I wish you guys could be cloned and put in every golf facility. I’ve learned more from this page than anyone I’ve wasted money on for lessons. It’s so hit or miss but you guys are always a home run!
I love the reviews but the instructional videos are my favorite. I have had fittings in the past and they never had me tee the ball at different heights. Thanks
Great info! You guys always bring great perspective and insight. Keep it coming!
300 yrds with 104 club head is legit! That launch angle must be prime. I get 105-110 club head and very rarely get 300. sad but encouraged to know whats possible.
Same. But he's hitting it dead center face a ton. Love to see it. Lately my miss has been a pull hook, trying to reel it in.
every youtube golf channel juices their launch monitor. I'm 105 and i'm not carrying it 275 on the course. Thats a big carry for anybody. I'm a 4 handicap and i play with really good players. Every youtube guy carries further than the absolute best ive seen on a golf course. What a coincidence
😂 I believe they juice the launch monitors too. They do that at the PGA superstore to Sale clubs .
Foresight calculates low spinning shots wrong, known issue!
@@ivosefranek1822finally someone with facts instead of conspiracy theories
Great stuff guys ,well done Mikey
This is an awesome video. I got into the teeing it really high and hitting way up on it category. I was super long, but started getting wildly wayward. Worked hard at the end of the season and started to tee it down at an almost uncomfortable level (for me). Fairways hit went way up, and my distance really didn’t go down that much. It’s a good feeling retiring balls to the practice shag bag after a few rounds of use rather than going through a sleeve per round. 😊
Like you I teed it high and then went to play one day when it was windy and started teeing it lower....big surprise is I didn't miss a fairway that day.
Really valuable video portraying some of the basic physics of the swing and ball flight in correlation with tee height. My miss tends to be a low pull hook left and I’m going to experiment with lowering the tee height next practice session on Thursday to see if that reduces that tendency. Just bought myself a SkyTralk+ for Christmas. Appreciate these little nuggets of swing physics and the opportunity to experiment in the bay and track ball fight and numbers on the monitor and continue to stack some small wins toward a better delivery! 😊
Love the technical insight videos. Just love 'em.
(Mikey - you and I both know that the tees you get at your golf club ain't free. Worth it, but not free.)
Love this video and I'll be honest it's never something I've thought a lot about. I've always just threw a peg in the ground and sent it. I'm going to test things out in the sim this winter.
Truly eye opening video. Will definitely be testing tee heights!
Love this as this is my identical swing speed! Shows me there’s hope for me after all 😂 keep up the great vids!
Love Mikey's gains. Need to get me one of those trainers 😂
Great stuff once again!
Loving this video i have a similar delivery to Mike with the exception of aoa and abit more speed
That was really enlightening. Thanks
Great stuff - thanks !!
Super video boys .. off to test this 👍
As a guy who fights the quick lefts due to alot of shoulder tilt and flippy wrists, lowering my tee height (which is now high via the blue pro tee) will be lowered on my next SIM night. Good insight guys.
I've gone to teeing it really high and I'm loving the extra distance and the flight. I have a tendancy to have my hands forward with my driver, not good. I was hitting down on it. I've moved the ball forward so its off my toe and i flare my left foot so its quite a way forward. Leaning exaggerated back, i also move my right foot back. And hover the driver. On average i hit about 5 - 7 meters further, but its the slight misses i like, i do lose distance but not as much as i did. And left to right dog legs are now my favourite holes, i just love taking it over the corners. 😊
WOW! This video 'splains a lot!!! I was teeing the ball pretty high (only with the driver), and hitting a lot of pulls and pull-draws. Recently (about 4 weeks ago), I lowered my tee height by about 1/4" and I have been hitting a lot of fairways, with almost zero "lefts" with my driver (no changes whatsoever in driver settings, only in teeing height). In addition, I'm hitting the ball about 20-25 yards farther with the tee height adjustment, and that's a lot of added distance for a "super senior" of almost age 75. My numbers on the launch monitor confirm this, as I am hitting lots of 265-270 yard drivers, with more than 240 yards of carry (with the ball teed slightly higher, I was getting 225-230 yards of carry on my very best drives, and virtually everything ended left of the fairway). Last Thursday, I played in a winter golf tour event in sub-freezing conditions (temperature at tee time was 28* F.), so I got lots of run-out on the frozen fairways until late in the round when the sun melted the frozen turf, and not only did I get a couple of 290-295 yard drives, I didn't miss a single fairway until our 16th hole, and then only by a little bit.
Thanks for one of the most informative videos yet on all of the factors that combine to give your drives distance, backspin and direction!
I just found out theres a Club Champion in Brisbane (visiting up from Adelaide), gonna go get my driver fitted for the 1st time ever. Shame the new Mizuno driver isnt released yet 😢
😱 this coupled with my increased speed, fitted driver, I’ll be looking at 30m extra distance.
most helpful vid that links it all together from shaft flex, weight, head design. damn i need a new driver :) for the people mikey!
you give me a lot of hope for my swing btw, haha i think i can carry 300 now , already seen 159 mph on a massive hook. 170 gonna happen lol. but aint cracked 270 with a range ball lol
“You never want to be in the ‘low t’ category”. 😂
In all seriousness I went from a high to a mid tee height player and it did wonders for my confidence and results. I like the feeling of almost covering the ball and not feeling like I’m falling backwards (if that makes sense) and the slightly lower tee helps promote that feeling.
Good stuff. I'd appreciate instructional videos.
Good info, and depending on the shot you want depends on height
Very interesting!
Great video - I've been using BirTee #6 in the bay, and I mark my tees on the course, so always super consistent with tee height (great tip for all you out there). However, I struggle with a low launch angle. 10* driver, AoA is usually between 0-2 and launch is usually 10* and under, too low, so I lose a bit of optimization and peak height. Definitely it's partially mechanics, but trying to go to a higher tee I get absolutely TERRIFIED of going underneath it and leaving a sky mark!! I could use the increase in AoA but I don't want my path more Out-to-In as I prefer to fade it..... not sure what my question is but sounds like I'm talking myself into more lessons!
Move it up in your stance with the higher tee and more tilt. Rather than think about my shoulders, I just tilt my head a little right and that gets me going more out & up. If you do this, you won't sky it even though you'll think that you're going to.
GREAT video!! I’m a 18-20 handicap golfer and have always struggled off the tee, to the point where I got rid of driver and went the BRNR Mini Driver.
This video was so interesting to watch, I never really thought about tee height before. I’ve tested this out myself over the past 2 days after watching your video and gone a higher tee off the box and wow… I’m hitting longer and now drawing the ball!
Thanks guys, great videos as always. We appreciate you 👏.
"the pig" I cried lmao
I will try a lower tee height for my next practice. I’m swinging 105 mph but am not seeing 275 yd carry (rather 250 yd). Thanks for this video!
Super interesting! I hit a big draw and I tee it up as high as I can get it.
But at the end how you say with the high tee you start getting the big blocks and hooks (feel like you are watching me hit driver) makes sense why I go back to mid tee to get my dispersion back. Then of course I go right back to tee it high let it fly😂
I found that consistent tee height really helped me. That and if I put a high tee further forward in my stance, I was really prone to slicing it. I'd slide my body and drag the handle to try and "get to the ball" and i just pushed or sliced everything. Teed it down just a fraction (probably the classic smidge less than half a ball above the driver) and moved it back in my stand and all of a sudden im hitting very neutral shots. Definitely less distance but im just not talented enough to hit a high bombs with an elevated tee. Natural shape for me is a draw off the tee now with a short blocky miss.
Consistent tee height was the key. Now when I have a wild miss I dont really have to guess where I went wrong on the shot. I'll know exactly how I screwed up.
Does Mikey do your accent with certain phrases on purpose, or is that just from being around you so much? lol
😂, he speaks Scottish slang when we’re around each other. His Mum’s side of his family are all Scottish so it was already in there. I’ve just helped it come out a little more!! Lol
Oldie but goodie - this video just has to beat the previous 800K+ views record on a similar video of 3 years ago.
Question: I hover the driver.. how can tee height affect it? Another great vid fellas, Cheers!
Great video and info. What location do you work out of for fittings?
Hey Mike, as two great looking guys we have similar swing characteristics. Brings me to my question of what ball you use on the course? Ask that other guy (Friar? Freeman? Fiona…Fraz!) too…Keep up the great work!
Not sure about Mike but Ian plays Pro V1x
I love this channel! I wish I could get a fitting from you guys being a mid handicap
went there for iron fitting 2 years ago. i was fitted off 6 iron only. i'm a mid handicap as well and i hit 6 iron like crap so the whole things was a waste of time. i asked to use 7 iron but he would not let me. how can you fit a mid handicapper off 6 iron when one is left, one right, one skinny one fat? go figure
@@tohmsono5081 if you hit 6i like crap then you obviously need more forgiving clubs lool
@@jadenngl well the fitter should have known that, but he didn't. what does that tell you genius?
@@tohmsono5081 tells me you suck? idk if youre constantly spraying a 6 iron do you really need to be fitted 😂
@@tohmsono5081 Extremely disrespectful of you to call the iron fitting process a waste of time. I’m sorry it didn’t work for you but all of our clients are fit using a 6iron, we know it works for the vast majority of golfers. The reason your fitter couldn’t give you a 7iron to hit is that we don’t carry 7ir in our demo matrix.
I always get comments on how high I tee the ball. But I really lean the handle. Play a 12* driver down to 11 and swing 5 up on avg. Allows my ~100mph ss to keep up with my buddies at 105-110.
I use the 4” tees and I love people’s reactions when they see it tee’d up so high 😂
Like this...would like to seeit on a hole, on the sim, so we can see when target is introduced...
nice
New drivers are great, but I still miss the smaller original big Bertha size drivers!
It's a great morning when the kiddo asks "can we watch an Ian golf video?" Yes we can, pal, yes we can!
Stop it! Couple of questions why did omit the number of BirTee used relative to the Low - Mid - High? Or did I miss that info. Do all CC now use BirTee for fits and is something that’s able to be accessed during say a driver fit appointment time frame wise? These videos are pure gold! #nuggets 👍👍
We used #2 Low #6 Mid #8 High
All Club Champion Canada stores use Bir-Tees.
@@ianfrasergolf Thanks Mr.Fraser appreciated
High Tee rule of thumb is getting the equator of the ball at or just above the crown of the club. These newer driver heads love that little higher center strike.
Good rule of thumb... find what works for you based off your individual swing characteristics.
Not for all
Not all drivers. Taylormade certainly does, but my ping doesn’t love the high face. It is faster off the bottom than it is the top
That is unusual. The low CG in these LS drivers normally love the high center strikes.
@@yipchip5341 I have a ping g430 LST. Its weight is way lower and backward of what a taylormade is. Hence why they’re more forgiving. It’s also a shallower face. It makes perfect sense that lower strikes come out better. There’s more weight lower in the head
Great video and all, but I could listen to Ian chirp Mikey all day long.
Would ya'll mind listing what "low", "medium", and "high" tee heights are roughly? Thanks!
We need to know what wine Mikey is drinking that's giving the +15mph ss 😂
So high tee, tilt for high angle of attack players ? Suggestions on head style and loft to positively impact a negative aoa?
Tee it high....let it fly!
Would have loved a dispersion chart here.
Mikey - what did you do to increase your swing speed? I am falling in the same boat as you, decreased to mid 90s but used to be around 105mph.
I use a 57mm pink castle tee which is bang on for me. I did try the other height but pink is the one for me. I get a great consistency with them. The range I use has 51mm or 70mm rubber tees and I see I big difference when I use them. I get better results of the 51mm than the 70mm one too. I anyone cares 🤣
What height is the mid tee and high tee . Is mid (pink) and high(orange) in graduated terms. Cheers
Quick question, high tee, ball goes left with a draw. Could this shape be off-set with a flatter lie angle to get a straight ball flight? (B1 or C1 titleist hozel setting)?
Yes
This is exactly how I’ve been “cheating” to get as much out of my swing speed as I possibly can.
I have a TSR2 set in C1 with the ball teed quite high and forward. I set up with an open left foot and make what “feels” like a cut swing to me and the ball will launch high and knuckle out there longer than what I deserve.
Ball position looked a bit middle-ish for a driver based on where ball and left foot were relative to the mat.
Ian and Mikey, what tee height do you guys usually use on the monitor with cones? #6, #7 about right? I tend to use #6 but that may be low
I typically use a 6 and have bought castle tees for the course off of amazon that are the exact same height
I am pretty sure that Mike‘s drives would be significantly shorter in real life with those spin rates. FSX is known to calculate to much carry with low spinning shots. If you put those numbers in the Trackman optimizer you will probably get 10 to 15 yards less! According to Ping‘s data he should have about 2200 rpm for optimal distance with his launch angles.
Even if it’s 260 carry 275 total it doesn’t really matter. Mike is 25 yards longer than he was 6-9months ago
@@ianfrasergolf Well, that depends on how he gained the length. By gaining club head speed or by reducing spin? If it was by reducing spin it may be only fictional gain in FSX, or he may even have lost distance in real life. A video with a Trackman vs Foresight comparison would be really interesting, also concerning club head speed. I have about the same speed as Mike in my Foresight simulator and guess it is about 3% less with a Trackman.
if you’ve watched the channel for any amount of time you’d know he’s picked up a significant amount of swing speed
@@erikkiser6882 Obviously I haven't, that's why I asked...🙄
Index finger height every time. Unless it’s windy and i drop it or need a fade.
Is it best to try castle tees for height consistency?
Interesting. Last week I moved the tee about 2” forward, raised it higher and picked up ball speed and accuracy. I feel I can be more aggressive and just keep things very neutral in my thoughts and I get a lovely back to the centerline small fade. Sometimes a mild straight pull. It feels like I have a lot more room to swing and let go.
does this mean if I have the lefts (as a right handed golfer), teeing it down with be more beneficial?
Edit: Nevermind! You covered this later in the video
You could also try to strike it closer to the heel as well. A toe strike will make a draw pattern into a hook. Slightly heel can help
Ok so by going off the data in this video, I need to tee the ball up about… 3 feet off the ground 🥲
$10 USD on Amazon for 3 1/4” tees. 100 count
Did I hear that correct that you’ve set the SureFit hosel at A2? Seems like a strange choice with as far away from ball as your setup is. I’ll assume you’ve analysed your launch to choose this setting, could you explain why this is correct setting for someone who’s setup is not upright and far from ball?
Yes, Mikey uses A2 because he typically has a slightly negative (out-to-in) club path with driver, which tends to lead to a left to right ball flight and a spinny, right miss. The A2 setting helps combat the cut and the right miss by promoting a more positive dynamic lie angle at impact, which tilts the loft slightly to the left. Ian touches on this towards the end of the video from 12:45 to 13:25. Mikey's swing path and right miss are also part of the reason why he plays the adjustable weight in the heel to make it easier for the toe of the driver to square up. Another good TXG CC video to watch is from a few years ago called ANTI-SLICE & ANTI-HOOK Driver Setups for a One Way Miss.
@@kevinoneill2170 not to mention the weight in heel to help mitigate the heel slice
What are the tee heights you're using for low, mid, and high?
I too wanted to know exactly how high they are but they never covered it.
I want Mikey to return the shade
Oh he does plenty!!
How did he increase speed from 92mph to over 105+?
Someone show this video to the "DOD King" 😂😂
I hit wildly up on the driver and use a high tee and can't keep it on planet earth. I will throw out the high tees and the short ones a try.
How much could a tee cost Michael? $10?
Tee it low and let it go!
$20? is Mikey using Gold Tees?
