Nice! I had one too with near 300k but finally upgraded as the early base models weren’t too safe anymore without ABS.

@@bldontmatter5319completely wrong. Abs is far better than no abs every time. It's the difference between hitting that kid running in the road vs missing them. On a dry road, you can stop 50 feet shorter from 40mph easily. No reason to ever talk down abs. It's saved more lives than even seat belts.
I was reading on Copilot that of the first generation Toyota Tundra that 2000 and 2003 were good years. Mine 2003 195k miles, so far, so good.
@@mattpike7268 It's always been a consideration while driving the 2000, especially when the roads are wet. You have to be way more conscious of speeds and distance while driving anything without ABS.

These are the best trucks out there. Powerful and very reliable. I wish Toyota still made this generation.
Me to the new Tundras with turbos will probably never see this many miles without expensive repairs.

My 2008 5.7L has 217k trouble free miles. Oil changes and brakes.
Two weeks ago, Finally got my buddy who was a ford jeep ram guy his whole life to test drive a 2020 tundra. He bought it. Said it’s the best things he’s ever owned compared to f150, f250, new jeep gladiator, new ram 1500.
They don't make trucks like this anymore. 2008 with 125,000 Miles on ours. I just don't have it in my heart to sell it. Purchased new 2024 Tundra off the lot and sold it a week later. You can have your Turbo, I will pass.

Had to buy my first truck. Decided on a 21 Tundra since it’s the last of the V8’s.
2:01 it's not. The "iForce" name was introduced in 2000 with the 4.7 that was used in the first Sequioa and Tundra.
Picked up a 2012 right before covid with 180k miles 4WD for $12,000. I think it was a steal. It’s held up great and I daily it currently.
I found a 2010 (in 2019) for my dad for 10,500 with 245k miles… in PRISTINE condition, we knew the previous owner by chance it was my dads old boss, highway miles everywhere for construction supervisor job… company truck… dad still has it and it purrs like a kitten

I had a 2007 TRD and when I sold it out had 378000 miles. It still worked flawlessly! And there was very little rust, even though I lived in eastern Canada (Toronto)
. The only issue was ABS light and it almost always spun the tires from the take off. And yes, mine had the 5.7, it was amazing. Wish I never sold it, 5 years ago. I see it all the time and it still looks great and ruins good.
just bought mine yesterday and everyone says the tundras have little things that they all have. they always spin the tires on takeoff
@@Faazer6 yes, mine ALWAYS spin ots tires on take off. There is one little place on the throttle that they don't, you will find it but not always. It's like you have to release brakes, then momentarily let it idle to move first then apply the throttle. Enjoy the trick, I missed mine. Just make sure your rear wheel bearings are good. They are a pain.
Guys; in the 07-13 the tow/haul really changed the throttle mapping and shift points (Afterward, not as much). You'll enjoy driving it in that when you want to have some fun.
I bought a brand new Tundra in 2000 . It's a 3.4 v- 6 with an auto transmission. I still use the truck as my daily driver. It has 280k trouble free miles and has never been in the shop for more than oil changes and tire work. I've not had a car payment in almost 20 years...
I have a 2005 Tundra XSP and love it. It’s had some issues but overall nothing major has broken. The XSP trim did come with TRD performance exhaust way back in 05. It still sounds good too.

Just picked up a 2010 base model crew max 5.7 with 246k for 5k!!! Sooooo much truck for 5k. Some dings and scratches but all and all pretty darn good shape.
Previously had an 02 six cylinder 5spd single cab long bed work truck in toyota grey i named The Donkey. Worked that truck soooo hard. Had gotten it for six hundred bucks. Love Tundra!

I have a 2015 with the 4.6 v8, 249k miles, no problems and it’s quite strong, still feels new to me! Great mpg (if I don’t drive with a heavy foot)

I'm happy that, this past spring, I was able to find a 2021 CrewMax fresh off a 2 year lease with 23,300 miles on it. I'm looking forward to it lasting for the next 25 years. I am sad that it only has the 27 gallon fuel tank, though.
I got a 2007 double cab 2wd brand new. 5.7 motor. For all but one year, it's been a daily driver. Just over 332k miles right now. Very few issues. Great trucks.

2001 Tundra with 366k miles. Used as a work truck it's entire life (rode hard and put up wet). Interior is in better shape than the one shown, a few dents and dings along with some paint chips (that show rust). With the exception of an exhaust system, just normal maintenance (every 3k with the oil changes) and I would drive this truck cross county tomorrow.
I just bought a 2008 tundra double cab 8’ bed 4x4 with 58000 miles on it for $19.500. It is in perfect shape and smells like a new truck I couldn’t pass that up, an older gentleman owned before me and he just got too old to drive, which stinks, but the truck will be in good hands I won’t ever get rid of it.

That 20k will pay for itself over and over. It is high but market price is market price. I’ve come to terms with that myself.
Somebody jealous. It’s way better then any newer truck with 100,000 miles or more for over $30,000 or more . And new prices are even more ridiculous And to counter your BS I bought a 2003 f150 supercrew with 77,000 miles 9 years ago for $12k and that thing keeps going with no issues. So in my life every vehicle is different depending on conditions. I got zero regret

Ive owned an 07 Tundra with the 5.7 and I now own an 06 with the 4.7. Love them both. I'd love to have my 07 back as its alot roomier. But as a knock around truck to run errands and haul homeowner stuff around my 06 is perfect for that. Toyota did well with both generations. My 06 has 245K miles on it and runs like a top.

I got a 2012 Crewmax about 2 years ago with 150k on it. It's about to crest the 200k mark soon, and it has been bulletproof. Of course a Carfax with regular oil changes helped, but the interior, exterior, and drive line feel damn near brand new. Plus I've towed my Miata in a 20ft enclosed trailer multiple times without issue. You really can't go wrong with this truck. Unless you find one that's gone 20k miles in between oil changes of course
The best truck in the world, Toyota Tundra. I own a 2007 Toyota Tundra Crew Max with 112,000 miles on it. I bought it new on April 14th 2007. The best truck I’ve ever owned.
Well at least I got you to make a video on the 2nd gen Tundra LOL! I commented on the My Colorado got bricked video. I was a little harsh to say the least.
That was out of pure frustration due to all the different truck brands I have owned over the years and how disappointed I have been with all the issues I have had.

trucks and have owned them over my 40 years of driving my favorite was GMC but that all changed years ago when they traded reliability for bells and whistle's.
So when I retired last year I found a 2021 Tundra 1794 trd off road. Its looks and dives like an old Lexus 460. Its sad I had to resort to a 15 year old platform to get
some reliability. You can't go wrong with a well maintained 2nd gen Tundra. Yes the mpg's are not the best but at least you won't be getting jammed at a dealership
with reliability issue and being told thats just the way it is live with it. Let me count the ways. 1) 10 speed transmission shudder 2) Cam phaser rattle 3) Lifter failure due to AFM
4) cam shaft, lifter wear hemi tick. I know the Tundra will get me home and rides good on the hwy thats all we need for now. Tundra's will be extremely sought after in the next
few years when all these issues start popping up on these over engineered trucks ie turbos, extra cooling lines over stressed smaller displacement engine's. Thanks

Wish I can get a good 5.7 3U- FE by 2030 when I (hopefully) will be able to afford one... As for the turbo ones, the reliability will improve with time. The government does not want reliability unfortunately.
I had a 2010 with 55k a few years ago. It had the secondary air pump failure at 54k, and toyota fixed it under warranty. It got totaled a month later. I held out for the new Tundras...bought a used 4runner with the 4.7 with 190k on it. I needed it for towing my camper and boat. When the new Tundras finally came out, I was seriously disappointed in both the price and the MPG of the new Tundras. Started looking at the baby Duramax. I wanted MPG for towing that camper when I retired. Well, I retired this year and no way I wanted the huge cost of a new truck. So I found a like new 2016 Tundra with 55k miles on it. $30k. I can spend all that savings on the gas it needs. I love it. Keeping the 4runner too, it is pretty flawless.
Good choice. I will likely do the same in a year, which will make it my third Tundra.
That 4.7l 4runner is a good retirement savings right there if times ever got real tough. Those things are highly, highly sought after SUVs!
Good on you! Buying a brand new Tundra would have emptied another $40k out of your bank account. The savings will buy all the gas you can get your hands on for the next 50 years! I've got a supercharged 2012 Tundra Crewmax. I'll hold on to that until I leave this rock! Absolutely fantastic truck, nothing comes close to these trucks. Bought it 4 years ago with 141k miles on the clock and it drives like new.
I have a 2008 4wd Limited, best vehicle I ever owned hands down! I drove it until a year and a half ago, then handed it down to my service manager. Just a month ago, after 15 years, we had to replace the alternator. Other than that, maintenance and wear items only. Great truck! But yes, they love gas, that's the only down side to them.

I have had 9 Tundras since 2001 after years owning Fords. The Tundra is a reliable, durable and capable truck.

@@TechButler ….only 3 were new. 4 had over 100k when I bought them. I never had a single issue with any of them. Never saw the dealership except for routine service.

Thanks for the post guys.. mine's a 2010 5.7 at 165K.. had to replace the starter..not exactly a driveway fix-or in my case RV park camping-had it towed to dealer for repair, other than some oil leaks, been a good rig..passes everything on the road except a gas station...

I had 2 different tacomas but traded the last one for a rav4 due to mpg. I've been heavily considering a older tundra to buy in cash. Have the rav4 for daily. Tundra for truck stuff. IT really seems like the best bang for the buck. Even the first gen. Tows a little less. Little smaller but does the job for even cheaper. I've been looking g at 1st and 2nd gen tundras.
My o7 Tundra 4x4 sr5 has 296k, runs great. Never left us stranded. Tow a 35 TT, fire wood, kids and everything we need. It's a workhorse! Best money I ever spent. I live in salt road heaven. Rust is minimal. I do all the maintenance and wash it in our driveway when salt is on the roads. I installed a high bumper with gold chains. My wife is a beautiful blonde but guys always comment on my big grill with gold chains! Rock on!!
I have a second gen Tundra as well. Currently 300k on the odo, runs great! My dad is borrowing it and using it as a work truck since his F150 needs a new engine.
Hope your dad is able to trade in that Ford 💩 for a nice and gently used Toyota Tundra.

My 07 is The best vehicle I've ever owned! I bought it new, it has 167,000 miles on it. My buddy has an 06 with 325,000 hard miles on it.

I'm planning to buy a Long Bed Version. After seeing this, 16 MPG and 21 is really good for such a big beast. Today's 1.5L turbo new SUV engines like MG HS gives the same lol. This is 4 times bigger engine and vehicle itself.
A rule of thumb is you usually want to avoid the 07 and 08 year trucks. They are still reliable as hell but compared to the other years had more issues.
And as far as the 4.7 vs 5.7 reliability, they use the same engine block just slightly different bore and stork specs. In fact I believe two 4.7s have made it to a million miles now and just recently a 5.7 did as well.
4.7 was an iron block and the 5.7 is an aluminum block. I believe you are thinking of the 5.7 and the newer 4.6.
07 and 08 with either the 4.0 or 4.7 should be fine. The issues reported were with the 5.7.
Bunch of 5.7s have reached a million miles
The 4.7s have timing belts, while the 5.7s have timing chain
The early second Gen Tundra had issues with secondary air pump failure that was common, and Toyota decided to have a side extended warranty for the air pump.
Toyota fixed the issue down the line, and the complaint went down.
There were a few, and I mean, a few oil pump failures, and the check engine light would also fail to notify the owner, but it was a few very few that had such issues.
The 2007-2009 had a body frame rust lawsuit, and those involved in the lawsuit had their body frame replaced free.
That was a long, long, long time ago.
When the Toyota went into flex fuel systems, the computer failed to tell the difference between what type of fuel was being used and the check engine light would come on.
Toyota eventually also got that fix too.
Year 2020 and up Toyota decided to remove the transmission coolent from the tundra that spark controversy about it.
Many people would buy a transmission coolent and install it themselves.
2014-2015 had suspension and alignment issues caused by the manufacturer poor quality control after the Tundra refresh.
So far, that's all that I know of.

Earlier this year I found an absolute gem, a 2008 Tundra with the 5.7L engine, same color as yours but the double cab instead of CrewMax. Only 74k on the clock with a clean title, single owner and dealership maintenance records dating back to when it was brand new!
It's so smooth that when I first started daily driving it, I'd actually have to look down at the tachometer to make sure it was still running when idling at a red light.
This truck may very well have more miles left in it than the brand-new forced induction rolling time bomb motors driving off the lot today...

So all the dirt and leaves and exhaust get sucked into the cab...not especially useful except passthru to a camper shell.. in my experience..
My 07 TUNDRA SR5 4x4 has 303k, still rolling everyday. Starts right up and goes!
Love Toyota trucks. I own a 2001 Tacoma with over 200k miles still runs like a clock.
If I ever replace it I would definitely look for a Tundra.
These are absolutely one of the best used trucks to buy! This is a much better truck than the uncomfortable, claustrophobic & rough riding Tacoma.

@@2H2521 It was mainly the bodyroll, for some reason older gen Tacoma leaned so much even empty, maybe because it had more off road oriented suspension and the pre runner package is cool and all but it probably doesn't help plus only 190 hp was not exactly power house, even Highlander had 240 with smaller engine back then... it's ok i'm done crying 🙂
If you have a 4X4 cycle it in both 4WD low and high once in a while. The veterinarian who owned mine drove in 2WD for 145K and the transfer case went out the first time I put it in 4WD. The dealer I bought it from gave me a 6 month warranty and I paid a 100 dollar deductible at the dealership.
My buddy has the generation tundra before this one "2005" with the 4.7 & at over 400,000 miles it still run like new.
I be willing to bet the new tundra's 3.5 V6 will never last like this one already has.
My daily driver is a truck that my dad bought at a flea market. I can’t remember for sure if he paid $3,000 or $4,000 for it, but it’s a 2000 Tundra Limited 4wd. He said he pulled the cash out of his pocket and paid the individual. A few minutes later he turned the key in the ignition and realized the truck had almost 400k miles on it. Well, that was around 2009-10 timeframe. My dad passed in 2020 and I kept the Tundra. Today this truck has over 584,000 miles on it. He did have to get another engine out in a few years after he bought it, but aside from that, new brakes, drums and rotors, an alternator, water pump and timing belt, this truck has been a great vehicle for me to drive back and forward to work. I would love to upgrade to at least a 2nd Gen Tundra a t some point but, this one will continue to do for now.
dont remember exactly where i heard this from but there was a mining company somewhere out by you guys i think that had brand new tundras as their work trucks and were towing like over twice the rated weight for the trucks and they kept blowing diffs on their trucks. toyota kept warranting them under some circumstances. the reason was that they wanted to get the diffs back to see how they held up and what broke to see what they can make stronger and said they'll continue to warranty the diffs from these guys. kinda cool on toyotas part
We run our business with a salvage title 2007 tundra that we bought 3 years ago for $12,000. we took it from 150,000 to over 200,000 miles ! The only maintenance was brakes tires and oil.
4.7 wasn’t in this generation for full run. By 2011 it was replaced by 4.6. Knew a guy with a 2wd double cab with it that easily pulled 20+mpg. Great balance between the gutless 2GR and the thirsty 5.7.
I think sooner. 4.7 was only around 2-3 years.
i bought my 2013 tundra just over a year ago and after working on cars and trucks over the last 20 years, the tundra NEVER feels as worn out and old as A LOT of the same year vehicles made by other manufactures. not even nissan's titan can still feel as good with age or miles taken into account. its extremely rare to see any of the competitors with miles over 200k on stock engine and transmission... gm has lifter issues or transmission issues. ford has their own strange problems with cam phasers, and i really dont know much about the ram trucks other than electrical issues. tundra will not let you down if you keep up with MAINTENANCE. you'll find them with over 300k miles, its not that rare. biggest thing people complain about is sometimes lack of creature comforts, but in my honest opinion, its the high end features and being too complicated that take away from what a truck really is... a good running tundra is all you need.

Just purchased a 2015 Limited Crewmax 4x4 with 109k miles and it feels almost new!
The cab and chassis are the same until the end...minus the trans cooler. When my box needs replacing I'm gonna "upgrade" the front and rear bodywork to a 2017 or so😎
I had the same issue with my tundra 4x4. I had an issue with the shift actuator. I replaced the transfer case and it fixed the issue. I think it was an alignment issue with the shift actuator and transfer case.
Have had a 2011 for 13 years 5.7 just did the water pump at 115 k , best truck I've owned!
It’s an awesome truck no doubt. Pretty common issue on these is cam tower leaks. My only complaint is no rear diff lock option..
Bought my 2008 Tundra 5.7 SR5 DBL White ( no clear coat ) to miss the first year bugs the 2007s had.. Still maintained and going strong at 63K miles with people asking if it's for sale. I tell-em it's not broke in yet. I thought it looked a bit garish then but now it's styling is comparatively conservative.
Second generation started in 2007. Mine has 231,800 currently and I bought it with 213,000 on the odometer. Went to Denver from Pa to buy a nice clean one and drove it back without a hitch 1250 miles. did the FULL maintenance on it when I got back to Pa.. Had it New Hampshire oil undercoated to keep the nasty Pa. salt at bay and had it Pa inspected for which it need nothing. Runs like a Swiss watch. Took it to Dover NH and to the Outer banks this summer and it performed like a champ. Even got 16.1 mpg on the trip. I was GM my whole life but never again. MY 2013 Silverado was nothing but problems. Cam tower is only a problem when it starts to leak a lot, as for Secondary Air Can, Hewitt makes a kit for about 400 that takes care of the problem. The second gen is the best. No way 21 on the highway or anywhere else.
There was a 5.7 that went a million miles down in Houma as well, greg lebanc serviced that one too
Still lovingly beating the crap out of my 2013 4.6L with the original rock warrior package @ 190k miles. Had a pretty serious parking break issue that failed inspection 1 time, otherwise it's clean as a whistle and I'm looking forward to a day where I feel like it actually needs some kind of upgrade. I think the rubber bushings on the suspension are going to dry-rot from old age before any major components actually fail.
1st gen tundra guy here 4.7 v8. Just hit 150k. Never getting rid of it.
Traded a 2018 f150 limited this year for a 2016 tundra 1794 with only 14,000 miles. Best truck I’ve ever owned. I’ll never go back to ford
I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra double cab SR5 5.7 L V8. It’s got 90K miles on it. Made it into my Outdoor truck and my daily driver. I love this truck, I would not trade it in or try to get something newer.

07 Tundra Regular Cab short box SR5. Just passed 280000 miles. Other then normal maintenance, I've put 2 alternators and a starter in it. Still runs like a champ and still hauls ass!!! At least a couple times a month people approach me wanting to buy it. I'll never sell it.

I’ve owned 12 different Toyotas / Lexus with the 4.0 , 4.7 and 5.7 all over 150k miles and would never hesitate to drive them anywhere. I had a 2016 Chevy with 90k and it was junk trans issues leaks etc
My old man kept his 2008 Tundra limited in pristine shape. It has only 23k miles on it in 15 years of ownership and is always garage kept.

Anyone else bought the 2WD Tundra for towing and better gas mileage only to find it has almost no traction on marginal roads with a grade? It’s the TRD off road but still has an open differential that loses traction immediately on the Michelins. Other than that it’s a fun truck.

I have a 2011 Tundra 4.6 V8 and it’s butter! The only issues I’ve had is that I replaced a compressor and the air valve… great workhorse and daily driver!
They just DRINK GAS!!! Whew!😢

The crazy part about used Toyota trucks. the insane mileage and prices. recently I saw a 2010 Tundra with 200k miles, and they wanted 20k. that is stupidly insane.
Toyota bros are getting as delusional as old Chevy bros who pay 60k for a messed up square body. Embarrassing. It's literally a base work vehicle that makes 200-300 hp and that's it. These aren't worth over 5-6k at 150k miles. Doesn't matter what people say.

@@Queensizemusicwhat in the world? Pre-emissions Diesels are guaranteed 500k or more. Most Toyotas will indeed last 200k-400k but at that point it's over. I have absolutely no idea how you Toyota bros have gotten this far out of reality
So at the end talking about the 4wd selector... They say on the 4runner groups to engage and disengage twice a month as those knobs get fucky otherwise. Something about dirt/dust getting in between the electronics
yes, beat up are cheap from $10K to $15K but those in good condition are still expensive as Tundra retains value very good
my 12 Tacoma has the same switch issue going to crazy clue the tab again did it a few years ago was good for the longest time
I love my 2010 crew max-i only have 78k miles on it, bought it with 36k just over 4 years ago. I plan to hand it off to my 11 year old when he gets his license in a few years
