      Even with older volkswagens, they had some app with their car to see status info. They just said after a while, yes we stop this service. Done boom. Like that. That is a bit of a bad move, that person had too much bad experience with volkswagen now drives a Tesla Model Y by the way... funny enough.

    I bought my ID.3 Business 58kWh in Nov. 2020 (no 1st) with ACC, Matrix LED, heated seats and steering wheel, backup camera and heatpump for 32.000EUR (after govt. subsidies). I had not a single issue with the car so far! And after 45000km it still drives as if it was new. The perfect car for my needs. Nowadays I would have to invest 45.000EUR for the same car. THIS IS TOO MUCH VW. I would not buy it for this price!

    I bought an ID.3 about 2.5 years ago, planning to keep it as long as it runs. I agree with many of your points, although for me personally, they are not a problem. I finally got the 3.2 update (took three days at the dealer...) and everything is working fine. I don't need any of the new features that the newer cars get, but I can understand the frustration people have with the way VW has handled the situation. It really feels like they didn't think things through and rushed the car out.

    I visited my local VW dealer in Sept 2021 looking for my first EV, they had a standard range ID3 and a 77kw long range, I asked prices and was told both cars were sold, they had no stock and no idea when they would have or what the prices would then be. The salesman then just walked away, he did me a favour as on way home I popped in the Kia garage and an ENiro in steel grey was parked outside. It had everything I wanted and one was avail in the same colour in 3 weeks so I ordered it. 2 years later and it has never missed a beat everything just works. In summer it does 290-315miles on a charge and winter 260/270. The app has many functions and I use the hvac often to cool it remotely in summer and Defrost it in winter. There is also room under the boot floor for a full size spare wheel.

      I was at VW this month and was very disappointed. It was clear salesman did not care about EVs (we took 30 min drive).
      KIA? Different story! Coffee, cakes, happy salesman who showed me everything what is in car (Alsol eNiro), what features it had. But I still like ID.3 most (and Tesla 3) and since I need about 1 year more to save enough money ... they have time to improve! But Niro was really good ride :)

    I agree with your points and yes it is sad for us that VW does make so fast changes to the car in a relatively short time. But that is developement and I cannot say something bad about it.
    But 1 important thing is more than NOT OKAY: This way to slow computer hardware in our car.
    That was a very bad "saving too many cents" decicion in the first run. Today the ID3 has still this too slow computer inside until next year with the next facelift. VW should offer an upgrade of this computer system inside the car - not for free - but for a price that does not make extra money for VW, because here they really failed at the customer and my picture of VW is still harmed in a big way.
    This part is the reason for not getting future updates, not getting new software features including a button to start battery heating for fast charging.
    Therefore I have a 3 year OLD electric car @home.
    For that reason I am still not recommending anyone to buy a new VW and myself will not buy one, too.
    Sadly the only way beeing heard by the management is not giving this big company our hard earned money.

    Thankyou Chris - the information you have presented helped me make an informed decision about my ID.3 and the potential challenges. I really like the car and receiving mine with 3.2 in March from the Factory was great; albeit I didn't have a choice when I ordered it last year - I have the Life Model that was the only model I could order.
    That I could have got a better spec if I had waited was unknown at the time. The money I saved I by ordered when I did I will keep aside to cushion any residual value challenges I may have. I'm also conscious of the arrival of model updates before I decide what to get next. Especially so in the UK with the delays to some of the updates on the Right Hand Drive. Again thankyou for sharing what information you have in previous videos.
    I'm quite tall and the ID.3 has an excellent mix of small size and great space inside; if only they were to release an awd version then I would buy that. The ID.7 looks nice but I don't want a car as big and as expensive as that. I have a few years to wait and watch with interest to see what comes on to the market.

Buzz coming, i heard through my old VW relations that we will see only 400 cars of both models, only in Q4 2024, here in Canada. My heart is broken but a Volvo EX30 is on its way for me in spring. Looking at my car (Enyaq) coming from ICE. Software wise it is almost exactly the same as the ICE models, which makes the software good for me because I already knew how layout and the user interface was. Very happy also with how all the Assist systems work, and they work even better than my parent’s Model 3 Autopilot in my opinion. Tesla have set the norm for how software should work. My daughter's ID.3 spent 3 days in the dealership to get an update to 3.0. They also charged €200 simply to look at the batteries and power cables. VW are creating "service" items just to support their dealer network, it seems. On top of that, the staff were unpleasant to deal with. I don't mind newer cars coming through, as I spent my working life selling PCs, where there was always something new. Not offering v4 software for three year old cars is shooting themselves in the foot. You are very brave to take on another VW EV, given the experiences of early adopters of their offerings and the way they have been treated since. My daughter has told me when it comes time to change, VW won't be on the list for consideration.

      Finally, while I have little love for Tesla (Musk mainly lol) you got to hand it to them.

    Thanks Chris, thought this was a good honest set of reflections and I am sorry for your frustration. Looking back on the launch period, in retrospect and in the cold light of day it does seem bizarre and hard to explain. How could VW release a car that was only half-finished (OK, a slight exaggeration, but you get my drift)? And why did early enthusiasts buy into the empty promises of OTA upgrades and continual future enhancement etc? Either way, the cost in terms of reputation to VW is surely huge. In future, caveat emptor.

    In the North American market, the CCS vs NACS business is the huge thing standing out. I think every major EV automaker except for VW/Audi has announced they are switching to NACS. And those that have announced a switch are also promising to provide adapters for older cars so they can use the Tesla superchargers.
    It is hard to overstate how bad the CCS chargers are in North America. Lots of broken chargers, and an insufficient number of chargers. Lots of the blame goes to Electrify America (which is a VW subsidiary), but other charge point operators also have their problems with reliability.

    Another slightly annoying thing is that the car connects to the servers only via the 4G network and that is not always reliable. If the car is in an underground garage, for example, the signal is weak / non-existent.

      Even my Land Rover connects seamlessly to my home wifi if the signal is stronger than the 4G signal and JLR is usually ridiculed for its poor incar iT but I’ve never had a problem getting any of the many OTA updates in either of the “connected” Range or Land Rovers I’ve owned. I live out in the countryside where 4G is not great so being able to use home wifi for updates is really useful. My Mini Cooper is the same.
      I had a weekend loan of an ID3 before I purchased my Mini EV - I loved the ID3 exterior but the interior and software was awful and I probably will never buy a VAG car in the future because it isn’t just VW that has iT issues, I have a friend with a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo that never seems to be out of the dealership workshop with software and iT issues - most recently it has had no cabin heating (not even the heated seats or steering wheel) at all which isn’t great now we are getting into winter and so far it’s been E weeks in the work shop while they try to fix that issue and he got no loan car…………..

If we order now for delivery in may we will get the 12" screen but not the backlit one because that require a new hardware or the next software 4.0. You mentioned a new motor next year. Is this a fact or just a rumour? If VW will introduce yet another upgrade just a couple of months after we get our car, I think the ID3 is a no go for now. A pity because the car is easy to like. It seems like there’s problem of misguided expectations. VW, and the other manufacturers, are to blame for a lot of it, but some of it is on the buyers, as well. I own a Hyundai IONIQ 5. I'm pretty grateful for getting battery preconditioning recently, but should I have expected it? Maybe we should buy these cars based on what they offer at the time of purchase. On the other hand, it feels like the manufacturers have been dangling things like V2H/V2G in front of their customers, when it always seems to be a couple years off. And don't get me started on Tesla and FSD.
    I think it's reasonable to expect software updates that make improvements to the UI/nav etc, but maybe we shouldn't expect new "features." If the manufacturers try to use future features as a selling point, that's a whole other story.

    One problem with ID3, and ID4 is the interior. And I don’t really mean the hard plastics (which are now fixed in the facelift). It’s just that it looks like an interior from an utilitarian van. I hate those seat-integrated armrests, whenever I drive ID3 or 4, it feels cramped and my arm never rests on those properly as they are too close to me. Just put in a standard armrest, it would also give more storage space!
    Just fix the interior. Please.

    The hardware just cannot be updated easily and that's a mindset that car makers don't have yet whereas I have a 20 year old computer case that has had every internal component updated many times. It's an ugly old case but big and convenient.
    Of course as there are more versions of VW hardware it gets to be more work to support the new software on the old hardware. So for example fighter aircraft have this problem and there is a proposed Eurofighter Typhoon update where the computer becomes much more module and car be updated by swapping a box.
    If the car puts more of the intelligence in a central computer and less in microcontrollers then it will be more upgradeable.

    The first gen ID3s are now abandoned as facelift model is out and it already has 3.5 I'd software. Which is probably never coming to older ID3s. I bought my ID3 1st Max used. My car has been working decently well, but I'm bit disappointed that it is already outdated in software wise after 3 yrs. Not expecting software updates in the future. Like buying cheap chinese Android phone, if you're lucky you get couple updates and that's it. My ID3 was extremely expensive as new. The facelift model is still too expensive. It should be 30ke car when new, then it would sell better. No wonder VW has cut down the ID3 production.

    Biggest disappointments are the OTA Updates, missing Park Assist on 2022 models and VW support in Portugal. The car itself it's a great car but the all experience with VW and OTA makes it feel as not worthy, comparing with other EVs in the same price range and even cheaper. The bad thing is that VW still didn't learned the lesson...🙄🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ It's my 1st EV but will never go for VW again.

    The poor haptic buttons and sliders, VW should have stuck to buttons and knobs. This and all the other errors mentioned in the comments and the video is why sales of IDs are disappointing, not because “people don’t want EVs”. VW needs to fix these errors fast if they don’t want to keep losing market share and end up as EV has been.

If I change my car I will NOT go to VW again if you don’t. And being a legacy manufacturer will turn you into a manufacturer of the PAST in our minds. Not customer oriented. Not software oriented.

    this car family was simply a whole scam to be honest and you would also call it if you would have the right distance with all the mess and missed promises .
    6:46 you say that you were just sad that the car could not be retrofitted.
    Sounds like you are too kind to VW and the usual bet would be that you got the ID7 for cheap, I mean the press car discount for yt and journalists which you do not wanna risk or put at stake.
    The id car mess started with a
    * delayed delivery
    * missing accessories
    * then the promises with the heatpump regarding range which no one were able to achieve
    * terrible preheating even if not needed an ´d no ability to turn it off
    * no remote updates
    * weak or instable app
    * terrible interior quality at delivery
    * the 5 th seat has been lost for 1 model with the big battery if I remember right due to a too low total weight they had told the regulators.
    This car is ruining VWs reputation across the globe about its capabilities and future proofness, I mean the whole id family is crap except maybe the upcoming id.7 which therefore is too expensive and again far behind competition from the usual guy without a brand preference.
    Also the communication of VW with their new customer base is terrible, dealership are not really prepared , the infrastructure is not there.
    And I guess it is an abandoned car without getting any updates soon. They will lower the update frequency first and then phase it out to emergency updates only. Model S built in 2015 gets even today updates and free supercharging is still working.
    ID.3 in particular was and is still a mess - or check out for comparison someone with an open mind like EV Markus from portugal who had gotten the ID.3 instead of his cactus and was never really happy with the car compared to a tesla which he finally got in january to get rid of the troubles he had faced with an id.3
    That is the reality and if you watch his videos now it is a total different story, a total relief to drive a tesla model 3 instead of an buggy ID.3 aka lame duck without any real performance worth to mention compared to the model 3.
