SCOTTY RAM 1500 HEMI OR TUNDRA TWIN TURBO V6???
I would choose the new one. It is a Toyota after all and will keep its value.
I want to hear and know what are your thoughts on Xiaomi cars?
The brand name Xiaomi is from China.
I'm in Tampa and drive a 2002 Toyota Camry GXE with 150k miles. Bought it in 2010 from orginal owners with about 65k miles on it. Sometimes I wish this car would give me trouble so considering a new car would be more of a rational decision. But the truth is this vehicle is so completely reliable and trouble free. I would get in it right now and drive it to California and back without thinking twice.
It is scary to realize 2010 was 14 years ago. wow
Time is sneaky scary fast especially the older you get.😮😮. Peace....

@@iMoha46How about 1947?😅
Getting older…..
it’s a privilege denied to many.
It’s difficult to tell the difference between an old Toyota and a new Toyota, because it takes over twenty years before Toyota’s begin to age.

2021 Tundra 5.7 v8 owner here. averages about 12-14 mpg with a lead foot on the gas pedal and about 16-17 mpg when I'm driving the speed limit. I once averaged 20 mpg driving from Melbourne to Tampa going 5 below speed limit. I love my truck
Daniel, same here - 2021 Tundra. Not so much of a lead foot, getting about 15 in town, can get 20 mpg on the highway if its in a flat area. 10 -11 mpg towing a 3500 lb. RV. 26,000 on it now, no problems whatsoever. It sits in my driveway next to my 2004 Chevy Express Hitop van - 5.3 V8, also no major problems.
That's crazy considering the stop and go traffic on what I assume was the 417 and I4 route you probably took.
What trim level do u have?
Same here Scotty i will keep my 5.7 as long as possible. not a fan of turbos!!
NO GASOLINE ENGINE LASTS WITH A TURBO(ALL ACROSS THE BOARD) GOOD VID SCOTT
I dont think so. the only piece that will always fail is the bearing and the cost of fixing it shouldnt be more than $1,500.00 and it lasts like 250,000Miles. That's if its a Made in Japan Turbo by IHI.
@@kiyoshim9593Ehhh, most turbo engines last 150k miles tops imo, few make it past that point, they wear out the engine faster, which if youre driving a regular car that only has about an 150k lifespan thats whatever but if you want a reliable car thats gonna last you 300k miles or something, you dont want a turbo, hence why tocoma people were upset about the gen 4 being a turbo 4c instead of a V6.
@kiyoshim9593 there's just more pressure in there meaning it will have more wear, not just the turbo will wear faster

that Tundra is beautiful, wow!
Well, I bought a new 2023 Tacoma, Off Road 4x4. I didn't want the 2024. I figured a V-6 and a 6 speed is good enough. I don't care for turbos.
I bought one too, but I blew it.. The V-6 is gutless... Always shifting
Own a 2022 lunar rock trail edition. Can’t wait to trade it in for 24 trd sport..
2023 trail edition. Don’t want no stinking turbo’s. Keep it simple. I also have 2014 FJ and it looks and runs like new after 10 years and 85k, and 18 mpg average on both.
3rd Gen Tacos just need 5.29 gears and a tune, will absolutely do wonders for it, and will outlast anything out there
I just got a 2023 Tacoma trd off road with the manual 6 speed and have no under power issues
I love my Tundra trucks, and my T100 was an excellent truck as well. My pair of 2002 Tundra trucks both have the 4.7L V8, one is 4x4 and both have about 190,000 miles. I just added a nice 2006 4X2 4.7L Sequoia with 315,000 miles to the stable, it needs timing belt and valve cover gasket service. I also have the smallest and lightest 5.7L 4x2 Tundra made, unfortunately the 2007 needs head gasket replacement at 315,000 miles. I have no interest in any of the TT V6 Tundra trucks.
Got a 2002 tundra 4.7 myself. Has 114k miles and it drives just like new. No rattles or noises when driving, super solid machine
Don't forget, the newer Tundras are blowing engines (spinning bearings), that problem hasn't completely been resolved. It has been reported in over 48 engines, and even in the 2023 models. The fix is 10 weeks in the shop, new lower half engine and full rebuilt where they take the entire cab off the frame, install new engine/rebuild/reinstall cab. Freaking bonkers. All of Toyotas new turbo lineup and redesigns, stay away until they prove themselves again.
I've got the old 5.7L iforce V8 in my 2008 sequoia, 230k and still going strong.
I live in a 2000 Sienna with 266k
first Ive heard of that...not good at all. Spun bearings.
It’s going to take some more years and improvements to the new engine for it to be a bulletproof truck again.
Your not wrong in the spun bearings, I had to replace the lower end along with other engine parts due to metal particles contaminating certain engine parts. Not to bad to do besides all the crap around the engine and you don’t have to take the cab off to get the motor out. Just a lot of extra crap they shoved in there, Toyota should have kept the v8 as a lower trim option
I'll eventually get a tundra, but I'll wait until they're reliable again. Until then, I'll just keep screaming my 2.7l taco down the interstate!
I would rather have used parts for a Toyota than new parts for a General motors.
My 2010 z71 silvrrado is still rock solid
@@brotherdodger8545 Chevy has a bad problem with the lifters going out because of that crap active fuel management system. Very expensive to fix.

Any newer vehicles has way to much tech n that's why they are crap
I have a 2005 Matrix, 163k miles. Only had alternator and water pump replaced. Still good mileage. I still enjoy driving it. Blue like the one Scotty has.
I just had to junk my 2005 matrix. 215k miles ran great but the frame rotted and gone with salt roads and lived on the beach.

What many people don’t realize is that with the all seats folded down, you can get like a 7ft bed worth of space in the sienna
Bought new a 2003 Tundra 4x4 with the 4.7L V8. Still runs like a clock with just 108K miles on it. Frame is solid for a Michigan truck. Just maintenance and car washes during the winter.
I would be worried about driving it in the winter. Those frames with ANY moisture will rot away

Mine was fixed for the Evap System. Toyota fixed it for free. Broke down again 10k miles later, fixed it myself with OEM parts, 5k miles later broke down again. Placed a system that overrides the Evap code now and works fine.

Thank you for your videos Scotty you are an absolute legend! I’ve been watching you for probably ten years now! You are honest and practical with your videos!
Great video! I have a 2005 Tundra, 4.7 with 360K, and right now I'm getting my water pump replaced, along with belt and timing belt, valve cover gasket replaced and drive shaft seal. Bad timing due to inflation, but still a great work horse at the cost of two monthly payments on a newer vehicle. If I ever upgrade, it'll be the 2010 model.
Excellent perspective. Gotta have new tie rods and CV joint replaced. "Less than the cost of two monthly payments on a new one." Great way of looking at it.
Another way I've looked at mine (an '08 that I bought used with low mileage last year) is in terms of how many miles/years it has left to give, per dollar that it cost me. ISeeCars did a study where I think the top 10 vehicles would cost under $1700 per every 10k miles you get out of them.
Mine would be half that, if it only lasts to less than 300k miles. It wouldn't be unheard of for it to make it much longer than that! If it's like the Tundras I know of that have lasted to 400k or even 500k miles, it could end up having a cost like $375 per 10,000 miles. It may not, but even if it died at 250k it would be under $1000 per 10,000 miles.
There are many better ways of looking at vehicles than how people do by default. It's not how many miles are on the clock, it's how many useful miles it has left! It's not the cost of an isolated repair once in a blue moon, it's how much you're saving by not having to make a payment for 20 years.
I agree with what you're saying 100%! @@roymeyer6837
I really considered to buy an 08 Tundra, because I trust the powertrain more than the other truck brands, but the short bed and the low fuel economy steered me to an 07 Cummins with the G56. 20 mpg with quad cab and 8 foot bed. If the Tundra had a mega cab with at least a 6 foot bed, I might reconsider.
It’s not about mpg with Toyota
@@marcJoelthe Cummins will be fine as well
Toyota mistake 2021 killing 5.7 v8na replace with a 3.5l t
2022 killing 3.5 v6 na replace it with a 2.5lt
The biggest factor in mpg is how you drive. I got 15 to 18 mpg in normal driving with my 2021 double cab Tundra.
Totally agree with you I get the same with my 21 tundra and my 17 tundra.
Thank you Scotty. I have watched your videos for over 15 years.
Timing chains mostly don't break if you stick to proper oil changes with any brand of car. It's more often the guides that go.
They don't usually break but they stretch, Toyotas are fine but for example the GM v6 was really bad that way.
So far so good with my 2022 Tundra Limited, I get 18 to 21 MPG very constant. I usually drive it in ECO mode. My old one was a 2000 Tundra with a supercharger, the new one doubles the mileage so far.
What about my '06 4x4 double cab SR5 Tundra that I bought new back in 2006. I have 185k miles. About all I ever did was change the battery. It looks almost new too. I replaced a couple tail gates and a tree fell on my front bumper so I replaced that. I really love my truck. It runs and drives like new.
Don’t get rid of it
I own a 2000 Landcruiser HZJ78 with the 1HZ straight six diesel and 280.000 km. I bought it brand new and i replaced the brake pads last year for the first time and two times new batteries. THATS IT! I'm no Michanic, so please take my opinion with a giant grain of salt. New cars regardless of make are over engineered for customers who don't want longevity. Most people want bells and whistles that will break if you keep your cars 10+ years! I'm not saying new generation of buyers are idiots, just not practical!!
They're idiots
Japanese cars last even longer than they use to
Planned obsolescence is built into pretty much everything these days and cars are definitely no exception especially as more cars are becoming computers on wheels even the newest ICE cars.
I 100% agree with you there are people who want the best and that are loyal to their car make and model most of my family had Chevy’s most of their lives and never had a problem and both of my brothers have dodges and never had any problems and I’ve had a couple of fords 2 of them being a 2008 focus manual transmission and a 2016 focus my other ford I’ve had were pickups never had any problems and I bought them used now I do respect Scotty and his videos he just gives opinions about cars but to me the I see it as long as a car gets from point A to point B that’s all that matters my advice to anyone looking for a car no matter if it’s your first car or whatever get whatever car you want it’s your money and your choice it’s all about what you like 👍

Scotty, we can be sure that Toyota would improve their newer truck too. Toyota is a perfectionist company. They will do their magic to transform the new unreliable Tacoma and Tundra to reliable tanks.
Not possible with turbos and gas work trucks
@@marcJoelIt’s possible. They maybe won’t last as long as naturally aspirated engines, but Toyota could still make them reliable.
2016 Ford F150 FX4 with street tires averaged over 18 for 5 years. 2.7L. The worst mpg was 12 to 14 while towing a light trailer - 4000 lbs, best mpg was 24 to 25 on a camping trip with 4 adults and all the comfortable camping gear.

my 2021 4x4 F150 2.7 ecoboost gets consistently 23mpg in mixed driving.
A??…on check engine light. When I clear the CEL, do I need to drive it to see if it comes back on, or can I just idol it?
My Tundra is a 2008 with the 5.7L. Only has 86k on the clock (I got it a year ago with 74k). Had dealership maintenance records going back to brand-new so I was able to track the mileage and it really was that low.
It was well cared for with only one previous owner, and runs like a top. So I wouldn't be surprised if it's still on the road after quite a few of the twin-turbo V6s have given up the ghost with far fewer miles on them than the V8 Tundras were able to rack up.
My prediction is, with so many vehicles going to underpowered engines that get boosted to make them feel powerful enough, we're moving back to the days where 100,000 miles is all we expect out of a new vehicle. Yet we're paying more for them than ever before. I hope Toyota can find a way to make them reliable, but if so I think that will only come with time and possibly a few bad generations of vehicles first.
I like my 2014 FJ Cruiser with the 1GR-FE which Toyota states it stands for 1-Great-F"ing-Engine.
Bought a 2023 Tacoma SR 4x4 V6 double cab, $32,800. Last of the 3rd gens off the production line. Cant imagine spending almost double for a Tundra.
I traded my 2010 Limited for an "ordered just for me" brand new 2020 Limited. The only thing I wish it had was more instant off the start power that the 2010 had.. I'll have T-3 until the wheel fall off! Sadly, unless 'Yota brings back a V8, this'll be the last one i buy.
Can you elaborate as to why you would want them to bring a V8 back? As far as I recall, all V8 versions got worse gas mileage, less horsepower, less torque. Less towing and hauling capability.. I mean, I kind of pride myself on seeing both sides of an argument, but I legit am not seeing it here.
I paid just below 50k for my brand new 2014 1794 Tundra. It only has 125k miles, like new. Not gonna trade in foreseeable future. There’s not one truck on the market now that I’d pay what they’re asking. There’s no way the turbos are gonna last, even with strict maintenance

Scotty I have a 2024 4 runner v6 does this vehicle have a timing belt or timing chain?
Older are more designed to work on and run longer do to less restrictives in emissions
Scotty I had one of those for 3 weeks (rental) and I was really taken back by the lack of quality. Plastic EVERYTHING, chrome delaminating, plastic interior pieces already cracking; just a hallow driving experience. I was not impressed compared to my 2015 Sequioa, it was night and day from a quality perspective. And the turbo lag was absolutely insane. My work truck is a F-150 with a 3.5L turbo, and it has better responsiveness and better MPG. Which pains me to admit that being a Ford hater and a Toyota fanboy. But you have to be honest. Toyota really missed the mark on this one IMHO.
The problem with older Toyotas is the suspensions parts with their rubber components wear. This gives very expensive repair jobs. I know because I have been spending thousands a year the last few years keeping up my 08 Camry.
Agree, turbos are going to ruin Toyota's reliability reputation IMO. I've had turbos and they are strenuous on the engine, require heavy maintenance IMO, and will cause leaks in all the piping under the hood. I know, it cost me about $4,000 to fix three leaks in my 2014 Mercedes ML350 diesel SUV in one year. I've got the receipts, so I traded her in for a 2023 Lexus ES300h with its naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine and the hybrid drivetrain. She gets 42+ MPG in City/Hwy driving around town and about 40+ on road trips (Major Highways).
My 2012 Silverado built in Indiana has all kinds of rust.
I got a 2017 F150 Coyote v8 and I get 18-22 in town. When towing a 22 ft travel trailer I get 14 mpg. I was hoping the new Tundra would at least match the old Ford. What’s up?
America gets all the good V8s. Wokestralia, also referred to as "the land down under", are getting new taxes to stop Australians owning pickups entirely.
What is your opinion on the 2007 Tundra V6 over 200,000 miles?
14.4 is about as good as I get in my '19 Limited LOL. Once I did get 21 (downhill all the way from the high desert to where I live in SoCal). I almost had a heart attack before I realized it was a downhill run. I get about 11mpg in rush hour traffic. Gas is killing me for sure but with the lockdown and now hybrid schedule, I don't drive to work every day. So it only has 21,000 miles on it despite being 5yo...
Now tell us about the knock sensor replacement that the dealer wants 3k to do. Its about an 8 hour DIY job.
What is a towing capacity on the V8 Tundra versus the V6 Tundra does anybody know
2009 Corolla with 120 thousand miles bought.. have had to replace the water pump, alternator, all hoses, rotors, axels, brake booster and now the AC compressor and condenser while I’m at it.. yah Toyota Engine and Transmission seem ok all the accessories on Toyotas are way below way way below what I’m used to on the Fords I had.
I bought this EXACT truck last month, even the same color! 2010 Tundra, 185,000 miles for $20,000. I LOVE MY TRUCK!!!!!!!
Hey Scotty,
The Brazilian government just announced that they're gonna increase the amount of biodiesel content to around 14% here in Brazil. Experts say the maximum safe amount is 7%. I have a 2002 Toyota Hilux Diesel, what should I do (other than selling the vehicle)?
Thank you for answering
From what Ive read if you have an older Indirect injection type Diesal, you're probably safe to use biodiesel. The problem is the newer types the have direct injectors which can clog up and are difficult to service. You would need to check further.
I recommend to use additives , Liqui Moly Diesel System cleaner, and Liqui Moly Diesel Particle Filter Protection.
It's german products , very efficient, and available in Brazil..
Biodiesel maker here. Used it in my 2004 excursion. Ran it straight, no additives. What a mistake.
Put some kind of additive in it or you will pay for an injectors cleaning. Very expensive.
Good luck.
I was trying to buy that exact 2010 tundra but people charge ridiculous money for them 40k for a 2010 with 199k on it lol so i had to go with a 2020 chevy custom trailboss with 33k on it same price, its hard to get a used truck without major rust damage and i wanted a clean truck, but i still have great respect for the tundra, i must admit tho my 5.3 with a 6spd does amazing on the highway i can easily get 20 mpg intown its about 15 14, g-80 rear diff auto lockers for the front its an amazing off roader and does amazing in snow
Don’t leave the handicapped placard on the dash. My father’s one went out the window.
I miss my 2010 Tundra…… Loved that truck.
I’m torn between a new Rav 4 hybrid to replace my 15 plate diesel 2 litre with no turbo , should I just keep it as it has 86,000 miles ?
Scotty, HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY ☘️🇺🇲
