I'm glad you switched cars for the second race. The second race was much closer than the first which was a much bigger gap. I'd say that has a lot to do with the driver!
Driver error on that first race, glad it was in proper hands for the second, which is outcome I was expecting. I was in a F80 M4 running some roll races with a M5 of similar year and the race was dead to 90ish but over 100 the M5 just walked away (like it should be). Fun test, I love U Drags!
As a former autoxer and road racer, I'd love to see a video on the behind the scenes production of U-Drags. It must take more than a few practice runs to establish the braking points and then at least a few actual runs of each race so that you can lock in the perfect pivot at the far end by both drivers.

Transmission technology I feel dont get much credit in comparison to the engine, but it’s evident that the improvements made in that respect over the past couple decades is huge. I believe both of these have torque converter style automatics so its crazy how well they launch and shift given their history of being referred to as slush boxes.
@@ALMX5DP The torque converter locks above a certain speed for efficiency. the ZF can be programmed to dump the clutches in the planetary gearset so you get those kicks that almost feel like dual-clutch transmissions. I've once had a faulty vw passat transmission from 2006 that would utterly slam the clutches shut and would spin up the wheels from 1st to 2nd. 2nd to 3rd felt like a f1 shift xD
Absolutely love U Drag races. If it’s not too dorky, could you guys consider putting tire info/spec in the video as I am always curious about what they are running? I know some cars now come on as some cars come with Cup (R) tires, etc, which really offer an edge. Keep up the amazing work!
Yeah man ; swapping cars on race two really shows you how critical the driver "skills" are when watching these videos for comparison on all these sport cars. Even on drags
The M8 will be another beautiful BMW coupe everyone will sing the praises about a few years after it’s out of production. Another classic in the making.
Amazing video! I love the U-Drag. It reflects the car so much better than Drag races, by including braking and cornering, but I understand that booking a track is not very feasible, so sometimes Drag strip is all you can do. Wish U-Drag would be more widely adopted instead of Drag race. Tracktimes are still the most accurate though! The choice of car is nice, but I think they could be better if you compared M4, against M8 since they have the same body style. I also think each driver could have a bit more runs in each car.
I was driving M6 and M4！The difference of feeling is V8 is pushing you and the I6 is taking you！You can feel the weight of M6 ！It is totally different！
@@qwertyqwerty-zi6dr In my opinion， the M6 or M8 V8 will make you a little bit scarred！Because the heavier weight and much more power， it is not easy to drive，and you need pay more attention to control the V8， when you push harder，you can really know what M power V8 exactly it is！It is a real beast！
@@edmundscars some of the earlier Performance cars came with the 18” wheels from the factory. They were called “Stealth” models. It would be interesting to see one of those tested with a warmed up battery.
Having an M8 Comp, I'm curious about the actual car/engine setup as nothing they did or showed looked correct except maybe putting it in a generic setting (possibly why launch control did not work), and what does launch control have to do with a 3rd or 4th gear shift? Perhaps he meant to say traction control?

This is why I don’t let vehicle marketing hype me up. There’s always someone faster! No need to overpay for cars due to specs on a sheet. Too many people overpay because of this crap, when really, you should be buying a car based on many different factors, not just “hype”.

How can you show a race where the start was SO OBVIOUSLY JUMPED by the M8? I couldn’t care less which one wins, but come on… given the effort it takes to publish a video like this the LEAST you can do is try. Unreal.
It actually looks like the M8 just had the slightly quicker reaction time. Play it back and forth and the signaler's hands have dropped before the M8 takes off. Given Race 2's similar results, it probably wouldn't have made a difference in the finishing order.
@@RiceCzechs agree completely, but when one driver screws up the launch, scrub the race and start over. This should be a comparison of the cars as much as practically possible, not the drivers.
Seems like they should’ve either compared the M4CX with the M8 coupe or the M3CX with the M8 gran coupe. Maybe the weight differences between each platform’s siblings is negligible but that seems like it would make a little more sense. Great races & content!

One of the guys is clearly a better driver than the other. If the drivers were the same, you’d see a result sitting between the two runs here.
I like these races, you should always try your best to pair competitive cars, ie, M5 against E63 etc..

The M8 is only available in Competition guise, and the M3 used is an xDrive-equipped model.
