 10.7-10.8 seconds run. Maybe 10.7 is on drag strips. But 10.8 is on normal road. Normally it can at least run 11.0. 11.2 is pretty slow for M8 already.
I did 2.6 in my M8 the launch control was insane and 10.8 at 129mph in the quarter mile

Yes finally a good demo on why AWD is a good thing in a car! Here in Florida, only enthusiasts know that AWD gives you better launch and different handling dynamics with better control in rain.
The rest would just stare at you blankly and ask why "In flat sunny Florida?"!

given that the m8 weighs 100lb more and has 150 less horsepower, i'd say in the rolling race it was far closer than it should have been. keeps up good. Put a tune on that m8 and see what happens.... hell do the same with the gt500. I wonder which has more potential bolt on for bolt on. m8 might make like 700whp with catless exhaust, intakes, intercooler and tune. Im sure the mustang would be a better 1/4 mile car if the trans can hold, that engine could probably make 1200hp with just a bigger blower. I wonder what the gains would be for a pulley on that car?

I smashed an M8 BMW comp in my Whippled 10R80 Mustang GT at a track roll racing from 30mph but I had sticky tyres and have 650HP at the wheels. Love roll racing it gets rid of the awd advantage.

AWD vs RWD is never a fair match up when drag racing from the dig
On the street definitely. It's only at the track where the surface is very sticky that AWD starts to become a disadvantage (due to the extra weight). That's why the fastest cars at the track (over-all) are RWD with drag tires to hook up. AWD cars will even convert to RWD to run faster in drag racing (due to less weight, better weight transfer). But for the average Joe in a stock car, AWD for the win, especially if you're on the street.

Heres the breakdown. If youre in a GT500 and meet an M8 at a stoplight, you'll get drug. If youre on the highway in an M8 and meet a GT500, dont even waste your gas.

Would loved to have seen this GT500 on a drag radial, just to take traction out of the equation and test the raw acceleration of both cars.
Drag radials will not help on that surface. Great for the drag strip, not for what they were doing. And honestly it will not help anyway. The launch control in an M8 is insane with it being AWD.
@@matthewwitzke4520 Drag Radials would most definitely help on any clean, dry surface. The whole point in the creation of the drag radial was for street use. I've dead hooked a supercharged 4.6L making 460lbs/ft of torque on the street with a pair of Mickey Thompson ET street radials.
Would it have been enough to combat the M8's AWD...hard to say. But they would have definitely helped.
@@alfrede.neuman8611 Absolutely not in this situation. The driver of the GT500 even said this is a poor street surface. Drag radials on a poor street surface will not perform well. That is why I said "will not help on that surface." The AWD will still be at an advantage because all four wheels are gripping on a bad surface. I am very very familiar with drag radials. And the creation of the drag radial was so that a person could go to the strip, drag the car and then drive home all without changing tires. And as far as torque, that GT500 will be laying down nearly 600 lbs/ft to the ground, a bit more than 460. But in the end, I can tell you from real world experience (my garage has a Challenger Hellcat Redeye, a Challenger 1320 and an M8), the M8 with launch control and being AWD, will out launch that car with drag radials on the street. Now at the strip, my Redeye on drag radials, well then, we are talking about a redeye pull.
I feel like this video was all about you not knowing how to launch these cars and then complaining about their ability to drag race.
The 2013-14 GT500 were running 0-60 in 3.5 during all of the magazine tests back in the day with less power and caveman tech solid rear axle.
