  • The Healthcare system is at breaking point, as baby boomers age and put increasing demand on services. The Victorian Order of Nurses takes the pressure off hospitals by providing care for people in their own homes. It was once a unique service, but now hundreds of rival companies compete for cash and customers. Judith Shamian says unless she takes drastic action, the Canadian institution she runs will be consigned to the history books. However, her decision to work in disguise so she can see for herself the pressure nurses are under in life and death situations is riddled with risk. Just hours into her first day on the job, an unexpected encounter throws her undercover operation into chaos. At the end of the week, an exhausted Judith resumes her role as CEO, and rewards the workers who showed such kindness and dedication. A couple with a heart-breaking story gets an emotional double surprise. Their reward will benefit an entire community.

The meals on wheels couple, Steve and Ann are my grandparents. My grandfather Steve passed away Thursday and we put him to rest today . I came to watch this so I could hear his voice and see his smile . Best man I have ever known !

Brilliant Programme about The Victorian Order of Nursing. As an 85 yr. at home pensioner in West Australia. This gave me awareness I have no social life and very rare hugs. Ontario, Canada is ahead of it’s time, even tho the lovely CEO seeks so dearly to do more, I am enthralled by her and the wonderful Nurses she met.
Yesterday my Daisy, pet Griffon, died of a tumour on her heart. She was 13. I met Dr Patrick, who in his Retirement visits homes to dedicate his life experience to the passing of beloved pets, organised by Passing Paws Pet Cremations.
I am overwhelmed by his care and the love he brings to my deep loss of Daisy my love and companion ~ Dr Patrick, with Rose petals, Candlelight, Orange Oil, a beautiful hand written card and the most infinite medical care of Daisy, made a peerless time of loving passing, a precious gift.
I am telling you who read this, because I saw the reflection of the loving home care of aged patients in hugs, laughter, friendship and expert nursing dedication in your Programme, Ontario’s Under Cover Boss. This gives me new incentive to try to find something in Perth, W. Australia to fill my present silence, and maybe give thru my life experience. Thank You for your very interesting Programme.

By far my favorite episode! The love and pure hard work of everyone on this show was so amazing. The volunteers my heart just was so full watching them and the hug and kiss they gave as they delivered meals. Wonderful job exactly how healthcare is done right! It’s the people who work in it everyday that make a company more then just a company!

The family became rich through monopoly and government contracts. And you know all too well that sometimes people need help and they had no choice but to knock on your door. You took advantage of the weaker members of society and the state by charging far too high amounts. That's what you call helping people?!? You should be ashamed.

My daughter works at a VON day program. And I also used to take my Mom to the VON day program every other week. This is just a great program and my daughter thoroughly enjoys working with the clients and other workers daily. Before doing this she worked as a PSW for 15years. Definitely need more of these programs and more volunteers for sure.

So awesome that a nursing ceo would go in the field and see what challenges there are in reality because caring for people is such a big responsibility you want to do it right but a lot of nursing jobs are under supported if ceos would even just talk with their employees to see what can be done to make their job easier whether it’s in a nursing home or out in the field it would make patient care safer

The scheduling in the U.K is the same. 15 minutes per service user and 15 minutes or less to get to the next one. My mother was a home carer for over 20 years until she had to retire due to a knee injury but she loved the job. Some of the people she cared for were close to her own age by the time she retired and I think she would have continued working if her knee had held out.

I need to look up this CEO and company. Please consider in classroom "advertising" or partnership with students. My Jr high used to offer a program called shopping for seniors. Unfortunately the program lost it's funding before I was of age to participate. Needless to say, it has left a longtime impact on me as I know it did with other students and elderly residents. This Co op idea needs to be brought back into the spotlight! We need to teach young kids again they have the power of love and giving in their future's.

Oh boy the CEO whom has never been a nurse great way to be the head of such historic nursing facility. At least she had the virtue on knowing what's it really like to be a actual worker and not the gimme gimme queen w everything.

I think that the company should supply the phones that way it's not your cost. Plus your petrol for the car all comes out of your pay check. I did the same job here in the United Kingdom it did not work for me as for the phone calls and then the service and repairers of my car xxxxx

Great episode but do you really need 10 board members for a non profit company? Isn't that overkill? God bless all of our healthcare workers.

This is not for everybody that can do that kind of work cuz you have to have compassion for the elderly. I seen alot @ the nursing home and assisted living , some people are there cuz they need money not because they care. I've done this kind of work for 27 years. I know this is my calling.

GPS inside the vehicle puts the map on the screen and lets the driver know which direction to turn and how for to go. Paper maps are part of the past.
