I feel like with all the negative comments, Club Champion should consider sending Ian around to different locations, observing their fitting practices, and making some changes. I would love to get a fitting from someone like Ian, but it does shake my confidence in going to Club Champion to get a similar experience.
@@Chris_the_golf_guyFunny, because I went last week for an iron fitting and they spend over 2 1/2 hours with me and were very attentive. My only complaint is not getting my spec sheet emailed to me
@@FloridaNativeFishingChannel depends who you get but it doesn't change the fact that the same person who fit you is likely berated by their manager if you left without buying something. They tell associates to sell sell sell, and if the air is too long or they want to cancel, just to stall. I'm glad you had a good experience, though.
Really appreciate the sentiment of this video, but the reality is TXG and Club Champion are on opposite ends of this spectrum. The TXG fitting I see on this channel seems incredible and exactly what I want. The (2) worst fittings of my life were at Club Champion. One in CA, one in VA, same lackluster experience, lazy fitters, and uncool upsell tactics.
Whats funny is i got fit for PXG irons.. and you described exactly how the pxg fitter acted.. he looked bored and could care less. I did buy some gen5 irons, not because of the great fitting experience
Found the Facilities great, not all top brands were available or they couldn't be bothered asking me, the Upscaling was too $$$$$$, total 7k for ping irons and TM woods is ridiculous, There was something lacking in hindsight, there was not a lot of feedback from the fitter, just the good shot, well struck, lets change to this etc etc.
This is so important. So many times the fitters don't seem to care, and instead push expensive exotic shaft options, and ridiculous practices like shaft PUREing. Be clear about your intentions going into a fitting or you will be looking at a $5k+ bag.
and then say they cant order OEM shafts and try to push all this exotic BS. talk abour the turn around time that gets delayed and delayed @@SmoothELands
@@roidAholic they would get me OEM shafts but at full after market price. I got fit into Cobra irons. They wanted full iron price plus full shaft price. The shaft was a stock option that has no upcharge online or through Cobra
I got a driver fitting last year and was told by the fitter right out of the gate not to expect an “Ian” type of fitting. I was also told that if a person wanted an Ian or Mikey level fitting that it’s 4 times the price of a standard fitting and you pay that whether you purchased clubs or not. I understand that you get what you pay for but I didn’t notice a difference between the TXG/Club Champion fitting I had vs other fittings I’ve had with other companies. It was the TXG videos that ultimately made me want to give them a try but I’d say that the majority of the fitters at Club Champion are no better than the majority of fitters anywhere else.
And then pay twice the price per set after their fitting. I think if they charged for the fitting and charged the cost plus costs and not double they would be a more affordable option to more golfers.
Pretty hilarious that “TXG” makes a video about terrible club fittings and everyone complains about the company that purchased you. Pretty sad to see Ian sold out to one of the most notoriously terrible club fitters.
Recently had a fitting at CC and at no point was I ever asked what ball I play. The difference in these videos to reality is not even close. The final quote I received was legit jaw dropping.
I had a fitting at Club Champion where the fitter tried completely changing my swing during the fitting. He put me into irons that will work "When I swing it properly". I started seeing a pro for lessons to get a few things straightened out, and went back for my driver fitting. He spent 20 minutes insulting my coach and trying to change what he had been working on with me. My game got so bad, I couldn't find my ball half of the time. I talked to my coach about he, he put me on the Mizuno Shaft optimizer and we realized that I was 4* out of proper lie and in a shaft that didn't work at all for me. I sold or traded everything I got from that Club Champion fitting and now have a completely different bag. The guy at the Club Champion here is still there even though you can find tons of reviews about how he has done this to lots of people. Just wondering how CC can continue to say that they are the best when they have guys like this in their employ. I wish I could have seen Ian for my fitting.
This will sound very rude, but it needs to be said. You don't need fitting if you lose your ball half the time. The fitter should have noticed that and sent you away.
Agreed. Loved my Titleist fitting. It’s obvious that they’re only going to sell their own product, but it would be nice to experience their competition to “see” why they’re the better option. Rave reviews for the CC by me, but I only bought clubs from them because of a gift card special they had… but the lead time from them versus straight from Titleist online is odd that their lead time was 2x longer (when they’re getting them OEM from Titleist)
Love this video and the approach you guys take. I wish all Club Champions were like this as I got fitted for a $1K driver setup last year that actually made my game worse. Went to a competitor who fitted me to a completely different shaft and head with much better results, and was less expensive. Needs to be some more consistency across locations if they’re all under the CC banner.
I totally get what you guys are trying to do here, but the reality is that what you do at TXG is leaps and bounds better than what you would get at a regular Club Champion. I would love to be proven wrong, but I would be concerned unless Ian is the one doing the training for every fitter at Club Champion. The one time I went to Club Champion, I felt pressured to buy certain clubs and shafts, and I replaced the irons literally a year later.
Guess I'm lucky...I have an iron fitting coming end of the month and was lucky to get a fitting with Ian himself...hopefully goes well ...I'll let you.guys know if ya want me to post my experience here
Well, I’m heading back to Ian and Mike’s facility next week. Over a five year period I’ve had a driver fitting and another related to reshafting a set of irons. The driver fitting was jaw dropping in the way they altered my ball flight and centre strike consistency. The fitting wasn’t done by Mike or Ian but I was extremely happy with the results. I’m going back because I’m five years older, I’m physically weaker and I’m noticing how those factors are impacting my mechanics. I’m a believer based on my experiences. We’re lucky to live in the same area. They’re good, we have an understanding of budget and I’m looking forward to it.
No offense, gentlemen, but with the minimal number of 'affordable, knowledgeable and reputable' fitters out there it's almost not worth the risk and frustration of being 'fitted'. I wish more were like you, Ian.
@@dabdias I disagree. It’s like investing with broker dealer. You can go the cheap route and make mostly all your own choices. They might have a couple warnings if it’s something really dumb. Some people aren’t comfortable with that and hire on an advisor to make choices for them. That doesn’t make option one bad. Just not the option for everyone.
Couldn’t agree more. Club Champion experience is incredibly inconsistent. Mine was rushed through. Stick to the timeframe. The universal hosel attachment broke twice. And makes the clubs unbalanced with the weight in the heel. They didn’t have several shafts I wanted to try. And they tried to upsell puring a half dozen times. TXG or the remnants of it - appear to be a much different and better experience than the rest of club champion. Yes - there is much worse than club champion. It’s hard to find even decent fitting out there. But the idea that the club champion brand gets you anything remotely close to Ian is laughable. There just aren’t many Ians out there.
Ian and Mikey are just next level. So hard to get that replication of knowledge and dedication to their craft across so many stores and fitters unfortunately. I will say though that the CC Canada locations all get rave reviews from guys know across the country who have used the Vancouver, Calgary and GTA stores. Mikey has his guys dialed. Sorry America.
I did a club champion fitting recently and i will tell you it is not even close to what you see people get from Ian. Honestly, it's turned me off to fittings in the future because it was pretty far from expectations.
Went to Club Champion in Tucson and got a fairway wood that I can hardly hit, and a hybrid shaft that doesn't seem as good as what I had in it previously. Went back a couple of months later and was told that they are fine for me (basically the brush off). CC seems all about how much they can sell you. Ian's fittings seem nothing at all like my CC experience, and from reading the comments it appears that is the opinion of many.
Best advice…don’t know the terms of the sale deal he made with Champion ….is there a non competitor clause for a fix term….that’s normally the standard. But Ian is a sure bet for this kind of business
This was an outstanding video and why I watch Ian and Mike. Everyone's comments are spot on because we are used to what happens in the TXG bays! But all of that being said the content was tremendous and so much of what we as amateur golfers want to see. The more we are educated the more we get from our fitting. You can say no to purchasing from the fitter but you must be educated first. Thank you to Ian and Mike for an excellent video!
I was fit for my irons by Ian. My fitting experience with him was excellent. No hard sell. In fact he even gave me the option of taking the "prescription", as he called it, and going direct to Titleist to get my clubs
So where does someone go that's reputable? Given that I use graphite shafts, seems it may be even more important for a proper fitting. I honestly don't believe going to a gold retailer would be a good choice. Their main goal is selling so that's who you're dealing with. A salesman rather than an experienced fitter. There are sites demonstrating how to do it yourself that seem really easy & you don't need special equipment.
I actually had a fitting yesterday. I went in with a request to get fitted specifically for a shaft and lie-angle with the intention of ordering Takomo irons. With this in mind, the fitting was done with Taylormade P770, P790 and Qi. P790 was definitely the best one of the Taylermade clubs which the fitter told is closest to Takomo 101T. My shots were very toey and hence the lie-angle was set as 2° upright. Still the shots remained a bit toey even if significantly less then earlier. The fitter said that his guidline is that he doesnt go more than 2° in either direction. With this video, I noticed that you guys went up to 4° upright and the lie-angle with the shots was perfectly straight. I am now kind of indecisive whether I should order my clubs 2° or 3° upright because it seemed clear that the lie could still be straighter. I don't know why, but I never asked to try a bigger upright angle and this is now bothering me. Also one thing I consider annoying is when one down-talks other brands or businesses. In this case the fitter was down talking the shaft options available with Takomo, the KBS Tour and Tour Lite series. During the fitting KBS Tour Lite stiff seemed to be the best shaft until it actually broke down and the club-head almost flew off the shaft during my swing. After that we switched to KBS Max stiff and it turned out to be even better. I got some really great shots so in this sense I was really happy. Turns out that the shafts Takomo is offering aren't that bad after all... I got a decent offer for the P790 irons, but budget-wise I think Takomo 101T:s remain my choice for new irons. I was positively surprised that Takomo actually offers KBS Max shafts for customized clubs. I just don't know what to do with the lie-angle... Any advice?
In my nearly 30 years as a PGA member "Custom fitting" has changed massively. Club Champion offers a tremendous service, but it can come at a premium price. Additionally, just like any other fitting service some of the success will be dependent on the quality of the fitter you get, and the quality of your striking that day. Not to be negative as I really like what Club Champion does, I have also heard horror stories of ill fitting sets/upcharges/etc.from Club Champion. Ian and Mike do a great job and are clearly excellent at their craft. All club fitters should strive to get to this level of expertise and understanding.
I wish it was guaranteed that you would get a fitter like Ian or Mikey at other Club Champion locations, but it’s just not the case. My Club Champion fitter tried fitting me after telling me the spin readings on their Trackman were not working. Or the putter fitting i went to where i had to imagine the graphite shaft on one putter, on the head that was best for me on another putter, at the correct length, which would be 4 inches shorter than i was testing. That was the perfect putter for me, 3 parts of 3 different putters that i had no ability to test. That seems to be the more realistic Club Champion experience. All those close by in Canada, consider yourselves super lucky.
I hope these fitting philosophies get spread in the US locations. I have asked what ball they had in the bay and noticed it was a mix of Prov1 and ProV1x. Fitter said dont worry about which one I am hitting because it won't make a difference. Also find it weird the fitters can sign contracts with companies and thats what they tend to promote more in the fitting.
Agree with most of these comments. I too went to club champion. Fitter didn’t seem so know anything. When I asked what ball we should use and if I should use my own. He said It didn’t matter. I did go with his suggestion and expect the club in next week, so we will see. I just don’t feel my fitter personally was very knowledgeable… I even asked to see strike location and we looked at it once… for the whole 2 hours I was there…atleast he didn’t try to upsell me. I knew going in it wasn’t going to be cheap. Got fitted into Ai smoke triple diamond. Ventus red TR red 6S. 100MPH club speed.
Enjoyed the knowledge sharing from the TXG Channel. Disappointed TXG went away and became Club Champ because the CC reputation in my area is not good. From other comments, it sounds like a common theme. Had a CC customer tell me they were told by CC the shafts they were fit to were an upcharge shaft. I know the mfr rep and he confirmed they were not. Also met a guy who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. Had been "fit" by CC in MN. Driver set him back about $1,200. What a waste. From what I've seen, Club Champ is interested in maximizing average order size more than anything else. Sincerely hope CC Mgmt reads these comments and make some changes. If not, I hope to see a return of the independent TXG. Actually I would like to see independent TXG regardless of what CC does. Keep up the good work lads!
I truly believe that Ian and Mikey know what they are talking about. However, I have had 2 really bad fittings at a Club Champion location in the states.
I agree. Unfortunately Club Champion thinks by hiring Ian that people will think they are getting the fitting Ian gives but unfortunately Club Champion does not hire professional fitters. Just guys that look at a screen and have no idea how to fit you correctly
I am lucky enough to have the guy who fits and builds Abraham Ancers miuras where I live. His fittings are usually 2 to 3 hours for $150 and it's an amazing experience, goes through every possible option and detail with you, great guy.
Another top notch fitting, great job guys another satisfied customer. I sure wish you weren't 1650 km away from here. You guys ever think of setting up on the east coast, I would be your first customer. Thanks for another awesome video. That's all I got, see ya's!
Got fit at Club Champion last week. Very similar experience to this episode. I hit 3 or 4 iron heads...3 or 4 shafts... Dialed in the best combo for my game (not the longest combo but the most efficient). TSR2 Driver/3wood and VA shafts got me ONLY a few more yards but more importantly predictable ball flights and spin rates to get better over all performance... I'm glad I took the plunge. The extra 50% in cost in upgraded shafts and lie-changes is the "value" of the fitting process. Without that investment, my game would be the same just with NEWER sticks. The difference between CC and the other guys is that ur paying for the correct shaft diagnosis and lie modifications.
Got fitted at a club champion last year in RI and i wish it was like this… i simply got fitted for the most expensive setup and the fitting was done. A year later my irons are all over the place because it wasn’t fit for my swing getting faster like it should be
Did you communicate if you were intended to increase your speed and wanted to be fit for that? If so, I’m sure many fitters would try to accommodate if pressed, or better yet, communicate that you should come for a fitting then - when you have the speed you want to be fit for.
@@blankify8819 i'm assuming you're a junior golfer... you should've told them to put you into something stiffer shafted. It isnt the end of the world though. you can still change ths shafts on your clubs and sell the old shafts and it wouldbe be that much money
Love all the comments here. My one time I went to club champion in 2019 it was a massive sales pitch, will never go back. Any of my buddies that have gone always get fit into a ultra premiuim shaft. All about the $$. Someone like Ian is what makes the differance.
I once did a fitting for a driver where the fitter never discussed a shorter shaft than 45”, but he ended up ordering a 44.5” shaft. It was only by chance I noticed that in the order because otherwise I would have gotten a shaft that was never discussed at the fitting. I don’t know if 44.5 or was better 45, but since that was never discussed or tested at the fitting I was pretty pissed with the fitter making that change. That experience made me rethink fittings at that company (certainly I will never go to that location again). Trust is very important!
I recently went to be fit for new fairway woods. I requested to be fit to stock shaft offerings and was informed they don't do that. I had prepaid and driven over 2 hours to get there so proceeded with the fit. In the end I was fit to a nice aftermarket setup that was $1000+ per club. Total waste of my day and money. This was at a new Club Champion in Canada. I wish there would have at least been something on their website when booking, that explained this.
Being honest unless you get fit by a PGA professional or someone who has fitted tour player's.. the majority in golf shops are just sales assistants who play the game!!
I’m not a pga professional or have fitted many tour players. That’s a poor take. I know a ton of great fitters that are neither of the above. I also know the above that are awful at fitting.
@@mikemartysiewicz it's my opinion based on experiences after playing the game for 34 year's... obviously exceptions but I'm not going to dismiss your opinion and to say mine is a poor take is dismissing my many poor experiences before realising. Often at an extreme cost!!
I have to agree that nearly every time I’ve had a fitting it’s been based on what I thought I needed, and not what I actually needed. This is an eye opener for me. Well done guys. PS I think I’ll try playing tennis if it gets your speed up like that…. wow!
I recently had a long-game fiting at Club Champion. I was expecting the hard sales pitch based on feedback I heard from friends, but to my surprise, my existing driver out performed anything we were testing so the fitter advised me to keep what I have until the face cracks. However, on the 3-wood we made loft and weight placement adjustments but the 3-wood was delivered stock without adjustments and there were no notes in the system from the fitting to know what adjustments we need to make. I will need to go back again within 90 days to have it checked out. Nice to know I can go back, but still I shouldn't have to spend more time doing that. Especially after spending A LOT of money on three clubs with upgraded shafts.
I’ve been to a few different places in my time but Club Champion fitting in Glasgow is different league to what most people think of a fitting. Just finished a driver fitting after getting irons last year and went on the advice of the fitter 100%. What I walked out with was probably not what I had in my head when I went in but boy the clubs work. Trust the fitter and go somewhere decent to get fit. Great video again and shows exactly what it’s about. 🤙
It’s funny that he mentions keeping the player in the same shaft he’s using. I’ve used the Project X 6.0 for about 16 years now. I’ve been to CC twice and neither time did they actually have me hit any shots with those shafts. They always start with the Aerotech Steel Fiber and recommend a D5 swing weight. Last time I went, I just narrowed down the iron heads I liked (coincidentally, the T300), then went to a Titleist rep for a further fitting. He started to have me hit other shafts, then looked at what I was using, had me hit them with the 6.0 and said just stick with those shafts.
Maybe the txg guys will realize after this comment section that they are the exception at club champion & not the rule. CC in general seems to have at least 50% negative experience stories. Most cc fitters are just salesmen who have been trained on what numbers to look for & it shows. Add on top of that it’s expensive, would be fine, if every fitting was the quality of an Ian or Mikey. Would be nice if they could infect the rest of the company & cause changes to the dna of how they operate.
I had a putter fitting at Club Champion, they didn’t have very many putters, they were using Sam putt lab which is obsolete plus the guy didn’t seem to know how to use it well. Turns out he had been a caddy and returned to caddying not long after. Needless to say the putter recommended didn’t work well for me. On top of that they were more expensive for a driver fitting than a local top 100 fitter, I won’t be going back. I wish I was closer to TXG
I actually had a decent putter fitting at CC a couple of years ago and love my putter. The iron fitting not so much and don’t get me started on their business model!
Seems to me there is a difference between CC USA and CC Canada - AKA TXG. Been fit multiple times and Tim and Dave in Calgary Canada are two of the best I have seen. Knowledgeable and can look at your swing and actually analyze what you are doing and fit to not only the numbers, but what the see and hear from you in regards to feel. I was fitted into an iron set I would have never thought to use and I am happier every time I hit them. No hesitation to go to any CC in Canada with fitters trained by Ian and Mike. Maybe they need to head through the US and clean up some people there. Great video.
I was also recently fitted in Calgary at the club champion on mcleod by dave and really enjoyed my experience, got a new set of irons and learnt a lot about my swing during the fitting, never felt like I was being sold anything I didn't need. I would do it again
In the states, Ping is the absolute leader in custom fittings, hands down. No one can complete. They have PHD's that only work on fitting. They have the complete Arrcos database of millions of shot of real users of their products. They have detailed data of millions of shots to know which shafts work best their equipment. They have Ballnamic data base of the most extensive ball data available. The web fit tool is based off thousands of real world fitting and can get you scary close to you final spec. None of their fittings have any added cost to you unless you need or want an upcharge shaft which are the real deal shafts and available at a reasonable fee. Quality of the build is fantastic and have a fitting concierge that follows up with you. Sorry to geek out on Ping but they just do it right and have for a long long time.
Well said, and spot on. PING has been a leader in fitting for decades now, and further to that, their engineering and fitting tools are getting more advanced and useful to the customer day by day. PING rocks.
Wish all locations went through your thoroughness. Prior to you joining Club Champion I had a very poor experience in Charlotte NC, then tried GolfTech and they built my clubs with the wrong shafts in my iron set and would not take them back. The shafts had no markings and the step in the shaft didn’t match the Elevate shaft they should have been. Happened during Covid but still no excuse for how I was treated. My best experience was Tru Spec in Pinehurst with a driver fitting. They were thorough and I didn’t feel hustled, but the cool part was after the indoor part of the fitting we moved outdoors to complete.
Amazing work. He said it best. What do you want is what most local fits do. More of distance is not always best. Zac will be down from 12 is a hurry! Wish you were closer to me!!
Huge fan of your channel. In fact, best on fittings I have followed. I’ve tried to discuss custom fittings and book one without success. Both Mike and Ian on this fitting which is obviously not a standard fitting of 1-1.5 hours, would be a great fitting. Reality, cost would be $400 for an hour which this fitting was obviously a longer fitting than 1hour. Love what you guys do 100%. Let’s be honest here though. Fittings like this are not available without the marketing aspect.
Fittings like this are standard at the Canadian CC stores that used to be TXG. The non TXG ones are terrible, but the CC/TXG ones are even more detailed than this.
$400 an hour for a great fitting seems reasonable. The problem is that the incentives are mixed up when the fitter is also trying to sell me a specific kind of club.
I have a bad feeling after my CC fitting. I ended with with a set of T200s and I was shocked at the price. I am embarrassed now to admit I paid nearly double the $1300 list price (5I though AW) even though I got pretty near stock shafts. It was too awkward for me to ask "why are these so much more than list price?". My fault though, I don't blame anybody but me. The issue now is that I'm not even sure I want to take them out of the box. I've considered looking to 2nd Swing to see how much I could recoup.
This makes me pretty sick. I managed to avoid a similar scenario by saying I wanted to think about it. What you could do is ask what happened to the stock shafts and grips you paid for in the club head price. That way you could resell those shafts to recoup some of the overpayment. Doubt they’d do it but no harm in asking.
First, this is a favorite if not my most favorite golf YT channel. I rarely miss any of your videos. Thanks for all the insight shared. My problem with this video is that it couldn’t be further from the service provided by club champion. It’s unfortunate that your name is tied to this company.
I got a fitting at a big box golf store and was poorly fitted. I went to my local club champion location recently for a second opinion and it was a drastic change from the big box store. My club length was wrong and my lie angle was also off. They got me sorted out for my driver and got me into a hybrid. also I will be going back to the guys to get my wedges and iro ns dialed in. Great videos guys thank you for the help.
I loved this video. But I had a full bag fitting at club champion here in vegas last week. It wasn’t like this at all. I mean, great service and club options. But the knowledge that Ian and Mike bring to their fittings feels nothing like what I got. I would genuinely love to eliminate the left side of the golf course for me. It was not like that for me at all.
I would agree, standard deviation is a BIG factor to take into account when doing a fitting. As a fitter myself, I would always look at how consistent a player is with a club make up. I couldnt in good faith let someone buy a club they couldnt hit consistent
Only pre requisite I have going into an iron fitting is that i need to hit Graphite. I don't swing super fast, but im also not super slow. Most people in my speed range use steel and most fitters look at me funny when i say i need graphite, but i just like the feel better 🤷♂️ i literally had a fitter try to tell me steel was better before he even saw my swing and really did not want to have me try graphite. I insisted and even while i was hitting with the graphite shafts was making comments like "see youre more consistent with the steel" and when we looked at the data after i actually hit it further with the graphite shaft and had very similar dispersion if not slightly better lol. I'd absolutely love to get fitted by someone like you guys, someone who cares about finding what truly works best for the customer. Sadly not all fitters love the process.
I spent 1k at Club Champion in June of last year, to take my current irons and get the right shafts and swing weights right. Swing weights to D5. It isn’t the easiest to do, but when they all come out at E4-E5 like I just found out a month ago, makes a guy a little disappointed to spend that much for precision and it’s that far off.
All information you have passed along these passed few years has been excellent. I've watch since you were TXG, I see that a TXG (Club Champion) has opened up in Calgary. Did you (Ian) oversee the setup of this new branch? I'm looking to book a fitting but wanted to make sure your touch was included. Thanks James
I've been fit by a company in Scottsdale where pros go. It cost a ton of money. It helped me understand the fitting process. Now i know the lie and loft i need so I can buy used clubs that work. I like Pxg because the do a mod range fitting that gets you close enough. Pxg won't force you into the upgraded shafts like the club champion type fitters who make their money off all the components. Ian is unique and if you can afford him, go for it.
Hopefully Ian can impact positive change at Club Champion and bring this level of insight and care to each fitting. It is all about the fitter and unfortunately CC has far too many stories about poor fittings and upsell tactics. My dad went to CC and it was all "ball speed ball speed ball speed" and had we not both gotten good knowledge from watching TXG videos for years we wouldn't have known what was happening.
Very informative, funny you guys should release this video as I had the same issue as your client. Got fitted into a product that wasn’t right for my game. Noticed I was very low spinning 3500rpm with 7 iron. Changed this season into a retro spec ping set. Completely changed my dispersion, control, and distances.
Thanks again Ian and Mike. Your fitting videos are second to none. Quick question. Should anyone with a driver swing speed of 95mph ever consider playing a driver at 9deg.
So actually got fit at CC in Nebraska when I lived there after watching these guys for a few months. My experience was actually pretty spot on to how the videos are. Now, are all the fitters gonna be as good as Ian, probably not. But he did get me into a good set of clubs that fit me at the time as not playing for almost 20 years. Would I go back. Yes.
I was fitted last year for a full bag at a well know golf store in Ontario Canada and it was my first time I ever had new clubs I was so excited my irons was a great experience but it left me very little time for my woods and I was rushed through this part of my fitting I am now trying to sell the driver I was fit for ended up just buying a ping g425 max stiff shaft and was fitted for mizuno stx230 reg flex and could not keep it straight
Ian, you are the only one giving the proper attention to the customer. I’ve been to two different Club Champions (Chicago and Milwaukee) each one worse than the other. Condescending, rude and rushed me through my fitting and like a dumbass I bought an over priced driver each time. Club Champion is the worst
LOVED this video ... my fitter at the store blends really well with my understanding of things .... but u guys are off the planet another level ... would be a dream to be able to visit one day ... ;) You should be proud of you Ian for all u done on here since day one .... hard and great work young man ... and of course those with u through it all.... no man does this alone ... thx and keep it up buddy ;)
Great video which reinforces how fantastic Ian is as a club fitter. I’m very surprised and disappointed at all the negative feedback in the comments section on Club Champion fittings. I had begun to buy into the hype that as part of a chain there must be consistency of standards and certainly not the upselling which seems to be a major complaint. I would think this deserves an official response - no smoke without fire as the old adage goes........
I got fitted for wedges last year. We looked at the numbers, and had certain things that we were looking to achieve in terms of gapping. However, what is came down to in the end really was "which one do you like the best?" Feels a little bit what you are trying to steer away from, but the fitter was addiment that with wedges it came more down to what I was liking and feeling comfortable with. Just curious if you feel similar that wedges can be more just feel and preference.
A lot of hate on club champion in the comments but I had a great experience in the Boise Idaho area. The fitter was very thorough, interviewed carefully, and spent time on misses and not just “best shots.” Also, I wanted to get fit for woods same day and the fitter I was fatigued after driver fitting, he suggested we’d get better results if I came back fresh. He made a couple adjustments on my gamers for the mean time. Had a great experience.
I got fit at the Club Champion (formerly Pureform Golf) in Brisbane while on holiday because my state doesnt have one at all. Jaydon there had me for my driver, woods and hybrids fitting and I learned so much about myself and my swing there didnt have any pressure to buy or pick a certain shaft, just genuinely tried to maximise my distance and give me something I would be happy with. I gained 30 METRES on my old Callaway Rogue Sub Zero. Couldnt reccommend the fitting process there more (except goddamn they need better AC lol). I did find I cant hit hybrids to save my life, no matter the setup but I stripe Callaway AI Smoke woods specifically just because the head visuals put my mind at ease and let me swing. I got to try all the brands I wanted (only about 3 I REALLY wanted to try) and was given others to feel out, experiment with midsize grips, retry my driver mid-set (important) and I settled with something Im very happy with shaft wise as he just changed up shafts on me with some of my feedback and looked at the performance. The fitting cost was totally reasonable for the knowledge and data you get back ($250 for all 3 clubs). But the build cost is what really gets you, proper boutique shafts are NOT cheap but the selection was backed by data and left up to me to make the call and I chose to go all out. Callaway Max AI Smoke driver, Max D 3 wood and 7 wood with Draco shafts in correct stiffness for me. 3.5k total is eye watering but Id rather my tools be as perfect for me as they can so the only other issue to work on is me 😂 takes out the questions during learning and training. My mistake was not realising they had one in Brisbane and not getting fit here before I bought my whole set of Mizuno Pro 221 irons, I likely would have fit in a KBS shaft at about 100-105 instead of 120 or gotten a putter fitting. Now I know and Ill be back, if anything for the data and knowledge alone.
Never seen a 12 handicapper hit shots like that in my life before 😂Enjoy your new sticks and new handicap Zak😂😂 Great session to watch once again get me on a plane to Canada 👍
I got custom fit 2 years ago at golftown for irons…I have a fitting coming up, I’m hoping and expecting this to be what I had imagined a fitting to be!
Two days ago I had a fitting at the Mississauga location. I felt so disappointed with the experience. I chose Club Champion for 2 reasons. I was fit by TXG a few years ago for a driver and had a great experience with the other reason being I wanted to try the signature irons from Haywood. When the fitting began I was told you did not have that head to be able to try it. Now I am thinking you deliberately aren't making it available because you don't make enough money on them. During the fitting I was never offered to hit any irons with stock shafts in order to compare the recommended premium shaft. Again because you won't make as much on the sale of stock shafts. Everything was an upsell. It was all very discouraging. In no way am I blaming the fitter . He was just doing his job. His recommendations were great but the price was way too high for me thus the Haywood Signature irons. Ian you have lost a customer.
If you had a specific head you wanted to try, why not call ahead of your fitting or before booking to insure that its available? Additionally, I have found in fittings if there is a specific combo I would like to try or something I want to hit for comparison, I ask for it. At the end of the day, the fitting is for you and you should be able to try what you want to. It make take sometime away from dialing in a perfect fit, but if there is something you adamantly want to try, it's reasonable to ask.
I did call and was told they carry Haywoods. The Haywood website gave them as a location for fittings. Haywood only has a choice of 3 or 4 heads. I completed their pre fitting questionaire stating I wanted to try Haywoods.@@ahastar1141
I did ask if they carried Haywood irons when I called before I made the appointment. I also told them in the pre fitting questionnaire that I was interested in the Haywoods. Haywood only has 3 or 4 different heads for an iron set. @@ahastar1141
@@ahastar1141the problem is when you ask to hit a ‘stock shaft’ they just tell you they buy the heads separately and to them there are no ‘stock shafts’ so they basically refuse to let you hit them!!
I was recently fit at CC in Houston and I had a great experience. Nick was knowledgeable and I was not rushed. The sad but truth of the matter is, no matter what I was fit into I already knew I was not purchasing through CC. Their prices are just to inflated on top of equipment that is already over priced. The other issue I have with them is the universal hosel used... lets face it the masses do not need to be swinging drivers in D8 swing weight. The inability to be able to try different swing weights is ridiculous. Also Ian, you guys at "TXG" are able to blow grips on and off why is this not possible at CC?
Yeah!!! My grip at my fitter was about worn through to the shaft. My driver was also at D8. Which I guess was “ok” but we ordered it in d6… haven’t received it yet.
@@bullitt8986 That's an issue... you are now technically ordering a driver that you did not test. Few grams may not seem like a whole lot, but I can tell a difference. Hope its no issue for you and you love your driver.
@@spothos you’re right. Didn’t think of it at the time and trusted the fitter. I was the one who even asked what the swing weight of the driver was I was hitting so we measured it. Was almost D8. He said because of the adapter the true driver is probably around D6. FAILED to mention that going down two swing weights will probably change some things. Luckily my grip will have a few extra wraps so if needed take some off or get a heavier weight in the head. I ended up being fit into a Ai smoke TD with ventus red TR 6s. Which isn’t far off a fitting I had last year. Which was zx5 LS ventus blue through srixon.
@@spothos I’m the king of spin. Any high MOI driver I hit my spin is around 3600 RPM. with LS drivers it really helps, bringing it down to about 2400. I know my swings to blame but don’t know how to fix it. Trying to work on my angel of attack. Current AOA is +1 at best. 13 handicap.
My buddy got fit for a TSR2 driver. Got charged full price $599 for just the head and then $499 for the Ventus Black 6x shaft. You'd think removing the stock shaft should bring the head only price down.
Stopped by a Club Champion in Orlando yesterday and decided it was not for me. They want over $500 for the driver head only and add in another $350 for the shaft and the total cost would be almost $900 and that didn't include a shaft upgrade. Clearly this is not for everyone. Lots of negative comments. I wonder if Ian and Mikey read these comments and what their thoughts are...
This is the biggest issue with them - the business model…it just screams never come back. The fit I had with them was ‘ok’ what they fit me into was still top 3 when I went to a local fitter the next week
Spent $1000 on a driver fitting here in 2012. Worst club i ever purchased. Get referrals from others before choosing a fitter. Ian is awesome. My guy was a part timer.
Bring back TXG, i got fit at the Toronto location and it was awesome. The even offered free loft and lie review with purchase of clubs. I setup my review and then when club champion took over i was told it was no longer available and I would have to pay for it to be done. Very upsetting and frustrating as I bought the product with the benefit of getting that free review.
What are your thoughts on Foreward golf also known as Matched up golf fittings and his ideology around fitting irons. Isolating bounce, lie, length, weight/swingweight, shaft flex, shaft kickpoints to create the "tiger strike" (using foot spray to see if bottom of ball is on the bottom groove of club)? The thought is what combination gives you the best chance to catch the ball first and turf second to achieve the most consistent distance/shot shape.
Somewhat confused as to whether this is an ironic middle finger up at Club Champion from the TXG boys knowing how bad their fittings are and the ridiculous upselling that goes on or if they’re totally ignorant to it?! The fitting I had at CC was fine but the pushing of exotic shafts even when asked about stock shafts was ridiculous. Quote was nearly $2,500 for 4 irons after puring etc. The week after went to an independent golf shop, hit a number of stock shafts which weren’t great but then tried the c taper lite and it was a big improvement over the exotic shafts at CC and ended up being a third of the price. It would have been great to see Zach’s spec sheet with prices to see if TXG follows the CC policy of charging full price for club heads (including stock shaft and grip) and keeping those components rather than give them to the customer who bought them. A lot of training needs to be done by Ian to restore the highly damaged CC brand and hopefully that will happen!
I'm getting an iron fit with Cam and its been a blast :D! I would love to play a round with Zack, I have similar speed as him and handicap about the same. Also you can tell right away when Zack got the right club in hand it sounds completely different.
I have been fitted at club champion twice for driver and both times was fit into stock drivers you would buy direct from the oem. In 6’5 and swing around 110mph. Water off time and money
Here before the video gets taken down. TXG will always be the gold standard. Club champion corp lizards can pound sand.
I feel like with all the negative comments, Club Champion should consider sending Ian around to different locations, observing their fitting practices, and making some changes. I would love to get a fitting from someone like Ian, but it does shake my confidence in going to Club Champion to get a similar experience.
The incentive structure does not match, least amount of time to get the most expensive clubs in a customers hand.
Fully. Club Champion could give less than a crap about the fit. They want to sell.
Couldn’t agree more
Whats funny is i got fit for PXG irons.. and you described exactly how the pxg fitter acted.. he looked bored and could care less. I did buy some gen5 irons, not because of the great fitting experience
Found the Facilities great, not all top brands were available or they couldn't be bothered asking me, the Upscaling was too $$$$$$, total 7k for ping irons and TM woods is ridiculous, There was something lacking in hindsight, there was not a lot of feedback from the fitter, just the good shot, well struck, lets change to this etc etc.
you are absolutely bang on @jarellcardoza1806
I've tried two different locations with the same issues. I will never go back.
Club champion’s fitting really did not meet expectations. Don’t expect someone like Ian to work with you
I got a fit at club champion too. very disappointed with the fitting itself but got fit into the t150s and i love the clubs though!
Had a putter fitting at club champion and it was awful.
What CC did you get fit at? The Canada CC fittings that used to be TXG are still the best fitting you can get. The regular CC fittings still suck
I went to club champion in Orlando Florida. It was a complete sales trip. Felt like I was at a car lot
Austin too
Glad I read this. Thanks
Next time drive just north to Jax/Fleming Island and go see Bryan LaRoche @Bryan Golf. It’s worth the drive
@dronepocket325 try Moon Golf in Vero.
I’m terrified to go to one and be told I have to pure my shafts. What a bunch of nonsense.
@@ZahraIsMyDogpure isn't bad. But a manual flo will do just as good. Definitely look into spinning and FLO for your next set.
Champion bought a competitor …that’s life unfortunately….Ian is happy like a pig rolling in the mud but we the clients must be aware and beware.
Recently had a fitting at CC and at no point was I ever asked what ball I play. The difference in these videos to reality is not even close. The final quote I received was legit jaw dropping.
What CC was it? The only CC that do a good fitting are the Canadian ones that used to be TXG. All the rest are fucking terrible
it's the Ian difference, not the club champion difference. False advertising.
so true
went with them and got fit and got screwed lol
Same here.
@christiansouthard5677 who was your fitter
@ghnelson745 where did you.go..and who was your fitter
@@dang4153 not rude at all. If I had been doing that prior to my fitting, I wouldn’t have gone to begin with.

Exactly this
Guess I'm lucky...I have an iron fitting coming end of the month and was lucky to get a fitting with Ian himself...hopefully goes well ...I'll let you.guys know if ya want me to post my experience here
Well, I’m heading back to Ian and Mike’s facility next week.
The problem is the word affordable. You pay for what you get and it is a premium service.
I completely agree, the main issue of club fitting is that there are too many “lemons” out there (including at Club Champion).
Don't forget to mention that most of these places are using trackman indoors
Yeah I had a terrible experience at my club champion. I've never been back
Ian and Mikey are just next level.
Ian needs to start a school with a certification for fitters. Fitters around the country are terrible
Best advice…don’t know the terms of the sale deal he made with Champion ….is there a non competitor clause for a fix term….that’s normally the standard.
But Ian is a sure bet for this kind of business
I was "fitted" at Club Champion as well. I left completely dissatisfied. The Ian/TXG club fitting is very different from a Club Champion fitting.
Wish there was a ranking system for fitters. Not sure how that would be verified but it’s needed.
Any advice?
You can always get them re-adjusted. Order them at 3 and then bend them more up or down depending on your results.
You may be slightly over thinking this, I agree with Esonds comment
I fail to see how the ball would matter for a fitting. For lessons, yes.

I agree gone to club champion 2 times and questioned was it worth it?
and the answer is, no.
I am lucky enough to have the guy who fits and builds Abraham Ancers miuras where I live. His fittings are usually 2 to 3 hours for $150 and it's an amazing experience, goes through every possible option and detail with you, great guy.

$1000.00 per club! My God! I had no idea.
PS I think I’ll try playing tennis if it gets your speed up like that…. wow!
Check out a vid of Nadal’s swing. It’s wild. He hits a driver like he’s hitting a backhand.
It looked like the dispersion circles were smaller with both the P770 and i230 vs the T150.
That was awesome, way different than the fitting I had in 2018.
Opening sounds exactly what happened with me last year at Club Champion in Short Pump, Richmond VA horrible experience after spending 6k
PING rocks.
I'll have to look for PING fitting videos and see.
This totally sounds like a real person.
totally real dude@@Kaddywompous
I like their podcast about fitting called ping proving grounds.

They got me sorted out for my driver and got me into a hybrid. also I will be going back to the guys to get my wedges and iro
ns dialed in.
The only CC that gives good fittings are the Canadian run ones that used to be TXG
I would agree, standard deviation is a BIG factor to take into account when doing a fitting. As a fitter myself, I would always look at how consistent a player is with a club make up. I couldnt in good faith let someone buy a club they couldnt hit consistent
TXG needs to teach club fitting to the Club Champion staff.
Part of the"fitting training" is to Google the clients address to see if they're rich or not and how much you can upsell.
If only actual Club Champion fitting was like this!
I had my shafts frequencies tested and they came back at regular/seniors flex and they’re bending like crazy. Need to get fit asap!
So basically this guy went from an every day fitting by a random at a Club Champion to a TH-cam fitting by Ian. Yeah it’s different.
Im a lefty and recently got fitted for a set of Titleist T 100. When they turned up, they were right handed!
You know we LOVE these fitting videos. Thanks for another great one! I'm gonna have to drive to Canada.
All information you have passed along these passed few years has been excellent. I've watch since you were TXG, I see that a TXG (Club Champion) has opened up in Calgary. Did you (Ian) oversee the setup of this new branch? I'm looking to book a fitting but wanted to make sure your touch was included.
Thanks
James
In fairness to CC when I had my full bag for the fitter did say we could split it in two and I could comeback another time for fairways and wedges
I hope you go through the rest of this guys bag and fit him for everything! Would love to see you dial him in like that with his woods & driver.
$3,500 for three clubs?! Holy crap.
Ian. Take a stock graphite set and show how much the frequency is off between the shafts in the set. One will play regular, one sr, and so on
Never seen a 12 handicapper hit shots like that in my life before 😂Enjoy your new sticks and new handicap Zak😂😂 Great session to watch once again get me on a plane to Canada 👍
I love when a fitter asks at the customer "what do you want distance or accuracy"
This doesn't need to be asked need to give the customer both.
@@bullitt8986 sounds like we may have some of the same swing tendencies I currently play the Srixon ZX5 LS and was recently fit into the AI Smoke TD
You'd think removing the stock shaft should bring the head only price down.
it never does. and you can buy that shaft online for 350 with the adapter installed...
@@MrICURNVS I know, he got taken big time by them. After he showed me the receipt I couldn't believe it.
I put the King Tours in the bag after your review and absolutely love them.
Went to club champion 7 years ago or so, and ended up being an upselling job.
Payed for the fitting, didn’t buy the driver. Not a do over obviously.
I went to Orlando, FL and it was 10000% sales. I was looking to get putter fit and they were heavy pushing Sik Putter.
