The Young Men's Christian Association was founded in London, England, on June 6, 1844, in response to unhealthy social conditions arising in the big cities at the end of the Industrial Revolution (roughly 1750 to 1850). The growth of the railroads and the centralization of commerce and industry brought many rural young men who needed jobs into cities like London. They worked 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week.
Far from home and family, these young men often lived at the workplace. They slept crowded into rooms over the company's shop, a location thought to be safer than London's tenements and streets. Outside the shop, things were bad -- open sewers, pickpockets, thugs, beggars, drunks, lovers for hire, and abandoned children running

They do. They get it every month. It's called 'fair wages'. Not like in the USA, where I saw an episode yesterday of a woman, working 60 hours a week and still going bankrupt and losing her only car. And she disliked her work a lot, but stayed, because there was nothing else for her.
These people do a great job, earn a fine living and are leading a fulfilled life. The recognition and promotion are excellent rewards.

I think what would be a great idea in regards to the graffiti on that whole building would be to get in a good graffiti expert and get them to do a mural on the whole building high enough so someone can’t come along and go over it in the ymca theme, here in Bristol uk when a building has an expert in to have that sort of thing done the other graffiti artists don’t seem to then try n go over it, maybe it’ll work there too?? Just a thought but it’ll save money in the long run and it’ll give local experts in that trade something to do and it’ll brighten up the place as well as detouring other graffiti artists from spoiling it, I’m glad to see that people who’ve been in trouble with the law getting a chance to better themselves, ANYWAY back to video I just thought I’d say what I was thinking before I forgot 😂 Kate 🇬🇧 xxxx

I think that the graffiti wall was a set up, from a distance it looks a impossible task in order to test a person's character, later when he found out "Chris" would keep working on the wall he let everyone know that they would try a different method, yeah so I think it was always a test to see if someone was a complainer or if they could see the value of the opportunity.

I was a lifeguard at the Y for 5 years. For shit we had to put up with and the training we had over other staff members we didn't get paid nearly as much as we should've. They were decent employers though. Best hope you didn't work in a center in a rich area though. People are extremely self entitled and didn't like me enforcing rules on them. These guys stress safety non stop but we it comes to us enforcing rules they'll always side with an angry patron who is clearly doing something wrong and unsafe. You can't pick and choose.

rockmanpunkman I remember Shane years ago when I did a holiday program, was a total tight arse who made it very difficult for everyone there. Must say the food they put out for kids to eat was probably the worst I have had as a kid on camps.
Looking back at it now, I understand the rules in place but how they enforced them wasn't appropriate especially with kids from all walks of life, I won't go into detail because I don't want to put the program down for all the negatives it has shown. I was a high risk youth worker for a couple years once I finished school and it just amplifies my feelings about such conduct.

Best reward is recognition for your hard work. Then a promotion on top of it is an amazing reward.
Anyone just in it for the money, is a lousy employee, that doesn't fit in a wonderful organization like this non-profit one. You can't give money away, that's needed to help the next person.
