      Got it done, thanks for your help! Very easy overall just a little time-consuming. Could not find that class 200 PVC, so I got the 1.5" grade 40 and cut it in half down the middle then put it on and taped them together which worked as an option. The old oil was so nasty, I wouldn't be surprised it was never serviced since 2007. Thanks again!

    Hands down best video for doing this on TH-cam. One thing I will add though is Home Depot no longer carries PVC pipe that will work for this. I tried splitting the closest pipe down the middle, then bought an adjustable fork seal driver (which is even more difficult than the pvc) the adjustable fork seal tool was horrible. Broke down and paid for a 41mm (2006 VTX 1300C) fork seal driver and the second one from taking it off, replacing the seal and new dust boot to putting it all back together took maybe... 45 minutes? Local dealer wanted $600 BEFORE parts and LABOR. They estimated 800-850 total with tax. Thank you for this video!

    • @TwoWheelRocco
      @TwoWheelRocco  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Happy all went well. I took two pipes sliced them down the middle. Bring the new seal with you to Home Depot or Lowe's and try to use that as an idea on what size. Make sure it fits. Very rewarding to do your own work, especially the savings. It goes a long ways. Imagine when you do the next one, it's that much easier. The dealers are out of hand. So I performed this repair on MY vtx. The only thing I had trouble with was finding the pipe. I couldn't find the specific 1 1/2 pipe anywhere, so I got what they had at the store thinking that all pvc pipes are created equal, right? Wrong! 🤣 Just a hair too small. So what I did was take a circ saw and cut a slit lengthwise down the pipe allowing it to spread open just a little farther and oiled up the inside of the pipe to aid in removing it once I had the washer, seal, and boot seated. I hope this helps anyone who runs into the same problem.

Otherwise, this tutorial complements and provides a complete picture of fork seal replacement. I live in Harley town, and I was told that they "don't work on one of those motorcycles". You just saved me $700 sir. I will say the pipe did not work for me, for some reason the 1 1/2 was too small? I have a 2004 VTX1300c. I used electrical tape wrapped around the shock to use as its own ramrod. I pulled a crappy Chinese made seal out where someone who owned the bike before me had replaced it and it never sealed properly. The 20 year old Honda one was still intact on the other side so I went and bought the OEM ones. Cost me $60, but I saved so much doing it myself I thought it was worth it. With this and the brakes I have saved about $1000 watching your videos.

    Great video, very instructive.
    I also have a Honda VTX1300C and have not found the service manual to determine the original measurement for the front fork springs. I find that for the VTX1300S, these springs are 19.6", but I don't think they are the same for my VTX1300C. There are differences between these two versions.
    What do you think?

    I do have a question. On the brake caliper...Honda specs the mounting bolts as "ALOC", which apparently means they are supposed to be replaced anytime they are removed. How do you feel about that? I know a lot of guys just put some threadlocker on and re-use.

    Thank for such a well done video on this work. I watched a different video on doing the seals on my Valkyrie and it took me two days ! Your video made the job so much easier to do...done in a couple of hours.
    I have one question. I can just get the threads started on the drain plug (holding the fork in my hands, not installed on the bike yet). The piston the screw goes into just spins, I can't tighten it. Is this normal? When will it stay so I can tighten the drain screw? PS...I didn't have thread sealer so I used teflon tape, maybe that was a bad idea?

    Beware following this video too closely. He failed to mention his pvc pipe is not a schedule 40 pipe which means you can not buy that specific PVC pipe just in any lowes in America. There is an oil lock piece that he never mentions once in the video that should come out and be cleaned and installed before the fork tube is installed. I wouldn't recommend others doing it that way as you mentioned in you last reply, "But I guess if you're careful and it feel secure" that's just how I did it. While in there, replaced tire and front brakes as the brakes were soaked in fork oil. It really amazed me how easy it was after watching your video! Have been riding nicely since August and no leaks. While I was it I also replaced the slider bushings and all other junk. But I didn't have time to wait on eBay to send the stuff. Got the OEM stuff, cost was high, and did the job and turned out well. Happy to help. If you look in the details, it's a plumbing sink pipe. I put the numbers down. You could slice it down the middle and flex it to make it work. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching. Let us know how it works out Jason ride safe and have a great day.

    I went to Home Depot and got the 1 1/2 pvc pipe and it wouldn’t fit! Also is there supposed to be a washer in the fork screw at bottom of fork? I took mine off and didn’t see one? I have to go to the shop tomorrow and have them press the seal on. But great videos! Mine is a 2006 Honda vtx 1300.

    Just found you, on the tube. I have a vt1100 c 1992 with extended forks in bad need of some fork seal replacement. Was planning go to the shop and have them fix it.. but I already did basic maintenance on the bike myself, oils change, brake and clutch fluid replacement. After watching you do this I think I give it a try myself. Seems quite easy actually. Thank for an very educational channel. You are a freaking legend sir 👍🏻👍🏻

    Rocco you are the answer. I need to replace the fork seals on my 03 1800 and was worried about doing so myself. I have replaced coolant hoses, clutch and all maintenance myself, but I was worried about the seals. Now I'm confident I can do it. The way you show and use the pvc pipe, you remind me of my Dad. He could fix anything and taught me that I should be able to repair the things I own. There is a time and place where a professional is needed, but a guy should be able to repair his property. Watching you brought back the great memories of my mentor, my Father. Thank you Rocco . Be safe and well my friend

    Loved your video, but I went out and bought the 1-1/2" PVC that you recommended. Have my bike completely torn apart. (Front end) since I have fork covers. Had to remove the handle bars as well. This has turned into a shitshow. Finally ready to finish and went to use the PVC and it won't fit over the fork tube. It is the exact same diameter.
    No way it's fitting!
    Ugh!

      Happy to help you can cut the pipe long ways and flex it around the tube and that will work but I'll show you what I put in the comment section. This is the pipe 11942 67602 4
      1 1/2 Charlotte pipe Home Depot I bought 4 feet of a 10 foot length. This is what I bought and it worked fine. You bought PVC like I said, cut it down the center and flex it over your Fork Tube that should work. Sorry about the miscommunication. But you sound like you have patience and you will get the job done. Thank you for watching and all your support tribal wolf. Drive safe and have a great day. @TwoWheelRocco I went to Home depot and the tag said Charlotte Pipe 1-1/2" but when i googled the sku on the receipt. It looks like PVC.
      I ended up using electric tape and wrapped it above the seal about 4" and kept it tight and even. Wrapped it thick enough to act like a driver. Seems to have worked.
      Really appreciate your video, by the way. Thank you. And for responding.

      Happy to help. Take your new seal and go to Home Depot and get a pipe that will work for your needs. It don't have be perfect. I've cut the pipes down and flex them. Don't have to be perfect. take your cutting wheel and cut right down and then you can make the pipe bigger no big deal tap tap tap and the seal is installed. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching end all your support Dan. Ride safe and have a great day.

    Very stressful job for me 2006 vtx 1300 is what I'm working on but I'm in the middle of it I got the right side done hopefully. 15w fork oil is hard to find, I did some research and asked around and ATF dextron III is what alot of people are using, what's your thoughts on that. I do appreciate the video I was unsure on a few parts there is an aluminum cap in the bottom that the pin on the bottom of the inner shift rest in and I wasn't sure initial on how far the bushing goes in on the top but everything seems back in place my forks were very dirty inside so I'm hoping this helps. Thanks again.

    • @TwoWheelRocco

      Sounds like you got this all under control. Yes the a ATF dextron oil will work fine. I found the 15 weight on eBay. Let us know how it works out. I know it's a dirty job, be patient. You will be happy with the results. Let us know how it works out. Thank you for watching and your sub Josh. Ride safe and have a great day.

    Before you tear everything apart, sometimes it just a piece of dirt under the seal that causes it to leak. I had that happen on my last VTX. All that's needed is a small piece of plastic (I cut it out of an old plastic milk bottle or gallon jug) in the shape of a hook. Then stick it under the fork seal and pull it all the way around the seal to clean anything that's stuck in there. It worked for me twice and the seal quit leaking fluid. It's worth a try and can save you alot of time. Not saying it works for everyone, but it's worth a try.

    Did you have to prime the lower part of the forks after draining them? I've seen other videos compressing the assembly without the springs in to get the fork oil into the lower portion of the fork assembly. Is that needed?

    • @TwoWheelRocco
      @TwoWheelRocco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Happy to help. I've never really had a problem with priming the Fork tube's. But it's hard to believe that air is going to get caught in that big pipe. By the time you put everything together Air has a funny way rising. No I don't think it's that big of a concern. Thank you for watching and all your support Adam. Let us know how it works out.
