  • In this video Ian and Mike fit Ryan - a lower-handicap golfer to a new set of irons to help him gain distance and lower his ball flight.
Before diving into the fit Ian helps Ryan gain control of his dynamic loft to help add more ball speed, create lower spin and help him hit a draw.

The combination of swing coach, technology and fitting knowledge is why Ian is by far the best fitter out there. It’s why fitting is art and science.

i love seeing these new videos with RB and Mike.
they are absolutely more relatable to us mere mortal golfers in the audience.
As much as i loved Matty boi on the show, he swung a club at a robotic level that will never be achievable for 99% of your audience.
    Onwards and upwards 🙌
    Loving the new content 👌

The word that keeps coming up is “RELATABLE”! Great content lately. Doesn’t mean we don’t like to see Ian rip it and I watch all of Matty’s videos, but this is packed with info we can use when we get to the range and ultimately the course! Well done.

Dude. That tip about not worrying about opening the face at ground parallel is game changing. Since I went and got lessons from my local pro I have some better fundamentals but I have struggled with closing the face consistently because he has me opening it straight up. I will be trying out the cupped wrists thing next time I go to the range. This is why I watch this channel.

It’s not a cupped wrist, that’s the opposite, it’s called wrist Flexion or a bowed wrist. Just good to know which is which

After employing the wrist under tip on the takeaway shot 2 over yesterday and struck irons beautifully and gained 11yds carry per iron. Many thanks Ian, you have a new subscriber from Surrey England

Love that Ian kept trying more clubs after the t100s. It shows he really cares about improving, regardless of brand, and even by the smallest margins. Shows a real passion for achieving data backed results rather than a commission check. Makes me want to save up and fly to Canada just to get fit.

Like someone else I saw in the comments, I had a similar delivery and dynamic loft and had made a similar change (and strengthened my grip some eventually and flattened my lie angles); and it most certainly similarly benefited me. But I know I'm still leaving some on the table with my current irons, so it was great not just to see what they tried and what worked for Ryan, but more so to hear the explanations of the why. I know I might reach a somewhat different outcome given all the variables, but the insights are so helpful in a general sense as I look to get fit with irons to better compliment my own (in this case very similar) delivery. Thank you Ian, Mike and Ryan.

I knew that the club face had to be parallel to the spine angle on the back swing, but to see Ian demonstrate it with someone was gold. That's me hitting it high and short, hopefully this can be addressed at my fitting in March.

Hugely helpful. I imagine the folks at TXG would recommend having a clear intention for your fit, know your miss, your path and face tendencies and how you're hoping technology will help. Been working on the exact same swing changes as Ryan here, you can tell he's the low handicapper though by how quickly he was able to go 4.5 out to in to 1.8 in to out in just one swing! For us average bears, more of a journey.

This was world class. Well done TXG team! It’s funny, I went in to get fit for T100S and Pro 223 this week. It was a coin flip but I ultimately went with the Pro 223 head with Modus3 Tour 120 shaft. I preferred the compact shape and feel/feedback of the T100S but the ever so slightly larger head of the Pro 223 gave me just a little more piece of mind in the forgiveness department. A combo T100S/T200 set would have been awesome though.

@@clubchampionmedia Ian, Onneof my favorite TXG vids. It'd be interesting to see Mike go through the fitting process as well because if I recall, his ball flight is opposite of RB's right? Has trouble with low shots and holding greens?
I have selfish reasons as I used to have RB's flight, made the same changes you've shown in the video and tend to have lower flight, lower spin and balls aren't holding greens like they used to.

Looks like I just had my virtual fit. Struggle with same issues of forearms rolling over and hitting a high weak shot but predictable. Also have similar grip and just like Ian said very hard to change it! Will try the glove hand down drill and need to get me some t100s and Amt! Also love that shaft in other sets. As a shallow player I have also noticed do better with thin soled clubs like p750 which I use now. T100s seems like a good fit! Great video.

For golfers who need maximum shock absorption and who want a heavier shaft that has a “steel-like feel and performance “, I have been creating my own version of the AMT concept by using the KBS TGI graphite shafts, beginning with the 80, 90, or 95 gram shafts in the longest irons (depending on the golfer’s strength and clubhead speed) and progressing to TGI 100 or 110 in their wedges. I have done this for myself (TGI 80 in the 5 through 9 irons, TGI 90 in my PW, and TGI 95 to 100 in my more lofted wedges), and it works great. I like the AMT steel for Ryan, as long as it doesn’t exacerbate the elbow pain.

I can totally relate! "Struggle in the wind", struggle with high floaty shots, even though I have plenty of club head speed. I've been a functional flipper for ever. Using a stronger grip, or bowing the wrist was a panacea at first. And then other days, I'm all over the place and revert back to my floaty, but accurate flip.

Love the video, so relatable swing wise. I was fit for both T100S and 225's and went Mizuno mostly on the basis of confidence in the head size as the Titleist do look a bit intimidating in the lower irons and I couldn't get my head round the plastic back on the T200 for a combo set. Having to change to graphite due to joint issues so really looking forward to the blue box day in a week or so. Much as I love watching Ian and Matty its nice too see someone who swings similar to myself and what the right fit and a little tip can do for you. Great job guys, can you do the same for the driver? Feel like I'm really missing out there so be great to see a similar video on driver/fairway for RB. More of this type of video please, great advert for TXG and as help for us mortals.

Interesting results with his mp20 mmc. My swing speed is a touch slower than his, and my jpx 919 tour is lofted weaker, 30° 6 iron. My carry is usually 182-185. But it comes down to your impact, my hands are always well forward of the ball at contact, effectively delofting the club.

I was very excited to see how much the results improved after the change in take away and wrist angle. That will be my next point to try at the range. Interesting fitting! Currently playing Apex cf16 stiff kbs shafts, great clubs. A bad back dictates an upgrade, Apex 21 are they much better, Rogue st Pro, Mizuno 225s and other choices? Can you please run a bracket in this category, it would be enormously helpful!

When you had RB shift into an inside-out swing path, he needed to stand slightly further away from the ball. Every strike he made with the new swing path was heel-side contact. Prior to that he was able to move more around the sweet as the center of his impact dispersion. Most people who hit fades can stand closer to the ball, whereas hitting draws and hooks rewards a player who stands slightly further away.
