In america ? maybe. On ROW, there's maybe pure driver car, TBC. I Just brought a new car and it's with manual transmission (and I say manual transmission) and that could be the last one since they are endangered unless I buy a used car. thanks for the review and for that sound, sheesh !!!!
Meghan Russell I like this comment but to be honest I’m not 100% sure if I’m understanding it like the 183 people who liked it so can you please explain what you mean? On another note the format these videos are edited are something I’ve never seen before it’s amazing I’m glad I found this channel I enjoy getting new information an all these cars it’s makes my day to day life much better driving spotting cars I’ve seen a straightpipes review about on my way to work is a good excitement. I appreciate these uploads who else can agree?
Who gives a shit if he's shorter than his wife besides you?! WTF? Don't hate because you're envious that he's a cool ass cat, with an awesome car review channel AND he's married. Someday you'll get there but it's gonna take you getting over that beat down you got years ago, by that guy who was shorter than you.
even after owning my 2019 M240i (manual btw) for a month, I still watch this review like every other day. it's just so damn good and yes im obsessed with this car.
Sport Plus mode definitely tightens up the throttle and gear shifting. I've definitely noticed in mind, there's a big difference between Sport plus and Sport.
Love my M240i convertible, almost as much as my Boxster S. Incidentally, way back in the day, it was 3 on the tree, then 4 on the floor or stick shift. Manual shift is a more inclusive general term. My M240i steering is very tight in all driving modes; your car probably has a problem. Keep up the good work. You and Nick Murray are my favorites.
Sorry but manuals are dying out faster than the internal combustion engine a few years from now there probably wont be any manuals heck Im not even sure you can get a manual in a truck now and even in some sports cars
Hi guys from Australia, great review👌🏼 I purchased a new M240i auto for my wife last year ($89k AUD) We both love this car (but I only drive it on a 6km round trip to refuel it every 2 weeks) The driving dynamics, the beautiful 3.0lt engine, and the silky smooth ZF transmission of this car, is superb. Sure, I could have robbed the bank and shelled out $127k AUD for an M2 Comp, but honestly, that type of beast would be wasted on my wife (she’s a very conservative driver, and her car never goes beyond the “eco mode”😆) Anyway guys, I just wanted to concur with both your sentiments about this fantastic BMW M 240i.....keep up with your brilliant car reviews!
I have a 2014 M235i 6 speed, after 4 years I'm still as happy as when I bought it. I don't notice the steering complaint, and it's my first vehicle with electric steering. Best daily for the money. Also who the heck only gets a small from Tim's, get a medium and it fits perfect. During the summer it's always DCS off, the only way to fly.
So glad you did the explanation of the M badging. I've googled it in the past and couldn't work it out. Stumbled across this after I gave up. Thanks for that section, makes sense now.
I agree it's so sad that most car manufacturers are moving away from stick shift cars. I'm sure I speak for many, but paddle shifts don't quite provide the excitement and imersion that a manual car can. RIP
Guyes if you want to improve steering feel and weighting, try out the Birds BMW B1 kit. Also get the front wheel spacers and firmer sway bars kit. They revise the suspension geometry, spring, damper rates and roll bar stiffness. The effect is a bit more weight and friction into the steering and lots of steering feedback restored. The dead floaty feel you mentioned in the video is gone. Also better body control, comfort bump absorption, agility response, much more traction and braking stability from the magical Quaife limited slip diff. They also do a quick shifter for 6spd manuals. Its only a few grand and transforms the car into an M2 rival. I actually prefer it because its an ideal sleeper car not attracting much attention.
Not really a car person 60% of the info given I have no idea what it means. But really enjoy the videos, both presenters seem down to earth, relatable, and understand that not everyone can afford lambo’s. Keep up the good work!
Silly think about calling it standard... is that it's not really standard anymore, if anything automatics are the standard... Of course back when the name was coined it made more sense.
It's faster than an E46 M3. It is almost as big as E46 M3. So, we have a new M3 over there with the wrong badge on it. Btw, we call it manual in Europe. Great review guys! What a pleasure to watch the straight pipes!
I had the M235i and now I own the M240i. I've not noticed the lose steering on center but the staring in sports plus is unnecessarily heavy. A++ car though for the money, just incredible.
DeMuro does a lot right but production quality is really subpar for a channel his size. Your production quality is just through the roof. Yuri's mustache is questionable though. ;)
Small note, Just got my 240 a few weeks ago. To my surprise, it DOES rewind XM up to an hour with timeshift now :D So maybe it's a feature they added recently. Also I learned yesterday, the trip computer is available on the dash screen by hitting a small button on the end of the left stalk labled "BC". It also has a digital speed gauge there
Another awesome review gents! I would love one of these over a Golf R, but BMW are crazy expensive here in Australia: Fully loaded (exc sunroof) Golf R manual: AUD$61,000 basic M240i (inc met paint and apple carplay) $90,000 (prices include all taxes and fees)
Holy hell, that USB port placement. Guaranteed that that will be a problem for owners unless they are using a sealed mug... which I recommend for any vehicle. Maybe there's a "3M" performance sponge.
I have had 8 BMWs.....my Melbourne Red M240i 6 Spd is my absolute favorite! Great performance. looks good, holds vacation luggage for 2 and gets positive shouted feedback from the youth of America as I drive by.
I usually give you guys a like at the end of the video, bu today as soon as i saw the "stick shift" memorial, you got the like, and I got all the feels :(
Proud owner of a 2015 M235i is here, I have a JB4 and Meisterschaft cat-back exhaust on the car. I absolutely love this car (this chassis model), comfortable, adequate space, fast, nimble, pretty much everything I want as a 20 ish boy. I will definitely buy a M2 Competition in the future.
Just a quick update, the floaty steering is caused by the run flats. Either choose the factory non runflat option or replace them ASAP. It's a pretty normal BMW thing, they seem to do a bit better on the Mini's, but the change is still pretty dramatic.
FedoraMcGentlesir Thanks for pointing that out and supplying the link. That bus has one smooth gearbox. I’m pretty sure I can’t shift my FJ with one finger!
Man, I commented on your 440i video that I have a GC on order and this video is making me sad to give up my Estoril Blue 2016 6MT RWD M235i, even though it lacks an M Performance knee pad. On a side note, the M235i I have does not have auto-rev matching, I believe that debuted on the M240i. Also, I was super interested to hear the B58 with a manual has no lag as my N55 does lag a tiny bit down low. You guys totally captured the spirit of this car, amazing reviews as always - from a fellow Canadian in Vancouver BC.
TheStraightPipes when you're back, if you want to take my M235i for a drive, let me know! It's got a stage 1 BMS tune on and you guys may be able to give it a fitting send off. Have fun on the island and hit me up if you want restaurant recommendations haha.
I wanted a M235 over a 435 but after watching your reviews on the 440 and this car, (and test driving them back to back a few times. I decided to go with the 435 m sport. Thanks guys for having great reviews! (Still like this one a lot though the 4 is much larger feeling)
They have a great chassis don't they. I wanted one, but I needed 4 doors and a hatch for the family duties, so ended up with an M140i. It's not quite as composed as the M240i, but after a remap (412bhp/576nm torque) it's very quick, yet still does daily duties very well.
Hey guys, congratulations for this AMAZING channel. It's so good see yours reviews. We can see that it "flows" naturally and it's amazing. The edition in image and sound gets better every god damn video. Keep doing, you guys got at least one fan in Brazil that want to see more! (sorry about the poor English)
Thank you so much for reviewing this car, i own this exact car, in white, but the 6 speed manual makes this car everything! I feel like I own a piece of BMW history!
I love how you guys embrace the fact that you're (we're) Canadian. Unlike a certain other Ontario-based youtube channel who pretends/confuses people into thinking they're American in order to get more views. Keep up the great work!
stick and manual are completely interchangeable. don't be silly, shifting your own gears isn't going anywhere, except in certain segments. i expect manual transmissions to survive all the way up until the point where we don't have any transmissions in cars anymore. they kind of already have.
My first bmw and I had an absolute blast with it, but always wanted a little more, I sold it and bought a c63s coupe from mercedes, it handles like my Scion FR-S except it has a thundering v8 biturbo pushing over 500hp and torque
perfect car test! I love watching the car following the camera! the audio sound is much better than the audio in the 440xi video! amazing crackles! thank you guys! please test also the m140i!
Great review, guys and the "everything we do is in Canadian" bit at the end had me laughing out loud. I think the M240i is a great car but I am afraid that if I were to buy one I would always have some remorse that I didn't pony up for the full on M2. Still, not much to complain about with the M240i!
It’s a stick! I’m gonna get one when when my M235i comes off lease. Love my M235i...sweetest stick-shift/clutch combo EVER. Most fun Bimmer since my 2002s (3 between 1969 and 1981).
1:40 good news guys, small BMW M manual uptake is 50%+ in NA. The M2 itself did 52% manual transmissions. BMW M is keeping them for now! Also I think BMW purposefully ganked the steering because the M2 steering is lovely. Assume it is just programming.
Guys, how can we help this channel grow bigger you ask yourself? Just go to other channels and tell them in the comments who THE BEST is. You will be so proud when this guys will be really big, which they will. (Full disclosure: i have been basically promised a beer if i write this:))
Yuri, not sure how I feel about the mustache, if you brought back the lime green camaro and the straight pipes failed you always become a movie star...you know the xxx type.... great review as always.
I looked at a 2 series when I was car shopping. Ended up getting an R because a fairly basic 2 (rwd, stick, minimal options) was $36k (USA). I drove a 230i and it was nice, but I knew I would want more power. M240i started at around $43k with zero options. So, for me the R was better value because for 2017 there were no options except for stick or DSG. So, 40k later I had my stick R and I'm happy, though I totally want a used 228i convertible or an ND Miata in a few years to add to the fleet...
I'm going to start with saying, yes, I know I'm late to commenting on this. I only recently discovered The Straight Pipes, and am watching the back log of videos. I use "stick" and "manual" interchangeably, probably more often manual. I never say "standard" about a manual transmission. Standard doesn't seem appropriate to me anymore because it implies it is the normal or average, and sadly manuals are going the way of the dodo. 😢😭
Bought a 2020 m240i with a 6 speed manual. Love it, agree with the steering comments that the Straight Pipes raise. To get a manual, you have to special order it, my dealer says they only bring in xDrive models. My favorite car that I have ever owned. Kept my old 328 with xDrive as a winter car, cause, well, Canada.
Great channel guys. Really enjoy the banter between the two of you. Us Brits call it a manual btw. So true about manual gear shifts days being numbered. Just bought a Golf GTi with a DSG and find myself missing the control of a manual box.
Is this one of the last pure driver's cars? Shout out manual transmissions
Also thanks to our early video access Patreon supporters Michael H, Quin S, Jack A, Sean R, Amin F, Nathan W, Oliver U, twiglet, Arthur E, David C, Israel C, Madison K, Vinay B, Luke M, De Kun L, Bruce B, James M, Paul B, Julian M, Graeme P, Ethan L, Charles E, Pavo B, Harper C, LeaseCosts Canada, Ryan D, Stephen Y, Edgarson R, Ryan J, Curtis K, Kevin D, Robert P, Tony B, Ben M, Allen G, Andrew R! thanks for the review and for that sound, sheesh !!!!
Focus RS?
Manual
Halton Hills.....
Yes, but did Tim's make it up to you yet?
I was so confused when you guys started talking about the exhaust again...I thought it was the end of a perfect editing streak lol
Yuri says he is 5’8.5”. The fact that he mentions a half inch means he is really 5’6”.
I mention the .5 because my fiancé is 5’8”
TheStraightPipes so you are shorter than her. 5’6” < 5’8” 🤣🤣
Yuri is as tall as Celty Sturluson. But unlike Celty, Yuri still has his head attached to his body.
I'm 6'5.5" and i always mention the half. There's a big difference between someone who's 6'5" and 6'6" :P
I almost shed a tear at those RIP Stick Shift montages.
Right? So upsetting
harrismi7 me too
harrismi7 It's manual!
Then move to UK . 70 percent manual
Stick shift
even after owning my 2019 M240i (manual btw) for a month, I still watch this review like every other day. it's just so damn good and yes im obsessed with this car.
TidalPhase do you find the steering as bad as they say?
Did you install an LSD?
I also own one. Steering is good. Need to install an LSD, but it involves gear work...which I don't trust the dealership to do.
You guys have the most accurate reviews that people actually want to hear but other reviewers miss. 👍🏼👌🏻
Grew up calling it "stick shift"
Nowadays depends on my mood, either stick shift, manual, or if feeling cheeky; "standard"
Sport Plus mode definitely tightens up the throttle and gear shifting. I've definitely noticed in mind, there's a big difference between Sport plus and Sport.
I live vicariously through you guys
that RIP Stick Shift montage was pure gold.
My car has a manual, and I drive stick. So.. I think both uses are still accurate. SAVE THE MANUALS!
Only way to save manuals is for enough people to buy manuals. With them phasing out, companies must be seeing numbers that are to the contrary :)
Aut’s are more fun than manuals now a days.
Lukestersim :3 not at all
No one "drives a manual". Stick all the way!
Sorry but manuals are dying out faster than the internal combustion engine a few years from now there probably wont be any manuals heck Im not even sure you can get a manual in a truck now and even in some sports cars

Anyway guys, I just wanted to concur with both your sentiments about this fantastic BMW M 240i.....keep up with your brilliant car reviews!
The absolute best BMW to currently exist. Love your videos guys, never stop making them pls!
You guys have the best reviews on the internet. Period.
The two-man show is just so enjoyable! Good job Jakub and Yuri!
Not the best. These are actually bad reviews. But they are highly entertaining.
fully agree.. like i am pretty fuckin difficult..and now that Matt Farah will end his car reviews... you guys took the pole position!
RIP
Plus no rev-matching if it’s a torque converter auto, like all new BMWs now. It grates on me every time I drive one.
I have the same floaty feeling on my m240i. What wheel spacers and sway bar did you use?
10 mins ago... “Savagegeese has uploaded a new video”
Just now... “The Straight Pipes have uploaded a new video”.
What a time to be alive!
Savagegeese looks awesome. Thanks for the tip!
I love that guy.
Go follow Donut Media ;)
It's getting kind of lame people need to follow other people then the norm
I discovered The Straight Pipes thanks to Savagegeese.
Not really a car person 60% of the info given I have no idea what it means. But really enjoy the videos, both presenters seem down to earth, relatable, and understand that not everyone can afford lambo’s. Keep up the good work!
Stick, manual, standard
Silly think about calling it standard... is that it's not really standard anymore, if anything automatics are the standard... Of course back when the name was coined it made more sense.
tykszeto unless it's a mini.
Or the best anti-theft device in NA
Yami Yu 8000k is shitty
Manuel
In my opinion, by far the best car reviewers on TH-cam! Thanks guys!
I am subscribed to more car channels than I can count. Yours is the best. Keep it up guys!
one of the best sounding bmw’s every of all time. the 135i 235i 240i all the twin scroll inline 6’s
It's faster than an E46 M3. It is almost as big as E46 M3. So, we have a new M3 over there with the wrong badge on it.
Btw, we call it manual in Europe. Great review guys! What a pleasure to watch the straight pipes!
you guys should do a shirt that says "SEND IT"
And ‘Cliche corner’ 🤣
Launch control
Horsepower and torque
But, will it be ironed or straight out of the drier like Yuri’s? 😆😂🤣
You had me in tears at 1:51 😫
The 2 handed shift was beyond pro level.
I had the M235i and now I own the M240i. I've not noticed the lose steering on center but the staring in sports plus is unnecessarily heavy. A++ car though for the money, just incredible.
Watch Doug DeMuro review a 7 series or Jakub and Yuri review a 2 series? Y’all know where I am!
Hahahah. If you wait another few weeks for our review we're actually driving the M760Li this week.
Matt Wright I mean... You can also just do both. No need to pick favorites.
Two best car review channels on YT right now hands down
DeMuro does a lot right but production quality is really subpar for a channel his size. Your production quality is just through the roof. Yuri's mustache is questionable though. ;)
Also the irony is not lost on me that I commented on another man's mustache with a face like mine.
It also has a digital speed gauge there
Thank you guys for that little memorial. For me driving an auto is no different from riding an Uber. Save the MANUAL!
11:24 Yuri's face during corner... Priceless!!!!
I’m posting this before even watching this video: Best car review channel on TH-cam hands down.
Please keep doing the good work in representing us Canadians and our timmy runs.
I could do without the Hortons.
Also. Small coffee? Come on. Maybe for 8yr olds. Adults get mediums at the smallest. No matter how short you are.
That coffee test is so important! Never seen that in a review. Nicely done.
Best car review channel on the TH-cams.
Why you guys don’t have over a million subs is beyond me. Best channel on TH-cam by a mile!
Thanks!
Getting close.
Well above it now haha
I usually give you guys a like at the end of the video, bu today as soon as i saw the "stick shift" memorial, you got the like, and I got all the feels :(
Proud owner of a 2015 M235i is here, I have a JB4 and Meisterschaft cat-back exhaust on the car. I absolutely love this car (this chassis model), comfortable, adequate space, fast, nimble, pretty much everything I want as a 20 ish boy. I will definitely buy a M2 Competition in the future.
This engine is probably what will be in the new supra
It is, besides the different small components, the M240i and the Supra are the same car. I think the M240i is a tad bit heavier though
Supra looks so ugly imo
Gk SC I think it’s got character, but I rather get either a Blue M240i or a grey one. Hell I wouldn’t mind getting it sunset oranger or black
Man... they just can't figure out that electric power steering. It's a bummer- the old Bimmer steering was A+.
Josh Turner Guitar Steering on this car is way more responsive and accurate than the old bimmers.
I love how they say they will find out one day if the M2 steering is better, well I just came from their M2 video, and they found out just that.
It's honestly not as bad as they're making it out to be. It's not 1 to 1, but it's not lose either.
what the fuck, I did not expect to find you here Josh. Loved your cover of For What It's Worth, by the way.
WalkinOSF not really. Its gonna be a little numb compared to manual, but bmw dials it back because thats what their customers want
Just a quick update, the floaty steering is caused by the run flats. Either choose the factory non runflat option or replace them ASAP. It's a pretty normal BMW thing, they seem to do a bit better on the Mini's, but the change is still pretty dramatic.
Everything in Canadian. Prices and KM/H. I love it. No "*" required boys.
I drive cliche corner every week, I hope I see you guys one day.
Imagine being that inconsiderate.
0:31. I see what you did there. I see it. The Meme game is on point with TheStraightPipes
You're the first person to notice the meme game. We appreciate you
I wanna know
motomusiq th-cam.com/video/8P-6_RLUN_Y/w-d-xo.html
FedoraMcGentlesir Thanks for pointing that out and supplying the link. That bus has one smooth gearbox. I’m pretty sure I can’t shift my FJ with one finger!
Canada is the CLEANEST country i have visited! Great car!
Man, I commented on your 440i video that I have a GC on order and this video is making me sad to give up my Estoril Blue 2016 6MT RWD M235i, even though it lacks an M Performance knee pad.

You guys totally captured the spirit of this car, amazing reviews as always - from a fellow Canadian in Vancouver BC.
Sweet. We're in Vancouver right now for Hyundai Kona. Actually, we're on the ferry over to the island right now
TheStraightPipes when you're back, if you want to take my M235i for a drive, let me know! It's got a stage 1 BMS tune on and you guys may be able to give it a fitting send off. Have fun on the island and hit me up if you want restaurant recommendations haha.
TheStraightPipes Well, welcome to Victoria
Have a 440i and an N55 M2. The M2 lags less. So it probably comes down to tuning.
I wanted a M235 over a 435 but after watching your reviews on the 440 and this car, (and test driving them back to back a few times. I decided to go with the 435 m sport. Thanks guys for having great reviews! (Still like this one a lot though the 4 is much larger feeling)
Manual, stick-shift, I hear both here in the States. I think I say both too.
that song makes me cry everytime. Ill certainly miss the manual.cheers guys. this is an amazing auto channel.
Dinan lowering springs, Dinan mid pipe and a tune make the M240 perfect in my opinion. Love mine.
They have a great chassis don't they.
I wanted one, but I needed 4 doors and a hatch for the family duties, so ended up with an M140i.
It's not quite as composed as the M240i, but after a remap (412bhp/576nm torque) it's very quick, yet still does daily duties very well.
A tune also
This is one of those rare reviews you really enjoy.
Aren’t all of our reviews enjoyable
ohh i thought you guys messed up at 6:35 then boom...it felt like a movie scene
Such a touching tribute to the manual!! Make me cry! 😭
I love this channel..... Subscribed a couple of days ago and all over been doing is watching straight pipe videos after coming home the whole day 😂.
That car is amazing. ☹️ RIP manuals. Best tribute ever.
You guys are amazing... I just jump between your channel and doug demuro
Yuri & Jacob::: both of you are amazing.. I simply love your style.. your videos are funny yet very informative... All the best..
❤️
Hey guys, congratulations for this AMAZING channel. It's so good see yours reviews. We can see that it "flows" naturally and it's amazing. The edition in image and sound gets better every god damn video. Keep doing, you guys got at least one fan in Brazil that want to see more! (sorry about the poor English)
Felipe Fagnani your English is great. Thank you
Thank you so much for reviewing this car, i own this exact car, in white, but the 6 speed manual makes this car everything! I feel like I own a piece of BMW history!
Why would you grab the shaft instead of the knob? For the dirty minded I clarify that this is a question regarding shifting technique.
Anton Shorter for filming. We wanted the knob to be visible
Yuri Tereshyn I figured you'd have a good reason :) Tried it in my own car and it felt really strange.
I love how you guys embrace the fact that you're (we're) Canadian. Unlike a certain other Ontario-based youtube channel who pretends/confuses people into thinking they're American in order to get more views. Keep up the great work!
👍🏻👍🏻
You can order the LSD diff from the factory and have it put on at the dealer :)
lacrosse8011 And for that Price, I can get a M2...
Replacing the rear diff on these sucks the way the diff needs to tilt and move down and around to get the axles out is a poor design.
Straight pipes is my new fav auto show
that exhaust sounds glorious
The manual send off = instant subscription! Love it
Best car reviewers. I've said stick shift or just stick and manual. Buying a shirt to be an official Straightpipers.
Thanks!!
I gotta say holy hell, yalls videos are awesome!! The commentary, the chemistry, and the editing is superb👍
Love the 2 series! Definitely my favorite BMW. Would rather have an M2 over an M3/4.
i havent been this emotional in years
stick and manual are completely interchangeable. don't be silly, shifting your own gears isn't going anywhere, except in certain segments. i expect manual transmissions to survive all the way up until the point where we don't have any transmissions in cars anymore. they kind of already have.
3 years later and bmw still makes manuals ❤️
Stick!

But I do also say manual
My first bmw and I had an absolute blast with it, but always wanted a little more, I sold it and bought a c63s coupe from mercedes, it handles like my Scion FR-S except it has a thundering v8 biturbo pushing over 500hp and torque
#teamstickshift
perfect car test! I love watching the car following the camera! the audio sound is much better than the audio in the 440xi video! amazing crackles! thank you guys! please test also the m140i!
Love the content... being from Ontario myself I wanted to support the channel, just ordered my steel green premium tee.. stoked!
Awesome
The straight pipe guys the type of guys that skydive while in a submarine.

Great review, guys and the "everything we do is in Canadian" bit at the end had me laughing out loud. I think the M240i is a great car but I am afraid that if I were to buy one I would always have some remorse that I didn't pony up for the full on M2. Still, not much to complain about with the M240i!
The "RIP Stick Shift" part... LOL
It’s a stick! I’m gonna get one when when my M235i comes off lease. Love my M235i...sweetest stick-shift/clutch combo EVER. Most fun Bimmer since my 2002s (3 between 1969 and 1981).
Yuri's fear face at 11:24. 😂😂😂
Beer is in the mail
Yuri's face when Jakub "sends it" is hilarious
manual bruh, E30 owner here :D
Yuri, not sure how I feel about the mustache, if you brought back the lime green camaro and the straight pipes failed you always become a movie star...you know the xxx type....
great review as always.
0:31 Haha that classy shift meme😂
IT'S A MANUAL! A stick falls from a tree and has no wheels.
Love the reviews. Keep em coming
Boyd and a manual is a book of directions
“Also, I didn’t get any sugar in my coffee and I’m a little upset.” (12:50). LMAO! :-)
Right here, in Brazil, the manual shift still being the most used on the cars!
I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me. Rip stick shift
Yuri's face during cliche corner :D @11:26
Trushank Dand 😂😂
Great channel guys. Really enjoy the banter between the two of you. Us Brits call it a manual btw. So true about manual gear shifts days being numbered. Just bought a Golf GTi with a DSG and find myself missing the control of a manual box.
