    Owned an Audi Q7. I became a baby sitter for the vehicle. Spent a great amount of time driving to the dealer for service. Computer was a mess, hard acceleration turning left caused a stall. Battery was under the drivers seat in a well. My wallet fell to the floor and bounced into the well. Impossible to retrieve. Called dealership and was told they employed a contortionist mechanic capable of doing the deed. He did but shows how often some such bounce occurred. Worst so called luxury vehicle I ever owned.

      I test drove about 3 Ford Focuses and they all had transmission problems. One shuddered under acceleration like it was going to fall apart, another one made a horrible crunching noise and I forget what was wrong with the third one. Then I Googled Ford Focus transmission problems and found out about the inherently fault-prone dual clutch tranny. So I test drove a Mazda3 SP25, it was smooth and quiet and fun to drive. Still have it today, brilliant little car.

    I had an Audi A6 3.0T, and the reason I sold it was because the dealer's service team I'd used for 5 years fell away. I had 2 guys I got a long with, and always gave me a break on parts and maintenance. Got a few free oil changes. Always sung their praises. I drove across the country in that car without issue. It's a space ship. After a point though I got new people and it was clear the magic that was there was gone. They charged me 900 to fix a tail light, only to ask for another 2000 to fix the other part for the same issue. Fishing for service charges. Mechanically the Supercharged V6 was great. It went 0-60 in 5.2 and if I trailed on the highway I got 38 mpg one time, normally around 33mpg. It was a nice clean car the whole time I had it, and I would buy it again if I found a better service center. Germans have electrical issues, but that's not unique to audi, that's BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, KTM, all of them. People get audis and then don't service them, then they cry they don't work.

    • @kresstek
      @kresstek 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    • @masonreppeto882
      @masonreppeto882 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@kresstek No, German cars stop working on their own. You don't get to blame lack of maintenance on failing starters and tie rod bearings at less than 100k miles. They are no more reliable than American brands or kia. However, what's sad is kia actually has better reliability than BMW or VW. IF KIA cars weren't freaking death traps, I'd probably drive one if I couldn't get my hands on a Honda. BMW abandoned actual reliability 25+ years ago just like the American brands did.

    I know somebody that had an Audi A4 who took good care of it. At 51K the timing belt broke on the freeway and she thought it just stalled. She went to start it again and it ruined the engine. The warranty ran out at 50K I believe. Her husband talked Audi into eating half of the repair costs. She sold the car and never bought another Audi. I wondering if the timing belt broke on the one you have there.

    Audi has 2 big connections under the hood for jump starting, so you don’t need to go to the trunk - only if you’re sure that you’ve got a battery at all. Also on some models there’s still a key hole on the trunk next to the opening switch, so you can open it if the battery totally dies, and the key is hidden in the key fob

    a function. It is there to shield the hood from the high heat of the engine which
    over time causes the paint on the hood to fail prematurely. Years ago, instead of the
    beauty cover, they used to have an insulation pad attached to the hood which
    was usually about a 1" thick piece of fiberglass insulating material.

      I've had 4 VWs throughout my life time. All ran extremely well and no major problems, however, I was religious when it came to maintenance and took them to the dealership. More expensive, but in the long run it kept them going. I suspect that most of the Audi horror stories are about used Audis where the previous customers did not want to dish out the money to keep them running properly. The repairs are indeed expensive, but necessary. If you are going to buy a luxury car, you have to prepare for the higher cost of maintenance. If you can't handle that, then go with a VW....but still keep up with the maintenance, it's just less costly.
      If you are going to buy a used luxury auto. Don't buy unless you have complete records for maintenance.

    I work just 3 months at a repair shop as an apprenticeship and all i can say is that German cars are the worst and most complex to fix starting from the simplest things like removing a wheel... Also they are very unreliable today a Bmw arrived with the time chain snapped with only 79000kms... Japanese cars for life! Once i am done with the apprenticeship i will go to a garage that only works with Japanese brands

    My experiences with Dodge/Chrysler cars built since about 1990 or so is that no matter how much you maintain them or baby them they will still be unreliable and fall apart on you. They just use a lot of cheaply made components. I know people that have owned the 200C and that thing was flagrantly unreliable. Now in case you are one that claims you have one with the 2.4 with 500,000 miles and it's been a jewel to own for one I don't really believe you and two you are the 1 in 1 million that just got very lucky.

    I can't say anything about later Audis, but my 1999 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro was the best car I ever owned. I paid good money to keep it serviced, that cost more than a Toyota. It had one stupid feature - the pneumatic door locks also controlled the locking fuel door. If the impeller failed, you could not refuel the car. There was no release cable to open the fuel door.

    We actually have a Chrysler 200 with 230K Kms on it. Four cylinder engine still runs well, AC still works and interior held up reasonably well. In Canada, the Toyota/Honda competition is at least $10k more. While I wouldn’t call it a high quality car, it’s 12 years old and still drives nice. We were able to fix most issues ourselves so it’s not quite as horrible as that expensive Audi. Sure it’s a cheap POS but at least not an expensive POS.
