    Owned an Audi Q7. I became a baby sitter for the vehicle. Spent a great amount of time driving to the dealer for service. Computer was a mess, hard acceleration turning left caused a stall. Battery was under the drivers seat in a well. My wallet fell to the floor and bounced into the well. Impossible to retrieve. Called dealership and was told they employed a contortionist mechanic capable of doing the deed. He did but shows how often some such bounce occurred. Worst so called luxury vehicle I ever owned.

      I test drove about 3 Ford Focuses and they all had transmission problems. One shuddered under acceleration like it was going to fall apart, another one made a horrible crunching noise and I forget what was wrong with the third one. Then I Googled Ford Focus transmission problems and found out about the inherently fault-prone dual clutch tranny. So I test drove a Mazda3 SP25, it was smooth and quiet and fun to drive. Still have it today, brilliant little car.

    I had an Audi A6 3.0T, and the reason I sold it was because the dealer's service team I'd used for 5 years fell away. I had 2 guys I got a long with, and always gave me a break on parts and maintenance. Got a few free oil changes. Always sung their praises. I drove across the country in that car without issue. It's a space ship. After a point though I got new people and it was clear the magic that was there was gone. They charged me 900 to fix a tail light, only to ask for another 2000 to fix the other part for the same issue. Fishing for service charges. Mechanically the Supercharged V6 was great. It went 0-60 in 5.2 and if I trailed on the highway I got 38 mpg one time, normally around 33mpg. It was a nice clean car the whole time I had it, and I would buy it again if I found a better service center. Germans have electrical issues, but that's not unique to audi, that's BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, KTM, all of them. People get audis and then don't service them, then they cry they don't work.

    • @kresstek

    • @masonreppeto882
      @masonreppeto882 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@kresstek No, German cars stop working on their own. You don't get to blame lack of maintenance on failing starters and tie rod bearings at less than 100k miles. They are no more reliable than American brands or kia. However, what's sad is kia actually has better reliability than BMW or VW. IF KIA cars weren't freaking death traps, I'd probably drive one if I couldn't get my hands on a Honda. BMW abandoned actual reliability 25+ years ago just like the American brands did.

      I'm Italian and bought a 2018 Ford C-Max with a 1,5 litre Ford diesel engine and robotized transmission. The transmission was replaced 2 years ago with 160'000 km, now the car has 245'000 km and it's going ok, the engine Is still running ok and never had an issue, not the smallest problems in more than 6 years.

The straw that broke the camels back was when it wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear in the middle of the morning rush hour traffic in the Bay Area. Audi has 2 big connections under the hood for jump starting, so you don’t need to go to the trunk - only if you’re sure that you’ve got a battery at all. Also on some models there’s still a key hole on the trunk next to the opening switch, so you can open it if the battery totally dies, and the key is hidden in the key fob

    Scotty, That beauty cover on the engine you complain about does have
    a function. It is there to shield the hood from the high heat of the engine which
    over time causes the paint on the hood to fail prematurely. Years ago, instead of the
    beauty cover, they used to have an insulation pad attached to the hood which
    was usually about a 1" thick piece of fiberglass insulating material.

    We have a 2015 Focus and it's been fine. The DCT had to get new clutches and pressure seals at 70K but after that it drove better than when it was brand new. So far so good. I'll never buy a DCT again but we do intend to drive this thing into the ground. We have almost 140K on it now.

    I can't say anything about later Audis, but my 1999 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro was the best car I ever owned. I paid good money to keep it serviced, that cost more than a Toyota. It had one stupid feature - the pneumatic door locks also controlled the locking fuel door. If the impeller failed, you could not refuel the car. There was no release cable to open the fuel door.

    I bought a certified 2006 Audi A3 hatch in 2007. Then, I bought a 2017 certified Audi A4 in 2018. Both cars are still running great, and are a lot more fun to drive than any Japanese car I've owned. Both Audis had 2.0 ltr turbos and Dual Clutch transmissions.

    My experiences with Dodge/Chrysler cars built since about 1990 or so is that no matter how much you maintain them or baby them they will still be unreliable and fall apart on you. They just use a lot of cheaply made components. I know people that have owned the 200C and that thing was flagrantly unreliable. Now in case you are one that claims you have one with the 2.4 with 500,000 miles and it's been a jewel to own for one I don't really believe you and two you are the 1 in 1 million that just got very lucky.

    I bought a 2017 Focus new, 7 years ago. The dealer had a 5 speed on his lot and I got it cheap. Best car I have ever had, it has a 5 speed transmission made in Germany. The automatic has all the problems. If you can find a cheap used manual Focus, it is a great compact car.

    Get something good and hold on to it. I have a 2008 Mazda 6, it's fun enough and has the essentials. I would wish for stronger low beams though.
    However for 3,5 years it's been nothing but reliable, always starts and rarely breaks down. When it does break down it's til this day never been anything expensive.

    The Ford Powershift DCT was a dry design, where the clutches did not get bathed in oil. As they wore, the material had nowhere to go but gather at the bottom and on sections of the plates. This caused massive grabbing and slipping issues. This would happen as soon as 15k miles after the "repair" because it was just a bad design.

    • @thehighllama8101
      @thehighllama8101 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah. Ford knew about the transmission issues before the Focus and Fiesta even went on sale to the public. Apparently, they had no transmission to replace the Powershift DCT, because it was specifically designed by Getrag to fit in the Focus/Fiesta (either that, or the Focus/Fiesta were designed with only enough space for the Powershift DCT).I suppose Ford thought they could fix the transmission issues somewhere down the road, via recalls. Or maybe they just thought, 'Screw the customers'. Anyway, none of the fixes Ford tried worked, because the Powershift is just an inherently bad design, like you said.

    Around that year the VW TSI engines which i think is also in the A4, had issues with the camchain tensioners failing, chains would jump or snap wrecking the motors. Moreover it took 3 attempts to get the tensioners sorted. If you google "VW TSI engine camchain tensioner" its all over the web. I have a Skoda VRS with the same engine and so upgraded it to the latest tensioner when i learnt of the issue.

    I don't know what they do with the cars but my brother got $10,800 when they bought his car back. It had 105,000 approx. miles. I still have my 2014 Ford Focus and we had the clutches and starter replaced December 2022 with 176,000 miles. It has been a great car other than the clutch replacement. The new transmission is so tight and shifts so good it feels like a brand new vehicle. Engine doesn't burn or leak any oil.

    The key fob has a key blade for accessing your trunk and doors. Most luxury cars require an agm battery, and this person installed a never start from walmart. If your battery goes in the trunk, then don’t forget to hook up the vent hose and cap. They go on either side, and they keep sulfuric acid fumes from filling the car.

      I've had 4 VWs throughout my life time. All ran extremely well and no major problems, however, I was religious when it came to maintenance and took them to the dealership. More expensive, but in the long run it kept them going. I suspect that most of the Audi horror stories are about used Audis where the previous customers did not want to dish out the money to keep them running properly. The repairs are indeed expensive, but necessary. If you are going to buy a luxury car, you have to prepare for the higher cost of maintenance. If you can't handle that, then go with a VW....but still keep up with the maintenance, it's just less costly.
      If you are going to buy a used luxury auto. Don't buy unless you have complete records for maintenance.
