You can actually get "Behind Chain Chomp's gate" by building up negative speed and you can clone the moneybags in Snoman's Land to get the 100 coins star
Don't you need to hold something by exiting the shell?
Oh wait you can kill the moneybags and duplicating them before they turn into the real thing
In a few places with boxes, you can break your shell and ground pound a box mid-air to grab some of the box stars with a shell.
May as well also point out that jolly roger bay star 5 may be possible.

I know you can't reach the courses in the top floor, but are they at least possible only with a shell? 🤔 Just to see!
The reason you couldn't swim with the shell, as I'm sure others have said before me and I may not be the last, is because the underwater shell and the land shell are two completely different objects with different properties.
7:18 you can see Mario's low poly model for a short time. When Mario is far away from the camera his model gets swapped with a low poly version to save processing power.

Actually, you need to trigger the animation where Koopa The Quick asks if you wanna race, but you need to be on the ground to be able to do that. Now, it is possible to beat him, but you can’t interact with him because of the Koopa Shell.

Considering you use wall-kicks several times, and allow things like climbing poles and trees, why not also jump and cancel your shell to do wall-kicks and ground pounds, as long as you land on a shell again?

The reason you can't geab the underwater shells is that normal Koopa Shells and Underwater shells are actually seperate entities, and not the same.

If this were a TAS, you could probably use slopes in a lot of the levels to build up a ton of speed on the shell. I think you'd be able to clip behind chain chomp's gate, for one thing.

The underwater shells I believe are different from the ones on land. You can actually take the shells from underwater and walk around carrying them on land

4:22 It's less about the hitbox of when Mario is falling but when he is grabbing the wall; it sort-of clips into the wall in just the right way to let it work. If you can't grab the wall, you can't do cannonless.
I'd be curious to see TTC, Rainbow Ride, and Wing Mario Over the Rainbow even though you wouldn't normally be able to access the levels. Would be interesting to see such difficult levels done with the shell.
I've done "Stand Tall on the Four Pillars" on a shell in Shifting Sand Land. There's normally a shell in that level. Did it years ago several times on N64, it's my preferred way of doing that star. You must have not surfed over the top of each pillar enough times, it takes a few to trigger the game script or whatever.
He meant he cant grab the star from the inside. It's easy to get on the four pillars but either way he has no way to fight the boss

I don't know if someone already mentioned this ... as far as i understand this for cannonless mario grabs the star when doing a ledgegrab hitting the perfect spot. He instantly collects it, so the ledgegrab is only like 1 frame or something, making it almost unnoticable. That would explain cannonless not working with the shell.

As far as I recall from Pannenkoek's videos, water shells and land shells are different objects, which should explain why you can't grab the (land) shells you spawned underwater.
You said “a” koopa shell so you have failed from the start of the challenge...
